Came here for dinner and can say I have had way better. Food was really old tasting and it felt like they had kept it out for hours. I only ate a decent amount because I was hungry and didnt want to completely just leave in anger. Wanted to give it a chance. Service was horrendous. There is a clear language barrier which makes for really awkward interactions. The staff didnt seem like they wanted to be there. My family(mostly my mom) are regulars here. Today my mother experienced terrible customer service with one of the workers when she told a man that the bbq chicken was not fully cooked. Instead the man shouted and said "we're busy! We're busy!" And how my mother put food back on the line. (May I remind you this is UNCOOKED CHICKEN) Now I've part of the food industry for a couple of years and this is definitely NOT how you handle a situation like this. She spoke with the nice manager and the manager wanted to compensate my mother with the food. Even though my mother already paid for the food, she refused to get her money back. She did not want to "steal" from them but just to point out how rude one of the workers were and that they should do something about him. One star for the manager and the other star for the bbq lol. I really love this buffet. They offer a wide variety of tasty food. I always come here for the seafood. They have good sushi. Also for dinner time they have oysters! I love eating them with lemon and hot sauce. They have a pretty good selection of fresh fruit. They got good dessert and ice cream. The servers are nice and attentive. If you are desiring those kinds of foods this is not the place for you. $24 at an all you can eat buffet is pretty cheap. However, for cheap prices you can expect incredibly cheap foods. Majority of the food provided at this buffet you can simply airfry/microwave at home and you will get equal/better quality food. However, at a buffet, I would expect all the food to be atleast edible, and the salmon and sushi did disappoint. It seemed as if they unwrapped a frozen cut of salmon from costco, cut it up, and threw it on a platter to serve. Despite this, the fried shrimp tempura, crusted shrimp, were actually delectable. Again, do not come here expecting incredible and magical dishes. Although, you can expect to come here, enjoy 1 or 2 dishes out of the entire buffet, and get full off of a cheap price. read more

It's good for what it's good for. . . . Here is what it's good for: 1) You have ample parking in a lot surveiled by video cameras you can watch from the dining room. You won't get a ticket or your car messed with while you are here. 2) It's centerally located, right off the freeway and on International. 3) It is pretty cheap (affordble) and a decent value. 4) They have plenty of seafood dishes- salt and pepper crab and shrimp, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp, clams and oysters, talapia, flounder, etc. Most of it seems fresh and is tasty. 5) The sushi and Sashimi is pretty good. There is a turn-over issue with some things being out longer than others, but if you ask, they will make you a fresh roll. 6) There is a noodle bar with various items and they will cook-to-order with your favorite sauce. NICE! 7) They have a decent selection of ice cream and a few pastries for the sweet-tooth. Here is what you WON'T find: 1) This place lacks the salad bar found in most buffets. They just don't have many salads or salad fixins- and that is something I like in other places. 2) They don't have much variety in the prepared dishes. In most buffets, I'd expect to find mac n'cheese, tamale pie, pasta dishes, etc but here, most of the casseroles are things that you would find in a chinese restaurant like mongolian beef or lemon chicken. 3) The selection of desserts is limited. You won't find chocolate cake, cherry cobbler or cheese cake here. Think chinese bakery and you will be close. So, my verdict is this: If you want to eat a pile of shrimp and crab or sushi, you can easily get your money's worth here. Go hungry! read more

Just when I had lost hope for a decent buffet in Oakland, I decided to give Century Buffet a try even though the reviews were all over the place. One thing I've learned is that while I trust Yelp as a starting point, the star ratings and reviews are naturally subjective and I often need to reserve judgment for myself. At 2.5 stars, Century Buffet was well below my usual bottom threshold of 3 stars, but since there were a number of 3's and 4's to balance the 1's and 2's I figured it was at least worth a shot. As Asian buffet's go, this one is pretty darn good, and the selection is quite large. There were 10+ tables of buffet to select from and each table had about 8-10 choices. Everything was warm to hot and because the place is (1) large and (2) probably 50% full when I went, so the turnover on replenishment was pretty good. Their sashimi was even a C+/B- for quality, with the best being the Super White Tuna. Only thing I wish is that they had some beer selections... :) read more

The best BUFFET IN TOWN. I have eaten lots of good buffets before but the RATallini soup is good. Thier was no fish eye balls in my sushi which sucked but all the food was delicious. The white rice was probably the best thing thier but it had some man juice on it. If you like cockroach sandwiches then this is the spot. Plus it's a front row seat for most sideshows. Having had my share of plates at Gold Medal, I can tell you, they provide you with 8 prawns in an order over rice at a cost of $9 with 15% tip. ----So fast forward to Century Buffet, they have a similar dish in their buffet, which at my last visit, amongst much other food, I piled on 25 prawns on my dish. So, why spend $9 for a single dish, when I can have that same dish, plus Sushi, Sea Bass, and over 50 more different options for the same price!! A few things, I find their food to be at the same level if not better than pretty much any other Chinese restaurant I have tried in the Bay Area. ----I will also go so far to say, their Sushi is also close. The whole fried fish was pretty good. Freshly fried, not greasy at all and decent sized fish, though very bony. Other seafood items were food. Tasted fresh and there were a wide assortment. Oh, but steer clear of the crawdads. Blech! Overcooked and flavorless. Nice try for folks not from the Gulf/South. You can get a take away box and pay for food by the pound. Not sure how much food is per pound, but if you need to bring back some lunch for a co-worker or friend perhaps this will be a good option. Please note, if you order Iced Tea, it will be the sweetened stuff. I didn't like it but some folks swear by super sweet iced tea. The restaurant was nicely laid out and comfortable. Tables and chairs were very clean and pretty comfy too. Waitstaff were nice, didn't hover but watched us from afar and asked frequently about drink refills. Parking lot is small but at least there is parking. Always watch for cars as you are entering, parking and leaving. Some of my fellow Oaklanders can't drive for BLEEP! This is the worst buffet I have ever been to. The selection of foods are meat based. The only options they have for vegetarians are green beans and bok choy and premade salad with an assortment of dressings without labels. The staff are extremely rude and hover over you. I finished my first plate of green beans and rice in less than 15 minutes and went to go get seconds. I come back to the table and the waitress had already cleared and cleaned my table. I went to go get my second plate ate it then went back to get some ice cream. The bitch was clearing my table. I will never come here again. Very disappointed. I'd been wanting to go here for a few years and finally took the plunge. I wish I hadn't. Walking through the buffet area, you got constant whiffs of rotten food. Of the 4 dishes I dared to try, 3 were cold. The floor was sticky, most of the glass had heavy streaks as if it were all wiped by the same grimy washcloth, and I could smell dried urine from 15 feet outside the Men's room (which happened to be where my table sat). I just went to this brand new all-you-can-eat buffet for dinner and found it to be a great value, especially if you're a seafood lover. Dinner starts at 3:30 pm and costs $12.99 per person. Dinner means you can eat as much crab as you want. They also have cocktail shrimp, mussels, clams, prawns, grilled octopus and baked oysters, which were really good. In addition to seafood, they have sushi and nigiri (just mediocre) along with all the regular Chinese dishes (didn't try these). Some other items that stood out were stuffed mushrooms and baked ham that you carve on the spot. They have several dessert options like cream eclairs, cake, macaroons, ice cream (about 8 flavors), pastries and fruit. Overall, I thought this new restaurant is a great value and I guess others are thinking the same because it was packed at 4:20 pm on the Saturday of the SF Giants first semifinal game against the Phillies. I hate this place! Ever since one of the waiters tried to steal my iPod, I NEVER went back! I walked in with my family and the waiter assigned us a table. The waiter asked us for drinks but my mother was asking me questions, so I placed my iPod with my purse down on the table for a moment. While my back was turned, the waiter literally SNATCHES the iPod from the table and abruptly walks away. I was too distracted by my mother to know what the waiter took. I assumed it was just the ticket for the table. When we left, I looked through my purse but noticed my iPod was missing. I had no idea where it was. So I went back down to that stupid restaurant, I told the manager I was looking for a black iPod but he didn't know anything. I pointed out the waiter who served us and he asked him if he saw it by chance.... I'm not kidding when I say the waiter got FRANTIC at my question that he walked away from the soda machines to serve a table. Another server came behind the counter, putting down some dishes and we posed the same question. He asked me how it looked and guess what? He pulled out my black iPod from behind the counter and said: "This must be it then. It's the only thing here anyway. Here you go." Bless his soul for such kindness. The manager didn't even seem to care that one of his employees just tried to steal from his customers. He just wanted me to leave and had a look on his face saying "You got it back.... Just go already." I learned my lesson. Never turn your back for a moment and keep your belongings with you at all times! I hate this place and recommend it to NOBODY! The Century Buffet sign was up for a long time, so I was very excited to try it once it actually opened. I've gone twice now -- once for lunch and once for dinner. Overall, the food was great for a Chinese buffet and worth the price. I don't think I'd go for lunch again, but I'd definitely go for dinner. Some of the food was the same between the two meals, but the dinner options seemed a lot better, especially when it came to the sushi. There were more seafood options available during dinner, like the crab. I loved the clams and octopus and popcorn shrimp. I also enjoyed the vegetable tempura -- not super bready like some other places. I really like that they have a station where someone will cook you a noodle dish or stir fry made just how you like it. They had several options of noodles and meats available. There were plenty of dessert options. Being that I stuffed myself with a ton of seafood, I opted for some fruit and ice cream. I would place my experience at Century Buffet as alright & give it a score of 3 stars. It is not the best one nor the worst one. At first it was passable. The communal ice cream scoop+customers with dirty hands I could overlook. I got violently ill on my last visit here most likely from seafood cross contamination. Things are mixed in with one another, and the customers just made an already sketchy situation worse. Sushi is limited in selection as is the Mongolian Grill. Servers and kitchen staff look stressed, overworked and unhappy. Facilities are not clean. Not a place for vegans, people with food allergies or anyone with a weak stomach. Pork and chicken are consistently undercooked. The desert bar is the only saving grace of this place, limited but good. Well, it's an Asian buffet. I'm not looking for good service but what I am looking for is sushi that doesn't taste fishy, a better selection for your "Mongolian BBQ." Unsatisfactory on both of those counts. However, their cooked seafood is pretty good and their prices are reasonable as long as you stick with water as your beverage (they even charge for tea).
