We just finished visiting the Lincoln Museum and Library and were looking for somewhere close for dinner. We saw Obed & Issac's in Yelp and decided to give it a try. I had the lamb smash burger it was delicious especially with the whipped feta cheese. The atmosphere was a pleasant brew pub vibe. Other patrons were enjoying the spring evening on the patio. We opted for indoors. If we are ever in Springfield again definitely coming back. read more

This microbrewery had some really great eats and drinks! The exterior looks like a large residential home but once you round the corner, you'll see their side patio and enter into the bar area. The wait time wasn't too long either and they have a phone system where you'll receive a text once your table is ready. While you wait, you can check out their fun decor filled with antiques and millions of plaques lining the ceiling. Their menu had so many vegetarian options! I ended up getting a classic, the horseshoe. I had actually never had one before so this was my chance to experience this Springfield staple! I opted for the ponyshoe, as the full sized portion looked a little too daunting for me. I was pleasantly surprised with how this combination of foods complimented each other so well! The concept of a horseshoe sounded like something someone with a hangover might whip together in the kitchen after a night full of drinks, but honestly it was so much better! Their cheese sauce was a perfect amount of runny to thick and had an amazing flavor! The fries were so darn crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside! I'm generally not a fan of black bean burgers but this one hit the spot! If I were to change one thing, it would be the bread. I would have loved it if the bread was buttered and/or seasoned. It kinda just seemed like a vessel for the deliciousness on top. Non the less - the ponyshoe was fantastic! I also got the pineapple hard cider. I can't remember the exact name of it but it was the best hard cider I've ever had! So refreshing! The rest of my party got the Margherita Chicken flatbread, and Poneyshoe with Chicken. They loved them both! The hostess and servers were friendly and attentive, prices were reasonable, food came out promptly, and above all, everything was delicious! What an amazing building for a restaurant! I loved walking through the various rooms to get to the little side room with about 7 or 8 tables where my group ate dinner. I had the strawberry blonde ale which was absolutely perfect with the peanut butter, bacon jam cheese burger. I ordered the burger medium rare was thought it came out perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of burger buns, though I felt the pretzel bun was amazing! This was a great meal in "downtown" Springfield. read more

If you're in Springfield, IL, be sure to stop in at Obed & Isaac's. (Horseshoe), It was a Wednesday when we rolled into town. Rested a bit at the hotel and did some checking on places in the area to eat. I stumbled upon a list of local places to go and then came upon the signature local plate called the "horseshoe". It started a local restaurant in Springfield (no longer in business), but as many cities have their own creation favorite food the "Horseshoe" in Springfield. Now before getting into more detail on the horseshoe, I'd like to say that O&I is a restaurant "GO TO SPOT". They have 2 locations next to each other, 1 an outdoor beer garden and adjacent to it is the restaurant. The beer garden does serve food, but it's mainly wood fired pizzas and sandwich of the day (no they don't serve horseshoes in the beer garden) , (from what I seen while we checked it out), it all looked good! We walked over to the restaurant and sat at the bar since there was a fairly good wait list. The bar was manned by John and Sean. They are excellent and Sean is also an assist. manager of the location. They quickly greeted us and asked our beverage choice and explained a few of the beverage list to us. My wife had the apple seltzer and I had the Sweater Weather Stout. Both were very good. The apple seltzer was more of a cider taste and the stout was creamy with a nice hint of chocolate. Food; I inquired about the horseshoe and read someone say to order the pony (smaller version) versus the horseshoe . Sean thought I could finish the horseshoe, so after researching and suggestions by Sean I have the buffalo chicken horseshoe and the full blown. My wife had a nice pub burger on a pretzel bun a seasoned chargrilled angus beef on a pretzel roll with all the trimmings. Both came out in reasonable time frame and were nice portions, however the horseshoe was quite large. The open-faced sandwich begins with thick-sliced toasted bread, your choice of meat (or veggie burger), smothered with a secret cheese sauce, then topped with French fries. Choose from: Angus Beef, Papa Conn's Ham, Chicken Breast, Corned Beef, Buffalo Chicken, Veggie Burger, Turkey, Turkey Burger, Pulled Pork, Lamb Burger, Pork Tenderloin So 2 pieces of Texas toast with meat of choice smothered with a secret cheese sauce and topped with some good crisp french fries. I will tell you, it was awesome and the cheese sauce was an ideal blend with the fries, meat and bread. I DID NOT FINISH IT ALL - as much as I would have liked to I fell short due to my belly is full. But on the bright side our hotel had a refrigerator so 2nd's came with me. The Pub Burger was also delicious as described, the beef had a unique quality tase to it. Both to go boxes and it tasted almost better the 2nd day, kind of like soup. :) 2nd's on the beverage round, so I had a Upside Brown Coffee Ale and wife tired a pineapple seltzer again much like a cider. They will be opening a cider house specific right next door to the beer garden, hope to visit again to check this place out. Needless to say, we stopped at this location again the second night with more of our family. I waited for over an hour to get a small bowl of chili that tasted old. The waiters were nice but not very attentive.

We both had the single pub burger and fries. Really excellent burgers (and we are picky burger people). Fries were hot and fresh. The most amazing thing about our visit was the service. Out server was Daniel and he provided some of the best service we have ever had even though he had a bunch of outside tables. Nice going, Daniel! We were impressed. This restaurant has both inside and outside seating. Beware...the inside can be really noisy. The location is really close to the Lincoln home so it is nice to walk around those houses after dinner on a nice evening. read more

EVERYTHING here was phenomenal. First and foremost, our waiter Daniel went above and beyond. He provided exceptional customer service and I will never forget his energy and optimism. We were on a long road trip, 8+ hour drive, and stopped in here to get some dinner. We were all exhausted but Daniel lifted up our spirits. Now, to the food and drinks, I got the silly pants stout which I highly recommend. Usually I am not a fan of beer, but I do love chocolate and coffee and the beer was really really good (not too strong on the beer taste - which I like). For appetizers, we got the artichoke dip and the scotch eggs. For dinner I got the stinger burger with a potato salad side. For dessert we got the butter cake. Bad service, bad food; did not get what we ordered, only had plastic fork and spoon (could cut food)

I liked that this was a larger house. We had trouble with parking at first, they could almost repaint their lines. Service was friendly and we were seated right away. Many things on the menu looked delicious. I had the ground beef horse shoe. I got the smaller portion, which I like that they offer. It's great their horse shoe comes with many different meat options. I had a tough time deciding. I liked the cheese that was on it. Overall it was good. It was just way too much for my stomach to handle on a Sunday at noon. I liked it but I'm not sure if it's for me. For dessert our table split the bread pudding! It was delicious and great to split as a table since we were pretty full. There are plenty of things on this menu that I would come back and try! read more

We were in Springfield for the night and found this gem on Yelp. We arrived around 7:30 and it was still very busy--obviously a favorite spot for locals. The Horseshoe is a local tradition and is very tasty. Texas toast, a burger patty (lots of options here btw), and fries with a bechamel cheese sauce covering it. Beer selection is also excellent. We stopped here for lunch on a road trip from Illinois to Texas and it was incredible! The food was amazing, but what really made our experience one to remember was our server Shayonna (I hope I got her name right - she had long green braids!). I was exhausted, my husband was exhausted, and my 2 small kids were exhausted. My 4 year old was losing her mind because I only had a circle bandaid and not a regular bandaid. Shayonna stuck out of her and asked my daughter if she wanted to go inside and find a bandaid with her. She came back SO happy and Shayonna continued to check on her throughout our dining experience. She was so attentive and compassionate. It reminded me of an episode of "undercover boss" where a sweet employee wins a bunch of a money for being a rockstar at their job. Shayonna deserves that and so much more. At a minimum, she deserves to be promoted to manager. She is not only one of the best waitresses I've ever met, but one of the kindest humans in general. I had a local cider. I know they have lots of local beer on tap, but I tried their porter last time. The gnocchi stroganoff was delicious on a cold spring day. The servers here are always nice, and I like Springfield. Route 66 had long sections without decent food or beverages, so this is a good place to stock up. Gosh, recent reviews are all over the place! We were told the owners of our B&B were part owners here and it was very good (hmm) but the availability of an outside patio really sold it. We stopped by and liked the look of the place. They make their own beer so we both gave it a try. I got their stout which is very good. RRR got the coffee ale and was also quite happy. Dinners: lamb burger for me, fish and chips for him. He tried to order a flatbread but was told they don't have any tonight. What!!? My lamb burger, medium rare (although i wasn't asked) had feta cheese that added just the right amount of saltiness for the lamb. The slaw had a light dressing and tasted very fresh. RRR said this was some of the best fish and chips he's had. The fruits were hot and crispy, the fish was flavorful with a light, crisp tempura route batter. He is a huge bread pudding fan so that had to come to the table! It had a caramel sauce that reminded me of honey. Good but not as carmelized as i expect. The bread pudding was good but not great. We had to wait over 15 minutes for it but it wasn't even hot. So 3 stars here. Our waiter did a very good job, no complaints there! Definitely recommended! read more

truly enjoyed the eatery with small town feel and pocket friendly prices. We met up with friends of the family and there were 8 of us 4kids and 4 adults. Most items on the menu tasted good and hearty,were around $10+ which is insanely low by Chicago standards. Adults had a beverage each, mostly beer but I had their Riesling also a generous pour. Our Server was polite and prompt in checking on our orders. Certainly recommend Obed & Isaacs and we will find our way back here if ever in the area. read more

terrible service. terrible employee attitudes. young man host was crappy. bar tender was rude. it's not the customers fault when you are short handed. terrible management too. no soap in the bathrooms. Sat in the bar area for 1 hour with one beer. We ordered nachos for an appetize, never came. We ordered 3 sandwiches and 35 minutes later they never came. When I asked to can el our order and get the check I was accosted and yelled at cause the bartender was overwhelmed with being short handed. I spoke with the 'manager,' she didn't care. Then when I asked for the check for the second time the bartender went off on me. when is asking for the check rude? I would never return. Terrible service and terrible staff. A good spot for a beer and pub grub in downtown Springfield. Inhabiting an old mansion, Obed and Issac's let's you have some privacy and quiet as the dining area fills several rooms of the first floor. For nice days there's a patio. The service is good, quick and friendly. The beer is pretty decent, as is the food. Their Horseshoe is very good and the Scotch eggs are hearty. However, The chili was a disappointment, thick with oil that floated on the top. Overall, a good spot for lunch or after work. read more

Our hotel recommended this place so we tried it out. It was very underwhelming. Our waiter seemed more interested in what was on his phone rather then tending to his​​ tables. It took him a long time to come over and greet us. Then when we were clearly done, and had been for a while, he eventually came back over to check on us. We prompted him to take our plates and get us the bill. Another issue was that our 8 yr old son had ordered a side of mashed potatoes. His food came out with fries. We mentioned something and our waiter brought back mashed potatoes. They were very bland as were my husband's mashed potatoes (had bangers and mash). But our son's mashed potatoes were also spicy. Very spicy. They tasted like someone put cayenne pepper it. This was not just a hint of spice either. It was very noticeable. And very disappointing. When we said something to our waiter he was nonchalant and said he wasn't sure and would take with the kitchen about it. ... I highly doubt that. My husband's meal was meh. I had the glazed salmon and that was surprisingly good considering the rest of the food. We also had to ask for Silverware, otherwise our waiter would've forgotten it. I noticed another patron go up to our waiter and​ ask from silverware as well. The Ditzy Blonde beer was actually good. But that's the only thing that they have going for them. A whole other issue is that the wait staff apparently don't like each other. We heard them arguing about one or the other not doing things they're supposed to do, etc. The bartender seemed mad at the wait staff for not doing their jobs and said she'd just go do it because they won't. Our table was near the kitchen area where I could see the bussing station, coffee maker, glasses, silverware stuff, etc. Pretty sure one guy dropped a clean glass and put it back in the clean rack. I like the ambiance, service was excellent, but the food needs improvement. Maybe it's what you order. My friend didn't eat most of her chicken wrap. My salad was healthy but the chicken was in tiny chunks. The nachos were ok, with homemade puffy chips.
