June 1, 2021 I'd seen this place from time to time as I pass one of my jobsites and it always looked pretty busy so I figured I'd give it a try. When I walked in I stood there for a few minutes as the waitresses were cleaning tables and too busy to acknowledge me. I asked one of them if I needed just sit anywhere and she said "yes". She came to my table and suggested a $6.99 special they had written on the wall behind me. I went ahead and ordered it (it was chilaquiles) they were absolutely fantastic except for the onions and cilantro that I was not aware they put on them. But it was all good cause I just took most of them off). Good thing I ordered busicuits and gray because the spoon they came with was the only utensil I had to eat with. Before I made a mess with my food I tried to get my waitress (or anyone that worked there) attention for some napkins but they never looked my way. AFTER I made a mess with my food I tried once more to get there attention but had no luck. I finally got up to go grab my own napkins near the register. Once I went to pay the waitress charged me $7.99 for my entre bit I reminded her that it was the special. I took out my card to pay and she told me it was cash only and that there was a sign on the door. Only my way out the door (to go find an ATM) I looked for the sign and saw that it was a very small and faded sign that did in fact say "cash only". Timing: Breakfast has a different timing for me than other meals. Oasis does a great job at getting you seated, served, and full within a short time period. However, they will not rush you if you want to have a more drawn out breakfast dining experience (which would make it a pretty good place for those mornings after a late night out). My boyfriend and I went last Sunday before he had to got to work at around 11:00AM. There was a line out of the door. We were in and out before 12:00. Menu: I didn't really care much about the food menu, but checked it out for reference here. They had the typical meat and eggs options with some vegetarian substitutes thrown in. They also carried some lunch items (I.e. Cheeseburgers). However, the most important menu for me was their special menu. I got steak and eggs for $12 and a cinnamon roll for $2. Woot woot. Steak and Eggs = much better than I expected. Tbh, I was weary of ordering the steak at my typical medium-rare. After all, this steak was under $12. To be safe, I went with medium. I was introduced to this little breakfast nook by my love at the time, he lived right around the corner....and being the breakfast/brunch snobs that we were/are....I'd say it held up pretty well. They are SUPER affordable, POINT. The service is kind...the owner will coem upand take your order and fill your coffee herself. THey attack it in the Team fashion...I'm a fan of that..less likely to sit there with no coffee. IT can be pretty crowded though...it's first ocme first serve on tables....so be prepared to possibly wait a few minutes before gettig to sit down. To me...thats a sign of taty food...so I dont mind! Coffee is hot and hits the spot! I love their Miga's and breakfast tacos..SO good....the pork chops and eggs were only so-so...so I stick with what I know is good. The real breakfast dishes....with tortillas and sour cream...adn dont forget their salsa, it is spicy and OH so tasty. My BIG tip for this place....REMEMBER TO TAKE CASH! October 2007 UPDATE: We tried breakfast. I got biscuits & gravy. My husband pretty much ordered everything else on the menu + a cinnamon roll. The gravy didn't have that gravy "umph!!". I was so sad! The Oasis reminds me of my grandparent's favorite little spot where they would enjoy their morning coffee and the daily newspaper. This small diner brings more than meets the eye. Upon glancing at the menu you will notice that their prices for a fresh, hot meal are hard to beat. I could easily eat a hearty meal with coffee and OJ and leave spending around $8 and that includes the tip! (Oh and bring cash... they don't take cards) They have your typical breakfast and lunch menu that includes some down home southern cookin' such as chicken fried steak & eggs and also some Tex-Mex dishes for those who like it spicy. In my experience, the service here has always been great and the staff are familiar faces, which I think says a lot about a restaurant. Any place that can keep a regular staff for years has something going for it. The decor is cute and quant... again, reminding me of my grandmother's kitchen. I forgo IHOP, Denny's and all those other chains because there is something different when you go to these kinds of places. It is like your grandma cooking you breakfast rather than a restaurant. I always enjoy my food here and my service. The owner is alway around and looking to help out which gives this place a level of integrity that i genuinely respect and want to have if/when I decide to open up my place. The staff are all super nice, and the food...Oh, the food. The menu is pretty simple stuff, and there's a dry-erase board above the door to the bathrooms with the daily specials (that's usually what I end up ordering from). I really like this place. I've been several times and wouldn't return if they didn't do a great breakfast. I always get the "Grande Breakfast" and it's always fast and deliocous. The coffee is nothing to special... Typical diner hotplate coffee. I wish more places put more effort in to serving "good" coffee. I've never met the owner, but she seems sincere and friendly to her customers and is always mingling. The crowd is a mix of older regulars, SMUers and newbys like myself. Went there for lunch and from the door it was AWFUL. The young man that seated us was quite rude and literally threw the straws at us when we asked for them. We then waited about 15 minutes before our order was taken. The food was AWFUL. There was NO FLAVOR AT ALL. The place is still pretty cute and full of regulars. I was there when they opened and there were folks waiting to get in. The waitress knew most folks by name. This place is pretty much the standard for greasy spoons. The food is good because they don't skimp on the grease and butter. The fried eggs don't get any fried-i-er! The prices are super. What pushes this place up a notch is how cute it is. You wouldn't know it from the outside but this is a neat little diner. Lunch isn't as good as breakfast and they do not accept credit. We drove by there a couple weeks ago and thought to check it out soon. After reading some reviews, it was time to go on in. The place is small and it is CASH ONLY. Breakfast was the plan and the service was kinda slow, but the older lady who waited on us was very friendly. The food came quickly...and it wasn't busy when we arrive, but quickly filled to standing room waiting in about 30 minutes. Onto the food...I got the GRANDE breakfast. For ~8.00, it was inline with a good cheap breakfast. One of the litmus tests for me is how much salt is needed and I found I needed it more than usual. While I'm glad the food doesn't come salty, the hash browns and gravy needed it. The gravy....I hope they find a better recipe. It looks so good, but really had no flavor. The biscuits...oh my, what a treat. Fresh, flaky, butter...excellently done. Wifey got the crispy tacos and loved them. The hot sauce was too hot, but the waitress promptly brought salsa and all was well. BOTTOM LINE: Good place for a cheap breakfast that simply OK. Not the best overall quality for a diner, but it's a diner even though the word CAFE is on the building. We may try it again and see how a lunch experience will be. read more

Mom and Pop shop breakfast, come and get it! It's a good halfway point between Plano and Dallas and made for a good brunch on a Saturday morning. The hostess/waitress was amazingly personable and figured that it was our first time at the establishment. She made suggestions off the menu - breakfast tacos, Mexican omelette - as well as pointed out the specials of the day. My friend and I decided to split a special - spinach, bacon, onion, Swiss cheese omelet - and definitely got our bang for the buck! The meal was served with hash browns, an orange slice, and toast but we switched out the toast for the home-made biscuit. They gave us each a biscuit. It was double the meal for the same price of $5.49! Food caliber wasn't a stand-out but I cleaned the plate. When I first moved up to Dallas Tricia S. brought me here for a quick and cheap breakfast and I instantly fell in love. My mom and lil sis were recently in town and my mom wanted to do Sunday breakfast. Knowing how crowded places get on Sunday for brunch, I wanted to make sure to take them somewhere where we could get in and out quickly. We arrived around 10 and the place was already packed (as always). Luckily there was one table open and ready. I do admit that it makes me a little uncomfortable standing in the entry way staring at people when there are no tables available, but they open up pretty fast. I think everyone understands that this is not the place to sit around and sip coffee while chatting with a long lost friend. Eat your food and get the hell out so I can sit down! The food is typical diner fare with a "lighter" section for the health concious Dallas-ites. Egg white omelettes, stuff with spinach in it, whatever... I didn't look at that part of the menu. I had the migas and they were pretty darn tasty. Very large portion size as well. There was enough for me to get full and actually still had food left over. And it was only $7. The prices really are exceptional! Then again, no fancy overhead in a tiny little place like this. Service is always fast and efficient, though the occasional smile would still be appreciated. Coworker craving home cooking. Me, not wanting to eat yet another Lean Cuisine. Off we go to The Oasis Cafe. I have been driving past this place for over a year, always wondering how it was. I know, I know, why did it take me this long to stop in for a bite? I have no idea. Decor is your basic cafe that has not updated anything in over 20 yrs. But I'm not about decor, just good food! Waitress, not nice. Not rude, just either not happy to be there or just annoyed that I had the gall to ask if she liked the pot roast that was one of the specials. Whatever. I had chicken fried steak. Tasted good. I don't think it is hand made there, but it was still good. Gravy tasted homemade, like I think I tasted bacon drippings....just like my mom's. Damn, that shit is good. Mashed potatoes, homemade for sure. I needed to add salt, but it was good. Green beans were the wide, Italian kind with small pieces of tomatoes cooked with it. They were really tasty. Came with dinner rolls that were out of this world and even better jalapeno cornbread. I think I'll go just for the cornbread next time, it was that good. Friends liked their meals too. I had a homemade french fry my friend ordered. I almost knocked her out so I could take her plate of fries and runaway so I could scarf them down. That's it, I'll go back for french fries and cornbread. Sounds like a healthy meal to me! Oh, they serve breakfast all day. And another biggie...they don't take plastic. Coffee is very mediocre and tastes weird so I drown mine with creamer. This place is small but cute. Decorated in everything chili peppers, it is my new favorite breakfast place in Dallas. Comfort food served with a side of love. If you don't see it on the menu or would prefer eggs a certain way, ASK! They might be able to create what you want. Homemade muffins and biscuits; a fiery salsa that's not for the faint of heart yet adds a nice touch to egg dishes. Aside from "regular" eggs, try the Migas or Chilaquilas. It's not fancy, if that's your thing. We prefer food that's great and reasonably priced, with hot coffee that's poured regularly by welcoming staff. And don't forget your cash: no credit/debit cards. My only complaint was that my pancakes were served with Country Crock; when I asked for butter, I did get it. However, it was frozen solid, thus unusable. I will be back. Do not eat here. It says homemade on the menu but some items are not. Out of 5 people who all ordered different things only 1 was happy. The fries were burnt and looked gross. I have driven passed this cafe many many times in the last 5 years and never stopped in. Today my fiancé and I decided to come in after running some errands. What a quaint little gem! The atmosphere is friendly and neighborly, the waitress Linda knows everyone and greets them warmly as she takes their order. For newcomers like us she spent some time asking a few questions and was genuinely interested in us. The food was really good- came out hot and stayed hot during the meal. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The potatoes were fully flavored with a touch of garlic. The steak wasn't too large and was about $4 less than most places. My fiancé said his combination omelet wasn't anything out of this world but he finished it so he must have liked it fairly well. The only thing I didn't like was paying $1.79 for my soda. I received a canned Coke and a glass of ice. I feel like if you're gonna charge me that much then it should be unlimited refills. That's the only deduction I made for my stars. read more
