The worst and filthiest experience ever! Total rip-off at $30 per person! My experience at NYC Buffet was an absolute disaster. We only ordered strawberries, grapes, french fries, and rice, but everything was incredibly bad, stale, and tasteless. I don't understand how a place can manage to ruin such simple food. To make matters worse, the restroom was unbelievably filthy and completely unhygienic. The lack of cleanliness throughout the place was deeply disturbing. On top of all this nightmare, it cost us $30 per person. Paying that much for this level of terrible service and health-hazardous food is unacceptable. It's a total waste of money and a risk to your health. Stay far away from this place! read more

Save your money and your tine. Most of the food is made poorly and some inedible. For the same money (especially if there is more than one person) I'd go to the Chinese restaurant on High and Bancroft. The interior is also particularly depressing. OMG! Worst buffet I have ever been to. Restaurant is not clean or kept up. Food was like 70% seafood, which isn't great for me, but even that looked absolutely disgusting. I have to update that I will never eat at this restaurant again. My bf and I both had a horrible experience yesterday ( we found out the hard way, this restaurant recycles their uneaten food from the day before. Sad part is they raised their prices which would be fine if their food was fresh but too much of their food yesterday did not taste fresh and I eventually got sick after leaving the restaurant. Buffets are slowly dying in my eyes I think, I grew up with them and seeing this one in the middle of East Oakland felt a bit dumbfounding. Their car park is very small that I had to get out because the amount of anxiety it gave me was not bearable. Inside is a big space, with plenty of food but not too sanitary. The floors felt wet and there were a lot of pealings from the counters. Felt fine with some food options. For the price, it felt okay, not sure what scenario to put it in; either you're moving and have no time to cook then this is the place or some sort of situation in life like that brings you. Service is direct, nothing extravagant. Would eat here if someone paid for me but not to go for a stretch. read more

They hide the price and tell you it's their fault but then tell you they are not going to do anything about it, they tell you it's a weekend price but keep the week day price up. When I go up there and ask about it she pulls out a new pricing and say " oh that's our fault" but don't do anything about it. Then wen I go to walk away she puts the price back under the counter Having said that, for the price the food was not that good, the floors are dirty and not hung was labeled right. read more

First off, with how much they charge for dinner ($27 per person), you would think they would get better furniture. To be honest, I was scared to even eat the food, but after paying $135 for 5 people I needed to at least try the food. I did not like it. I am so frustrated. The only thing that tasted okay was the BBQ short ribs. One of the things that I felt good about was seeing one of the cooks wearing a face mask. I do not recommend this place. read more

I'm giving five stars to average out some of the absolute dog sh!t reasons these yelpers give for one star reviews. First, if you are thinking of visiting this buffet you have to keep some things in mind. This establishment sits at the corner of 42nd and International Blvd. This is the HEART of urban Oakland, and if you're scared of homeless people and dirty streets, why are you even here? (Looking at you, Joy H.) Second, if you are a vegetarian seeking food that will accommodate your dietary needs....go somewhere else, why are you looking at buffets? The whole idea of a buffet is that it's open air food cross contaminating everything else (Wtf? Are you being freal, Sammy G.?) Seriously, some of these reviews are absolutely crazy lol Folks, this place charges $24, and you will be getting your money's worth for the price point. If you're looking for a fine dining experience, go shell out $100+ at some other buffet and I'm sure you'll get that luxury experience you're looking for. P.S. These establishments don't exist anymore FYI lol It's all a part of watching a once grand industry on its last legs and on its way out. Now, there are only two types of people who visit buffets regularly: 1) You're a fat a$$, and buffets are one of very few options you have to meet your desired caloric intake and stay within your financial means. 2) You're still a fat a$$, but like to occasionally engorge yourself on copious amounts of crab without racking up $300 at a normal restaurant. (Sorry, there's probably a third type like some folks just trying to provide food for their family, but for the sake of jokes we'll keep it to just the two) I happen to be type 2, and the fried crab here (sorry, no snow crab legs) are decent for the price you pay. It certainly feels like they use regular Dungeness, but I could be wrong. Who knows? And hey, are they fresh? Probably not. Can you crack open and wolf down several pounds of crab legs and claws without worrying about breaking the bank while shamelessly sitting in a corner of the restaurant covered in crab juice and marinade? Hell the fu#$ yes! And that is exactly what I did. Add in the occasional spoonful of mediocre fried rice and you, my friend, have what I call a king's ransom for dinner. "Look at our descendent, he is plump, and does not need to work to procure his food, nor does he have to clean up after himself and is catered to by the help. We have done well.", my ancestors would probably say. All joking aside though, the non-crab food is pretty meh. Again, don't expect 5 star deliciousness from the plates here, and if you're not one of the two types I listed before what are you even doing with your life and how did you end up at a buffet? What the reviews say about the bathrooms is fairly accurate, but not AS bad as they paint it -- just don't expect hotel level cleanliness. I would put it somewhere in between a public facility in Oakland and a normal bathroom you might find in your home (Look, it doesn't have shit stains on the walls, and you can relieve yourself and wash your hands. That's it.). The place itself is your usual dimly lit, casino-like atmosphere, and minimum required cleaning. No, there is no food littering the floor everywhere like one review claims. Lastly, it's been about 3 hours since I finished eating at this place and so far no signs of food poisoning, so if you're wondering if you should risk it and try this place, ask yourself these questions first, and if any of your answers are no -- don't come here: 1) Are your expectations in line with what buffets are widely known to deliver? 2) Are you capable of washing your hands and relieving yourself in a poorly maintained bathroom? 3) Are you aware this place is in the middle of f^cking Oakland and that the neighboring sites and images are not going to be picture perfect? 4) Are you on a non-date situation? (Why the hell would anyone bring a date here?) 5) Are you capable of parking and maneuvering around a normal-ass sized city parking lot? 6) Are you a type 1 or type 2? so so so scary a place to dine. Went there this past Sunday night looking forward to a decent dinner. Upon entry, my husband literally was shocked by how messy the restaurant was considering there was at least 3.7 star on Google Review. The carpet was dirty with dropped food(loose leaves, stepped upon food, etc) starting from entry. The more I walked into the restaurant, the dirtier the carpet was. My husband asked me to leave as soon as he entered the restaurant, but considering the Google Review is not too low, I insisted on at least trying the food. Nightmare began as I walked to the tables, and scarier the food areas. At least 50 tables, but only one cleaning staff I saw. some empty tables - but all packed with utensils/food left by previous. Finally the busy staff came to clean a table for us by wiping the table once and taking out used plates.I wanted to ask her to also clean the chairs, but of course she was too busy I didn't want to hold her plus, the cloth she used to clean the table - there is no way she will wash it or use a clean one to wipe the table again for us. Walked into the food area - omg floor is bombarded with food(fish, noodles, rice etc) so dirty! I tiptoed to find a way - but so hard !! I gave up by just checking out the food twice. I picked up a "clean" plate from the plate pile - shocked to find the plates were greasy! The pile of plates was greasy! Is it because they weren't washed or because not enough dish soup was used? Should have left the restaurant by then... but I insisted on trying the food because I saw seafood on pictures posted by others... no crab legs or oysters or mussels as I saw online... they were gone and most of the food was not replenished. I managed to pick one plate with mushrooms, broccoli beef, and fried shrimp... and man... the meat tasted like they procured the past used-by-date items only... no meat is even decent. Did I mention the oil? They taste like the oil has been used for more than a few days.... I was actually hungry so I took another plate of mushroom, and tried the just replenished chicken veggie dish. Even the chicken tasted like chicken that went bad... Summary: 1. So dirty.... (may you compare it to a public bathroom) 2. Most food was not there(I was there at just 6pm) 3. Food is not fresh even the basics(chicken, beef, shrimp) 4. 25 dollars per person for dinner.....(will you even go there if invited for free...) My first time here and I was not impressed. The food was most cheap tasting and some things were health hazards. The Chinese food which they're supposed to specialize in was horrible. The best tasting thing was the shrimp and sushi. However the sushi didn't even taste fresh. 25$ is not really it for all of this. Overall, a satisfying experience. They have 2 types of house soup (seafood egg drop and beef), tried both and they were decent. Sushi bar was okay, hot food items was plentiful selection. I didn't see too much that looked like they were sitting around a long time. This is an AYCE buffet. It does that reasonably priced. It was $21 total lunch midweek. I hate AYCE restaurants but every now and then I'm there. The only reason I hate them is because I try to eat my monies worth and just end up eating too much and hate myself for doing it. At $25 this place isn't bad. I try to take advantage of the fish opportunities and this place includes sashimi and sushi. So if I just loaded up on the sashimi I'd get my $$ worth and walk out guiltless. Unfortunately they really don't have a good salad bar. It's buffet. Cruise past the jello, pizza, and other junk. Almost every Chinese cuisine you have ever ordered from your local carry-out or dine-in is there steaming hot. Cantonese and Hunan dishes abound. Seafood bar with shrimp, mussels, baby octopus, and crawdads, BBQ items grilled to order. pick your own stir fry, sushi bar, and deserts all are appealing. A really clean store with the most accommodating service. Best of all... It's $10 all inclusive, per person! The food is good. Granted, it's not like you are at R&L Lounge, Yank Sing, or Oceanic. It's a step up from Panda Express and P.F. Chang's. And still... It's ten bucks each! I brought a friend that lives in Marin and she was a bit aprehensive about coming to Oakland at the corner of 42nd and International Blvd. I explained that if you're not from the hood, not to worry. This is probably the dirtiest buffet I've ever visited...the "clean" plates still had food on them, the tables were greasy and the restroom was filthy. The sushi was dry, the soups were watered down and the rest of the items didn't meet my dinning needs. I did however like the shrimp selection and the green beans were delicious...loved the touch of garlic. The garlic bread was very tasteful and they had a good selection of tea and fountain drinks. The restaurant was quiet and had a variety of folks dining this evening. The staff however seemed lazy and not focused on cleaning the dinning area cleaned. They did start to clean up once my party of 9 made it obvious of how filthy almost everything was... I'd like to ad that they aren't kid friendly, only $1.00 difference for seniors and Do Not do military discount. Sadly, I will not be returning to this place. read more

It's a rare occasion that I'll "one star" any business. But, here goes. I would opt out of the stars altogether if I could. I'm not even sure where to begin. Buffets by and large tend to be subpar, and I get that. But this place takes the cake. Dirty, lacking service, unprofessional staffing, and did I mention dirty? (Although, the woman who greeted us was nice.) lol Typically one goes into the restroom to wash one's hands before a meal. I can honestly say, the restroom alone made me want to ask for my money back. (You pay upon arrival.) It was disgusting. I wish that were the gist of it. We arrived at around 5:30/6ish, the place was a wreck. 1/2 of the dining room, dark and sectioned off, the other 1/2 with numerous empty tables, guests long gone, never having been cleared let alone wiped down. Yet the two people working this section were filling soy sauce bottles??? The food, what there was of it.... had clearly been left over from lunch, and many of the trays were either empty or almost there. Mind you, it was not busy when we arrived. Having already paid, I navigated around the slop, choosing plain white rice, and strategically choosing the few things that seemed to have just come from the kitchen. Here's the kicker! Towards the end of my meal, I was mentioning to my companion the lack of sanitary attention. (Dirty partitions, caps off of all sauce bottles, food on the tables & floors, etc...) And a guy comes out of the kitchen with a towel. I'm thinking, "Yay! He's going to clean." Nope. He walks the food station area, fluffing up the old food and then does the unthinkable! I loooooooooooooooove NYC Buffet! Can I add more ooooooo's to love? Delicious choices galore. Nice friendly and sanitary staff. So many dishes that I love to choose from. Great price paid 60$ for 2 adults 1 senior and one toddler. Can't beat that price for the scrumptious meal! Update! I would take my snobby friend here and he would complain about why they don't bring water fast enough and I'm like chill out this place is so reasonably priced and delicious. Whoever expects 5-star food at a $10 AYCE buffet? I don't. I come here very rarely - mostly when I am super hungry and don't care. I am not big on buffets, because I can't really eat that much in one sitting, but this one is OK-ish. The food is a mixture of Chinese and Mexican dishes, soups, fruit, seafood and the typical appetizers, pizza, sushi and Mongolian BBQ. And a lot of desserts, salads If you pick wisely and don't fill up on the carbs so much, you can have a surprisingly pleasant lunch. I like the elote, ginger beef, dim sum and sushi collection and the veggies, which are still crunchy when you don't come too late. What I would never eat here: ice cream (salmonella galore!), cakes and the fish dishes au gratin (seafood and cheese is a very unfortunate combo in my book). What I really like here is the mix of clientele. Hookers and vendors from International, families, old folks, Basket- and Football player-sized youth with huge appetites. And yes, the occasional fat guy in the corner with three overloaded plates in front of him. What else? Oh yes... don't look down, the floor is disgusting! The service is pretty bad, too, but you don't need the servers apart from being seated, getting your drinks and your check. They are Chinese-friendly, which means: they don't smile and look at you with disdain when you ask something. If your on a budget and want to be satisfy for the whole day, this is the place. This place has a whole row of sushi (boiled crabs during dinner time) and mostly serves Chinese/Asian foods. Sometimes the food can be salty and oily, other times it can actually taste good. I suggest you to go when it lunch or dinner time where the foods are heated and hopefully freshly-made. The place is pretty big; big enough to walk around the food area without moving out of the way when another person is coming in. I went during lunch hour, wasn't crowded, but where we sat was a bit sticky and dirty. Parking space, they have their own in the back side on the building but limited. P.S: I suggest you order some soda drinks or if your just going to drink water, add lemon to disinfect the smell and the taste. read more

After seeing that sign for months, this place finally opened. We've heard mixed reviews from friends and family - so we decided to try it out for ourselves. Being located on a pretty busy street - parking wasn't very easy. The good thing is that they have a parking lot, the bad thing is that it fills up pretty quickly. We were lucky to have found a spot after circling for maybe 5 minutes. Needless to say, this place is pretty big, but the food selection is limited. There's your regular Asian foods, some sushi in the back, an area to get food freshly prepared, fruits, sauces, ice cream and some seafood on ice. My favorite item was probably the pistachio ice cream I had at the end. The service here is lame. A waitress was clearing a table next to us, dropped one of the plates and whatever was on there splashed on my dude's hoodie. She leaves, comes back as if nothing happened, and when he told her, her response was, "oh, sorry sir" and does nothing. NO TIP! read more
