I saw a Facebook food group's post featuring O Lien and the pictures looked great so I decided to check it out. Well, I actually preferred the original Pho 79 (?) where this space used to be. There's nothing wrong with O Lien's food, they just look better on photos than they tasted. The Banh Xeo came out golden in color just like how I craved any pancakes. But boy it is fried so cripsy hard I was afraid of my crown coming off! I think what it is is rice crepe that they brushed egg liquid on and then deep fried, but because the rice crepe is not a flaky product to begin with, it just became crispy cardboard. Bun Bo Hue was fine, nothing bad, nothing too outstanding, just average. Can't complain about service. I am curious about the "stage" looking thing with neon lights, wonder if they have karaoke bar here. No matter, the karaoke alone won't make this my destination. read more

We apparently caught this restaurant on a bad day. Service was extremely slow. It took our limeade 30 minutes to arrive after we ordered it, and after we had received a portion of our food. The two waiters seemed totally overwhelmed by the large crowd on a Monday at lunch. Also, the restaurant was a mess with multiple tables littered with dirty dishes. We ordered four dishes, one of which wasn't delivered for an hour until we asked what happened to it. That one was the Nem Lui Hue, which turned out to be our favorite of the things we ordered. I came here for the first time to try their Beef Rib and Brisket Pho. It was delicious! You can split this into two meals since the portion was large and they meant it! Really liked this Vietnamese establishment when they first opened, but went here recently and something just was not right. Ordered bun bo hue both times, but this last time, the meat smelled and tasted old. Also ordered eggrolls and they weren't the ones we expected as they had the clear wrap. I'm a big fan of this Vietnamese restaurant! My friend and I are both Vietnamese and just moved to Denver from Orange County, CA so our standards for Vietnamese food are really high and we've been hesitant about trying it here. I was recommended this place by so many people though so I had to come try it. I specifically came for the bun Bo hue and it did not disappoint! Although the $20 price tag is steep, the bowl was HUGE. The flavor of the broth was strong which was really good. I only wished the lemongrass flavor was stronger. Everything I tried in the banh hue combination plate was super yummy! I loved the texture of the banh it ram. The server was also super nice and accommodating. The ambience of the restaurant was really fun. All of the patrons here were older Vietnamese people so I knew it was going to be good when I walked in. First timer at O Lien kitchen. Have heard of this place and was recommended by families. This place did not disappoint. The staff was super friendly. The place was not overcrowded, but yet slightly busy. Love the large wall of TV, I get to watch my team play while eating dinner. We ordered some appetizers and it came out very quickly. Their Bun boh hue did not disappoint me, by far the best I have here in Denver. I ordered the combination bun boh hue and holy crap. It was so much meat. Came to Denver for a short visit and came here be recommendation of a local. Hue or central VN food is my favorite so I had to try the banh beo, banh bot loc, and other leaf wrapped foods. So good! I haven't had these foods in years (moved away from Southern California two decades ago) and have been craving it. Service was great! I am glad they got to move into a bigger place thats high traffic because its the most authentic Hue and reasonably priced restaurant :) Bun Bo Hue (Spicy lemongrass beef noodles): The broth is well balanced, meat is tender, all the right vegetables with the dish, and the chili oil is the best! (Not too spicy for those with low tolerance but you can always add more spice) Ban Xeo Hue Style (Viet Crepe): Crispy, a lot of filling, fresh vegetables, and good fish sauce! All of the Banhs Nam, Loc, Beo: freshly made, right amount of filling and seasoned perfectly, texture is perfectly chewy or soft. Com SUONG (Rice plate with grilled meat): Meat is well seasoned and grilled, rice is good, sides are fresh and balanced. Banh Canh Cua("Udon" shrimp and crab noodles): The broth and noodles are on point! This is also the only place that makes this dish right. I just love this place so much. I don't like pho at restaurants but I love it here. Dare I say it's as close to home made as you will get. The bun Bo hue is outstanding as well. Service was eh too i was without water for at least 10-15 minutes and had to ask for a refill. They charged me gratuity on a party of 4 so they counted the babies as adults then when i said oh so you charged the babies as adults because gratuity is for 5+ the guy said oh well you came in 5 minutes after 8? They close at 830 but we actually got there at 750. Bad service and close to bland food and workers trying to make extra money by adding gratuity is a 0 star in my books. read more

If you have ever been to the old spot that was inside the Viet Hoa grocery store, I am happy to tell you she has moved and opened a restaurant. They have taken over the old pho restaurant next to crawling crab, don't be confused because they never took the pho sign down yet. I believe they have been open for a couple weeks now. The lady that open this place use to cater for big parties, and she still does- so you can def do cratering still. This is my spot for my favorite Vietnamese dish, bun Bo hue. We came around I heard by 2/3ish and they weren't too busy for us to wait. The service isn't the best, but it was expected. His English wasn't the best but he understood enough to get what we needed As for the food. Banh bo loc comes naked or wrapped in banana leaf (the green wrapping) - not edible. This is always a great app. But sad to say when it came out it didn't come out hot, it was warm like it was sitting out sadly. And I wish they offered this in a smaller portion, instead of just 15 pieces cause we we're definitely full when it came time for the entree. Another complaint was the fish sauce, I had to add more limes and chilis to make it a better dipping sauce. Not the best- very bland. I also use this sauce to dip my the meat into from the entree. For the main event, if you are adventurous I would recommend trying the bun Bo hue- one of the best in Denver. I say adventurous because there is curated pigs blood and pigs feet in there. But they also offered the beef rib which was huge and so tender. It's hard to find good place that specializes on this dish. It comes with lime, chili peppers, bean sprouts, banana leaves, lettuce/cabbage. This place didn't have the shrimp paste on the side like they did the last place I added everything in and try to get as much veggies as I can! The broth is a spicy base, which is why I love it. It's very flavorful. the chili oil that is offer on the table isn't very spicy, but it had good flavors to add in. The entree came in metal bowls, which kept it hotter for longer, great investment! Was pretty excited to check this place out after seeing a good amount of glowing posts about it on Facebook. The pics of the food looked great. Also, there are very few, if any options for Hue cuisine in Denver. Got a group of friends together to go on Saturday, Oct. 21 The restaurant was half full, so we got sat right away, which was a very nice surprise given we were a party of six on a Saturday in Denver. That's when things went down hill. Didn't get our water or menus for 20 minutes. When they did drop off the water they only dropped off four glasses for a party of six. Maybe we were supposed to share? Anyway, I asked one of the other waiters when he brought water to another table if he could grab us two more glasses, he smiled and said, "I don't work here." Cool! After 30 minutes we were finally able to order food in a half full restaurant. We also asked for those elusive glasses of water. The waiter said, "I'll bring them right out." Twenty minutes later he brought out the water, but no appetizers. At one point I saw Mr. "I Don't Work Here" bring out food for a table of five that came in after us. After waiting another 30 minutes for food we asked our waiter, who apparently did work there, how much longer it was going to take. He replied "45 minutes." Now, at this point we should have left, but the food coming out looked great, and we wanted support a small business. Around 30 minutes Mr. "I Don't Work Here" brought out food for a table of four women and then sat and flirted with them. I pulled aside our waiter. We had at that point no water refills and no appetizers. I asked how long it was going to be. He said, "let me check with the kitchen." Came back and said another hour. We got up and walked out. Walked down the street to Pho Duy and got served drinks and a smorgasbord of food in 20 minutes by people who actually wanted our business and "worked there." Was a very welcome change. read more
