My mechanic is awesome, but doesn't carry Mobil 1, which is my preferred brand of synthetic oil, and I'm particular about what I put in my car. I always find what I need at O'Reilly, and the staff is always friendly, and happy to help if you have any questions or are looking for auto parts. Both the Blanding and Central locations in Alameda are excellent. One time after purchasing new windshield wipers, an O'Reilly associate installed them for me, in the rain, without me even asking. On this day, I simply needed to replace a tail light bulb on my truck. The store had two types, regular and "super bright." I asked the clerk which one is better. He said the wattage is the same. You know what could improve my thoughts on O'Reilly? They can start by knowing what their adds say and honoring what the add says. The add says "Buy a pair of brake rotors and get one set of brake pads free. Sounds like a pretty good deal right. Instead, I made the purchase of two rotors online this morning. This afternoon I go to pick up my order. No brake pads. They tell me that I needed to purchase the brake pads with the rotors and then when I picked it up they would back out the cost of the rotors. I told them that's not what the add says. They say well that's the way it works. I showed him the add and they have the add in their window. Anyway, long story shorter. No sale for them. Never again. Plain and simple false advertising. I realize the way they wanted me to do it is the same deal but it's the principle. They wanted me to do a return with a refund then make the purchase again with the pads. Total BS ! No more business from me. read more

I dont understand this American mentality of buying a new car, welding the hood shut, driving it to death and then dumping it after ringing out every last ounce of use from it with half a 5 year old burrito stuck between the seat. Its not like that in Germany... you will get a fine for bald tires and enviornmental fees for leaking oil. My dads a pilot and an engineer. Ask any mechanic, engineer, airplane pilot or car buff about maintenance. Its important. Cars and airplanes are built to be maintained. You can save a bit on it if you come here and do stuff yourself. Even more important than saving a few bucks is that you will learn about your car and the importance of an oil change for example. Ever change the oil on a car that has been way over due? After you do that once you will know firsthand the importance of maintenance and may respect your car more. Enough ranting. On to this store. Quiet, clean and friendly helpful workers. Ordered a KandN filter yesterday. Picked it up today after I was called that it was ready. So much more peaceful here that the Fruitvale auto parts store that I normally go to. Both are nearly equidistant to where I live. Probably worth going here. Jack is the man. I came in Sunday morning for a quick pick up of new wiper blades before the rain comes in, since my previous ones were shot. Walked right in and was greeted by Jack, who was behind the counter, and right when I asked where the wiper blades where he immediately called me over and looked up my vehicle to make it even more effortless. He asked me if I wanted the same ones or new ones and retrieved them for me within seconds without making me leave the counter. He was conversating the entire time and after ringing me up he took me out to my car and installed my new ones in a matter of seconds as well as made sure they functioned properly before letting me go. He even gave me some quick pointers as to why my other ones were worn so quickly and how to maintain them to make them last even longer. During the winter time three items usually malfunction on your automobile: 1) Windshield wipers..count on those being replaced every one to two years 2) Headlamps...one or two go out, sometimes at night time. Look at how many cars drive around with one headlamp or none. 3) Battery...cold weather makes it difficult for an automobile to start up. This Kragen's /O Reilly's keeps plenty of these items in stock and when you have two automobiles it pays to visit them for purchasing vs. some of the other higher priced automotive stores. Why isn't this Kragen listed? It is possibly the best Kragen ever, hello! So I've been having car trouble. I came in here to buy some cables with my uncle. Dude behind the counter took forever and I was getting pissed. It was hot and my mama was waiting at a gas station for us to rescue her. He was talking to some other dude, who was apparently his friend or something, and I think it was either him or dude behind the counter who mocked me when I asked the other guy in the store if there were any jumper cables in the store? Yeah, that's right. He laughed at me. But this review is not based upon him. It is based upon my hero who came to the rescue; the other guy in the store, who smiled and kindly pointed out the jumper cables. And then who helped me again when I came back into the store 10 minutes later and helped me pick out a car battery. Who smiled and kindly explained the battery's prices and everything when I said "I don't know anything about batteries. Just give me the best one." Who smiled and kindly waved me to the front register with a laugh when I came back into the store with a credit card. Who smiled and didn't even charge me the core price (because my old battery was coming out right then and there), sold me some $1 felt thingies to put around the battery thingy, and gave me 10% OFF MY PURCHASE. HOLY SHIZ. Who didn't even laugh at me when I said "are those felt thingies to prevent that blue-white stuff that was around the pole thing? Yeah, I'll take some cus that's what on my battery right now." Who helped me carry the battery to the parking lot because I apparently don't have any muscles in my arms. Who, not once, tried to take advantage of me not knowing anything and jacking up the price and selling me things I don't even need. Because why would he do that, and then give me 10% off? This morning I stopped by O'Reilly Auto Parts (formerly Kragen, but all the same people still work there) to buy some car wax. Finding and choosing a wax was easy; paying for it was not. I stood at the cash register for several minutes while the manager, Kevin, chatted with a customer who was casually inquiring about several parts that had to be looked up on the computer and not sure what he wanted. Meanwhile David stood around, generally doing nothing except answering the phone once - I guess he can't work the register. When the customer was finally done, after his interaction with Kevin turned into chit chat, Kevin turned to me and asked what I wanted. What I really wanted was to walk out of the store, but my truck needs wax. He rang up the wax as the previous customer kept interrupting to ask more general questions. Of course, Kevin answered each of them as I again waited. Not once did he acknowledge the situation in any way or tell the guy he'd have to wait. What a waste of time. O'Reilly is the Home Depot of car parts; it probably has what you need but if you don't know what you need, where the part is, or expect the slightest professionalism, this ain't your place. read more

I had a great experience here today! I know almost nothing about cars, but today I knew I needed two new headlights. I went in with the plan to get some LED headlights along with items irrelevant to the 5 star review. When I heard the only LED option they had for my car make and model were LED fog lights, I was bummed because I had called ahead of time (I came from Oakland). I walked around a little more to collect the other items I still wanted, then made my way to the checkout. The super sweet Hispanic gal (her name escapes me, but starts with an A) was very helpful and asked if I found everything I needed. I said "almost"... then told her I wanted a pair of LED headlights. Her search pulled up the same results as the other person who checked previously. She informed me however, that many people use the fog lights as their headlights and it's totally fine. I was a skeptic, but she checked to make sure the connection to the part was the same for both the headlights that I needed and the fog lights that they had. Many would say they perhaps just wanted to make a sale, and ya, maybe that's true ‍ But with that said, this gal came out to my car, lifted the hood, and SHOWED me how to install them. AMAZING; She is a total badass. When I returned home, my husband and I installed them and they look AMAZING!! I could not be more satisfied with my experience. If I can get ahold of her name I will update my post because she deserves a shoutout. read more

My new go-to place for parts. Rainy day - battery troubles. Already late for work, I came in to the store. They had two choices of batteries for my hard to find Audi. First of all, they loaned me the computer memory keeper that plugs into the lighter so the clock and radio and computer settings wouldn't need to be reset after disconnecting the battery. Then they threw in a pair of the terminal protector pads for free. Then the counter guy came out to help me change the battery in the rain. Took the old one inside and tested it to make sure it was just a bad battery and not electrical system issues. All told, in and out in 30 minutes.. Great service, I will be back. read more

The people working here are very helpful! I thought my dashboard's light was burned, so I came here planning to buy a replacement fuse. The manager took a look at my car and said I only needed to turn on the dimmer light. He showed me how and I ended up not having to spend any money. I'm so glad I came here before heading to the auto shop. Then my friend also had the same problem and I turned on her dimmer light, haha.
