Came here for dinner with a group of 10. The venue is medium sized with a good space to accommodate large parties. We shared a bunch of dishes for food. I would say that the charcuterie board with cheese options are the best here. The pasta was cooked okay but felt like the taste profile was a bit bland and portion size was on the smaller size. If I could put negative stars, I would. I did an online order for Caprese Salad and a Macchiato. When I received the order, not only was the macchiato spilled all over, but I received a BOX OF ROTTEN LETTUCE. It looks like it was clearly just garbage scraps that were thrown into a box before the shop closed at 4pm. I couldn't even call them to ask what the heck happened and why I was given a box of plain rotten lettuce instead of the tomato mozzarella basil salad called Caprese. Unbelievable service. When in midtown and you don't know where to eat, Obica is a nice option. The menu is limited as everything is already prepared. The sandwiches are fresh and the mozzarella cheese is delicious. I've comehere several times because it's across the street from my job when I first started coming they had lots of pastries to offer and the guys behind the counter really nice. Now, 98% of their food is sandwiches and lunch items. They don't serve really any danishes they'll be a couple but they get sold out quickly. And a few of the new staff (women) don't smile and seem SO miserable and have a nasty Puss on her face. Because of that I actually would stop coming here but unfortunately there really isn't any other place in the area that serves muffins or danishes or croissants. they didn't even have butter and jam for the croissant. There's a to-go counter where you can order, but if you'd like to enjoy a glass of wine, you'll want to get a table. Of course, we got a table. They brought some fresh bread, oil & vinegar to the table with some water right away. We ordered the Burrata al Tartufo, accompanied with Prosciutto Crudo di Parma & the Pomodori with two glasses of the 2014 Ochetti Nebbiolo d'Alba. Everything was delicious. The burrata was very fresh and we loved the tomatoes and olives that were served with it. It was also a generous portion of prosciutto & tomatoes to go with the burrata. Service was fantastic. They were very friendly and attentive. The owner even came by and chatted with us for a bit, which was nice. It was a very nice location in the atrium and it's perfect for taking a break from shopping to grab a bite and enjoy some wine. They have a nice selection of wine and a happy hour, as well. It is really nice to have a restaurant in your building's atrium. Since it's literally just an elevator ride away, I frequent here for coffee mainly but from time to time will order a breakfast sandwich. So I gave this place two chances because it came so well recommended by a local who has discerning tastes - same person who recommended that phenomenal Basso56 (see my review on that). It's on the east side of the Trump Plaza complex, so you are at the edge of the security bubble, but it doesn't tamper access to the place, which is on the lobby floor of the building. Open, airy place with lots of floor to ceiling windows. Service is excellent, and the servers are very friendly and good. On the two visits, I have tried the mozzarella sampler, and the troffie with pesto sauce pasta. I have also tasted the prosciutto/speck, and the olives and cherry tomatoes. So, there is no doubt that everything is super fresh. The charcuterie, tomatoes and olives are very good. On the mozzarella: very fresh, but bland on flavor. Average by authentic Italian standards. On the pasta: I was excited to see they had troffie (mispelled with only one "f" but that's OK) which is the actual type of pasta that goes with pesto sauce back home, and you can't find it at your regular supermarket in the US. However, the actual pesto was a disappointment. I've had pesto that tasted closer to the authentic stuff out of a glass jar from WholeFoods. read more

Came here for lunch on a Monday. I ordered the $10 tomato & basil bruschetta and a $17 caprese salad. My husband ordered the $38 grand bufala tasting dish. My bruschetta was tasteless. It had no salt or garlic on it. It was essentially a few small pieces of basil with olive oil poured on the tomatoes scooped onto one slice of bread. The amount of tomatoes was scant and for $10, I would have expected a lot more. The caprese salad was very fresh, however again lacked any sort of flavouring. There was no olive oil or balsamic vinegar given. You had to ask the waiter to provide balsamic vinegar to flavour the salad yourself. Then had to add olive oil and salt to the dish. My husband enjoyed the bufala tasting dish, but for $34 this dish is not worth what you get. As Obicà has many different types of mozzarella cheeses we had asked the waiter for an explanation of the different dishes. He was not very helpful at all and essentially just read the menu back to us. In addition, we had Hilton Club gift certificates that we wanted to use for the meal. These are essentially gift certificates that you can use at multiple restaurants. When we asked the waiter about using them, he said that we can only use one coupon at a time. However, no where does it say this. So I asked to speak to the manager, at which time the waiter said "the manager will just say the same thing." I insisted to ask the manager and the reply came back as, yes we were correct in that we can use is multiple gift certificates. Overall, food is overpriced, tasteless and with poor service provided. Obika should be a 5 star place - and although the 3 stars I awarded the place seems to suggest otherwise - it is actually quite close to deserving the full five star treatment. Ok, for this one - I'm going to roll out the full, long-ass, Yelp-style "story review." My story begins when my lovely girlfriend, Kasey, insists I check out the new Mozzarella bar while I'm visiting NY. She hadn't been there herself, but she had heard some of the hype - and wanted to dine vicariously through me. Convincing my Italian friends/hosts to stop by a Mozzarella bar was, unsurprisingly, the easy part. Unfortunately, calling Obika to make reservations was not. Finding the correct phone number was complication #1. Both Yelp and Menupages featured incorrect numbers. After some moderate to serious web-surfing, though, I finally found the correct number. Sadly, when I called it - a recording merely informed me that they were not accepting reservations at this time. Nonetheless, we decided to just head over to the place and try to get a table for dinner. Unfortunately, it turns out Obika isn't quite open for dinner (at least not on the night we stopped by). This is complication #2 for those keep track. However, there were a significant number of homeless people and similarly listless people hanging out in the lobby area that houses Obika. The only person of any authority around was a woman emptying the trash cans for the building. So much for dinner at Obika. Still, we would not to be deterred for long. Do not tell me we can't have delicious, fresh mozzarella: Yes We Can! (note: this is my mandatory not so subliminal Obama reference for this review. Get out and vote bitches!) So, the next afternoon, my friend Carlo and I returned - and lo and behold - Obika was open, and the homeless folks had moved on - or were otherwise forced to move on. Best yet, the food was delicious! Fantastic salumi - and delicious, creamy, fresh mozzarella. So why only three stars? It has nothing to do with the experience the evening before. Instead, I'm deducting two whole points because the service was just plain stupid. Our servers were incompetent, slow and generally unhelpful. One of them kept asking if he could take our salt and pepper even though the place had emptied out and we were still actively eating our food. Also, when we needed anything (more food, more drinks, our bill) - we'd have to flag down our server twice - once to ask him for something and a second time to remind him of our request. Both of the servers we encountered just seemed generally slow and unprofessional. The place is brand new - so I'm sure they are working out the kinks. The food is spot on (though a little on the expensive side). If the servers learn their jobs (or are replaced), this place will be a whole lot better - potentially deserving five stars. read more

If your a lover of cheese you have to come here. The decor is great the staff is great and sometimes you might even get a free orchestra playing in the background! Interior: Beautiful! The Stracciatella, Trecciona, and Burata Mozzarellas are all delicious, adn presented beautifully. The atmosphere is amazing, especially on a nice, snowy day like today. The Stracciatella is my favorite,it's more of a liquid-y texture, served with a spoon to put on bread, although I could eat this stuff alone. The other two are very smooth and almost creamy, so tasty. Of course, Obika doesn't offer anything exciting aside from the Mozz, but the Mozz gets them 5 stars. They seem to have improved their operations a bit from the critical first impressions, as the service was pretty quick, friendly and helpful. The counter is a cornucopia of food porn worthy spread of sandwiches, salads and fresh mozzarella. I found myself bouncing between the panini's, baguettes and crostini's, staring longingly through the glass display case like a bride-to-be picking out an engagement ring. Settling on a simple sandwich of prosciutto and fresh mozzarella, a chocolate/nutella pastry and a glass of homemade grapefruit juice, the total damage ended up being around $16, a bit pricey for the portions received. However, the flavors were beautifully simple, bold, and satisfying. It doesn't get simpler than the clean taste of mozzarella, the salt of the prosciutto and crispy bread. Love it. Unfortunately, the price range and small portions are way too decadent for an every day lunch spot unless you're on an expense acct. Worth checking out, but don't expect a bargain. It was a pleasant visit to an old favorite spot from my days when I lived in Milan, Italy. I used to frequent the Fiori Oscuri location 2/3 times a week. This location on Madison Ave is a bit of a far cry from the Italian outpost. I was met by a lovely waitress italian girl with a "bowl" haircut. She was super nice and spoke to me in Italian off the bat. I was sat at the bar and asked me for my drinks. Small bottle water, glass of rose. To eat I ordered a burrata with bresaola. It was all very delicious on my dish included 5 slices of bresaola, 4/5 olives and a tiny burrata ball over a handful of spinach leaves. Here lies my problem. The burrata was half of the size of the burrata I was used to and for $18 I was very disappointed. Rosé by the glass was awful tasting as well $10 . Ended my meal with a tiramisu $10 which was big but not the best i've had. This is subjective obviously but it was a ramequin with 3 lady fingers on the bottom and then cover with tons if cream. Its not Sant Ambreous tiramisu but its half way there. My lunch cost $44 pre tax and tip. Not worth it for the tiny burrata. I'll take my burrata business elsewhere. read more
