Fun stop just south of downtown Clearwater. The bartenders are fun and personable. The wings, sandwiches, and onion soup are excellent! The Shepherds Pie is their signature and is supposed to be great although I've never had it. The place is usually pretty busy during the lunch rush with hospital patrons and locals but the dining space is large enough to accommodate without too much wait if at all. There is a lot of onsite parking and they also have an outdoor bar and patio area that is open when it's not too hot outside. And of course, their St. Patrick's Day parties are legendary! read more

This is a first rate tavern. Tonight the kitchen dropped the Ball!!. The kitchen has a tendency not to follow the server's instructions. It has happened in the past. They always try to make it right. It's not the same after the fact. I came in for a quality experience, my servers Allison and Ali are top notch. Ordered soup, salad and a half rack of ribs. Request each serving to arrive separately as to enjoy each segment. Received the soup, awesome! I am not even half thru with the soup and my salad and ribs arrive. Stopped in for lunch after having driven past O'Keefe's quite a few times. Wife had lobster bisque, I had French onion soup and we split a pastrami with Swiss with onion straws. She liked the lobster bisque, I tasted it but didn't care for it. Onion soup was just ok. As far as the pastrami, it was oddly tasteless. On the other hand , the onion straws were light and tasty. The food was excellent! My boyfriend got the Chicken Pub and I got the Shepard Pie. We also both got the potato skins. For the price, the portions are really big so I have lunch the next day. My sister and I actually "stumbled onto" O'Keefe's Tavern... first we tried a restaurant near the beach, server went to get us water and never came back so we walked. Then we were going to try a pizza joint right near O'Keefe's but before we turned in, we spotted this Tavern and decided to give it a try instead. We came in around 8pm on a Saturday night and it was DEAD here. (Kind of nice to get away from the busy beach crowd). O'Keefe's is an Irish Pub... but the menu is all over the place. It's quite extensive and has enough options to suit everyone's taste... But because the menu is SO BIG, we had a hard time deciding. The waitress came over a few times before we actually knew what we wanted. I went with the French Onion Soup and a side salad. My sister had the chicken souvlaki with a side salad. My soup was good BUT I didn't think there was enough ooey gooey melted cheese on it. I love when you get to peel all that melted, crispy cheese off the sides of the crock. Nonetheless, the soup was really good but lacking in the cheese. The salad was average. My sister LOVED her chicken souvlaki. She said she had never had it warm in the crispy wrap like it's served here. Our server was nice. It's kind of ironic that she came over a number of times when we weren't ready but when we were ready to order, it was a bit of a wait for her to come back. Prices were fairly reasonable. We had shepherds pie, the French burger, and mushroom steak. The shepherds pie was so savory with creamy potatoes, lots Of meat, and they put peas in it with luscious gravy. I haven't had shepherds pie in a long time and I siphoned this meal how wonderful. My granddaughter had the French burger with fries and no complaints from her and she is the pickiest eater I know. The French burger had bacon on it. She said it was awesome including the fries which she usually leaves on the plate, so I'm guessing they were crispy. My husband had the beef and he said it was well seasoned and made medium exactly how he asked. The mushrooms were abundant and he said they were delicious and savory not salty like some places make this dish. Garlic bread very buttery. We also had bread pudding which was sweet and delicious, warm spices, loaded with raisins. The only thing I wanted Was much more bourbon sauce!!! This is the only way I drink. I went to Okeef's today with a friend after not going in years, and I'm really glad I did! I have always loved the restaurant itself because I am of Irish heritage myself. I normally go for the shepherds pie as it's so tasty, but I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich instead. My friend ordered the blackened chicken sandwich. We both stated how good our sandwiches were. This grilled chicken sandwich was one of the best I've ever had! It was so flavorful and yummy. Also, our server was attentive and respectful. I think his name was Brandon. Context: So this isn't something recent, rather this is something that has happened to me three times and am only writing this review as a forewarning for all coming here at lunch. A friend/ coworker was telling me about their experience and thought it was about time to share mine. Body: To begin, O'Keefe's food isn't terrible - it's a pub and it has pub food so it's not the best, but not terrible; don't get caught up by that. Drinks, as an Irish Pub/ Tavern, are generally what I'd hope would be stellar when I came here. Drinks aren't half bad, sometimes a certain bartender has lied about changing kegs when clearly the taste speaks for itself - over flowing with foam, has a plastic dry taste, flavor is missing (ask for Guinness and then go try one from the store; a cold glass can't hide you haven't changed it in a week O'Keefe's staff person). So yeah, I'm riding on the staff a bit - what's wrong with them? Nothing, except one person. Have you ever had that aunt/ uncle that just doesn't seem to get the message and is stubborn as a rock, this person has worked here for years (from what I understand) and has the attitude of a mountain goat - "Piss off, this is my territory." This woman, by the way, refuses to be wrong. Taps on the bar and menu list don't match "guess you can't read stupid," got a question about a lunch item "it says it right there honey, what don't you understand about that it's in English," maybe you have a question about the specials when the chalk board sign out front says differently "it's never said, we don't serve that." Never had a problem with other staff or management, but this woman. Older, brown hair, you'd think she'd be from up north by her tone. If she - quote verbatim "I don't think you'll tip me well," that means you're screwed as she's the only one working at lunch - you won't be served, she'll hold back on giving you the check, food will sit up on the bar getting cold, she'll make eye contact with you roll her eyes and walk over to another table for a conversation, she'll pretend to clean tables and make noises, and guess what you only have an hour or so for lunch well call your boss and tell them you'll be late as once I gave her my card - she disappeared. Asked manager where she went, left the card behind the bar and "guess she went out back for a smoke, did she cash you out, did you have a tab open" per manager ---- so yeah fun times. Conclusion: I've been to O'Keefe's three times for lunch: by myself on a weekend, and twice on weekdays. If you see this woman at lunch, 2 options: 1.) leave as you have a chance to have a bad experience in a decent pub or 2.) hope you have a person of management who is on staff to help get served. Bar food is 3 out of 5 (yak burger is top notch though), Drinks are hit or miss as I'm a beer person 2 out of 5. Customer service has been friendly and nice by management and staff alike - except by one aforementioned woman. TL;DR - don't come here at lunch, hopefully dinner service is better. Stay away from older an woman working at lunch time as she's had news. 3 out 5 Stars. read more

I really hope my friend, who recommended we go here, does not read this. This is the definition of mediocre. Once you get past the cutesy Irish decorations and actually get to the food, you will be disappointed. I ordered corned beef and cabbage. I did not have the heart to send it back, but it was totally gross. The meat was sliced off some hunk of something, 1/8' thick, and literally like shoe leather. Just hideous. Look up pictures on google of juicy, colorful corned beef. This was not it. The cabbage was a head they just whacked in half and barely cooked. It even still had the root attached. I mean, just gross gross gross. Potatoes and carrots were ok, tough to ruin those. My friend had loaded potato skins, and those were tasty. The place is comfy, and has nice Irish décor, as expected. Staff very pleasant. For goodness sake, put a list of the beers on tap in the menu. Had to ask the waitress, and she really had no clue. Read off a few and said "there is a list somewhere". Gave up and just ordered something I liked, but no unusual or local beers. Disappointing. I really should have taken a photo of the corned beef, as I would like to know what it really was. I don't live near here, so I won't go back to see if there is anything better. I recommend you stay away, unless you know there is something on the menu that is made properly. I hear the fish and chips are good, but I don't eat fried stuff often. Like many restaurants in FL, people give way too many stars for just average food. 3 stars is good for average. Took my partner to O'Keefe's tonight with high expectations. When he was having emergency surgery at the nearby hospital I stumbled upon this place and had a great meal (the Reuben), great beer and great service. Unfortunately tonight we were very disappointed. Once seated we were told our server would be Matt. We were reviewing the menu and Matt approached our table. Great smile, friendly, talkative - off to a good start. I ordered a beer on draft and my partner had sweetened ice tea. It took a bit but the drinks finally came - we were ready to order. We ordered the Irish puffs as an appetizer and were really looking forward to trying these. My partner ordered the Philly Steak which comes with Au Jus - he asked if the sandwich had Mayo on it and Matt said no but that he would bring some on the side. I was a bit undecided but Matt eventually help me pick the fish and chips - I'm from Maine so looking forward to some good fried haddock. Order placed and we turn to our beverages - I go to take a drink of my beer - Stella - and it tastes funky to me - kind of pickled. We were near the bar so I went up to the two bar tenders and they both agreed it smelled funky. They immediately rinsed a clean glass and poured a new beer - much better - problem solved. My partner went to try his ice tea and that tasted strange and the cup had an order. When Matt came back he ordered a soda and that was better. We're wondering if the glasses had been dirty glass. But problem solved. We watched Matt wait on other tables - again making connections and jovial - a lot talking. We were looking forward to trying our Irish puffs. Finally a food runner brought our 2 meals and no Irish Puffs. I mentioned this to her and she said she'd check - she came back and said that order was never put in. She asked if we wanted them but at that time it was too late as it did take awhile for the food to come out. Matt did come to the table and apologized and took ownership for the error but I still couldn't figure how this happened as he did write everything down on the same ticket. Oh well. We were hungry and ready to eat. The fish and chips: huge piece of haddock lightly breaded and hot - very good and the tarter sauce wasn't bad. Steak fries were ok - a little soggy - a frozen product but I like mine more crispy. The coleslaw was creamy and had a good flavor - needed salt which improved it. Unfortunately the ketchup was watery and runny even though in a Heinz bottle. My partner's steak sandwich was good unfortunately he didn't get Mayo on the side and Matt really didn't do frequent table check to see if everything ok, but spent a lot of time talking to some tables. We finished and were ready to leave - I did tell Matt he needed to do a little less talking and focus more on getting the order right and doing more check-ins on the table. I stated you can be really friendly but if you don't perform in the end but getting food orders correct and doing check-ins that's what determines the tip. He's been there for 4 months so he should have this down. He did say it was a busier day than normal and he had more tables than usual which I can understand as I was a server in college. I gave him my card and when he can back with the receipt he didn't have a pen on him and had to go back to get one - so a little discombobulated. With that said - did I tip? Absolutely - over 20% as it is tough work and we all have rough days and Matt was good in taking constructive criticism. Will we rerun? Yes - I want the experience I first had that time by myself when my partner was having emergency surgery. The server gave great service and had empathy for what I was going through that night. So we'll try it one more time - I'm hoping to try the Irish Puffs and a lot of their meals look great (Shepherds Pie, the Reuben is great, Corn Beef and Cabbage - just a lot of great options.) For service - would I give Matt another try? I would - I'd be a bit skeptical - but I'd let him know it was his second chance - after all everyone deserves another chance. So the moral of this story is that while we all strive to have great days and be great servants, inconsistencies do happen and we have small failures. But we learn from those and pick ourselves up and focus on improvement. For those on the receiving end of those not so stellar days - be patient and understanding and don't let the experience prevent you from giving it another try. read more

I would like to write a review to tell you what an Excellent barmaid Allison is at Okeefes Restaurant. I go there when she is working on Wednesday and Friday and Saturday nites. Because she always keeps a clean bar and I know I will always get friendly and amazing service. She has an awesome demeanor and is very knowledgeable about the menu and any specials. She is constantly working with the takeouts and helping with cleaning off tables and washing glasses. Her upbeat attitude and friendly service is what keeps me coming back when she is bartending.
