    House salad
    Felicia B.

We've been here a few times. This Thursday night was the emptiest I've seen it, likely due to the cold temps. We sat at the regular bar, not the oyster bar, and the service was good. I like that you can order oysters individually. I ordered a fire roasted oyster with garlic, butter, & Parmesan for $3.50 & a Rockefeller one $4. I prefer chargrilled oysters. The roasted one was my least favorite. I swear there was sea water still inside. The Rockefeller 1 wasn't cooked how I expected and had looser toppings, but I preferred it over the former/ I also had the Charleston she crab soup, which I've had before at other restaurants and enjoyed. My husband also agreed it wasn't the best we've had and was, "just ok." I wanted to order the whole snapper, which was very reasonably priced, but had to cancel the order as I was getting full. I ordered the house salad instead. The tea vinaigrette was a nice touch of sweetness to the salad. I had a glass of Riesling to top off my meal. We celebrated my MIL's 90th birthday here a couple years ago so I know what they're capable of. That was also in the restaurant, not in the bar... Come try them for yourself.

My crew and I all ventured out for happy hour/ early dinner, before we had an early flight the next day. I had found O Bar on yelp, always looking for oysters. They did NOT disappoint! Together we tried a bit of everything. Mussels and oysters, of course, the fish taco, hush puppies, shrimp Mac and cheese, and for our seafood adverse friend...a burger. Everything got rave reviews. The oysters on special were James River from Virginia and they were fresh and sweet. The mussels were perfectly prepared and topped with a bit of cheese, which was unexpected but tasty. The service was good and the place was super cute. In a touristy area but off to the side a bit. They have an adjoining full restaurant but the OBar was perfect for us. It was still the topic of conversation the next day, with our burger lover determined to try something outside her comfort zone next time.

Came here a year later and they still have great Happy Hour! They are located right near the market and in walking distance to many other places. Super solid options on their HH menu, I love their peel and eat shrimp so we got a boatload of them! Our first round of drinks came pretty quick and later we ordered a second round when we finished our food. It was about 15 mins and no drinks, so we asked our server to come over and cancel our drinks. She apologized and said she could see they were just finishing it up. (2 beers and 1 glass of sparkling wine) I understand that it was happy hour but we didn't even order cocktails so that was a super long time for just 3 beverages. We ended up just taking them since they finally made it. ‍ We still got charged for all 3 drinks but at that point we were just ready to go. We still had a pretty good time but just some communication on those type of delays would be nice in the future.

We stopped by South Carolina Charleston for one day and was craving some seafood; while the menu selection was fairly simple we wanted to try a variety of options through the state tower. The raw seafood was delicious especially the oysters and shrimp especially, the muscles otherwise were not too desirable. As for the appetizers, we tried the crab soup as well as the fry pimento cheese. We absolutely adored the fry pimento cheese however, the crab soup was a big disappointment. I do not recommend it. overall are very good experience. If you wanna stop by for some local seafood here in Charleston, South Carolina would come again.

I'm in Charleston for a conference and stepped out of the hotel for a walk down Market St and came upon the O Bar! As luck would have it, the have happy hour on Saturday until 6:00! I hand a local beer and an Old Fashioned... the OF was perfect! The St James River oysters are $1.25 during HR and they were tasty! I also had a 1/4 of shrimp. The bar staff was very attentive and engaging. If you in town, definitely stop by!

Nice menu, food and cocktails. Informative staff. Had my first oyster tasting (in over 10years) it was Very good. Some patrons at the bar had a platter of freshly shucked oysters over ice and they were pleased. I had an adult iced tea and I def felt it on the way back to the hotel at 430pm - long day walking I had to lay down for a bit. Go on over and get Shucked !

Smashed 48 oysters cuz I love oysters but the waitress was not chill (we had to lowkey beg her to come to our table) the happy hour was great tho, food came out food jus wish service was better

Interesting seeing other reviews saying they weren't oyster people. That wasn't our experience at all, in fact I would place them as the place that had the best oyster selection. Our waiter was very familiar with the different varieties and recommended which ones were the best for the day. He didn't disappoint! My wife doesn't like oysters so she ordered the muscle appetizer, she really liked the broth they were cooked in but thought the cheese on top was an interesting choice. Had it not been for what we thought was the weird cheese I would probably go with a 5 star. (Perhaps they wanted more salt from cheese...who knows...to each their own!)

I have been wanting to try the O Bar for a couple of weeks and finally got a chance to dine in. It was an off time between lunch and dinner times so the restaurant was very quiet except for a few tables and a few patrons at the bar. I liked the layout of OBAR, a narrow interior with small amount of tables spaced nicely on one side and the large bar area running almost the length of the room was on the other side. I am always on the lookout for a refreshing beet salad and ordered it here with an addition of grilled salmon. The citrus vinaigrette went wonderfully with this salad as well. The seafood and oysters were fresh and while you are always taking a chance with how the salmon is grilled, this time it was done perfectly! Will return to the O Bar which is part of the Charleston Crabhouse family with locations downtown, on James Island and in Mt Pleasant.

I like this place. I have just moved to Charleston and seemed to find myself here on 3 different occasions. I am indeed a bar person so I found a place to sit at the end of the bar, and the waitress remembered me from last time. Major points. Every time the guys shucking the oysters have been friendly and ready to chat while opening those little pieces of greatness from the sea. More points! Happy hour $1 oysters have been the James River, not the things from the gulf, which still have that nice oily aftertaste from Deepwater Horizon. They do have other oysters from Mass, SC, and Canada. Do not neglect to order the hushpuppies that come with a wonderful brown-sugar-pecan- butter! I always seem to find a good little place anywhere I live that is my go to place AND I am welcome while wearing shorts and flip-flops! This is probably going to be my place.

Boy oh boy this place! We went for happy hour and got the oysters and goat cheese salad and she crab. I think I was in heaven! The vibe is chill and we sat at the bar! Great happy hour!

A group of about 8 of us went out for drinks Saturday (5/2/26). We were having a great time (respectful, quiet, not causing a problem). Last call hit at 1:30 so we decided one more drink before we went our ways home. 10 mins later we're were asked to leave the courtyard and head inside - not a problem. We will finish our drinks inside. 5 minutes after that, we were asked to take our last sips and leave. 15 mins before the posted closing time. Again, we weren't causing a problem, weren't loud, weren't disruptive. This was a group of 8, most of us well into our 40s (or older). But they were telling all guests to leave at 1:45a?? Just after we bought drinks? The posted hours say they close at 2a. Not 1:45a. Most of us left half finished drinks. The large bouncer was nice enough, the tiny one in a hoodie with glasses was totally unprofessional. So beware. The Blind Tiger has what it takes to remain a Charleston institution. Their staff, might ruin that chance.

Honestly, it was so difficult to choose what drink to get because I wanted to get everything on the menu. The bartenders were so attentive and talented - their implementation of each cocktail was even better than the menu descriptions. Not only were the drinks delicious but also beautifully presented. You can tell the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. The surprise star of the night, though, was the grilled cheese. Calling it a grilled cheese almost feels unfair because this thing was next-level. Sometimes the simplest thing on a menu ends up stealing the show. The atmosphere strikes that perfect Charleston balance of classy, cozy, and effortlessly cool. Great service, great drinks, and one of the most memorable grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. If you're in Charleston and appreciate a serious cocktail program, The Gin Joint is a must-visit. Also, this place is huge so they were able to accommodate my friend's post-wedding party (about 20 people) at the last minute and we had a blast. Everywhere else we tried to go either didn't have the space for us or were closing so it totally made our night! The dining room is beautiful, and the ambiance is excellent. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality level or price point of the restaurant. When entrées range from $65-$70 for fish, $80+ for steaks, and side dishes approach $14 or more, guests reasonably expect an elevated and attentive dining experience. Throughout the evening, our server seemed rushed and disengaged. Despite our efforts to be friendly and conversational, interactions felt brief and transactional. A drink order was delivered incorrectly, and rather than improving as the meal progressed, the service became increasingly impersonal. We never felt particularly welcomed or valued as guests. A special night out with a $300-$400 check should feel memorable for the right reasons. While the food and atmosphere were good, the overall experience fell short of what we have come to expect from restaurants operating in this category and at this price level. We are glad we gave it a try, but in the future we'll likely choose other Charleston-area restaurants that deliver a more polished and hospitality-focused experience when entertaining family and friends from out of town.
