We had such a fantastic experience at Chart House in Alexandria. I ordered the steak and lobster with a glass of wine, and everything was absolutely delicious. What really stood out, though, was how wonderful our waiter was. We had our two kids with us, and they were mindful that little ones can sometimes be distracting to other guests. Instead of ever making us feel like a nuisance, they treated us with genuine respect, patience, and care. They also had a relaxed vibe which allowed us to enjoy ourselves even more. That meant so much to us as parents. We felt welcomed, comfortable, and truly taken care of throughout the entire meal. The dish came with a deep‑fried boiled egg, a well‑seasoned piece of chicken, and a cornmeal waffle that was crispy, enhanced, and made heavenly with honey butter. We went here to celebrate my son's and DIL's birthdays and we were all glad we did. My son made a great choice. He enjoyed the prime rib once again, I loved the shrimp linguini, my husband enjoyed his crab stuffed sole, and my DIL loved her seafood bouillabaisse. Our appetizers were tasty, too - hummus and the crispy, spicy tuna. The atmosphere is very relaxing and located at a great spot along the water. Christmas dinner was good. Unfortunately I wasn't hungry so I didn't get at it like I wanted to but what I had was better than I thought it would be when I saw it. I honestly forgot what I ordered when it came out and I was confused as to what it was when I saw them bringing it until they told me what it was. Once I tasted it, I was completely surprised by the taste and that I enjoyed it so much. That's a slice of tomato that they put the crab cake on. That tomato was cooked to add the right amount of flavor to the crabcake when eaten together although I ate half together and half separately because it was so good that I wanted both experiences. I should've started with the drink because it came first and it was the feature of my night but they say you should save the best for last. If you like chocolate and bourbon or any type of whiskey, you will likely love this drink. You can taste the chocolate in the drink but it isn't overpowering and it doesn't make the drink too sweet. Next time I will see if they can smoke it. I did say next time because I do have to come back and try a meal since I only had an app however, I will say that this app was in the shareable section and I just can't see how you share one crabcake. It was good but it wasn't large enough to share, especially since it was good. It was good enough to share but only large enough for one (of me). read more

It's been 6 years since we dined at Chart House. We had a late lunch Saturday, March 14, 2026 & to our surprise the quality freshness of both the seafood & steak was outstanding‼. Definitely recommend Chart House. I intentionally gave 4 stars bc when we entered there was no line yet the 3 employees behind the host area desk were busy having a conversation & didn't stop until my husband asked if we could have a table for two. Food The food is okay--I've definitely had better steaks elsewhere. Service The customer service is lacking. It seems to stem from management and how staff are treated. The manager with the low haircut was not welcoming and came across as rude to both customers and employees. Overall, both management and staff could be more friendly and engaging. They offer specialty cocktails, but they're not promoted or prepared with any enthusiasm. Ordering one feels like an inconvenience, which shouldn't be the case. The bartenders, in particular, could improve their customer interaction. I expected a higher level of service from an establishment like this. Ambiance The ambiance is nice, but there's a noticeable issue with the bar. It appears to be slanted, possibly due to foundation settling. If that's the case, it should be addressed. Guests shouldn't have to worry about their food or drinks sliding. read more

If you were already thinking it...you're correct; it's only good for the location. Don't go hungry. Went for brunch, outdoor seating. Service was lacking - understaffed and took way too long. Server was friendly, but servicing too many tables for a Sunday afternoon at the end of summer. Only 2 waiters for an expansive patio. I had to grab my own silverware and side plate from another table, since appetizer arrived without it. Main course finally arrived 1.5 hrs after we were seated. It was terrible. Kid's cheeseburger was surprisingly on a pretzel bun, but the bun was doughy and slightly wet. Shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles were severely underwhelming and no one finished their meal. I had the crab dip appetizer and there wasn't enough bread and I didn't love the cheese used in this particular dish. read more

I haven't been to Chart House in years until just a few days ago for lunch. The restaurant ambiance was calm and inviting. Our server, Elle, was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were good, but could have used a little more shrimp and possibly a salsa. The sweet potato fries were freshly cut and fried to perfection with a hint of salt. I would order my meal again. Others I had lunch with indicated their meals were good as well, especially the crab cake sandwich, clam chowder and fish and chips. The weather was nice so there was a great view to enjoy and socialize by. If you're in Olde Town check them out. read more

Very disappointing experience. The service is totally unacceptable and unpleasant The server was very rude and unwelcoming throughout our visit. What upset us the most was the huge difference in how we were treated compared to the table next to us. They received frequent check-ins and attentive service, while our water glasses were left empty and were never refilled unless we asked. We spent hundreds of dollars here and this is what we get??????? It also took an unusually long time before anyone came to our table, and from start to finish there was no greeting, no smile, and no effort to make us feel welcome. As Asian customers, the contrast in treatment made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Good food cannot make up for poor service. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative impression, and I would not recommend this restaurant based on the service alone. read more

Though i was joining my parents who were already seated and had a drink - the waiter came to the table twice before he acknowledged I was there and asked me if i wanted something besides water. After that it was ok. Calamari was pretty good - i liked how it remained crispy with the sauce. My main was filet and shrimp, i was able to sub the mashed potatoes for the cucumber tomato salad which, strangely, was the best part of my meal. The filet was cooked to temp (med) but lacked any flavor.. not even salt. The shrimp was plainly grilled and dry with not a lick of seasoning anywhere. I was reminded why I dont patronize this place- id been a couple times before years ago (and to the other location) and never had a memorable meal. My dad's food lacked taste (pasta dish) too- this was Father's Day so i'm kinda upset we didnt choose somewhere else. $300+ for a lackluster meal. It is my birthday and we made our reservation a month in advance because it is Valentine's Day as well. Got here 10 minutes before the time and check in and there was a wait. The restaurant is old and in need of an upgrade. There was no ambience. The salmon was just ok, the table next to us returned her meal twice. I gave my waiter my knife because it was dirty and he never brought a clean one back. I had to asked the server who delivered the salmon for a knife. This was a first and last visit for me. This prime rib hash dish seemed like it was made up of leftover items that were in the kitchen this morning. And it cost 27 dollars!! It was made of the same type of meat that is used in cheesesteaks. But less meat. They should be ashamed of themselves. And the cheddar waffles were dry and flavorless and not good at all. The only item that was passable was the calamari. But that was cold. The flavor was great and the sauce in the top was good. But it was cold. They need to do better. read more

While in the area for my friend's son's graduation from the Naval Academy over Memorial Weekend, we met up with one of my cousins in the area for brunch/lunch after we went to Arlington Cemetery. The weather was beautiful. They didn't have outside seating available but were able to fairly quickly seat us inside with a window view of the water. We enjoyed the food and the view. I am incredibly shocked to see this place only has 3.5 stars. I did not check Yelp before coming here, which I usually do, and I usually only pick restaurants with 4+ stars due to experience. I am glad this was a fluke because this places deserves FIVE STARS. Everything was fabulous. Our waitress Caroline was very sweet, attentive, and helpful. We brought our small kid and he got a birthday Sunday at the end with a candle. The hostess was wonderful and allowed us to sit at a table next to the window over the water. The inside was very elegant with a low ambiance. Low lights and clothed tables. The bar was fabulous and had amazing cocktail options. The menu, in my opinion, was not overpriced. The prices were fair for seafood and the experience and worth every dime. They had a great selection for the kids menu. We ordered the Mac and cheese with the broccolini, which was a nice size! I ordered the shellfish dish with scallops, shrimp, and mussels. It typically comes as a boil with bread, but our waitress recommended adding pasta, which was a fantastic choice! The sauce was amazing and light. It was very light but flavorful. The seafood was cooked excellent. You also get starter bread, which was delicious. The crackers and pumpernickel bread were a fan favorite. The butter was fluffy and the bread added perfectly to my dish. I also ordered a small side of the asparagus, which came with a decent portion and was cooked with melted butter and bread crumbs. My boyfriend had the meal with a clam chowder (could choose salad), the prime rib with mashed potatoes, and a lava cake. The clam chowder was excellent. Not fishy and very creamy. All the potatoes, veggies, and clam were small sizes not large chunks. It was amazing. The lava cake was PHENOMENAL. By far one of my favorite desserts. I would order this as a stand alone it was so good. It was perfectly molten with chocolate sauce and nuts on top. It had a crust with a gooey inside. I came to Chart House on a Saturday afternoon. I was in the area strolling my kids around and looking for a stroller friendly spot. Chart House conveniently has a ramp leading to the entrance so that you don't have to lug your strollers up some stairs. The view of the water is beautiful on a nice, sunny day. The wait time was about 20 minutes without a reservation and we were seated in about 10 minutes. We ordered the following: - Seared Peppered Ahi Tuna - This is ideal to share between two people. This comes with Avocado, Cabbage Slaw and Wonton Salad. This was okay, not terrible and not amazing. The downfall of the plate would be the wasabi... it tasted like it came out of a tube. - Smash Burger - This comes with Diner Sauce, Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions and Pickles. You also get a choice of Skinny Fries or Sweet Potato Fries. Again, not terrible and not amazing... it was okay. - Lobster Roll - This is a classic Maine Lobster (served cold). I was not a fan of this... I like my lobster served in chunks versus finely shredded. The flavor was lacking. This also comes with a choice of Skinny Fries or Sweet Potato Fries. - Kids Chicken Tenders - This was honestly the best thing that we ordered. The Chicken Tenders were perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. This also came with a side of Skinny Fries. Despite the majority of our food being average, I still think this is a great option if you are in the area due to the view if you are able to be seated outside and the wonderful staff. The food came out super fast, which was such a blessing especially with two young kids we know our meal time is limited! The staff were pleasant, polite and attentive. We were checked on multiple times throughout our meal. I may have just ordered the wrong menu items so I would definitely come back if I am in the area to try other menu items :) read more

Would love to give zero if I could. Showed up and was told first table is available 9:15pm. Made OpenTable reservation for 8:45pm. They give terrible table. Dining hall half empty. They sent us a table at the window and draw a random party from crowd and tell me they were slated for this table. And tell me I have to wait for 30 minutes for any table other than the crappy table the they offered us. Restaraunt half empty and they refuse to sit us at a good table. read more

The food was outstanding every cut of meat was perfectly seasoned, tender, and served fresh. The salad bar had a huge variety of high-quality options, and everything tasted fresh. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, making it a great place for a special occasion or a nice dinner out. Our meals were delicious (the herb-crusted salmon was perfect, the miso-glazed was good). While host who initially showed us to a table wasn't "all that," (there weren't many other patrons when we arrived for our 4:30 reservation, but the host wasn't accommodating with seating us a few tables over for a closer view of DC). We asked to speak to a manager, and were told any seat would be fine. Iyniya was spot on with greeting us and bringing the bottle of wine we requested. The pace of the meal - and her lovely smile and pleasant conversation - really made our evening. She is a "keeper," for sure! read more
