My girlfriend and I really enjoyed eating here on a Friday night, we started off with 2 cups of tomato basil and it was lovely. For entrees we had "mannys taco" and chicken fried chicken both super good high quality white fish and chicken. Mash potatoes had very splendid gravy. Finally, the butterscotch brulèè was absolutely amazing highly recommend it. Excellent service. Staff was courteous and friendly. Went with the cauliflower, gulf shrimp, and pimento cheese appetizers. The shrimp were good sized and breaded lightly enough that you could taste the quality. Cauliflower was very good, and consistency of the pimento cheese wasn't overly cloying either. Entrees were solid, but not excellent. The chicken fried chicken was a little scorched/dark brown, but the mashed potatoes were excellent. The jalapeño gravy on top of them was the best part. I just wish there was a bit more of it. The Reuben wasn't the best. Also, for those like me who experience a deep sense of sadness whenever they are around, National Antgem serves matchstick fries, so beware (to those who do like them, what's wrong with you?/everybody else at my table liked them, so disregard this part). Obsessed! We've gone to National Anthem a few times & each time I was shocked that it wasn't a packed establishment because of how great it is! Every time we are there, we have the same server/bartender who is a younger gentleman who is always friendly & has a noticeable passion for the business. Upon sitting down, you have the option to look out the window at people walking by or watching a game on the TV but both options are not overpowering if you are just looking to socialize with your dinner partner. The place settings have the resemblance of a fine dining establishment without the "no elbows on the table/sit up straight/suit & tie" attitude. Regarding food, my husband's go-to is the steak & frites which comes with their specialty voodoo sauce which is truly the star of the show without overpowering the meat. As I am not someone to order the same thing, I usually order the pasta or fish special of the day and have yet to be disappointed. I hope I didn't just expose a hidden gem with this review as I still want to make sure I can get a walk in spot on any given night, but I also want the restaurant to get more business as they have earned their presence in the Dallas Food Scene. read more

Tbh this food was so mediocre I was thoroughly disappointed. Soba noodles salad had no flavor, the "ceviche" was quite literally shrimp cocktail with some onions and avocado, also no flavor and the chips were stale, both for the guac and the ceviche. nothing was memorable. The best thing on the menu was the popcorn chicken and they just tasted like chik fil a nuggets if that gives you any clue to where you should probably go instead. I honestly only am giving it 3 stars because the drinks and service. But 4 table full on a Saturday night at 6:30pm- probably because everyone else had a better idea than we did. I always come here with my coworkers, and everything--from the food to the drinks--is amazing. I tried oysters for the second time in years, and even though I'm not usually a fan, these were delicious, especially with the sauces and a squeeze of lemon. this place is CLASSY!! it always caught my eye driving past its most magical interior so we had to stop in for a drink! the midori sour tastes just like a jolly rancher, the bartender was generous and charming to chat with, and the pricing ($12-14 for a cocktail) was very reasonable for the location and ambience. the other patrons were chatty too and their food looked great. all around a lovely experience, great for an elevated casual date or hangout, with seating options for all party sizes and a lovely patio. First of all, the ambiance was 5/5, we went early and it wasn't too loud, such a beautiful restaurant with a huge bar and awesome neon sign the minute you walk in. The service was phenomenal, Rachel was exceptional and recommended some fantastic drinks, she was attentive and nice and all around amazing. The FOOD though - I got the pasta special, braised beef malfadine and I would eat it for the rest of my life. The meatball apps were great too! Decided to have a staycation down in Dallas and came here on a recommendation from a friend. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was really cool. Very chill. We came at like 6:30 on a Saturday and the place wasn't overrun with people. The staff was GREAT! We got the Cauli Bang Bang for an appetizer and it was SO GOOD!! I'm don't usually one to like any sort of spice but I was pleasantly surprised that the spice was tolerable. There was still a kick but not enough for me to hate myself and my life choices haha I got the Fish & Chips for my main and I wanted to absolutely love it. The fish was a little too oily so the breading was really wet. Everything else about the dish was amazing. Loved the fries, the slaw, the tartar sauce. If the breading for the fish has been a bit crispier, it definitely would've been a 10/10 for me. I'll definitely be back either to try the fish again or maybe try something else on the menu. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - National Anthem's is located in a very cool wedge building in downtown Dallas where Commerce and Jackson St. meet. The entrance is at the front of the wedge where you'll find some outdoor seating. Inside, you'll walk into an impressive bar with lounge seating on the sides. It's bright and white on the inside, very busy, and full of energy. 1 Star. Service - All servers at Nick Badovinus's restaurants are expertly trained. There are many off menu items, which our server shared in detail from memory. They are a team that works together, running out food, clearing dishes, or checking up on us. Outstanding. 1 Star. Came here on a whim on a Sunday evening. It was fairly busy for a restaurant that has been open only for 10 days. I would describe the restaurant as casual fine dining. The ambiance is more casual but the food have flavor profiles that you would get at most fine dining establishments. Every dish was well executed and flavor was definitely not lacking. We had the prime burger (brisket and short rib), Reuben, ribeye asada nachos, vodka rigatoni, pork chop and tuna on a toast. Everyone's favorite would be the vodka rigatoni and we would definitely return for it. I appreciate that the pork chop came on a bed of roasted corn and coleslaw, so you didn't have to pay extra for side dishes to enjoy with your protein. The tuna on a toast seemed pricey at first for $17 but they added enough tuna to make it reasonable. They are planning to add a rooftop to the third floor and a happy hour menu, so definitely can't wait to return for that. Wish parking was a little easier if you are not wanting to valet. read more

We came here for a friends birthday and they were nice enough to accommodate a large party, where other restaurants wouldn't, so I'm happy and grateful about that. We ordered a round of appetizers and everything was pretty good. The bread service was different, but in a good way. The mussels tasted a little off though. Maybe it was a rough batch or something but it had a fishier taste than I'm used to. I ordered the tuna bowl for my entree and it was very light and flavorful. I'm a fan and would order it again. I went there for my birthday a week ago and they made me feel so special!! I used to get their vodka pasta all the time but was told it was taken off the menu. My waiter, he was so awesome I can't remember his name, went to check with the chef if they could make it from scratch. And they did! Decided to order lunch from here since I work nearby. I love that there are rolling daily lunch specials which gives you an opportunity to try many different dishes. The fella on the phone was kind, thorough and helpful. The vibe of the restaurant is really cute - light, airy and open. The food was fantastic. I had to fish (salmon) tacos, which were topped with pico de gallo, pineapple and avocado, served with fries. The fries were tossed in garlic which were delicious!! I will most likely frequent this spot because it's conveniently close to my job.
