Tried Oak Steakhouse for the first time last night and had an awesome experience. The steak was incredible, perfectly cooked and full of flavor, easily one of the better steaks I've had in Charleston. I know there's a lot of hype around Hall's, and the atmosphere there is definitely great, but in my opinion the food at Oak is better. It feels a touch more relaxed than Hall's while still being a really nice, upscale spot. If you're visiting Charleston and looking for a great steakhouse, I'd absolutely recommend Oak.

Sat at the bar for a quick dinner before the Playhouse. We like sitting at the bar most of the time. We love the feel and one less communication link in getting the order right. The bartender was excellent making the best Manhattan I've had in a while. My wife had a drink off the cocktail menu that was also excellent. Deviled Eggs to start. I loved them. Little rich for the wife We each ordered a salad with a side crab cake with dressing on the side. The salads were generous and lots of Parmesan on the Caesar. The dressing on the Oak Salad was a bit tart. I'd get a different dressing next time. The crabcake was a bit disappointing. The spice and sauce took away from what could have been a succulent crab experience. Instead the taste of Old Bay prevailed. All in all a nice experience in a cozy upscale atmosphere. Visited Oak for the first time during restaurant week after having lived in Charleston for 6 years this felt very overdue for a first time! For restaurant week, they had offered a 3 course meal, with select starters, entrees, and desert for 60 dollars. As it was date night, we started with some cocktails, a pecan lane, rye whiskey, pecan liqueur, chocolate bitters, like and angry parent after you were late for curfew, the Rye meets you at the door, but glad you are home safe, the pecan liquor and bitters slowly warms you and tucks you in to bed. My date started with their pickle martini, two of her favorite things! My date and I ultimately decided on the both having the tenderloin for the entree, cooked to our requested medium rare, served over a heavenly bed of potato's, whipped to the consistency of what I can only describe as what I imagine a Pixar movie cloud would feel like. The tenderloin it self was tender, with good beefy flavor, and a warm sear and crust. The starters stole the show though, oysters had the perfect combination of Smokey, and savory with the bacon, spinach an herbs paired with the fresh oysters. The beef carpaccio was the star of the night. A bed of finely sliced beef drizzled in a flavorful olive oil and topped with the perfect peppery arugula and salty Parmesan cheese. As someone who does not enjoy overly citrus heavy flavors, the compliment of the lemon juice paired faultless with the salt of the cheese. Oak is now a favorite in our books, and we are looking forward to returning to continue to explore the menu and try their other options, but one thing is for sure, the carpaccio will be had every time!

I came here with some girlfriends for a holiday celebration. We had a reservation but were seated about 30 minutes after. The hostess did offer us a glass of wine while we waited which was much appreciated. Once sat we started by ordering a couple of appetizers including the oysters Rockefeller. When the order came out, they brought us two orders and sat them on the table. We mentioned that we only ordered one, but the server left it on the table and walked away. We didn't touch it (not that she knew that) she returned and grabbed the plate and said it was her mistake, and she was taking it back to the kitchen. We watched her handed to another server, who then gave it to another table. I found this very inappropriate because once food has been left on a table, it should be discarded and not given to another patron. We ordered steak and several sides, one of which was the lobster mac & cheese frankly I was pretty disappointed with the amount of lobster for the price. The service was good from the person who took our order and waited on us it was truly the wait time and the server who dropped off the dish and took it off our table to serve to another patron that turned me off. Oak Steakhouse is a long-standing staple in Charleston, and for good reason. We visited post-Christmas and were reminded why this spot is so special. Sure, the steaks are great (and we did enjoy one). And, the mac and cheese is worth the visit on its own. Order it and share! We had an oyster, too, equally great with several sauces offered to augment the experience. Beyond that, the service is splendid and the setting is beautiful. We were there at the holidays and the decorations were lovely. We have been at other times of the year and the spot is elegant at all times. They had a newish cocktail - Wine Not an Old Fashioned - it was delicious. Plan on having a a couple (and maybe calling Uber/Lyft, lol). We are fortunate to have Oak in our hometown!

Oak Steakhouse was a solid experience overall, but not one that blew us away or made it an immediate must return. First thing to note, the location is very easy to miss. My wife and I walked from our hotel and nearly passed it. There is no hanging street sign like many downtown Charleston restaurants, just the logo on the door, so you really have to be paying attention. Once inside, first impressions were strong. The restaurant is beautiful and we were taken upstairs to the top floor of what appears to be a three story building. The space is intimate, though seating is definitely tight. You can easily hear conversations from nearby tables, which is not necessarily bad, but it does feel like they fit as many tables in as possible. We started with the Oak Salad, which was excellent. The pancetta really stood out and the salad itself was well balanced and flavorful. Easily a nine out of ten. For bread, we ordered the Parker House rolls, which were fantastic. It is also worth noting that a portion of the proceeds from the rolls goes to charity, which made the decision even easier. No complaints at all there. For our main course, we originally wanted the twelve ounce filet, but our server repeatedly pushed us toward the fifteen ounce bone in filet, which is about thirty dollars more. We ultimately went with the bone in option, though it was more than we were really looking for. The steak itself was good, but very fatty, with a large fat cap that was not clearly explained beforehand. While still a decent steak, I honestly would have preferred the twelve ounce filet. I would rate it around a seven out of ten. Our sides were a highlight. We ordered the loaded whipped potatoes and the fried Brussels sprouts. Both were very good. The potatoes were flavorful but firmer than I typically like. The pancetta really carried the dish, so I would only recommend them if you get them loaded. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, tossed in a sesame apple gochujang sauce that added just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. We finished with the crème brûlée. The custard itself was good, but the caramelized sugar layer on top was very thin, so you miss that classic crack and deep caramel flavor you usually expect. It leaned more custard forward than traditional crème brûlée. Overall, Oak Steakhouse is a good restaurant with a nice atmosphere and several strong dishes. It is not a place we would rush back to, but if we were nearby and looking for reservations, we would consider it again.

We celebrated our anniversary at Oak Steakhouse and had a wonderful experience overall. The decor is absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere feels warm and upscale. The staff was so friendly from start to finish, and our waiter was truly amazing. They even surprised us with two complimentary glasses of champagne to celebrate -- such a thoughtful touch! For appetizers, we ordered the Beef Carpaccio and the Confit Beef Belly. Both dishes were delicious -- my husband preferred one, I preferred the other, so it worked out perfectly! They also came out very quickly. For entrées, we shared the 20 oz dry-aged bone-in ribeye topped with king crab butter, along with the king crab leg. The kitchen kindly warmed the crab for me since it's normally served cold -- I really appreciated the accommodation -- though it did end up slightly overcooked. The ribeye, however, was rich and flavorful. I enjoyed a glass of a Malbec/Syrah blend, and my husband had a Manhattan. He liked it but mentioned it tasted a bit more like an Old Fashioned. For sides, we split half orders of the Brussels sprouts and the whipped mashed potatoes. The Brussels sprouts could have been a little crispier, but the mashed potatoes were absolutely perfect -- creamy, smooth, and seasoned just right. To finish the night, we shared the s'mores cake, which was fantastic! I personally would've loved a little more of the marshmallow mousse, but overall it was delicious and a great end to the meal. With drinks, appetizers, entrées, dessert, and an additional glass of wine, our total came to $323. For a special occasion, it felt worth it, and we'd definitely consider returning. This is not a pet friendly establishment.

Do yourself a favor and go here. It is 3 levels and every level is beautiful! The drinks were good, the steak was great. I don't know if I have ever had a better server in my life. It is well worth the money.

We arrived without a reservation and we're able to be seated quickly. The waiter was patient and informative about specials and recommendations. The food was fresh and tasty. The music was a little loud, but likely because it was near closing, and they were starting to clean. Other than that, it was a very chill atmosphere. I will be back soon.

Beautiful ambience and attention to detail with the service! That was definitely a highlight for us. The food was good although be prepared to pay for each item you order- nothing comes with sides, they are all sold separately. We were too full for dessert but they looked incredible. The drinks also have fun names and are delicious if that is something you're into.

We came here to celebrate an anniversary which I noted at the time of reservation and also confirmed on the phone when asked. I am starting off with this because they made it seem like they would do something special for us, but nothing, anyways, we ordered oysters, salad, and the jalapeño corn bread and steak frites. Everything was yummy, however, when we first entered the restaurant there was a very funky smell. Not sure what it was but rubbed me the wrong way. I got a fig margarita and it wasn't the best cocktail but overall, it's worth giving a try once. Honestly better steak houses in the area. Wish we didn't waste our anni date here, because it wasn't lived up to our expectations.

This was a tough one to review. Based on the price, quality, and overall experience, I've decided on two stars and will not be returning, unless Aubrey Plaza is in town and demands it before we get to the hot tub on the roof. Items ordered for dinner included the 12oz filet (medium rare), Oysters Rockefeller, Parker Rolls ($6), whipped potatoes, and roasted jalapeño cornbread. First of all, I never thought I'd eat at a "premium" steak house that had no idea what steak prepared "au poivre" is, which is why I ordered the filet. Instead I was brought a dry filet with a thimble sized side of alleged au poivre sauce that looked like it came out of a salad dressing bottle ($2.00). The steak was properly cooked, but was almost void of any seasoning and seemed like a slightly inferior cut. However, before the steak hit the table, I had a good time watching the server walk to no less than three tables with my Parker Rolls and Oysters Rockefeller before mercy was granted and she was shown to my table. I enjoyed the oysters very much, but the "Parker Rolls" were an absolute embarrassment for $6.00. There were only two, and they seemed like they were toasted versions of something I'd find in a plastic bag down the street in the bakery section of the Publix. An absolute joke for $6.00 and an obvious revenue generator. The Oysters Rockefeller were tasty, and local. Definitely enjoyed them and after seeing the "rolls of failure" quietly wished I had ordered more. Whipped potatoes were surprisingly good - very rich and full of flavor. The $13 "jalapeño roasted cornbread" was an insult to every Native American who ever ground corn to make bread. It was certainly not horrible, but for $13, it made the Parker Rolls blush at my table. After shouting "let me up, I've had enough" I got up and called it a night. The restaurant itself is awesome - three floors, well organized, and perfect for a date...unless they expect a steakhouse to know how to prepare a steak au poivre. At the end of the day, the Oak is designed for tourists who feel they're eating prime when they're really just visiting Outback 2.0.

I was so excited to try this place as the beef is locally sourced and the seafood is sustainable. I must say there was bit of magic in the Oyster Rockefeller, but I couldn't say the same for my overcooked and overpriced 8 oz filet served with $13 black truffle butter. The building itself is historic, elegant and stunning, but I thought the service and food could be a bit better for a fine dining restaurant. read more

I went in for the first time on a business dinner. Had no expectations as I haven't heard very many reviews. The building is an awesome old relic in downtown Charleston. The bar area is quaint and reminds me of a neighborhood pub. The staff is very good; friendly and knowledgeable and happy to give suggestions. The food was good. We started with a dozen oysters and they were excellent. The cocktail sauce is really good with some added horseradish. We split the porterhouse and it was plenty of food for two. Ordered medium rare and it was grilled almost perfectly. It was a touch towards medium. The flavor was good, not great. The sides were had were good. The brussel sprouts were delicious and I will get them again! We also had the mac n cheese and creamed spinach. Dessert was very good. We had the apple butter cheesecake and it was fantastic. The chocolate brownie Sunday (not sure of the exact name) was good. Overall, it is worth a second try or your first. read more

This was the greatest dining experience I've ever had in my life. Service was perfect from beginning to the end. Had the caviar deviled eggs as an appetizer and the fries. Perfect. Everything came out so fresh and delicious it was truly the best food I've ever had. The ambiance was classy and formal attire while leaving room for relaxation and a sense of just friendliness and warmth from the entire place. My favorite steakhouse in town! Crudo and carpaccio are musts. The crudo its self was so fresh, the sauce was not my favorite on its own but I will be going back because of how fresh the fish was. Carpaccio is a classic for them. Great wine list there is so much variety and the ambience as well as service is top tier. They are real professionals. read more

We were the first patrons to arrive on a Monday evening with a 5:15 dinner reservation. We were sat upstairs and ordered right away. I do not recommend being the first people to show up or having a reservation before it is dark out as it takes away from the upscale feeling. We felt out of place and awkward. The Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes we had were mediocre, but the filet was downright bad. First, it was undercooked. Our waiter was great and offered to put it back on some heat, but I kindly declined. It wasn't anything I could handle. However, I thought I was imagining the weird taste of the meat until I finally asked my boyfriend if his tasted weird too. The crust had a burnt taste to it, and his tasted the same. We were sorely disappointed that we spent well over $100 on something that tasted awful. read more

We had a private party of 13 and ate on the 3rd floor. We had a set menu and it felt special. We had the crab cakes and oysters as apps and they were fantastic. The Caesar salad had anchovies, which is my favorite. We had filets and strips and everyone enjoyed them. The best family style side was the Mac and cheese. We wrapped up dinner with family style desserts which were amazing. read more

What I got: Scallops appetizer, Pappardelle Bolognese, Creamed Spinach, Whipped Potatoes (loaded). Fiancée had 12 oz. Filet Mignon. Thoughts: One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Our waiter was charming, mellow, and helpful -- great guy. The pasta I had took me back to being a 16 year old working as a dishwasher in an Italian restaurant where the bolognese tasted precisely of our "family" meals -- nearly brought a tear to my eye as I was transported back to a now distant time and place. This was our first time at Oak and it didn't disappoint. Thanksgiving has become our family vacation or dinner at a fancy restaurant. It's not that I don't like cooking, it's the time and energy to cook and clean all day and eat for about 30 mins. Anyways oak offered a thanksgiving pre-fixed menu and it was delicious. Everyone had the turkey, with sweet potato suffle, mashed potatoes, crispy Brussels and gravy. The dessert was subpar except for my gluten free cheesecake nobody liked their apple or pumpkin small pies. The drinks were good and while the atmosphere was loud it was worth our time. The bill was well over $500 so be ready to drop some dollars! read more

I just got back from a week in Charleston, on two of those nights we decided to have dinner at The Oak. On Wednesday, I had the burger, two other members of the party had steaks. My burger was barely cooked, the steaks, ordered medium rare, were sent back because they were raw. On Thursday, another person joined us for a night out and we went back to The Oak. I had the fried oysters, the other three had the burger, each of which was sent back to the kitchen as they came out raw, uncooked and cold in the center. I, on the other hand, spent the night hugging the toilet with food poisoning from those oysters. We used to go to The Oak a lot, then we stopped for years because the quality just didn't hold up with all of the other choices on Broad Street, we won't be back until it's sold, renovated and renamed. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite before our show. I've heard of this place before but never actually tried them and were pleasantly surprised! The host was very accommodating of our time restraints and we were served this 5 star meal within minutes!! The quality of their ingredients was top notch & it has a very romantic ambiance. Stunning experience at Oak Steakhouse in Charleston a couple weeks ago. 4 of us, started with cocktails, top shelf concoctions, then apps, carpaccio, oysters, shrimp, salad. Main courses were various versions of filet and was extraordinary, with various accompaniments. Red wine with Dinner and shared chocolate cake shared for dessert.. Service was impeccable. Was here for the first time this past weekend. I brought my dad down from Boston to visit my graduating son at CC. Was the best service and the best food I've had in Charleston since visiting here many times over the past four years. I have eaten at every top 20 restaurants in the area. The space is large, spacious, and very well designed. Carpaccio was outstanding, as was the Parker House rolls. We all got Filets which were perfectly med rare, and well seasoned. Along with asparagus, whipped potatoes, & a gravy the waiter suggested. We paired it with a Tuscan wine. It was a truly remarkable dinner completed with Strawberry Shortcake, another wonderful suggestion. Ask for Remesh if you visit. Perfect gentleman, outstanding Waiter. read more

My oh my! Any review posted about the food being meh has to be a mistake! I had the filet with blue cheese and my boyfriend had the ribeye with a side of their house steak sauce and grilled shrimp and LET ME TELL YOU, it was absolutely fantastic. I will say his topped mine, hands down, but both were so delicious. We ordered the broccoli and truffle frittes as our sides which were so good! They had a fantastic wine selection and made a darn good old fashioned. Last but not least, the staff were so kind and Alex, our server, was so polite and gave us some recommendations on how to spend our weekend. Well done Oak Steakhouse. SERVICE- We had Chris, service was absolutely phenomenal. We were late to our reservation due to a hiccup on the way to the restaurant and Chris gave the entire table a free round of tequila. He also was very attentive changing silverware and platings at every opportunity, as well as keeping the table clean at all times. STARTERS - We had the jalapeño cornbread and pork belly. JALAPEÑO CORNBREAD- Very moist and sweet. Some of the best cornbread we have ever had, the spicy kick was enough to taste but didn't overwhelm the dish. Only critiques are it wasn't very hot and needed a touch more salt. PORK BELLY- Very good, well plated and very balanced. However it was spicier than expected. ENTREES- We had the 14 oz Prime Choice NY strip and the 20oz dry age ribeye (BOTH WITH TRUFFLE BUTTER) 14 OZ PRIME CHOICE NY STRIP - The strip was ordered medium-rare and it was cooked perfectly! The meat itself was great quality but personally the flavor wasn't completely there. It had a deep char on the outside which I feel overpowered the steaks flavor. 20oz Dry Age Ribeye - Has to be the best steak they offer. The flavor was great, the texture was great, and it was perfectly cooked. I would recommend getting this steak if you find yourself at oaks steakhouse. SIDES - We ordered the Brussels sprouts and the bacon Mac n cheese, both of which I couldn't find a complaint about if i tried. The Brussels sprouts were very balanced with sweetness and a natural flavor, and the Mac n cheese was 10/10. read more

Outstanding steakhouse! I love that this is a three story building. It did get a bit loud in here, which made it tough to enjoy my date night. The food itself was excellent; my filet was tasty and tender, my girlfriend's wagyu was as well. Wedge salad was a little skimpy, unfortunately. Key lime trifle was a delight. Made reservations for dinner and was seated upstairs at a small table for two. Our waiter was polite and brought us water and took our cocktail orders. For appetizers we ordered the Parker house rolls and the broiled scallops. The rolls came out hot in a little basket of four with honey butter/ awesome!! The broiled scallops were two scallops - yes two scallops with a little sauce for dipping and looked a little sad but were very tasty. For dinner we ordered a fillet and a rib eye. The fillet was good and my husband liked the rib eye. We both had a wedge salad and it was just okay - wasn't a true wedge, more like a bowl of lettuce with dressing. Decided to skip dessert / my head was getting random drips of water from the vent above. Overall, service was good and the food was average. There are plenty of restaurants in the area that I enjoyed so much more. I honestly think it was over priced. read more

What a disappointment. Arrived a few minutes early and was seated immediately. After reviewing the menu, we placed our dinner order. The shrimp cocktail arrived in a matter of minutes it looked and tasted as if it was sitting out on the back porch for hours, should have sent it back to the kitchen. The main course took over an hour to be served. The steak, mashed potatoes & Mushrooms (I guess they called these things mushrooms, anything but, all were served luke worm at best. The staff needs to go back to culinarily school to learn how to cook and then serve a warm plate. The disappointment was that they charged $250.00 for dinner for two patrons. Oh yes, at best the restaurant was 60% full. read more

We visited Oak Steakhouse this evening with our group. It was so delicious! The food was great and the service was top notch! My steak probably could have been cut with a fork and was one of the best ribeyes I have ever had. We all finished off with delicious desserts and most could have definitely been share as they were large. I would most definitely recommend Oak to whomever and would go back again! read more

We went to Oak to celebrate my husbands birthday. He's been wanting to go to a nice steakhouse downtown since we moved here in 2016 and I'm glad we chose Oak! The atmosphere is really gorgeous and classic downtown South of Broad Charleston. Excellent service frequently refilling our waters, cleaning our table, and spacing out appetizers and entrees. The oysters Rockefeller were some of the best I've ever had! And the sides were honestly just as good as the steak. We tried a few sauces with the steak and loved them. read more

Best place to celebrate a birthday or just a casual meal at the bar. Had my husbands 60th in their gorgeous upper room with 30 friends and the entire staff made the entire group feel well cared for and the food... superb. Have dined here many times for date night at the bar and each meal has been exceptional and the bartenders attentive and fun. We decided to return for a quiet birthday dinner a year later and it did not disappoint down to my husband's preferred cocktail. I ironically ate @ Oak + Halls within a week of each other. Oak is 100% more my vibe (& choice) if you're deciding between the two. The atmosphere at Oak is classy and nice but significantly less "over the top." The staff is knowledgeable and world class, without being pretentious (for lack of a better term! Ugh sorry Halls). The food was delicious. Steak so tasty and melted like butter. They do a have a bar area as well where you could make the meal even more informal by chilling there for a drink or meal. Can't wait to come back to Oak and try more things on the menu. read more

What an amazing evening! I left a note on Open Table saying that we were celebrating our engagement when I booked the reservation and we had no idea the amount of hospitality that was coming our way. Our server Eric really made us feel special tonight. The food was so delicious and the portion sizes were more than enough to fill us up! We got oysters Rockefeller and some oyster half shells to start, which truthfully, I was stuffed after 2 of each lol! They were amazing! The filet was cooked perfect. The lobster tail - to die for! The Mac and cheese with crab came home with us because we were too filled up. To finish dinner off, we had the most amazing crème brûlée. They put a little chocolate sign on it saying "congratulations". My fiancé and I couldn't stop talking about what an amazing evening this was for us and how perfect our table was. Always a pleasure to dine here. You can not beat the filet. Its always an excellent choice. It's cooked to perfection and a good size portion. Sides are great too but I would recommend the French onion soup. One of the best I've had. Staff is attentive. There is a romantic vibe when eating upstairs. Downstairs is a bit more energy and noise but still a great choice. Don't forget to try dessert (if you have room). Only down fall is parking. Get there early if it's a weekend to find street parking or use the parking garage close by. read more

5 stars across the board! Pricy but good things always are. Top notch service, excellent cocktails, great apps, wonderful wine list and the best filets we've ever had. First it started with super accommodating hosts that took our baby carriage, found it a safe home with all our essentials and sat us at a wonderful table away from others in case the baby ended up getting loud. Then the server was wonderful, stepped us through the menu like a pro and made wonderful recommendations. The filets were amazing, charcuterie board fantastic, sides were great. The only slightly disappointing piece of the meal were the Parker's rolls but I'm from the northeast and bread just doesn't compete down here. Pretty dry but if that's the only thing I can complain about, that's really good! Steaks cooked perfectly and highly recommend the mushrooms AND the onions as sides with the steaks. read more

Our tenth wedding anniversary was one of our first "date nights" in a year due to the pandemic, and Oak Steakhouse made it one to remember. Since we came on a Saturday evening, we made a reservation online, which I highly advise no matter what day and time you plan to come. Those reservations fill up quickly! Oak opens at 5 PM, and we were actually the first party/couple at the restaurant. The hostess led us to the third floor, to what I think is the best seat in the house, right by the window with a view of Broad Street. Our server, Robert, introduced himself and took our drink, appetizer, and food orders. For apps, we split the scallops dish, and the kitchen actually served it on two separate plates. The scallops were buttery and tender, with flavorful root vegetables. My husband had the Oysters Rockefeller, which he enjoyed. There's no way to pescatarian-ize the Oysters Rockefeller (it's made with bacon), so I didn't try it. For entrees, I had the vegetarian plate of Carolina gold rice and root vegetables. The dish was plated beautifully, and if you're a vegetarian, don't hesitate to come to Oak and order this. It changes each night depending on what's available and in-season, as Oak strives to use local products. My husband's entrée was the mixed grill, which was prepared medium rare. The mixed grill is large enough for two people to split or to have leftovers, and he took some home. We also had the jalapeno cornbread as a side, which was savory, sweet, and had a bit of heat. You receive complimentary bread before the meal, too. Dessert was a decadent chocolate cake with caramel bourbon ice cream. The cake was even served with a "Happy Anniversary" garnish made of edible chocolate. This is a wonderful dessert for a couple or family to split, but if more than two people split it, order extra scoops of ice cream. Our leftover cake (about half of it) was delicious paired with vanilla ice cream we had at home. Pandemic precautions were excellent. All employees were masked and all customers had to wear masks too- a large sign on the door denoted this. If you needed a new or clean mask, disposables were at the door as well. Each table had a small bottle of local hand sanitizer. Pre-pandemic, they offered valet parking but aren't doing this right now. As a whole, our meal was timed perfectly with dishes coming out right on time and at the right temperature, from the steak to the cocktails. The steakhouse is beautiful inside, with dark, natural décor. We would recommend Oak and return for future special occasions. read more

Wow!!! The steak is absolutely amazing. The service is pleasant and quick which is wonderful. The bread appetizer is delicious. It's is fresh baked every day. The honey butter pairs really well. The whipped potatoes are great and don't taste like processed food. Will definitely come back the next time we are in town. The only draw back is the two flights of stairs up to the main dining area. Service: five stars Food: three stars Jackson, our server, was top tier as far as servers go. He was attentive without being overly so. We ordered the Parker rolls (must have), shrimp cocktail (average), whipped potatoes (incredible), and NY and filet steaks. The steaks were super disappointing. Quality of meat was great, but the char was excessive. All I could taste is bitterness, even with the sauce and delicious potatoes. Yes, I could've sent it back and Jackson would've been great about it, but then there's the result of unequal service (my husband eating without me). I decided I'd just tough it out. Regrets. If you go, keep the char in mind and maybe ask for less? I should have. read more

Service was pretty professional here as one should expect. Food was very good and steak cooked perfectly. Drinks are well made and stout. The only peeve is sneaking a bread service charge on the ticket when I didn't order it; server just brought it on their own. I had a $375 tab for two anyway. So unnecessary. Our server was nowhere to be found, so I started picking around them and eating the wrap. A few minutes later, she came back with the corrected wrap, but by then I'd already started eating the first one. The flavors of the wrap were actually good, but the texture of the chicken was awful. It was so off putting that it honestly made me nauseous. I only managed a few bites before I was done, and no one ever asked if everything was okay or why I had barely touched my meal. That said, the restaurant itself is beautiful. The atmosphere is what really stands out. It feels like you're dining inside a church, and I believe it actually is a restored church. Between the stained glass, the artwork, and the writing on the walls, it's a really unique and impressive space. I'd probably come back for drinks because the bar looked like it had a great vibe, and the bartender seemed to be providing excellent service. Next time, I'd definitely sit at the bar, but I don't think I'd order the food again.

Little things like that genuinely improve the guest experience. Unfortunately, that's where most of my praise ends. I intentionally ordered many of the restaurant's signature dishes because I wanted to judge the restaurant as a whole rather than base my opinion on one successful plate. The food simply doesn't live up to the expectations created by the photos. Everything looks noticeably less refined and less appetizing once it reaches the table. The fried chicken was just ordinary chicken in a heavy, greasy breading. The oysters were fresh and enjoyable with no complaints there. The famous salad turned out to be mostly a large bowl of cabbage, while the avocado and mandarin seemed more decorative than meaningful. Most of the flavor came from mint and an overly acidic vinaigrette that dominated the dish. The fish sandwich was the biggest disappointment. The issue wasn't the fish itself but the composition of the sandwich. The dry, stale bun completely overpowered everything else, while the basic vegetables did nothing to complement or elevate the fish. Instead of highlighting the main ingredient, the sandwich buried it, which defeats the entire purpose of a great fish sandwich. The Korean smashed cucumber salad tasted primarily of vinegar and sesame oil with very little depth, while the hush puppies were dry and lacked the rich corn flavor that usually makes them memorable. Even the drinks reinforced the same impression. The beer was good, but charging $8 for what felt like half of a standard pour once again made the value feel questionable. This brings me to the biggest issue with Leon's. It feels like the restaurant invests far more in its atmosphere, interior design, and photogenic image than in its food. It's a place that looks incredible in pictures and is easy to recommend for the setting, but much harder to recommend for the cuisine itself. High prices are not a problem when they are backed by exceptional cooking. Here, however, it felt as though I was paying for the restaurant's reputation, constant stream of tourists, and social media appeal rather than for truly outstanding food. I would happily come back for a beer, enjoy the patio, and spend an evening with friends. But I wouldn't return specifically for the food. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, that's the greatest disappointment of all.

Over the years I have been to Oak Steakhouse many times. I got hooked on it when they first opened. Ive noticed the last two times eating there that things have changed for the worse. A few of the great menu items have been removed from the menu such as the famous flat bread they used to make in house and the tremendous Tuna Tar Tar. I also see they have risen the already high priced steak plates about 20%. I generally get the cowboy rib eye and have always told my friends it is the best steak ever. I can no linger say that about the steaks at oak. I don't know what has changed but I do know they have lost me as a customer. read more

Our server, Vanda, made this dining experience wonderful! She recommended our wine and was delighted when we loved it because she has written the wine list.
