A friend and I just had breakfast this morning at the Oak Leaf. At first, we chose to sit at a booth inside but almost immediately decided to move to an outside table because it was such a beautiful morning. No problem. Our server, Aydin, found us in our new location and proceeded to provide EXCELLENT service throughout the meal. The setting was beautiful, under cover and adjacent to a promenade, with the lagoon and natural wildlife area beyond. As the finches cavorted about, Aydin met all our silly requests, "Could I get tomatoes and mushrooms in that omelet? two waters, one with no ice, yada, yada," and did so with patience, professionalism and humor. I've always loved this place, but was underwhelmed and disappointed this last time. The service was just okay. No refilling of drinks unless we asked, mimosa was not made right (and don't expect any garnish), but most importantly, I ordered the Chile Verde omelet and got a steak picada with chile colorado. I mentioned it to the server who said this is how they always make it. The menu very clearly states it is pork ... and verde means green. My sauce was clearly red (colorado). Puras fallas! read more

TL;DR: Solid brunch spot for classic American favorites. A bit on the higher-moderate price range, but still a good time. Came by with some friends on a Saturday morning after seeing it on Yelp, around 11:30. We were seated quickly indoors, though they have outdoor seating available as well. We got to sit right across from where the chefs cooked the food, and could see each order coming out steaming hot. The service was very friendly, and I was a fan of the modern-diner, sort of minimalist aesthetic of the place. Their menu boasts a wide variety of options, and we decided on ordering a Chicken and Waffles ($16), a Country Breakfast ($15), and a Chicken Parmesan ($18). We also asked for a side order of regular fries, despite not seeing that explicitly on the menu, and they were happy to comply ($5). The food came quite quickly, and though the Chicken and Waffles were a bit underseasoned and lacking, the Country Breakfast and Chicken Parm delivered both in portion size and flavor. Overall, while not the absolute best brunch place that I've ever had, Oak Leaf is at least worth checking out to see if its (slightly pricey) foods are worth the fare. read more

I requested my steak to be cooked medium, my eggs fried over easy and sourdough was my toast of choice. The steak was the "star" of my breakfast, and I requested my steak to be cooked medium and it arrived, just as ordered, complete with attractive grill marks. A knife was included to cut the steak, but it was mostly "window dressing," as the steak was juicy, tender and easy to cut with my fork. I didn't ask what cut of steak this was, but it looked to be New York, and it was simply delicious. The steak was large, I'm guessing about 6 ounces, and made for an amazing centerpiece for this great weekday breakfast. As the perfect side for the steak, my breakfast included a good size helping of amazing homestyle fried potatoes. The red potatoes were cut into chunks and perfectly fried on the griddle. As a nice touch, grilled onion and bell pepper garnished the potatoes. I loved it! I realize there those who don't care for grilled pepper and onion on their fried potatoes, so check with your server. My two eggs were fried over easy, exactly as ordered, and were simply perfect. The mark of a breakfast chef with talent is how well they can deliver eggs fried over easy and the chef at Oak Leaf Cafe has talent. The two pieces of sourdough toast were nothing special, but they were buttered and toasted perfectly. A couple packages of jelly were included, but I simply left them, as when it comes to breakfast, I don't have a "sweet tooth." I used some of the toast to mop up the drippings from the meat, potatoes and eggs... yum! At $9.99, this breakfast was an absolute bargain! The portions were large, everything was prepared, as ordered, the breakfast was delicious, and it truly filled me up. You can't go wrong with "Steak and Eggs" at Oak Leaf Cafe! I was not impressed with this place. My husband and I went here on a whim and I had the French toast and he had the veggie egg scramble platter. My French toast was just mediocre and my husbands skillet was very watery. We sat right in front of where the cooks make everything and it was very warm. The prices of the food were ridiculous and not worth the $. I won't be going back here. The view of the water from the outside in the back of the restaurant was nice. read more

Crab cake on the bottom instead of English muffin with salmon, shrimp, and avocado as topping along with fresh berries melon and pineapple The waitress took my order suggestions and the chef made it. First time visiting. Lovely atmosphere. I ordered a steak fajita salad. I was served a chicken Caesar salad. When I questioned it, the server picked it up and served it to another table. She then brought my salad out - plenty of chicken, with a handful of steak thrown on. It was supposed to come with bell peppers and grilled onions. Nope. It was supposed to come with a side of sour cream and choice of dressing. Nada. Nothing pretentious on the menu, but everything sounds good. I had a hard time choosing! The food was great, hot and fresh and they have excellent French fries . And our waitress was so nice I had to tip her more than 20% (tall blonde chick). This review sounds cheesy...I'm kind of embarrassed I wrote it. First impression, the decor and space was really nice! Everything is brand new and bright. We were sat within 5 minutes of waiting and brought waters. We ordered the blueberry pancakes and i believe it was called the southwest omelet? I cant remember for sure though. The only reason I took off one star was because I asked the blueberries to be in the pancakes and they came in a little cup on the side. One of the easier 5 star ratings I've given. When it comes to the immediate Granite Bay/Loomis/Rocklin/Roseville area, you only have one of two types of breakfast restaurant it seems. You either get a diner feel, or you get a high class, exquisite experience such as High Hand Cafe. For the longest time this area has struggled to have a relatively mid-priced, trendy, breakfast place with a sizable menu. Oak Leaf Cafe changes that. And the best part is, they have a great lunch menu as well. The service was quick, the food was absolutely delicious, and the price wasn't outrageously overwhelming. The decor and vibe is trendy and it's in an unassuming enough location that it isn't overly crowded in the mornings. They have a great patio as well for the spring and summer time. I would HIGHLY recommend checking this place out. From Benedicts to crepes, they have you covered. The ONLY thing they could do better is to get a full coffee bar and espresso machine to add to the coffee options. Beyond that, they're fantastic!! read more

We've tried several of their dishes before leaving a review, and each one of them has been stellar, with my personal favorite being the Joe's Special. Ramone has been our waiter the majority of the time we've gone, and he's been wonderful each and every time. I haven't tried their lunch yet, so my review is based purely off of their breakfast. We have eaten at this cafe several times. Today we arrived at 11:30 am. We were told by the man behind the counter that it would be a 25 minute wait for a table. There were open tables inside and out. We asked if we could sit at the counter and were told yes. Then a server showed up and told the man we could be seated at one of 2 open tables. He then told us it would a 25 minute wait to be served at the tables? Then he said the same wait at the bar? At that point we left, and he seemed eager to seat the party of 6 behind us. It was not busy but it took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us to be seated. They didn't have Diet Pepsi. I always forget to snap the pics only because once I get my food it is an automatic "dig in" moment! However, I have ordered the Chilaquiles a little on the spicy side for me but still super good! The french toast is perfect! Soft, buttery, and warm. Pancakes are thin, light, and powdery. Very good too! This last visit I ordered the Steak and eggs! It was perfect even being well done it was soft. Coffee roast is also good my only quam is it would be nice if they had half n half not just dairy free creamers. Went to eat Sunday brunch there while we were visiting family in town. They sat us out in the sun with 2 kids in 85 degree weather. The server was a tad bit slow and ditzy with the service. She delivered our food and she hadn't even silverware on the table, we sat for 10 minutes before getting silverware for the table. My food was warm, not hot like you expect a breakfast to be. Overall the service was okay and the ambiance was awful as they sat a large party outside in the sun when the inside dinning room was empty. We were excited to try a new place in town, it looked really cute inside and menu looked good. Unfortunately don't think we will be back or recommend to local friends. Didn't even get to try the food. Came in and waited at front door for 5 mins, eye contact with the short brunette server twice, no acknowledgment. Eye contact with the younger blonde server, no smile no acknowledgment. Eye contact with the older blond server three times, finally I made a "hello? anyone care" face and she said "one sec!" but never came over. It wasn't busy, counted 5 tables for at least 3 servers. Shouldn't be a problem. I guess I'll chalk it up to bad management? If you can't have a host, manager should be at front door. My wife and I decided to try a new restaurant for breakfast and saw the Yelp ratings were solid for Oak Leaf so decided to try it. Before getting into the details, the 2 is a net number overall. For the appearance it's nice and clean and welcoming. 4+ . The wait time to be seated was reasonable as well, about 10 minutes, 4 . The restaurant was busy and seemed to be staffed adequately. Liz, our waitress was polite. My wife ordered avocado toast and I ordered the 8oz NY Steak and eggs. The wait was very long to be served, about 45 minutes. 1, due to a large party seated ahead of us. It was a little disconcerting to see plate after plate of food go blowing by us all the while seeing the rest of the restaurant sitting and waiting. On the one hand, I understand there's not a lot you can do if you're stuck behind a large group, but on the other, if you're going to offer banquet sized groups to dine, then you need to be able to adequately serve the entire restaurant and not just a single group. Where things were just poor to bad was unfortunately what we went for, the food, which is also 1. When we finally were served, it was barely warm, so it had sat awhile. My wife needed my steak knife to cut the toast it was so tough. Also, only being served a single slice of bread with an egg and some avocado seems more like an appetizer, but at a meal price. My steak which was ordered medium was well done, barely warm, tasteless and full of inedible gristle! I may have been able to eat about half. Normally I'd have said something given how much it costs for a meal anywhere these days, but given how long we'd been there, we didn't want to send it back knowing they were still backed up in the kitchen from the large party. I'm not sure if I just happened to get a poor piece of meat, or if this is just the quality they serve, but if it's "normal" I'd recommend they source their beef elsewhere as I will not be ordering it again; and recommend to be wary if you do. As I wrote in the receipt, it was a very disappointing experience and meal; we really wanted to like it! We may give another try down the line, but there are too many other restaurants with much better food to try again anytime soon. read more

The Staff is over the top kind (allowed a quiet dog in on a very cold winters day), prompt to seat & set up drinks/beverages, & be patient on our perusing the menu on this first visit. Sooo many choices, from benedicts to omlettes, two egg plates to sandwiches. DH had in house made corned beef plate w 2 eggs over easy, country potatoes, toast & jam. I had real chicken fried steak, 2 over easy eggs, country potatoes, toast & jam. It was all perfect. Our only complaint was the coffee tasted burnt & for the price the OJ was a small serving. We will return for the food, but probably not order those beverages. I recommend to the business owner he change coffee vendor or brand, seriously not tasty. Sorry sir. The restaurant itself is very nice with large booths and tables. It has always been busy, but even when it's full of people it does not feel crowded. The menu has something for everyone.
