I used to come to this restaurant years ago with family. I returned to this place to eat some of the foods I remember. I came on a weekday evening which was basically empty but nice and decorated as I remembered. I ordered 2 tacos de res, an order of chicharrón and an order of yuca frita. The tacos were very surprising as they came in flour tortillas, the meat was a bit burnt and they added some sort of salad on top. Overall the tacos are a 2/5. Stopped by for lunch on a slow Wednesday. The 12.99 lunch special was big enough for 2 meals. We both had the chicharron papusa (yummy), sausage, rice and beans, a piece of queso and a plantain. Everything was delicious and filling. The service was a bit slow but I think there was only one server during lunch (that we saw). Decor was interesting - giant giraffe named Victoria was by the entrance. It was fun. Overall, good spot for a filling, comfort food lunch. read more

I found Rincon Salvadoreno recently while sliggghtly hungover one early Sunday morning while making my way home from the city. I'll be honest, I chose the place because of the "Rincon" in the name at first glance, as it reminded me of Puerto Rico. It wasn't till I arrived that I saw the full name and that it was a Salvadorian restaurant. Either way, the food and the service were both amazing. I was 'starving marvin' as they say and ordered me up a El Izalco (2 pupusas of choice, beans, rice and plantain) and two eggs over easy. I also ordered a chamomile tea and had about 5 glasses of water. For some super big portions, good bang for your buck, and great service, you'll want to stop by here the next time you're in town! read more

10 years ago I use to frequent this restaurant and it was great. Today I was back in the neighborhood and decided to go grab a bite. I was totally disappointed. Presentation was off, color off, bland, and the chicken was not cut up and it was still red. A tamale is made separately and after it is put together. The chicken is not raw and placed in the tamale. It's cooked and placed in the tamale. This 1 seems not to be fully cooked at all. I didn't even touch it. The masa was made with too much water, so the texture was not solid. I'm a foodie. Stopped by here for an early dinner on a Friday afternoon and it was quite empty. The servers were watching tv, I felt like I was interrupting them as they looked at me and stared for a few minutes before returning to the tv. I was greeted and placed at a table. I ordered the bistec with beans and rice and salad. I specifically asked for it not to be refried beans and he suggested the beans and rice. He didn't ask how I'd like my steak, which should have been my prompt to leave. I told him just before he walked away that I'll like medium raw. They are no fresh juice option, the beverage menu was mediocre. They served salsa with tortilla chips before the food comes out. It was ok, the tortilla was fried and the salsa was from a can (pre-made). Once the food was placed in front of me, my eyes immediately darted to the steak and could tell it was over cooked. The rice and beans was actually refried beans mixed with rice to create a mushy mess that was almost like the consistency of mashed potatoes but was drier and tasted neither of beans or rice. The steak was overcooked, fatty and dripping in oil. Maybe they expected me to use that as gravy for the rice? All that came with a small salad. The tres leche cake was frozen (icy) in the center. It didn't taste bad but the frozen state of the cake was dissatisfying. Don't waste your money or time here. Never returning. read more

Exiting a city line bus at no stop in particular along Jamaica Ave -- in the wee morning hours of Presidents Day, food options were quite plentiful. The postulate corner location drew me nearer and once inside, I marvelled at the brightly painted jungle-esque theme. Complete with giraffes, elephants, parrots, palm trees and other large ceramic buggers, it was a dazzling display, similar to Fangorn, without the Ents. Sitting alone, sound came only from a wall mounted TV, History Channel speak-- Presidential this and that, the car, the plane, the meals. I'd prefer the special interest kickbacks, the drone strikes, the printing of digital money, all of this l, as I chewed on an Emplana de Pins with a cup of over milked coffee, I pondered further. The fruit hunks caught me off guard, ten bites in, nothing. Then WHAM the pineapple dam burst wide open. The entire baked goods in the display was in burst mode, alive with many offerings with similar look and other lurking fruit surprises. Gusanos, Cachos, Coronas --- all baked in house, the aroma spoke volumes. Omelettes, sandwiches and wraps populated the breakfast menu. I ordered a Number 10 -- El Izalcos, which ran about thirteen dollars, I found this a bit pricey for two pupusas a Su Gusto. Lots of bean paste, lots of rice and a plantain that lacked sweetness. When you have to serve jury duty and you need a place to eat lunch you are already taking a gamble if you're not picking a fast food chain. Sure a fast food chain is easy, cheap, and predictable. But that's not what we do. we like to take a gamble, try the path less traveled. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose,unfortunately in this case it was a major loss. A friend and I sat down for lunch and it took a while for them to actually come and see what we wanted. being on a one hour lunch break from jury duty you really don't want to be late. I was still optimistic and figured that for Salvadorian food, if it was delicious I could forgive the lackadaisical service. I ordered a chicken tamale, some corn tamales and a beef and chicken taco. I realized that it was a lot of food and removed corn tamales from my order. My friend ordered the beef stew with rice The first issue that arose was that she still brought me the corn tamales after I told her specifically to take it off. Perhaps it was the language barrier but she ended up taking the beef stew off and my friend waited 40 minutes before she got her food. The food itself was tasty enough that I liked it. The major problem is what I found in my food In the salad, hidden beneath it,was a chicken bone. Not just any bone. A cold rib bone that looked like it had been picked clean by teeth. It was not a part of my meal nor did I find it in my chicken taco. ************* I confronted my waitress who brought me the manager. He told me that they prep the food by cooking the chicken then prepping it on my plate...(really?) and that the reason why it was cold was because it was covered by their salad. First off don't BS someone who's a pro at it. I then proceeded to say. Well my tacos were under my salad. Why aren't they cold? No answer Secondly. Who preps food in the serving plate? I'm not an idiot. You prep in the kitchen on a prep station, a table. Something The likely scenario. This salad was on someone else's plate, untouched and then saved to be reused for someone else. Unfortunately that persons leftover bone ended up on my plate. That is absolutely disgusting. No apologies were made. He took off $4.00 for the taco like he did me a favor and that was the end of it Food was decent Service was mediocre Follow up customer service and how it was handled was Poor I will never return. read more

I stopped in for some queso and chorizo pupusas, and got a heaping bowl of authentic soupa de pollo. The price was excellent and the food was delicious. The soup was so hot and had so much vegetable and chicken. It also came with a tortilla with fresh limes, and rice. I recommend putting the rice in the soup. So good. This is the spot for good authentic el Salvadorian food. The atmosphere was also great. Loved the mural! Support small businesses. I am writing this review to serve as a reminder for me to never eat here again, no matter how much hunger distorts my judgement. I've eaten here many times in the past but my last two visits here left me upset. Tonight went here to kill some time, so I decided to split a platter with my friend. The waitress seemed peeved about us ordering such a little amount of food so we ordered beers. Food took a while to come but that's normal because the platter we ordered needs to be fresh (2 pupusas with rice, beans and plantains). This was my friends first time trying pupusas (which is basically a stuffed & fried tortilla). Being on of my favorite Salvadoreño dishes I ordered with confidence. When the food came she brought us twice as many pupusas as we ordered. I was pretty clear when I made my order. Fast forward to my friend trying the chorizo pupusa. The expression on his face I'll never forget. Personally I don't like pork so I assumed he didn't like the texture of the dish, but he insisted I smell his food. It smelled like "a-horse-stable," as he described it. It smelled quite rancid. We ate the rest of the food avoiding the oddly smelling Chorizo Pupusa. I explained to the waitress that we didn't order the two additional pupusas and she insisted that I did. Its been a long day, on top of me being embarrassed my friends food smelled like "a-horse-stable," I wasn't trying to argue with a waitress at 8:30pm. Lesson Learned. The pupusas were really great! We ordered a picadera and it was not worth the price. The chicharron had been cut into smaller pieces to make it seem as there was a lot of meat. Before the food here was worth every single penny today I went after 5 months and it has completely change. There isn't season on the food. There is only 2 waiters and the food take way too long to. The food is okay, depends what your order, I took the popusas...it's corn tortillas,a mixture of meats inside what looks like flat bread, I also had sweet plantain with smash beans, and to drink a special Central American called orchata...good stuff and sweet, the meal was semi satisfying, almost dried, the service very basic unlike other restaurants where they the waitress check to see if everything okay, this place has lots of room ,space to eat, looks more like a museum then a restaurant, over kill with the decor, the food depends what your eating it does need improvement I know Latin food specialy from this region and I can tell you I seen and tasted better. I used to eat here. I lile the tamal de elote con crema but the pupusas can be a hit or miss. Sometimes they are soggy as if they have been pre made. Prices are expensive and sometimes they play music loud. I ate here a handful of times but more than half of the times, it has been take out. Now i found another pupuseria El Comal, where the pupusas are amaazing, freshly made and prices are less expensive all around. read more

Growing up, my parents used to drive all the way to Jamaica to grab pupusas from El Rincón. I remember loving all the colorful decor and it really represents your traditional tacky Salvadoran restaurant. I have come here throughout the years and during my last visit here (about a year+ ago) I was still in love with the food. During my most recent visit however, I just really wasn't impressed like I had been in previous visits. I came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and the place wasn't packed. We took our seats and as always, I recommend ordering the pupusas since they're the most delicious Salvadoran staple and what I've always enjoyed most from their menu. After ordering, the wait for the food was much longer than expected considering the place wasn't very crowded. When I finally received the cheese & pupusas revueltas I ordered, I was filled with disappointment. The sauce for the pupusas was very watery and poorly made and the pupusas themselves were very dry. It was not the quality of food I've expected from El Rincón. I'm not sure if it just happened to be an "off" night or if their quality has just lessened over time but I used to really enjoy this spot. I'll probably be coming here again sometime soon and hopefully I'll be able to more positively change my review. read more

I placed an order for pick up at 1:30pm when i got to the restaurant at 2pm i realized the order wasnt placed into the system. HUGE FAIL! But okay I understand, the guy behind the register said 10mins. Im guessing he realized the mistake and will rush the order. 2:15...2:30 still no order. I asked one of the gentlemen walking around on the status of the order...said let me see...and i seen him walk around 5times by me without the update. The last time I visited this place I was so unpleased. But I like giving everything a second chance so I did. I came back with my mom, dad, aunt, & sister. My aunt ordered Sopa De Rez (beef soup) & Casamiento which is a traditional dish in El Salvador. Its rice and beans together. Mom sis & I ordered pupusas which are these tortillas stuffed with cheese or meat or beans or all together. We all waited for our food to arrive, which took a decent amount of time. When my aunt got the casamiento she noticed it had gone bad! Which means they probably serve left over food (reason being why i took of a star). My pupusas were delicious this time, they were not soggy or undercooked. They were perfect. My mom & sister agreed. When we got the check we noticed that the lady did not charge us for the casamiento we had returned & my aunt had ordered a plate of plain yellow rice, that was not charged either.
