Excellent place for craft cocktails. Very dark and intimate atmosphere. It was our first time so we didn't reserve ahead but we were fortunate to get to sit at the bar. The service was excellent. We look forward to our next visit to holland to be able to come here again!

Ambiance is very cool. Dark and "speakeasy-esc" The drinks are unique and the presentation is great - we had the Obstacle 1 and the Buffalo Soldier - both were very good Service is spot on. We did not have food

We had a reservation for my dad's 70th birthday party tonight. And received a confirmation text. Upon arriving, the door was locked and the staff refused to open to door. We called and they say "Too bad. We're closed now." And wouldn't open the door. There was another group locked out as well. They also had a reservation. We were longstanding customers. We'll never be back after ruining this special evening for my dad

Very cool place, albeit expensive drinks. We are in town for our wedding weekend and met my fiance's best man and his wife here yesterday for drinks. Dim lighting - I had to use my phone back light to read the menu - but VERY interesting drinks, with fabulous presentation. My fiance ordered a drink that they smoked in front of him, and I ordered a drink that they lit on fire. I've been to a lot of fun cocktail bars but this might be the place with the most exquisite presentation. Specialty drinks are about $18-20+, and "regular" drinks (mai tai, etc.) are about $14+. Expensive, especially for Holland IMO, but the presentation makes it worth it. Looking forward to visiting again next time I'm in town.

I really like Obstacle. It's small, cozy, and dark interior reminds me of several places I've been in New York, but without the New York prices. Having sat at tables and at the bar, I think I prefer sitting at the bar. The chairs are comfy, and I really enjoy watching the bartenders make the drinks. And speaking of the drinks, wow, do they have a great selection of cocktails that not only taste great, but they also have a beautiful presentation. They also have a nice tequila selection, including several excellent certified additive-free brands. The food comes from the restaurant next door. We had the Spanish charcuterie board, which tasted good, but took almost 45 minutes to get. I mean, seriously, how long does it take to put some meat and cheese on a board? We probably would ordered more food were it not for the long wait. And were it not for the food issue I easily could give Obstacle 5 stars.

Excellent service and drinks. Warm dark environment with only indoor seating. Would love to have drinks outside here. Good food selection too but the spirits are the main attraction here.

Finally got to try Obstacle No. 1 and we LOVED it! Stopped by here right when they opened to grab a drink and bite to eat at the bar. They have a great selection of bourbons. The Obstacle No. 1 cocktail was fantastic and they smoke it table side right in front of you which is really cool. We tried the smoked bacon wrapped medjool dates filled with goat cheese and pecans with a sweet and smoky glaze. They were melt-in-your-mouth good! Also, tried the tiny Barbacoa tacos which were delish. The beef is super tender and flavorful with caramelized onions, perfectly paired with a crunchy shell. Delightful! We can't wait to go back!

Holy smokes this was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time! I stopped in here randomly with a friend on Saturday night around 630. They were able to get us seats at the bar. The drinks are so fun and so delicious and strong! We just loved everything we had. The bartenders were fantastic! Friendly, easy-going, and so helpful. The vibe is very big-city swanky. Dark and elegant. I didn't take many pictures since we were too busy enjoying ourselves. I had the no time to die, fantastic. I don't love bourbon but this was so well balanced. I also had the otra palabra. I love mezcal and this was one of the best mezcal cocktails I've had. We ordered a bunch of food and were able to eat right at the bar. My friend has a severe dairy allergy and they accommodated no problem The food was also all fabulous! The chicken adobado tacos might be one of the best things I've ever eaten. The flat iron steak and chorizo skewer was also unbelievable. We will definitely be back and I can't wait to bring my friends and husband here!

This place was downright cool. Much cooler than I expected. It is very dim lit and small.. but the service and drinks and food were all super amazing. Five stars easily. My favorite drink was the Planter's punch and I loved the papas bravas, lobster croquetas, and the Barcelona "bread service". We sat at the bar which was lit up under the counter and also being able to be up close and personal to the bartender making your drink made the experience 50x better. My friend made a reservation for the two of us which allowed us to be seated immediately. The food is definitely tapas style (from next doors Poquito) and the drinks are absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come again and try more items.

What a cute little place! Interesting menu that didn't disappoint, and the innovative cocktails just added to the fun. Would go back!

You can go to their website to get on the email list for the password each week or you can go to the host stand at Butch's and ask if there is available seating "downstairs". The two times I've done this, the host always understands. They pick up the phone and call downstairs to see if there's any open spots and let us go down there. There are stairs or you can take the elevator to the basement level. After you've arrived downstairs you can find the door with the black lock symbol and KNOCK THREE TIMES. They will let you in and welcome you to find a seat. They have a water station where you can help yourself and some tables and a couch and bar seating. The menu is pretty fantastic. I haven't had a drink that I dislike yet! The prices are a bit elevated but that's okay for a fancy drink imo. Hope you check out this gem if you're ever in Holland and want to go on a little adventure to find this place! Our bartender had been working here for a couple years, so he knew the specials and was quick with his work. A real mix of customers from a college student to a couple of workmates, our family, and another group of friends further back. The restaurant was clean, had nice seating and decor. The service was extremely slow--waiter forgot multiple drinks when they did finally deliver some at our table, requiring reordering. Our waiter did not express that the kitchen was out of fries to the whole party, and substituted rice without checking with the guest first. Unfortunately, rice isn't a substitution that we would have ordered for ourselves. The Caesar Salad, photo included, was literally only shredded iceberg lettuce and croutons. Menu states "lettuce, black pepper, Parmesan, Caesar Dressing". When the guest asked for Parmesan, we were provided packets of grated Parmesan. Certainly do not recommend this "Caesar Salad". Also had an order of Mac and Cheese, also has photo included, high likelihood this was a TV meal Mac and Cheese product. It was barely warm, and mediocre at best. Also would not suggest ordering the Boneless Wings, as they were overcooked and sauce was not tossed on them when served. Typically don't write reviews, but feels necessary due to our poor experience and disappointing food and service. I wouldn't suggest Tulip City Brewstillery.

Our waitress was really nice and overall service was quick. We ordered the Lemon Chicken and the Wedge Salad. The reason why I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is mainly because of the chicken dish. I was expecting it to be more citrusy, but I feel like whatever lemon flavor it was meant to have was lost by some sort of sweetness. I think the Meyer lemon butter made the dish was so oddly sweet it mixed in with the rice underneath. Overall, this dish was sadly disappointing since we were looking forward to something savory and herby but got what felt like a sugar bomb for chicken. The salad was good and loaded with toppings, however, I felt like there was way too much dressing that drowned the salad once it was all mixed. If possible, I would get the dressing on the side. All in all, great ambiance, good service and a wonderful location. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong things. Still worth checking out, if you're in the area!

No one was there but the owner picked up the phone and was able to arrange a great table for us right in the bar area! Walking in I was immersed in the moody and dark space, brightened by pops of red and other Asian accents. The bar is beautiful and the bartender was hard at work cranking out cocktails. Lindsay was our server, and she was an absolute breath of fresh air, clearly passionate about her role in providing the guest experience, and frankly, she made all the difference in our experience. It all started when she saw our boys sitting at the low two top and offered them a private dining experience right next to us! They downed so much sushi, I nearly had to take out a second mortgage, but I'd happily pay it over and over to see the looks on their faces at 5 and 8 again! To say that a core memory was made that night is a massive understatement, as we have not stopped hearing about this since we returned and my son even made my mother walk him back to the restaurant the next day just to see if he could say hi! She took incredible care of the grown ups too. Helped with menu selections, addressed all requests swiftly and handled any issues with actual regard for the feedback being provided, which is becoming more and more rare in today's industry. On the food, we ordered most the apps including wings, green beans, cucumbers, shrimp, and spring rolls, and then we added the crab noodles, yellow curry and a few sushi rolls. The cucumbers and green beans stole the show, with the shrimp and crab noodles not too far behind. The sushi was decent, but I found the rice a bit gummy and didn't really get a sense of each element within them. The wings and curry were a bit bland for my liking but the wings benefitted by the additional sauce with them. The curry needed a bit more heat, fish sauce, and maybe a hit of vinegar. As someone who LOVES Asian food, this satisfied the itch after mainly eating American food for so many days, but I'd realistically rate it a 3.5 stars, especially considering the price and value. I'd happily return on my next visit to Saugatuck and suggest it to friends too. Keep crushing the service game!

We picked this restaurant because it seemed to have one of the nicest outdoor seating options amongst eateries downtown. We also chose it because of the several relatively unusual menu options and a decent number of veggie options (though some items, we were told, could not be customized, such as Brussels sprouts that could be fried only in tallow). I ordered the Harissa pasta. It is a vegetarian pasta with a creamy Harissa sauce, onions, tomatoes and cheese (parmesan?). It had a strange though not entirely unpleasant taste: it was simultaneously sour and savoury, with the tomatoes adding some sweetness. I could only eat about half because the flavours started to get overwhelming, and spent most of my time figuring out if I liked the dish or not (verdict: yes). My dining partner had the flounder, which they were very pleased with. Our server was enthusiastic though a little harried. Quick service overall. I am not sure if I recommend this place for its food. While the outdoor seating area is very pretty, with great atmosphere, the food itself is not spectacular. Overall, better than average experience, though it is unlikely that I will return.
