I have been coming here since I was a kid and have shared this spot with both best friends and my family. We absolutely love coming here. It has the no frills atmosphere you'd expect, but the food speaks for itself. First of all, portions are HUGE. They have such a large menu and it's hard to go wrong with anything here. The wonton soup, peking duck, steamed sea bass, and chinese broccoli are some of my favorites but everything has been delicious. Service is great, too. I was craving chow fun and my Uncje recommend we stop at New Gold metal restaurant. I saw that they also has Peking duck and bbq pork spare ribs in the window. I was considering getting a whole duck, but after seeing the price I'd was was a hard no for me, I ordered my seafood chow fun to go as my Uncle and I had other errands to run. The customer service here wasn't that good as my uncle and I waited to be helped and waited patiently and the phone rings and they lady starts taking the phone order as though we weren't standing there. I personally wanted to walk out, but my uncle said, this place had some of the best chow fun so I stayed. I get my food and the chow fun did look good and when finally got home the chow in is top notch! There is plenty of seating for dining and the bathrooms were pretty disgusting. I've been a customer for take-out since I moved to this area in 2013. I typically get take-out from them twice per week, sometimes more frequently. Each time I spent an average of $80-$100. I am also one of those who pretty much order the same 3-4 dishes in rotation. This afternoon I ordered 4 items that came out to be around $80. One dish caught my attention coz it was in a soup container. So I pointed out to the cashier that it doesn't look like the scrambled egg with shrimps that I ordered. The cashier insisted that scrambled egg with shrimps is soupy like that and that is how they always make the dish. I told her that I've been getting take-away from them for 13 years, and I know what scrambled egg with shrimps looks like. Had the lady been willing to admit that they messed up my order and offer to make me a new one, I would have been a good customer and offer to pay for the replacement knowing that the economy is a bit tough at the moment. However, the lady insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about even though I told her I order this dish every 2 or 3 weeks if not every other week. All I was looking for was an acknowledgement that they either took the wrong order or the kitchen made the wrong dish for me. I wasn't looking for a freebie. (I told them that I would still pay for the dish immediately after pointing out they made the wrong dish for me.) Was it that difficult for them to admit they made a mistake? I won't be petty and say craps about their customer service and their increased price. Others have already covered these areas in their reviews. I want their management to know they've lost a 13-year customer, if they bother to read Yelp reviews. They are not the only Chinese restaurant in Oakland Chinatown. Stopped in for the 1st time with a couple friends. We had a few dishes including the chicken wings-well done, won ton soup, jellyfish and egg foo yong. The food was great . The service was off. Every time we needed to ask for something like water, the wings to be cooked well done etc. it was a debate.ie; "don't you see their wings at the table next to you" which we did, and we wanted ours well done. I have been coming here with my family since I was a little girl. My go-to is the won ton soup - huge dumplings in a savory, salty broth. My family also loves their rice plates- bbq pork over rice and half roast duck/half roast pig over rice. This is a top rated Chinese spot that's open late in Chinatown, Downtown Oakland. I liked that it felt very authentic, starting me off with a pot of tea. I ordered the sweet & sour pork over white rice... & I've definitely had better. There were very chewy/fatty pieces, it was a bit soggy & not crispy enough for my liking. my in-laws enjoys the food here. I have gotten takeout here often and only actually eaten in the resturant a few times. Family favorites would be the whole soy sauce chicken and roast port, and menu items such as won tons, water dogs and chow mein. A very classic taste and always busy with business. Even when grocery stores close down at 5 nearby, this restaurant remains open. The restaurant is clean, the doors are open with fresh air through out. When I order food to go, it's ready in about 15 minutes, then I hike back to my car and take the goodies home. Never any problems, staff is nice, English and Cantonese. read more

So I brought over a few bottles of wine from our most recent winery trips/tours. And he ordered Uber Eats from New Gold Medal. Half Roast Duck - $20.95; not meaty... If you are following, the last two ducks we had in SF were AMAZING!!!!! What a disappointment with this one. Message me if you need the name of the two restaurants (but expect to pay). Steam Chicken - $15.95, again NOT meaty. And the ginger sauce lacked ginger?!?! Basically an oil. I can see why you have a 3.6 average Yelp rating. 2 Rices - $2.75 each; this was actually good. Soft and fluffy. Atmosphere - N/A. Service - Packaged well, you can almost not mess up. Took Uber Eats an hour to deliver. But then again, he lives in the hills and his house is almost hidden!!! In the past, we used to have to wave down the drivers in the street as NO one was able to find the house. But what amazing views!!! Too bad I am not allowed to show pictures. I am tougher on Chinese restaurants as I have lots of varied experiences with many different places. I ordered delivery late night since I was craving some comfort food. So I can't comment on the service or the restaurant itself. The food was above average. Chicken and Salted Fish fried rice - 6.5/10 - better than average but this is a staple Chinese dish and should have been better Shrimp with Satay Sauce chow fun - 8/10 - this was much better than the fried rice. It was very tasty. Overall I think If I ate in the restaurant the rating might have been higher. But the food easily earns 4 stars. read more

We stopped in for a nice dinner, I came here before with my folks after the club, it was one of the few places still open. It's open until 3a and the staff are friendly, we enjoyed Le Le our server. They have the best chow mein on this side of town. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, unfortunately my friend tasted one and told me and Le Le they were burnt. She gladly took them back and cancelled the order. The cook told her that's the only way they prepare them. The sweet and sour prawns were right up our alley. You can't go wrong with bbq duck, wontons, salt n pepper fried pork chops, chow meins, and even vegetarian options are good here. Lobster and crabs are also delicious. While I wouldn't consider this place to be cheap.. I think it's a solid spot to get your Chinese food cravings. Most entrees will run you at least $20 now, but everything is meant to be shared family style. Their roast pork, duck, bbq pork and steamed chicken are good here and you can get a 3 meat combo for about $30.. It'll feed 3 with some rice so its not that bad. I love the honey walnut shrimp here, the shrimps are thicc and juicy, the glaze is sweet and creamy without being overly so, and their walnuts have the perfect glaze and crunch to pair with the shrimp. This is a go to for me. Their salt and pepper fish is okay, batter is too thick. The wonton soup is so yummy! They have big chunks of shrimp and the pork is flavorful and juicy. They put lettuce in the soup though, so remember to ask them to exclude this cause it taints the broth in the worst way. I haaaaateee hot lettuce, so idk what that's about. If you want, you can also get this with egg noodles to make it more of a meal. Another go to is their beef chow fun with gravy. It's only good fresh though, not really great as a to go item cause it gets soggy. But if you can eat it fresh, or soon after pick up, this is a must! BF loves their beef with runny egg.. I'm not a fan personally, it's just too soupy and eggy for me but the beef is tender AF. The westlake soup has lots of flavor but they're skimpy with the beef and veggies that should be in it. Really good soup option though if you just want something hot to sip on. Whether you dine in or not, service is meh. They're not exactly friendly, and they might give you some disgruntled faces, but it is what it is. Their chili sauce is good, and you can have as much as you want if you dine in however if you're taking to go, they'll skimp you and give you two tiny cups MAYBE, even if you ask nicely. This place is popping, street parking only, and don't be surprised if you see people double parked all over cause they're trying to pick up. A good lunch, dinner and even late night eat. Especially to soak up some of that liquor:). The menu is quite extensive from soups, dims sum and some of the traditional Chinese food entrees. Love how the service is quick, including the quick turnaround from ordering to the food on your table. I mean it's called Golden Noodle. So you can never go wrong with/ and of their chow miens or chow funs. The combination Chow Mein is one of my favorites. I'd also highly recommend their soups. You can't go wrong with/ hot & sour nor wor won ton. Especially if you're sick and need a pickup. Honestly the Peking Duck is forgettable. Every time I've ordered the dish, although it's flavorful, super fatty and not a lot of meat :( If you're ever in the area, I would advise stopping by. We were craving Hong Kong style noodles and after some debating, we decided to come to Gold Medal. It wasn't our first time having New Gold Medal but it was my first time dining in. While some restaurants in the area were busy at the time, we were fortunately able to get seated right away on a Sunday morning and ordered the char siu and roasted duck, and the beef chow fun char siu, roasted duck - solid flavors, decent portions beef chow fun - great flavors as well. I normally avoid Chinatown at all costs because of the terrible parking situation. But for a Tuesday night and most of the surrounding buildings are markets that are closed, parking wasn't too bad, although the lighting walking around was still terrible. I haven't been to new gold medal since I was a kid and yelp wasn't even a thing yet so this was nostalgia for me. The prices have obviously gone up, but still relatively inexpensive compared to everything else out there. We got wonton noodle soup and their new gold medal crispy fried noodles. Both were flavorful. The wontons were smooth and silky with the soup on the salty side. But it was perfect on a gloomy cold night. The crispy fried noodles came with chicken, bbq pork, seafood, mushrooms, and bok choy. It was fried perfectly as soon as it came out with sauce under it that slowly soaked up. The dish was also a bit on the saltier side but I'm not complaining, it was flavorful and hit the noodles craving just right. The service was normal. They were attentive and quick whenever we asked for something like the bill or a to go box. I actually really love the fact that they did not come checking in on you in the middle of dinner because people seem to always do that mid bite to me. You need something, you get their attention and they will help you out, my ideal service. They also have a butcher stop at the front where you can order and pick stuff like roast duck, roast chicken, roast pork, and bbq pork. It can be your typical fast food Chinese to go spot if you choose not to sit down. But for the restaurant side, the food and service was solid. The price is pretty good compared to everything else out there. It's really your average Chinese restaurant and butcher spot. read more

Good spot for Chinese food in Oakland Chinatown. I came by for lunch with a friend Friday afternoon around noon and it wasn't too crowded. They have a good selection of dishes to choose from. We shared #291 mixed seafood with bean cake in clay pot ($19.95) and #86 BBQ combination over rice with roast pork / siu yuk, roast duck, and bbq pork / charsiu ($20.95). We both really enjoyed the seafood claypot. Flavors were on point and it came with a generous amount of tofu and seafood. The bbq combo platter was just... okay. The bbq pork / charsiu was good, not as sweet as I was expecting, and the duck was decent as well, but I didn't like the roast pork / siu yuk that much. Other than the crispy skin which was done well, I found the meat to be super dry and bland. I'd love to come back and try some of their other dishes. read more

Cantonese cuisine at its best. Truly the best I've ever had. The duck was cooked perfectly and came with an excellent sauce. Braised lamb in the clay pot was one of the best things I've put in my mouth. It contained fresh ginger, water chestnuts, shiitake mushrooms, and of course, lamb, bone-in. My dining companion and I started off with wonton soup, which she ordered. I never would have ordered it for the simple reason that I simply do not like wonton soup. I find it too bland. I was shocked when tried it because I loved it, which brings me to why the food is so good here. It's the flavors. Everything is incredibly flavorful. A nice man came by bussing tables. They yelled at my fiancé that he should've ordered it differently (lol how sway? literally ordered what it said on the to-go menu!) He apologized even though he didn't need to, and it was a whole thing of them saying the soups were the same (they are not lol, a completely different color!)
