So they were out of potato salad AND cole slaw AND diet coke. The gal that was cashiering had the peronality of a piece of wood and didn't apologize for the things they were out of. My mother asked for lemon in her tea and she grabbed 2 lemons and dropped them in the tea. Who the hell does that? My mother had to reach in her tea to retrieve them to squeeze them not once but twice The taco salad had the meat on the side in a black bowl so it looked like salsa. We asked for the meat and the girl takes the salad and then comes back and says there's the meat and points to the bowl. And walks off. Who doesn't put the meat in the salad? Not to mention it isn't very aesthetically pleasing like that. The food was good but the customer service was horrific. read more

Oby's offers some great food, serving up their take on cajun cuisine. Their po'boys are the main attraction, offering a great variety of sandwiches. While living in Starkville, my personal favorite sandwich seemingly changed on a week-to-week basis. You can't go wrong with any of the following: the roast beef, the catfish po'boy, the Philly cheese steak, the Around the World (which combines some of the different sandwiches into one), the Kickin' Chicken, and my all-time fave, the Muffuletta. A sandwich, a side of waffle fries or red beans & rice, and a sweet tea is a great meal. The only con I can find with the place is the price. The aforementioned meal will run near or over $10 just for a half sandwich. But my goodness, it's worth it. They apparently know what they can charge for this greatness, so they easily get away with it. read more

I like Oby's. It's good food. I have never had a bad meal here, although I have never had an exceptional meal here either. But it's not that type of place. It is New Orleans cuisine and bar food. I enjoy the alligator po boy when they have it. The jambalaya is good also. The bread pudding should be award winning though. It is easily one of the top 5 I have had, and I have had it at tons of the 5 star places in New Orleans. It outranks all of those. Come to think of it, my top 3 bread puddings are all in Mississippi, and not in Louisiana, where you think it would be better since they brag about it so often. Anyway, Oby's in Starkville can be a long wait on a college football game day. You have to wait in line to order at a counter. They could easily have a hostess and seat you with a menu to cut your visit time down in half. That should be easy for the manager to figure out, but they never try that. read more

Was in town from Saint Louis for business...and loved this place. The shrimp Po Boy was amazing. My associate had the catfish Po Boy and he loved his too. Potato salad wad very mustardy. Just know that going in. Also, there is no size of a drink. You automatically get a large plastic cup which you can take home with you. read more

I've eaten a lot of Reuben sandwiches, and Oby's is about as good as any I've had. They also have really good chicken tenders and fries. But honestly I usually don't stray away from the Reuben. It also has a nice, casual atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Starkville. read more

I have loved Oby's for many years, but the last few months it has been very poor. Yesterday in particular, I ordered a cajun roast beef with everything on it. It only had 1/4 of the meat and less than that on the toppings. The sandwhich was much smaller than normal. I tipped before I sat down (wrong thing to do). I could not get any one to help my sandwhich or me. I had been telling my wife that she would love the muffeleta.. She got one, no olive spread, 1/4 of the meat as normal. I have heard from others that they have gone down hill too. The owners need to wake up and get after the employees and cooks. I used to love this place. I will not go back until I know it's been fixed. This is the 2nd time we have had a visit like this this year. read more

Well, dang. Always liked Oby's. Husband and son went there tonight and their muffaletta was tiny and had meager fillings. I had a "to go" potato. I paid 75 cents extra for cheese which was maybe MAYBE a 1/2 ounce at best. Butter and sour cream on the side. For a big potato, they sent a 1 oz packet of each. I have a pic I can post later but bottom line is about 1/5 of the potato was edible as the rest was just plain, dry potato. Skimping may be necessary at times, but on sour cream, cheese and butter? I can get way better at (gasp) Wendy's for half the price. I would bet they wouldn't do this if it was a dine in meal. I would have sent it back in a heartbeat and I don't like to send food back. read more

I first went to Obys over 30 years ago and try to go each time I am in town. Recently was in town and went twice. The first time I had the shrimp poboy and it was very good. The side I chose was potatoe salad which was so-so. The second time I had the muffeletto and chips. Unfortunitely the chips were the best thing. Wont get that again because it was a big swing and a miss. Still I recommend Obys read more

Interesting little place but honestly, the food was nothing special. A bit of a limited menu and I'm not sure where they get the label of "creole." My wife's Bayou Orchard salad had no discernible "Bayou" attributes and the same could be said of my creole roast beef sandwich. An old favorite of mine. New Orleans style Po-boy sandwiches. I love the pepper cheese steak, although it's hard to go wrong with any of the sandwiches on their menu. The restaurant itself has a lot of old memorabilia hanging everywhere on the wall and virtually everything in the place is antique, from the tables to the pressed tin ceiling, to the tiles on the floor, although the building itself is not very old. read more

I've never had the stellar experience so many claim to have had here. Food is ok, nothing special. Too expensive for mediocre food. Had the oysters once, and they were so hard and overcooked they weren't edible. The sandwiches are fairly good most of the time. This is just one of those places that seem much better than they actually are, because folks here are used to worse. It's where the rich people in town go for lunch, so....meh. read more
