The Po-Boys were delicious! I loved the waffle fries too. I'd say it's good size meal for a lunch but it didn't seem enough for a dinner for us. We could have just been extra hungry because we skipped lunch though. Highly recommend. Please note that you do order at the counter when you arrive. You get a number to seat yourself after.

Some of the Louisiana/ Cajun decor which is all over the restaurant.

Good place for a dinner while in town. Decor is very Cajun/Louisiana and I think they own every Tabasco labeled item of kitsch located in a 150 mile radius. Ordering food can be difficult if you aren't familiar/don't find a menu in the entry line up area - you walk in and get in a line in a narrow corridor through which you can eventually see the wall menu but before that either you can't see the menu or there is a shelf with menus on it for you to look at. Line would have moved quicker if 2 of the 3 cashiers at the registers weren't taking time between each customer to check their phones. Man I hate that. We lucked out and worked with the 1 girl who was able to keep her phone stowed away like an actual professional. We each had the Cuban, which was good although it was done in a panini press and not in a plancha. Seafood gumbo and hush puppies were the sides which were good. I had a Coors Light which came out nice and cold. Overall good food and it was prepared and came out quickly, -1 overall for screwing around with cell phones checking Tik Tok or insta or God knows what. Hate that.

Then it popped up when I was looking for fast food places around here one night last week, so I went then and had a good experience. Today was my second time going to this location (third time EVER going to any Jersey Mike's), and I again had a good experience that I think is worth noting. Yes, Jersey Mike's is a little pricey, but the food is amazing with even better service. I walked in there wanting to get something different from what I got last week, and the girl who took my order was so helpful and offered a specific sandwich that fit my mood. While they were making my sandwich, the staff was eager to answer questions and was prepared to give suggestions concerning, in this case, the pepper relish (which was great!). "Oh yeah that's really good and would go well with mayonnaise." She was right! Again, I don't know if Jersey Mike's is new to Starkville, but this place is amazing and my new favorite place to get a sandwich (former fave was Jimmy John's). Their customer service is impressive and the reason for this review. I'll be stopping by consistently this semester in hopes that they maintain their high standards.

As soon as we asked for gluten free buns the man taking our order immediately started groaning and complaining about having to do an allergen free order. This already made us feel uncomfortable, but we continued on. Then the same man asked another employee to make the meal and they agreed until he told them it was an order with an allergy. This employee complained and groaned too. It was extremely disrespectful. Especially when I know my family members would LOVE to be able to eat gluten and not have to be selective about restaurants they eat at. We find a place that is SUPPOSED TO BE accommodating, but instead left ashamed. They also proceeded to tell us after all the moaning and groaning that they only had one gluten free bun available.... So after we were made to feel bad then we were disappointed because it was all for nothing. They knew we had two gluten free orders when they started complaining... go and complain in the back all you want, but do not sit there and make someone feel small because they cant eat bread and you have to clean the equipment. Also just to add, the tables were covered in crumbs and food particles. Someone's personal Tostitos chips and salsa were left out open on one of the tables. Mind you it's 3 pm. This isn't a lunch rush time. The whole experience was awful. We love Jersey mikes, just not this one....

Presentation/delivery: this was ordered several weeks in advance as a catering order to be picked up. I chose the specific salads, sweet treats, and crackers and chips. I understood that everything would be on a platter ready to lay out on the table for the meeting I was hosting. Sweet treats would be cut and arranged on a platter. I selected all of the specific items I wanted abd prepaid. Fast forward to pick up day. The order wasnt ready. When i showed up, staff was scrambling to put the order together. They pulled the salads that I ordered from the refrigerator, cut the sweet treats bars (although they didn't have any of the bars I ordered), and threw everything in bags. Not only I didn't get what i ordered, but it wasn't presented as expected. There was no point in ordering ahead--I still had to wait. Then I had to go to the office and arrange everything on serving platters. So completely frustrating. Outcome: will not return.

How about 1 hour earlier? Again, either bad management or lazy staff not sure which one. We opted for bar seating and had water brought to us while we scanned the expansive drink menu. In addition to the signature cocktails, there is a variety of hard liquor, an amazing amount of whiskey, wine, (both red and white) as well as an impressive draft beer menu. It should be noted that there's a whiskey flight for $20 and you get a 1 ounce pour of each whiskey. It looks like there are seven on offer for this special. We didn't try it so cannot offer any more insights on that. We ordered the January gumbo special"Baby Duck Gumbo" - mine as is with chicken and sausage for $9 ( interestingly with okra which is only ever found in seafood gumbo ... at least in Louisiana) and the other with the addition of shrimp for $5 more. We asked for the saltines to be left off as we don't like to waste food and aren't fans of these old school standards. We split the brisket melt on marbled rye instead of Texas toast and left off the American cheese too... yeah we're *those* people... the sandwich comes with a choice of house seasoned fries or potato chips and we ordered the fries. The order arrived together (sigh). I would have preferred the gumbo to come first, then the sandwich, but hey, my mistake I guess I *should've* said something. Of course, I thought it was common sense that it should come in two courses instead of altogether. ... On a brighter not the order came just as we had requested and was a nice presentation. The gumbo was hearty and had plenty of protein albeit more rice than I would've liked. NOTE: if you are not an okra fan, beware. Both of us are good with okra so it was not a problem, but they do have plenty of okra in this gumbo. My dining partner said to skip the $5 add on of shrimp because although they are plentiful, they lack flavor. The sandwich is a decent size and was very tasty too and we both gave it a thumbs up. The fries were still hot and had a nice subtle flavor. Overall we'd give this roadhouse feeling, zany atmosphered little joint on the corner of Old West Point Rd and University a recommendation. The servers could use a refresher on how to greet guests and checking on them at least once during the meal :/ (1 star deduction) Oh, hey, they also have ample outdoor seating which is pet friendly for well behaved dogs.
