This is the second time, I used Filberto and his wife for pond maintenance after hiring someone else who took almost 4 hours to do the same job, and charged more. I recommend Filberto and his wife to my neighbors for Pond cleaning, especially if you have fish (some pond cleaners wont clean your pond when you have fish, they want you to remove them). read more

I reached out to Filberto. He initially responded immediately and said he could come on Wednesday. I sent him a picture of the pond (per his request) and two follow-up emails. Heard nothing back. On Wednesday, just before 5:00PM, he said he could stop by, but was still in Portland, so could be a while. At best it meant he'd arrive by 6:00PM which would be far too late to do any work. He then asked if he could reschedule it to the next day. When I questioned him, he said "Hopefully you'd fine that reliable person". In short, he was unresponsive and unreliable. We called NW Pond and told them we had a leak and asked them to fix the leak, look for any additional leaks or areas that needed repair and also pressure wash and do a yearly inspection and maintenance check. Soon after they left, it was clear the water feature was still leaking. We called the same day and let them know. They returned several days later and attempted to fix the area we had identified as a possible leak, without attempting to search for any other areas that were possibly leaking. The next day, we called and let them know we still had a leak issue. They informed us, for them to return to repair any further leaks, it would be more $$. We are now going to call another service who specializes in leaks. If you want your water feature pressure washed, this service might be acceptable. Otherwise, save your money. read more

Terrible business. This company was recommended to me and what a mistake that was! I paid Filiberto $1,000 to fix a leaky pond. He swooshed in and out with his sons and it still leaked after they "fixed it" the same day. Came back a couple times for a short amount of time and threw some silicone on a couple different spots. He kept promising me they'd make it good as new. Then he supposedly hurt his back and stopped communicating. The last I heard was he'd fix it this spring. I emailed and I texted and he quit communicating. I paid him by check and he asked me to write it out to his son so he could dodge some the taxes. My pond had been losing water, and the pump motor burned out. I called Filiberto based on his excellent Yelp reviews. He came out to have a look, and correctly told me that the pump needed to be replaced. He would install the same model for $500, later in the week. He seemed very personable and knowledgeable. After he left, I took the pump out and opened it up. Completely fried. Saw the same Little Giant model on Amazon for $290, delivered. Filiberto wasn't surprised, and told me that he needed to charge me $80 for a service call (to look for the leak) and a $60 fee to "install" the pump, (understanding that it would take him less than 5 minutes) because driving to my location takes time and gas. I told him to go ahead, because I already saved $200 on the pump, and he needs to make a living. He didn't show up on the date he set, and didn't respond to several texts. He didn't return a message left on his business voice mail. A few days later he did text me, and told me he was fixing a leak in his bathroom at home when he was supposed to be here. He and his wife eventually came out, he replaced the pump (4 minutes) turned on the pond, and determined that roots had overgrown the top of the waterfall, moving some rocks around, and diverting water out of the upper reservoir. They moved rocks for about 10 minutes, and told me that they might have fixed the problem, but if the liner was disrupted by the roots, it would be a bigger deal to fix. A week later, I texted him to say the pond was still losing water. He replied promptly, texting "We need to think on how to approach it and if it's necessary to take the upper water fall apart and clear all of those roots which is a lot of work." I told him OK, but received no response. A week later, I texted him again, and asked if he wanted to fix it. No response. A week after that, I asked him to recommend someone to fix it if he didn't want to. Three days later, he sent me a text asking if the pond was losing water at the same rate. Now I'm excited, thinking that we might be having a conversation about fixing my pond. I told him that the pump had been shut off. I heard nothing more from him. A week after that, I texted him again that his repair didn't work, and asked if he was coming back to look at it or not. No response. A few days after that I texted him that I was going to call the Construction Contractors Board, because he was paid to fix my pond, it didn't work, and he was ducking my calls. That got a pretty immediate response. He explained that the $80 fee is just to search for and fix easy leaks, and that if the roots are causing the problem, I might need a "major reconstruction" done by a "major landscaping company." He wrote "I'm just a maintenance guy." I get it now, he doesn't like to do anything complicated. I didn't really want to bother him to do a job that's outside his comfort zone or physical capabilities. It's been more than a month, and I've started looking again for a pond contractor when I stumbled across Filiberto's new website showing him smiling and standing next to a bulldozer. He cites his years of experience building water features for Hughes, and offers to build ponds, remodel older water features, and install fences, patios and driveways. The house I recently bought has a small pond. The previous owners said they had it cleaned once a year but would not recommend the company they'd used in the past. I've had "philly" provide pond services since I moved into my home in 2012. At that time, I began looking for a landscaper, roof and gutters guy, appliance guy, housecleaner, septic tank guy, electrician, etc... Although I've switched between different personnel multiple times, I've stayed with Philly for my pond/waterfall since the beginning. He provides everything from pond maintenance and cleaning, to pond repairs, and to full scale pond designs. We have a fairly large waterfall feature at our home that empties into a large pond. He and his wife come regularly, often on short notice, and provide excellent and fairly-priced service. More importantly, his integrity is unmatched. I don't think Philly has the ability to cheat his customers. He simply tells you what needs to be done, and what doesn't need to be done. He has told me multiple times that there was no need for pond cleaning because the pond was already clean. I can tell that Philly takes a genuine pride in his work, and seeing a beautiful pond/waterfall feature is one of his top priorities. I contacted Filiberto nearly a month ago to have him clean my pond and recommend a better filtration system. He responded within a day or so, telling me that he would be on vacation for two weeks. I reached out after two weeks and he came out to give me an estimate but told me he couldn't start until the weather got cooler. I was having trouble keeping the pond clean after inheriting over 50 large fish and became concerned that he would not be able to do the job in a timely manner. Then my pond pump failed and I had to contact him again to let him know that I could not wait. He again said that the weather was too hot and that he was not responsible for my pond pump failure. He also said that it would be unable to help for several more weeks because he hurt his back. I gave up and hired another contractor who brought out a temporary pump and cleaned the pond the next day. Clean pond, new pump and filter system, happy fish. Oh, and no excuses from the replacement pond cleaner. Avoid this guy as he relies on excuses and doesn't care about your situation.
