They Took My Money, That's About It I purchased brake pads online, received a confirmation number, an invoice, pickup instructions, and was charged $66.44. The money was removed from my account. I have the receipt. I have the barcode. I have the order number. I even have the return instructions listed at the bottom. Turns out I didn't need the brake pads anymore. No problem, right? I figured I'd simply pick them up and immediately return them. Wrong. When I went to the store, the assistant manager refused to give me the part. He said the order was "processing" and "on hold" and then proceeded to say that we never bought it -- despite me showing the confirmation number, invoice, barcode, and proof that the money was already taken from my bank account. His response? "Yeah, that doesn't mean anything. You need to speak to a store manager." Professional Money Collectors, Amateur Problem Solvers I'm sorry... what? Since when does picking up and returning an item require a STORE MANAGER? What kind of business model makes a basic pickup and return so complicated that management needs to be summoned like we're authorizing a merger? And the best part? It was the ASSISTANT MANAGER giving us a hard time. So let me get this straight: You took my money. You confirmed my order. You sent pickup instructions. But now I can't get the item, and I also can't return it -- unless the store manager personally blesses the transaction? Should I bring the CEO next time? Do y'all need my Social Security number too? Should I file paperwork with the federal government? Get a presidential pardon before I'm allowed to process a refund? At this point we paid for brake pads we weren't allowed to receive and weren't allowed to return. That's not a "processing delay." That's absurd. If an assistant manager cannot handle a basic pickup and return with clear documentation and payment confirmation, that raises serious questions about competency and training. We walked out without the part and without our money. That's not customer service -- that's a circus. Fix your systems. Train your staff. And maybe empower your management to process a simple transaction without requiring an executive summit. Unbelievable. The wipers on my car were getting worse and it looked like it was going to be raining for the next 3 days so I stopped by to get the wipers replaced. I looked up which ones I should get on my phone but didn't realize I needed two until, George, the assistant manager helped me out. He left the counter to help me pick out some budget-friendlier wipers than the ones I picked out. Better yet, he offered to replace the wipers for IN THE RAIN! He said it was a free service that came with the wipers. Sweet! It didn't take too long but even when I offered George a tip, he refused. What a class act! I had another 5-star experience at O'Rielly Auto Parts--this time at the San Leandro location. Back in 2018 a man named Glen helped me choose wiper blades at the Castro Valley O'Rielly Auto Parts. I never forgot how cool that was to not only have help finding the correct set, but also getting help installing them too. I happened to be in San Leandro and since a storm is coming in a few days it was high time for new blades. A man named Henry was there to greet me as soon as I walked in the door. He was kind, friendly, and incredibly helpful as he selected new Bosch wiper blades for my Mazda Miata. Turns out Henry trained Glen way back in the day so it makes sense I'd get the same warm, concierge-level care. Since I just had a medical procedure on my right hand, Henry was happy to put the new blades on my car. It was a wonderful experience. The store is clean, well stocked, and in neat order. They really need self checkout for customers who are only purchasing off the shelf products. I was in line for 15 minutes waiting to check out with the items I already needed in my hand. I came to the San Leandro O'Reilly Auto Parts to ask if they could replace a busted headlight bulb on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. An employee stepped outside, looked at the car, and said he needed to check with the manager. I waited about 25 minutes with no update. When I went back in and politely asked the manager if they could do it, he raised his voice and said they don't change bulbs if it's "not conventional." This policy was never mentioned at the start, and when I asked why he was speaking to me that way, he told me that if I didn't like it, I should leave. I left without help, feeling disrespected. Basic courtesy, clear communication about policies, and timely updates are the minimum I expect anywhere--especially from a store I rely on for parts and advice. Tried to buy RainX wiper blades on a rainy day. On the outside of the store they offered free installation with specific brands so I purchased so. The worker there Ricky tried to install but didnt know how. He asked to manually turn the wipers half way by turning engine off, tried doing that but my car's automatic so it wouldn't stay as he wanted it to. Told him my brother was able to change my wiper blades without having to do that. He said he's not able to then he says he's getting busy so take it somewhere else or get a refund. Yet I had to return the bought item and go to O'reilly's auto part, I was able to confirm the fuse was the only reason obd wasn't working and had my car scanned. UPDATE So two days ago I got an email saying that yelp deleted my review because the merchant requested it, and because it was too harsh. Yelp, what a joke, seriously. I got to say, worse customer service by someone in management. I found out this gentleman who I had communication with was the "Loss Prevention Auditor" I walk in around 12:00pm noon, and need help finding some nuts and bolts. I approach the stubby and bald fella by the name of "Henry" which clearly ignores me and knows it. I ask him again to see if he could direct me to the metric nuts and bolts. "If we had it, I'd show it to you", is what José said, when I asked him to help me on the shelves to look for a seatbelt strap...he had such a quick snippy attitude to me, a 66yr old female senior. I'm looking for a Velcro or strap to tighten up my seatbelt cross shoulder strap to my cross body strap. It's ok if they don't have it, I just don't need the bad and arrogant attitude that came out of Jose's young mouth. Jose never did come to help me even though I was the only customer in the store. We were looking to purchase a car cover for our 1964 Nova station wagon. We have a custom cover however we were having our house and garage re-painted and wanted to be sure no over spray got on the car, so we needed a double layer just to be sure. We went online and found that the store down the street from us in Castro Valley stated they had a few of the size and brand we wanted. Well, this has happened before as well, nope, nothing there. So we went to the next one, San Leandro on E14th St as it stated they had a few as well. Nope, nothing on the shelf. Waiting in line asked the clerk and nope none in stock all they had is what is on the shelf. We asked the clerk, Cesar to check with the store in San Lorenzo, none, checked with one of the Dublin stores, nope, none. He checked with the Pleasanton store, yep, we have one. He asked that one be put aside for us. We left the store about the leave the parking lot and here comes Cesar running out of the store with a box in his hand, "we have it" he said, just came in today off the truck. That was above and beyond in customer service, he actually took the time to help us and after thinking about it, the truck came in today, he checked and found one for us.
