My wife and I have been customers for the last 9 years. This review is not about one particular experience but rather why we have been loyal customers over this period. We love the fact that everything is from scratch, from the salad dressings to the desserts. The vegetables are always fresh and the entrees are creatively and expertly prepared. In addition to the main menu, there is a special daily menu which gives you additional choices for salads, soups, pastas, seafood and other items. What a pleasant surprise to come across in the Texas Hill Country! Flavorful fresh and healthy options but also a really good chicken fried steak. In particular though they make a super upscale burger that in and of itself should put them on the map. I live in Austin but had lunch there with folks I was working with in the area. Really glad we chose O'Brien's for lunch and would return when back in the area. Only reason for four out of five stars is the service is friendly and comfortable but a bit slow for lunch. We needed to be in and out a bit faster than just over an hour to not give too much time in the day for the experience but that's looking for something to pick at! read more

We love O'Brien's! Everything is delicious! Favorites are the macaroni and cheese, hamburger steak, and chicken fried chicken. Whether you want dessert or not, you need to try the vanilla gooey cake, with cinnamon ice cream - it will change your life. We moved away from the area 6 months ago and I've literally had dreams about that dessert. Tip - if you're going on a weekend night, make a reservation. It's a small place in a rural area, but sometimes gets really crowded so it's better to be safe (and well-fed!) than sorry. read more

Live down the road from O`Briens. It is a nice spot for a very tasty lunch or dinner. The menu runs from burgers to Prime Rib, Tim, the owner is also the chef & can whip up some pretty fancy dishes on special occasions. They also have live music on weekends. They charged us for the sides that were included with the meal!!!! We arrived at 7pm on Friday, we waited 20 minutes for waters. The waitress was good and I don't blame her at all. We then waited an hour for 2 steaks, one medium ($40) and the other rare($25), once they showed up we cut in to them to find they were well done and cold. We talked to the waitress and manager and they offered to recook them. 20 minutes later the steaks came out again, this time mine was still well done(supposed to be rare) and my wife's was more well done than before. The manager checked on us and we told them that we would just like the bill for the drinks we ordered and they said okay, offering us a free dessert. Upon getting the bill, THEY HAD CHARGED US $11 FOR THE SALAD AND BRUSSEL SPROUTS THAT CAME WITH THE STEAKS! When asked about it, they said that they charged us for what we ate! Food is over-priced! Fish was over-cooked, meat loaf fair but the tomato sauce was weird. Had steak before that I couldn't eat. Tried several times and never had a great meal yet. We are done with this place. read more

We have been eating at O'Brien's Restaurant for many years now. The food and service is always excellent! The owner's are almost always there and typically say "hello and thank you". Check their calendar for entertainment on the patio and make an early reservation because they fill up fast! Highly recommend!! read more

My wife and I live locally and eat here about once a month for the past 2 years. Excellent food, cooked by the owner/chef. Wait staff can get overwhelmed at times, but normally the service is excellent. Just a tad on the expensive side, but the decor, service and most of all the food is well worth it. They also have wine night specials with discounted bottles from excellent vineyards. Only wish they were open for breakfast on Sunday! read more

My wife and friend both got the fish, and both came out cold, they sent it back, and it was microwaved. The son of the owner came over to our table, where we offered to pay for another meal, And that we were still really hungry, he was clearly high on something, and could not even complete A full sentence. We were offered "peanut butter with real gold sprinkles" instead of the steaks we asked for as another meal. We told him we were happy to pay for the steaks, to which he mentioned to us that he cooked for "the queen of England", this guy was really messed up!! Finally got the fish taken back, and the steaks were brought out, which were over cooked!! The steaks did have a great flavor, we asked to speak to the owner of the restaurant, due to the unprofessionalism of the Manager. The owner screamed so loud, that the table behind us began to heckle us. We mentioned that the dish was cold, and that his son was unable to complete his train of thought, to which he continued to scream that we had cost him over $100 dollars. I worked in the service industry for years, and currently deal with many restaurants on a daily basis as a sales consultant. I have NEVER been more offended at the lack of professionalism, customer service, and at this point my wife and friend were very upset. The bill was $340, and a total waste money, these people need a class in etiquette, we will NEVER EVER eat at this "low class" restaurant again! read more

We have been coming to O'Briens for 7 years....We live in Spring Branch and split our time between Boerne and New Braunfels. We try to go to O'Briens at least once a week! The food is consistantly delicious and the servers and staff are as top notch as they come. We have never been rushed and have always enjoyed a very relaxing hill country experience each and every time....EVERYTHING that owner/chef Tim prepares is amazing. He has such a knack for creating dishes that you will come back for time and time again. Try everything!!! The fish is always so fresh and perfectly prepared. Before my family moved out of state we would go to O'Briens atleast once a week and we were never disappointed. They have fabulous food, there is a wide selection and something for everyone. My personal favorite are the steaks with boneless quail, they are cooked to perfection! Another favorite is their chicken fried chicken, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The wedge salad is wonderful and so is their macaroni and cheese. The service is can be a tad slow when they are super busy, but the friendliness of the servers and the quality of the food more than makes up for it. If you are regular customers, they treat you like family. My parents used to order something to go for me when they went alone and I would always find a little something extra along with my order. I ordered their Thanksgiving dinner to go and it was perfect, I felt like I was eating my mom's, which is one of the highest compliments that I can give! If you want great service and great food, definitely give O'Briens a try! read more

O'Brien's in Bergheim Texas is 1st Class in every way! Their staff is attentive and friendly, the dining room is warm and welcoming, and their menu is FABULOUS! If you visit when they have live entertainment, you are in for a great time! My husband and I visited on Valentine's Day, 2017, and had an outstanding gourmet meal, while listening to beautiful music. I've tried this place multiple times over the past 10 years. Grossly disappointed every time. Overpriced, poor service, and food not stellar. Recently thought I would give it another go. I sat at the bar. Two other people at bar when I sat down. Ordered salad and chicken fried steak. Also order food to go. Took over 30 minutes to get dinner salad. After another 20 minutes steak had not come out. I flagged the bartender down (he just has been ignoring me) and inquires about the order. After another 5 minutes someone brought out the food. It was not chicken fried steak but chicken. Very greasy. I grabbed a waitress to let her know it was not correct. She offered to bring correct order. I declined. I asked for to go order. She said did not have record of to go order. I said forget it. I asked for check. I was charged for the steak, to go order, tea (that I had to ask for refill everytime) and salad. I pointed out that I was being charged for my non-existent to go order. I asked kindly if they could remove the food I did not receive. I ended up paying 10 dollars for dinner salad and tea. read more

Stopped by on Friday night at 7:15. My wife goes in and asks how long the wait is. Hostess says "we are full". She asks again. "We are full". No idea what happens if someone finished their meal and leaves. Still full I guess. This was my first attempt to go there. Screw them. Won't be back. Never in my life have I just been told were full almost 2 hours before close. Boerne restaurants have the worst service of any city I've lived in, bar none. I have a list of them I won't go to now. O'Brien's - a bit Oh Brother why bother. Okay so we're still new to the area. We are finding places to dine based on recommendations, reviews and sometimes just driving in the car until something looks good. This place is not far from us down the road and had heard some good things about the place. Looked it up on the internet, saw they won an award in 2006 and decided to give it a try. Maybe it was fantastic in 2006- not in July 2008 however. Outside did not look promising, inside however was very nice & comfortable though. Pretty neat, unique decor which looked promising and made me excited to see the menu which I had memorized by the time we were seated. Our wait was ridiculous and the owners (who proudly post their photo on website) were parked at a table just lingering with some folks while diners were waiting for a table. (Now don't get me wrong- it should be a perk of owning the place to dine there but they were still in the same spot holding court when we left.) On to food - Wow... my soup had more salt than my margarita on the rocks. Crab cakes were more cake (bread) than crab and our NY strip was sent back twice to get medium rare one (hmmmm.... isn't that the most popular way to order good steak? Should have that down, don't you think?). Really disappointed by the time we were asked if we wanted dessert so did not even try one. Like I said at the start - don't bother. read more

The entertainment of the Almost Patsy Cline Band playing throughout dinner was a bonus of great proportions. This is the best genuine Texas Hill Country restaurant and bar I've been to in over 40 years. The food is exceptional (try the Wedge), the wine list is very good, service is 2nd to none, and the prices are quite reasonable. The setting is pure Hill Country with a view of the Twin Sisters off the back patio, and the best ambiance anywhere. The option to eat inside or on the Texas sized, shaded patio creates great flexibility. The icing on the cake are the fun loving and gracious hosts/ owners, Tim & Becky O'Brien, who will greet every patron on any given nite. Add to that some of the best entertainment currently available in the Hill Country ('Two Tons of Steel' and 'Almost Patsy Cline' for instance) every couple of weeks, and you can't go wrong at OBriens. read more

My husband and I went out for a quiet dinner at a good restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Our evening was ruined by a noisy crowd of 60 people taking up most of the space in the restaurant. You had to fight your way through to the rest room. The more they drank the noisier they got. I think it was very unfair of the restaurant to ruin dinner for the few tables that were not with this party but there again they were the ones spending all the money on booze. I suppose the food was good but we ate it to quickly to really enjoy as we just wanted to get out of there. We won't be going back there again. read more

This restaurant is close to our house so we thought we would give it a try. The prime rib was good and the portions were generous.

The O'Brien's are a True Class Act. My friend received orders and stopped by my house the night before leaving for the west coast with his girlfriend and asked if there was any place to go eat nearby and as usual the first place that came to mind as always was O'Brien's. When we approached the door and reached for the handle it was locked and it was at this point we realized that it was 9:03 and they closed at 9:00, disappointed we started to discus what to do next as the door swung open and Mr. O'Brien invited us in with open arms and set us up with a table for dinner without delay. I thanked Mr. O'Brien and Expressed my Appreciation and explained the reason we were out to dinner as we were being seated. He thanked us for our service with a (much appreciated) heart felt hand shake. Wow, I didn't think that kind of thing existed anymore in this world, keeping a kitchen open for 1 table!! As always the food and service was excellent!! To our surprise and completely not necessary we received our check and it was discounted. The service didn't end there as one of the staff members ran out to the parking lot to give me the food I had wrapped up and would have been truly disappointed if I forgot. So if your looking for a Great Place in the hill country to eat with a true family atmosphere you won't be disappointed at O'Brien's. read more

With a reservation for 11 for a Birthday, you'd expect to be seated with an adequate waiter. This last visit to O'Brien's was not a good experience because the waitress we had was terrible. She was nice enough, she just couldn't seem to get it together. It started to go downhill when we ordered appetizers (4 for the table) & she forgot 1 & even asked, "you ordered that"? Then, she had problems multitasking getting water, tea, & wine. The food was fantastic, however she couldn't tell the difference between the filet & a rib-eye when she gave the wrong steak to the Birthday boy. He ended up just keeping the wrong steak. She also got my side item wrong (there's only 1 per meal), then acted like I made the mistake ordering a twice baked potato. We had no offer for refills of our coffee w/dessert (again wonderful food). Then it took her approximately 1 hour to get our checks. Probably our fault for having each couple pay with separate checks, but the poor girl couldn't remember what everyone had (don't you usually write those things down)? So, when the checks finally came, of course there were problems. We ended up with a $91 tab for the 2 of us, yet somehow when she rang up our credit card she charged it for $131. The tip was already included so that didn't account for the discrepancy. We were so fed up at that point we just left, but not before I got to tell the owner Tim O'Brien about the service & tell her about the discrepancy & that I would be back, but the next time was it if I got service at that level again. Too bad that the owner didn't offer to do something to compensate for the lack of service. He had plenty of time after I told him originally (he had visited our table an hour before our last conversation on my way out the door). The entire dining experience took 4 hours. YES, 4, & no it was not a 5 course meal. Appetizers, food, dessert & coffee. Put all this into context of being her ONLY table (At least I didn't see her go to any other table). She simply disappeared into the kitchen all the time. Tim, the owner did try to take some of the blame off of her by telling me that the kitchen was off tonight too, but I didn't see that since all the food & steaks were cooked to perfection. Maybe that was the case, just wish the waitress would've said something like, the food is taking so long because .... Instead, it took forever & I'm guessing it's because she couldn't multitask putting in an appetizer order, time the dinner order, while still making sure the drinks are refilled. If this were our first visit, there is no way we would go back. Since we've been there several times & the food is so good, we'll risk a visit 1 more time, but come on Tim, treat your repeat customer's a little better than an apology when you have the chance! read more
