I paid 5k in treatments for minor acne scarring to have my skin completely ruined. I came to Dr. Darji with minor acne scarring and some active hormonal acne. I was very clear that I wanted to have my acne cleared before starting the treatments and she explicitly said that she is confident that they can treat the scarring with where my acne was at. I also told her that I was preparing for my upcoming wedding. She performed 2 rounds of v beam and fraxel laser on me. The first session went fine. After the second session I began developing large cystic bumps all over my face exactly 2 days after treatment. The acne has persisted ever since the treatment and it has been a full month. I am reading now that the most recent data is showing that fraxel should not be performed on active hormonal acne as it can worsen it... There were many red flags with this provider along the way; one time she came in the room and asked me how my spirolactone was going, which was a medication that I was not taking... maybe she was confusing me with another patient, but for such expensive treatments, you would expect your doctor to at least know what they prescribed to you. If you have hormonal acne DO NOT GO TO DR DARJI. She is not competent in hormonal acne treatment. I deeply wish I had left my skin alone, it was in such a better place before going to OC Derm and I wasted $5,000 between the treatments and the products she recommended. The most upsetting experience I have ever had with a provider. I will say, her assistant, Celeste, is an absolute rockstar and an amazing and very kind person to work with. Not a good experience. I had a biopsy done and waited patiently for results. 3 weeks later, came in to my pre scheduled appointment to review results and was told they were still not completed. They said dr Darji would call me that same evening, waited glued to my phone but didn't get a phone call and had to follow up the next morning. Then was told Dr Darji was on vacation for the rest of the week. Beyond frustrated with wasted time and energy. I requested a copy of pathology report and it showed the pathologist released the biopsy results 2 days after the biopsy was taken. (So literally 2.5 weeks before my pre scheduled appointment) They didn't follow up or they misplaced my results. Either way, it's unorganized and unacceptable, especially when I was waiting for answers to a very concerning condition. I now go to RAD derm and they are beyond amazing. read more

I've been going to Dr. Lorrie Klein for 18 years. The results have always been amazing. Dr Klein never makes me look "done". As a matter of fact no one has ever been able to tell I do anything at all to my face and neck. I have recommended her to my daughter and my daughter-in-law. I came by your location at 5:03 PM on Monday, June 23, just three minutes after closing, because I had tried calling multiple times throughout the day with no answer. To my surprise, I saw two staff members still inside, stocking items. When I politely asked if I could ask a quick question, both of them looked at me, shook their heads, and walked off without saying a word. This was extremely disappointing. I made a special trip out of my way to inquire about a product (Latisse) that I couldn't confirm over the phone due to the lack of response. I understand that businesses have closing hours, but the dismissive and unprofessional behavior I experienced was unacceptable. A simple acknowledgment or brief response would have gone a long way. Very poor customer service. I expected much better. I've bought latisse here many times in the past and have referred many friends. I won't be doing that anymore. Please coach your staff on rude behavior. read more

Well, I have an update. The front office manager contacted me and apologized for her front office. She said that if the wait is too long to get in, I should contact her. I have been going to the clinic for years and that's the first time I have heard that. It might behoove you to let your staff know this instead of turning away patients. And to Dr Klein, I don't care how amazing your back office is. If someone with a history of skin cancer can't get in, there is a chance of death. I understand your practice is more cosmetic, you do proudly proclaim that you are the largest provider of Botox in South County. If I can't get my Botox, I just won't look pretty for that party. The wait to get a MOHs surgery on my face was about two months in your office. I found a doctor that specializes in skin cancer (a much better fit for me anyway). I was given a next day appointment and surgery was scheduled today. Cancer is gone. And I have found an office that is responsive! Makes me feel much more secure. read more

This place is a gem! I have state insurance so don't always land the most efficient providers, but they definitely didn't do me wrong here. I met with Paula Hoyas today regarding my sudden onset acne at age 36 and my visit was insanely good! I was in the waiting room for all of 30 seconds, met with a lovely MA (Sherie, I think!), and Paula was in a few minutes later. We discussed my acne or whatever it is, dove into the root cause and potential underlying conditions - she even reviewed my previous bloodwork from a different provider and ordered further bw - as well as giving an extremely thorough lecture on how acne is formed and how to handle it. She provided an efficient plan of attack and hella samples! She is also insanely personable which is huge for me. I must also say that her product knowledge is excellent. I had oral surgery last week and was having a very painful time speaking and they were super accommodating and compassionate about that, as well. The only problem I have is that I did have to wait a few weeks to get in, and then had an emergency and needed to reschedule and couldn't get in for two more weeks. Whatever. Fraudulent charges!! Avoid OC Derm at all costs! Not only did they remove the wrong mole on my husband's back (which required +10 stitches and left a HUGE scar) they continually charge patients for services never performed. I was sent a bill almost 4 YEARS after the "treatment date" full of procedures I never received. I spent a year contesting them but was told that since my insurance paid a portion that served as "proof" the procedures happened and there for was on the hook for the +$300 that remained. I went as far as to physically go into the office to see how these fraudulent charges could be waived, but was only met with threats of a collections agency being put on me. Dr. Klein has taken the time with me to make me less anxious but also uses different techniques so that it takes away from the anxiety. Janet, who is an RN, is the absolute best for laser treatments. She is professional, gentle, tells you everything that will happen, and doesn't rush. She's also very nice. Have had various facial laser treatments by her over the years, primarily for Rosacea. I definitely recommend OC Dermatology and Janet. read more

Dr. Klein is an award winning dermatologist. I went to her because she saved me from a melanoma years ago and I was pleased to find out she does cosmetic work. Having just turned 66, I was unhappy with my jawline and other saggy spots on my face. She knew exactly what to do, did it as quickly and painlessly as possible, and the results were...awesome. I am older than my husband but now am asked if I am younger than he is! She used several products and found me discounts whenever possible. I look COMPLETELY natural, just as I requested. I come on here to write a review warning of billing practices, and lo and behold, I see several other! Spin doctors with words when it comes to billing, and incomplete information coming from the front line in the exam office when you are trying to decide the value of a service prior to approving it. I'd like to add here that I've found everyone here to be very nice on a personal level, I have no axe to grind in that regard; I just believe that people should be warned. During my body check for skin lesions, which I've had many times, the PA will advise that the 'freezing' of benign lesions is not covered by insurance, so the client will need to pay. He indicates that the first 1-14 of such lesions is one price, whether you get one, or three, or 14....its a 'package'. At no time does he indicate that it becomes categorical at billing time, and that each type of lesion falls into a different category, even though its the same amount of time, the same process, the same exact product. Its a little zap, or a freeze. Get the bill, and you'll see that for example three were common warts, so that's a 1-14 charge. 5 more were "AK's", so that's another 1-14 charge. and six more of another kind is another 1-14 charge. So while the total is in fact 14, you will pay that fee three times. Never mentioned. I do not believe it is fair to explain a billing structure loosely one way, I make my financial decision based upon what I'm told--mind you, I'm not in this industry, I would not know what questions to ask, I need to trust the provider--get my approval, do the procedure, then a month later send me a confusing bill that is difficult to understand charging several times more than I approved when in the room. By the way, not the first billing issue, there have been others that they blame on having a 'new third party billing company. This is just the most egregious. This one will be going to court unfortunately. read more

Sean Davies is great and the office is extremely friendly. West Dermatology did not bill my insurance for my biopsies. I knew because of the ridiculous amount they say I owe. I have called Both OC Dermatology and West Dermatology twice each. Oc Derm office finally gave me a number to call. I worked for a hospital for 40 years and my wife is an operating room nurse so we know a thing or 2. I was once told (and experienced it) that 25% do 75% of the work and 75% do the other 25. This is definitely happening as this should have never been my responsibility to begin with. Still unresolved as I am waiting again for a call back after being hung up on. read more

I've called and left messages on successive days and apparently the office is not staffed. Maybe the office is now remote. Sort of difficult to treat remotely. Time to find a new dermatologist. My daughter was getting married and I wanted to look my best. I went to OC dermatology for the cool sculpting procedure on my lower stomach to tighten the stubborn small pooch I had on my lower stomach. It did not work! I was told I was the perfect candidate because I was thin and the procedure was perfect for me. Not only did it not work, I look worse! Don't spend your money or time. I went in for Vbeam laser (which I've had done many times at different places where I used to live). Vbeam is a wonderful treatment for red marks, little veins etc and I've never ever had a bad reaction after probably 20 past treatments. Janet treated me and although she may have many happy clients the treatment left me with severe bruises on my face that are very upsetting. I believe she didn't use the right settings and I pray these hideous marks go away soon. She said I'd get a good result but these marks are beyond acceptable. It's been 48 hours and they are really really bad. This is not a normal reaction to Vbeam and shouldn't happen. I will not go back and also had super bad vibes from the front desk staff. The staff has been friendly each time, but two years in a row I have received erroneous bills. I was concerned about a bill last year and checked my insurance claims and what my insurance said I owed was my copay which I paid at my appointment. So I called and the billing dept want to happy about my catching their mistake but fixed it. This year I got another bill after paying my copays and although the lady in billing was much friendlier and admitted their mistake was putting the what they are expecting from insurance in the patient responsibility line, it's hard to go back when it's happened 2 years in a row. How many people get their bill and just pay it without matching it up to their claims on their insurance site. I do accounting for a living, their statements are hard to follow if you don't know what you are looking at. They really need to fix their billing issues. read more

I came to OC Derm because I was told they were a preferred provider in my network. All I have to say is make sure your insurance covers your visit because this office will nickel and dime you for everything. I was in for a check-up, and they billed me an additional $ 210 for the normal "freezing" that every dermatologist does during an office visit. They also told me that lab work for a biopsy would be $ 175, and it ended up being $ 375. When you check out of their office, they have women there trying to upsell you on pills and other nonsense. I would recommend going elsewhere unless you have plenty of cash to burn, or have insurance that you can verify ahead of time will cover the full expense of their line items because they will charge you for everything. read more

I am so utterly disappointed in this office. This morning I brought my sweet friends in for an appointment. Mind you this couple is in their 90's. They were greeted with sour, cold, irritated tones. I can't say enough about Dr. Klein. She is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in her craft. Being new to cosmetic dermatology, I was suuuuper nevous. Although I wanted to look my best at my wedding, I was scared I would look fake. Dr. Klein is confident, composed and knowledgeable and immediately put me at ease.
