They weren't really social distancing or requiring masks. Full house but the food was terrible. You can not order your meats or burgers any way except well done as they say it is too much stress on their chef. In addition we ordered two buffalo cheeseburgers with all the fixings and received after a 30 minute wait. Plain overcooked burgers with no cheese or toppings. The extra star goes to the decorations. First time we visited Oatman. Friends recommended eating at the hotel. They have thousands and thousands of dollar bills plastered everywhere. Started by the miners back in the day to pay for their meal. We sat outside in the beer garden. It is very rustic. We sat at a picnic table and were greeted right away but our awesome server. We ordered the buffalo burger with a side of their homemade potato chips. Oh man! One of the best burgers I have ever eaten and those potato chips could be addicting! The Town of Oatman is a former gold rush town that traces its unique history to the late 1800s. It is a gold rush town off that looks unchanged since its mining era. In the heart of its Main Street which is the infamous U.S. 66 stands the Oatman Hotel. The Oatman Hotel dates back to 1902. It is the oldest two-story abode building in Arizona's Mohave County. This is an honor that puts it on the Registrar of National Historic Places. The Oatman Hotel looks exactly as it did when Miners ruled the town. Even the 1920 fire that destroyed buildings in Oatman failed to bring this hotel down. After the inside was rebuilt it was business as usual. Close to two decades further in 1939 when Clark Gable and Carole Lombard tied the knot, they honeymoonerd in the Oatman Hotel. When it was a true hotel, there were 17 rooms. An interesting fact that I read is that two rooms were of corrugated steel. 75 years after Clark Gable and Carole Lombard honeymooned here, the Oatman Hotel is no longer a hotel and in my opinion more of the Oatman tourist attraction. The upstairs, where the rooms were is now closed off. They are turning it into a museum. The activity is at street level where people congregate at the snack bar, lobby, bar or actually western saloon, and restaurant. Last Saturday, this is where I spent an hour of my life. In similar fashion to the Miners I travelled to Oatman to strike gold. The gold I was mining was an experience that fills my life with adventure and lifetime memories. This past Saturday was my second visit to the Oatman Hotel. In 2011, I mistook the bar for a rowdy bar, and passes over hanging out there. In 2014, I am a different person that was up for a couple of drinks. I had just driven to Oatman from Las Vegas and wanted to experience all these places at the same time I did not want to rush the Town of Oatman. So a couple of drinks would keep me away from the car and I could take my time. Out of familiarity, I took the last stool in the bar and ordered a Budweiser draft. I appreciated that they only charge $3.50 for a draft beer. They could easily rip off the tourists. As I am drinking the Budweiser, I am looking all over the bar. Directly in front of me I glance at a menu of these cocktails with unique names fitting of the Burros that took over the town. The $6 cocktails include Oatman Punch, Blushing Burro, Pink Lizard, Snake Bite, and DonkeyPee. DonkeyPee!? Drinking this would be an interesting experience. Too bad there was zero Verizon service to do a public check-in. I asked the outgoing and friendly bartender Michelle if the DonkeyPee is any good. She let fall that it is one of her favorite drinks. I'd extend my time in the Oatman Hotel drinking the DonkeyPee which is Parrot Bay coconut rum, sour mix, and club soda. It was a tasty drink that wasn't too heavy on the alcohol. Looking at the walls, I saw that $1 bills obliterated them. The $1 bills covering the walls is a tradition that goes back to the mining era when a $1 bill was worth so much more than the yelping era. And what the miners did when they got paid was put a $1 on the wall with their name. This was kind of like a tab. This tradition continues today. The problem is they are running out of room and the hotel prohibits $1 bills on the antiques. So now people are putting $1 bills over $1 bills. This is more interesting than the names of the drinks. And what is most interesting is that the Oatman hotel is rumored to be haunted. There are people that believe that Clark Gable's and Carole Lombard's ghost with Oatie the Ghost hang out upstairs in the room. So this adds another dimension to the mystique of the hotel. If your interested in this subject, YouTube and the World Wide Web have some interesting stuff. Personally I could care less. On this subject, in 2011 I felt a creepy vibe when I looked upstairs at the closed off hotel. Most likely it was just the feeling of looking at a dark hotel. This past visit, the workers hammering away upstairs took away that feeling. The Oatman Hotel is without doubt an interesting place. Although I didn't check-in to a room (not an active hotel), I checked in to an adventure that I will remember for a lifetime. read more

The town itself was fun and we loved the burrows and the shops and the food was OK at one restaurant. If we were to simply pass through we would have given it 5 stars, but because we made reservations to stay overnight at the cabin, it was more than pleasant. First of all we paid with tax $158.00, which is more than most hotels we stay at and those come with great amenities. I made reservations over the phone and there was no confirmation number and no email receipt. Apparently they can run your credit card just fine but they claim no internet anywhere in town. The General Store we checked in at was confusing and we waited for the cashier to wait on everyone making souvenir purchases before we could 'check-in'. Then we had to wait again on another employee to be 'available' to drive up the hill to our cabin and us follow them, to let us inside. Thank heavens we had an escort as I would have made a u-turn and went back to the next town had I been on my own to find this place. The drive up the hill was unbelievable. I was glad we had a SUV. The view on the way up was dilapidated mobile homes that looked as though they were used for target practice and glass and trash were all over the yards and alongside the road. Not a place I felt secure in. The cabin was nice on the outside and at first glance on the inside too. We were shown the house and told No Internet and no Phone. There was a satellite dish for TV but you were lucky if you got the signal to stick around for at least 5 to 10 minutes straight. We then went back to the general store to get a few groceries as it had a kitchen, but once we arrived, the cashier said there was no store in this town and not even basic staples to purchase. With that we went across the street to the restaurant and ate. Not much to write home about on that venture - seen the dollar bills all over the ceiling and walls, OK. Nothing new really - seen this before elsewhere. With that we went across the street to the restaurant and ate. I looked at past reviews as far back at 2018 and they are the same exact curtains. Also they left magazines as far back as 2018 and the covers of the magazines were all faded from the sun as well. The sofa has tears in the cushions and the bed was too hard to sleep on. The one thing I couldn't get a photo of quick enough were the cockroaches in the bathroom nor the mice that left droppings inside one of the drawers. The next morning we threw the keys the table and left. We wont be back to stay but we may visit the burrows again. They need to hit the yard sales for better furniture and get a handy man in there to fix a few of these issues plus hire a pest control guy. read more

We loved it here! It's a two room building. One side is a restaurant and the other side is the ice cream parlor. They serve a wide range selection of food! Very impressive. It's a small (super tiny) town in the middle of the mountain. Packed with tourists (I think). The food was served by a very friendly exceptional customer serviced lady with purple hair. The workers all make you feel like family or friends - very home like attitude. The food was so fresh! Well, mine was. I had the spinner burger with onion rings. My daughter has chili cheese fries and my other has the corn dog meal. It sounds funny, but it was a very delicious burger and onion rings.. better than most places. The drinks had a funny taste. Maybe order bottle sealed? lol. The place is filled with dollars with writing on it from the ground up. Oh, we also had a corn dog that wasn't very appetizing. I couldn't describe the "off" flavor we had with the drinks on tap and the corn dog but it's not the same. I would most definitely recommend this place for dates, family, just passing through. Had lunch there on Feb 16 with a group of 6. If you have a group, and pay by credit here, they add a gratuity onto your tab. My guests wanted to pay the tip (since I was paying the tab) and left a cash tip, larger than the suggested amount on table, and signed I the tab. I zeroed out the suggested tip, and wrote "cash tip left on table" on the receipt. Our server, Connie came back, and asked why I had not tipped her. We pointed to the cash on the table for her. A couple weeks later, I get my statement, and I am charged for the tip! Called 3 times and talked to the manager, Russ. He looked at the receipt, and agreed to refund the tip amount each time. Still no credit issued after two weeks. Another conversation today, and he says they are looking into it. Again. Then told me could not issue a credit on his POS machine. A flat out lie, I've done POS sales many times. He said he'd check on it AGAIN, and call me back that day. Once more, never happened. If you eat here, watch out for credit card fraud. I can't say anything about the quality of the food. We ordered a burger and patty melt. But after waiting three hours (!) we finally left hungry. They were busy, I get that. But seeing how table after table of customers that ordered long after us got their food, paid and left and not being offered any explanation for the delay is inexcusable. Was a little disappointed. Been here a few time but being Father's Day weekend, they didn't offer what was on the menu. Service was a little slow even though it wasn't as busy as past times we've been there. Wanted the beef stew with bread bowl which they didn't have nor the soup. Friends had to get up a few times for a soda refill. My Chambord and raspberry vodka drink tasted more like sweet and sour mix and sprite. Oatman - you're one heck of a tourist trap. With your old timey shoot-out shows, and old west mining knick-knacks lining the old wood boardwalk. When you're sick of looking at the same touristy stuff head to the Oatman Hotel for a stiff drink and a mediocre lunch. Take a self guided tour of the hotel-turned-museum and take in some history. If you are here on a busy weekend, don't try to eat here. It simply isn't worth it. I doubt that the kitchen and wait staff can handle even half the seating capacity of this restaurant much less a full house. I also assume that the overtaxed kitchen also explains why the burger I ordered showed over cooked to shoe leather status. Oatman is a cute reminder of The West's mining history. Oatman is a small fun old mining town. It has shops and burros. At noon is a gunfighter performance and is quite entertaining. We ate at the hotel for lunch as we have several times before. The pulled pork sandwich and buffalo burgers are pretty good. There specialty is burro ears(homemade potato chips). It is a quaint little restaurant with the story of Oatman to entertain you on the weekends in the restaurant. Dollar bills from visitors line the walls for wallpaper. Then there's the spooky factor: Oatman is reputed to be haunted. The most well-known is Oatie. The wild burros, desendents of the pack-animals let loose into the desert by miners who went bust, will wander into the town before you are awake. you'll realize this if you have a room facing the street, and leave the window open. Not because of the noise, but because of the fresh presents they drop all over town. 2. You cannot make reservations on-line, over the phone, or in any other form of advance. It's first come-first serve. 3. There is no reservation desk. To get a room, you pay a $35 dollar donation at the bar (don't haggle- just pay it, you cheapskate!). 4. If by chance you're paid a visit by Oatie, and decide you want to spend the night elsewhere, the nearest hotels are in Kingman, which means navigating down a VERY steep, twisty two-lane road in the dark. Oh, and the drop-off is several hundred (dare I say thousand) in some places. and chances are, most of the hotels, motels, and flophouses will be filled-up. So make your peace with Oatie, before bedding down- if you're so inclined or hold those types of beliefs. 5. The showers and bathrooms are shared. Nuff said on that. So, if these five points don't scare you off, consider a night in Oatman. It'll be one of the most relaxing nights you'll have. read more

Well, I don't rate places based upon their stroller-friendly navigation (especially when dealing with a 100 year + building). Nor do I think it's a busy server's responsibility to push your stroller... So, for what it is, it's pretty good. Oatman was a quick stop for us, mainly because I wanted to see the burros. But, once we were there we were starving! We stopped in to the hotel and were not disappointed. Quick, friendly service, and better than expected food. The burgers were juicy and tasted fresh. I had one with ortega chili and cheese, the bf had one with bacon and cheddar. Both were quite tasty, buns were soft, lettuce and tomatoes fresh as well. There were two guitarists/singers doing various country classics. They had to end their show to go out and do a staged gun battle in the street. A little cheesy, but hey, they were raising money for the Shriners. Awesome. Plus, it's fun to read all of the dollar bills and their messages as you eat. So, if you decide to make the trek to Oatman (and you should), and you're in the mood for some history, burgers, and silliness, it's the place to be! One of the neatest hotels that dates back to like 1902 I think ~ In 1939 this is where Clark Gable and Carole Lombard spent their wedding night. They actually have the room so you can look in if you are lucky enough to go upstairs to see it.( If I can ever find the actual photos I took from upstairs I will post them) They use to have it open to take a walk up and look around. When we did it was old and the floors creaked and I think I only seen one bathroom which everyone shared. The rooms were just rooms you rented and you would have to go to this one bathroom in the middle of the night, It was a bit creepy just thinking there was suppose to be a ghost here named Oatie. I don't think even if the hotel was open that I could stay here. I just had a weird feeling the whole time walking around looking at the rooms. it was a bit outdated of course Neat old place to come in and read about it on the wall. My husband remembers when we went out one time there the beer was the coldest he had on tap and the bartender was so friendly,The place is oozing with $! bills everywhere. Stopped in Oatman on our trip through Route 66 and so glad we did! The wild burros that walk around town are adorable! We stopped for a snack at the Oatman Hotel - the restaurant is big and spacious - they even had live music while we were there! I recently took a couple of friends to Oatman for two reasons -- The first being the obvious: There's nothing like taking a trip back in time and visiting an old, historic ghost town like Oatman. No complaint there. The second reason was to visit the Oatman Hotel (which should technically be called "Oatman Restaurant," since the hotel section has been defunct for decades). Apparently, the Oatman Hotel is the centerpiece of the town and is noted for being the Clark Gable/Carole Lombard honeymoon spot, which is located upstairs where visitors are able to see the room. To our slight disappointment, the entire floor was closed due to "renovation." Judging from reviews on Yelp, seems like the floor has been closed for months. Not sure what there is to "renovate" (maybe they're adding a water bed, Flat Screen TV and a PS3?), but seems kind of silly (and lazy) of them to have it closed off, considering they openly advertise the hotel's affiliation with the famous honeymoon. Here's where my review gets ugly: I can't say much for the other food on the menu, but me and my girlfriend did order the "stinky" burgers (burgers topped with garlic), and we both thought they were the worst burgers we had in a long time. The patty was extremely dry and the bread seemed old (the bread broke as you bit into it; something you would expect from old bread). Definitely tasted the garlic, but overall, even the taste of garlic couldn't help it from being a super bland burger. It only made us wonder what their non-garlic burgers tasted like. Don't get me wrong, we weren't looking for anything fancy, just something satisfyingly good - all we got was something way below average. For the most part, our server was friendly; but then again, she did turn off the music a few minutes after we sat at our table, which killed the atmosphere (we were there around 4, they closed around 5 or 5:30). The bottom line: Definitely visit Oatman, but if you're looking for a decent burger, you might want to eat somewhere else. And if you're interested in seeing where Gable and Lombard had sex, you better call first. read more

Very good pulled pork sandwich and nice chefs salad. Place has a lot of character and everyone was super friendly, even though they were really busy. The town is cute too. read more
