So I came here for dinner with my parents since they like this place. I tried my damned hardest to suggest other places over Century Buffet because of location and the types of food they have. They do have sashimi and sushi but as with buffets, those come on a recommendation to avoid like the plague. I stuck with the cooked food and it still wasn't good. The self serve ice cream station was atrocious. They should have employees serving the ice cream instead of kids with their grimy ass hands all over the scooper. Alameda County Health Department is coming to shut this place down. I went here on Friday evening, 12/19, for dinner. My friend and I tried the various buffet offerings. Nothing was fresh. We both felt ill as we left the restaurant. The worst was yet to come. The crab legs had been re-cooked so many times that the meat was totally stuck to the shell. No way to extract it with the normal utensils. Normally I would have discarded such inedible food, but there are signs posted EVERYWHERE threatening to charge you additional money for "wasted food" So I attempted to crack and extract as much meat as possible. That was probably a mistake. The sushi... that was the next thing I tried. When I went up there the first time, there was only a dish of California rolls (imitation meat) and 4 pieces of a green roll I believe were the seaweed variety. I took 2 pieces of california roll and 1 piece of the green roll. The green roll dropped on the floor. Oops! I snuck bashfully back to the table, hoping nobody had noticed and wouldn't charge me for the wasted food. I ate the rolls, which weren't very good, and looked back at the buffet. I saw what appeared to be a new plate of sushi rolls. I went back over to get some "fresh" rolls. When I got there, I noticed they were not new rolls, but they had just consolidated the leftovers onto a single plate. Upon closer examination, the california rolls were there, but there were 4 pieces of the green seaweed roll! Not 3 like I had left it, but 4! They had picked up the dropped roll off the floor and put it back in the buffet, along with 2 other pieces of a roll topped with avocado. I am certain that the 2 pieces of the avocado topped roll were not there on my first trip. The avocado was oxidized to a putrid brownish-gray color. If the nasty avocado rolls had been at the sushi buffet on my first visit, there is no way I would have tried anything from the sushi area. They were not there, and then a minute later they were. Obviously the rolls had been taken from someone's leftover plate, along with the roll I dropped on the floor, and put back into the buffet. Enough said about the food. Here's what happened after we left: My firend had severe diarrhea as soon as we got to his house. That lasted him the whole night and next day. I felt very ill, but my stomach was not letting the poison go south. After 6 hours of agonizing nausea, I got home and projectile vomited for the rest of the night. My stomach is still not right 2 days later. So I decided to look this place up. It seems that the health department shut the place down in June of this year. Then I read an article. In November, just last month, the owner was put in jail for 15 counts of labor violations: failing to pay minimum wage to employees, payroll fraud, and 1 felony charge for interfering with the criminal invertigation. The place was raided, and they found 19 employees working on one shift, but the owner has reported only 6 to 12 TOTAL employees on the payroll. The poor workers. The poor customers. Shame on the rotten owner. I hope he faces the consequences of his criminal behavior. Serving rotten food to paying customers and then screwing the hard working people who do his filthy business. I reported this place to the County Health Department. They took a full report and will send agents in the next few days. The most appropriate justice would be for the owner to serve time in jail, and the county health department will arrange for his meals to be served from the buffet leftovers. The abused workers should get the money from the sale of this guy's estate. I hope his family can experience the pain and poverty they inflict on others. read more

this buffet place is huge inside. serves your typical chinese buffet food, but better. they had the mongolian style station where you put together your fried noodle plate and do check out the ice cream station located next to the sushi. more flavors than just vanilla and chocolate. some yelpers mentioned the deal on seafood, but it lacked flavor. it was just boiled seafood. i liked the sushi. some of the food items were sweet, when theyre supposed to be savory. i would come back since its cheap. i ordered the iced tea when i first got there, which i should note to myself never to order again. it was already sweetened and tasted like a fruity watered down drink. after, waiters are just there to clear the empty plates on your table. read more

This place is just like any other Chinese buffet. All the regular chicken and beef you can get. The sushi is okay, and the seafood is alright as well. The only thing bad is that you have a whole bunch of Mexican kids running around coughing on all the food and what not. Service isn't all that great. I was in the middle of eating some rice and i left the table to grab a spoon and when i came back my plate was gone (The people there thought i was done with my food and took it). I remembered this place from a few years ago and the food was pretty good.BOY HAS THIS PLACE CHANGED. I WAS EMBARRASSED IN FRONT OF MY FRIENDS. I don't think that they have cleaned the carpet since then. It was absolutely filthy. The place also has a nasty smell , the bathrooms were horrible. We arrived at 4pm on a weekday and was promptly seated at a dirty table. This is an okay buffet. And we find ourselves coming back for some reason - just being in the area, the idea of all you can eat sushi, looking for a not-too-fancy place. This place is garbage! You have to seat yourself and the staff, especially the female standing at the hostess station, was rude! Everything from the floors - under the table and around the food stations was nasty to remnants of food stuck in the blinds - how this happened is beyond me. So a friend took me here on Tuesday. I haven't been to many buffets, in fact I think home town is the only one I've ever been to. It's a family thing I guess. So when I walked into this one, now called NYC buffet, I was pleased. We were sat down immediately and ordered drinks. Then we got up and grabbed plates to begin looking for food. I nearly lost it in that buffet, because I saw so many of my favorite foods, and sushi!! I'm big on sushi, so seeing it there neatly placed was a joy. I grabbed a bit of everything, for the most part. I got an extra plate just for fruit as well. Our drinks were waiting for us at our table when we came back with our food. Neither I nor my friend had any complaints. He and I didn't have any issues with noise, and we enjoyed ourselves, eating and laughing and generally having a good time. I was shocked when the bill came back and was only 24 bucks. It's so much more when we go to a sushi restaurant, obviously, but I got my fill of sushi anyways, so I was happy. Overall it was a nice experience, with great food for a good price! I'm not a food snob or overly critical, so if I like the food and it's prepared properly I don't ask for much else. The service was terrible. Nobody smiled or was friendly at all. My family & I (party of 10) got to the buffet around 7 pm. They were short handed, (So it seemed) and most tables were still dirty. (No bus boy?) We were finally seated at a table that wasn't big enough for our party, but the hostess insisted we sit at a table for 8. We finally all sqweezed in and during our dinner we felt rushed from the staff as they were trying to seat another large party at our table. They kept hovering over us as if we were going to steel the silverwear. It seemed as though the staff that was there was overworked and not very friendly at all. As we were leaving, about to pay , The waiter yells from accross the room Hey you didn't leave a tip! The service was so bad, he didn't deserve a tip. The communication was bad between us. We went home and had a friend call that spoke fluent english. He asked for the manager to complain "Steve" got on the phone and said that all he could do was give us a 15% discount the next time we went in there and that Joe the waiter will be fired.. (which I think is a crock of shit. We will never go back to a place that doesn't have the decency to be courtiuos to their customers or that does not make us feel welcomed. I understand that you get what you pay for so I didn't have a high expectation to begin with. The food seemed to be so-so, and missing some flavors compared to other Asian buffet places. Not sure how fresh the sushi items were but I did notice they had a few sashimi pieces that were cut thick, which is a good thing. There are a variety of food but each time, the portion of new food that is brought out is so little, it makes me believe they are stingy since we are constantly waiting for the food to be refilled. The service wasn't good for us. Other reviewers mentioned their plates were always cleared and taken away for them, but that didn't happen too often for us. On top of that, we even heard the staff singing to themselves instead of working. Personally, I would not come back, I rather drive a little farther to Oakland and pay more for better food and service. read more

This place has been up for long while now, and I jus FINALLY got to check it out! I Loved everything about it! Theres a parking lot, Huge inside the restaurant, PLENTY of food selections and desserts! Waiters always refilling drinks. Extremely reasonable price, for all you can eat!
