I've lived in Cape May County my whole life. I've walked past this place a gazillion times and thought- how pretty- but never stopped. We had a date night and didn't know where to go. I googled and Aleathea's popped up. We looked at the menu and decided to give it a go. We are so VERY glad we did. We walked in around 7:45 and were told it would be 15 minutes for a table. We went to the beautiful bar and ordered drinks. A few sips in and our table was ready. Our server greeted us promptly with a bottle of water. We decided on the ahi tuna appetizer, the crab cake entree, and the Cajun red snapper entree. All of it was delicious. The tuna was sesame seared rare with delicious sauces and a seaweed and ginger salad. The snapper was seasoned perfectly with a crab and tomato beurre blanc over whipped potatoes with spinach and micro greens. The crab cake was excellent with a roasted red pepper coulis. Tables around us had dessert, which looked fabulous. We just didn't have room. We felt everything was fairly priced and service was excellent. We will be back. read more

I have never had a worse experience with a bartender than I did at Aleathea's. Jennifer made a hostile, judgmental comment to my friend who asked for a specific vodka in her drink. It was, needless to say, surprising and uncalled for. She then acted so put out by our being at the bar, and indicated that she could not take a food order because the "printer wasn't working". We got out of there quickly. Interestingly, we met up with other people who had been sitting at the bar and they had had equally bad experiences. The kind of service you receive in a bar/restaurant can make or break your experience. Jennifer treated us badly, made us feel very unwelcome, and made it clear that this is not a place you want to spend your time or money. read more

I stopped into Aleathea's for lunch and would not miss revisiting when back in town. The hostess was incredibly warm and welcoming and the food was above reproach. From the large, fresh shrimp cocktail, to the perfectly done calamari, to some of the best fish tacos I've had, everything was incredibly classy and delicious. For those that might like a drink, they have a whole list of specialty drinks featuring the local Nauti Brewery. All around 5-star experience. read more

Aleathea's is a five star restaurant. The decor, ambience, service and most importantly, the food are impeccable. It was 6:30 in the middle of the week and we didn't have a reservation (high season in late August). Other restaurants couldn't take us until later but we secured a table here at the time we wanted to eat. The oceanfront dining room was classic Victorian in decor and the ambience was classy and pleasant. The food was five star. My husband had a seafood risotto dish, I had a scallop dish and the kids had traditional pasta and chicken fingers. Someone else had the raw oysters and she said they were top notch (I don't eat raw bar so I can't judge). Everything was excellent, including the wine selection. This is a great choice for a nice dinner when you are in Cape May. read more

We stumbled upon Aleathea's Friday night when exploring Cape May. We were looking for a dinner place and the menu looked inviting. We put our names in for a reservation and started to walk down the boardwalk when the sky opened up. We did a quick about face and sat on the porch for Aleathea's Happy Hour! The drinks were CHEAP. The service was fabulous. And they had live music. After sitting outside for a little over an hour, we migrated inside for dinner. We started off with the crab curry soup and garden salad. Both were tasty. The soup could've had more oomph (for me personally), but it had a nice heat to it and my husband gobbled it up. For dinner, I had the fish tacos (with blackened mahi mahi) and the hubs had the lobster burger. The fish tacos were OUTSTANDING. The salsa had a nice heat to it and the fish was cooked perfectly. It had so much flavor. Mmmm. Our server was attentive and offered great suggestions. Our only regret is not going back Saturday. ;-) read more

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. My fiancé and I left with a $60 dent in our wallet and total disgust. We spent a day in cape may and had hoped for a fun lunch date. We got the opposite. When we sat down, everything seemed okay, but the meal and service got progressively worse. We ordered the falafel as an appetizer. It was extremely dry--fell apart into crumbles. Overall, it was completely inedible. We ate a few bites and didn't want to waste more calories. When I was delivered my glass of wine, which was initially forgotten by the server for a while, it had a nice fly floating in it. When I pointed it out to the server, she asked "where?" in an accusatory tone and laughed when she saw it. A simple "sorry" would have been nice. When our food came, my fiancé was served a dry mahi sandwich on stale rye bread. My Mediterranean chicken sandwich was decent at first, but then I discovered a hair which was quite obviously not mine. Meanwhile, the server completely disappeared after dropping the food off. We had no chance to ask for ketchup or a refill for our drinks. As a side note, the restaurant had only 2 other tables of customers. It seemed like the server was having a good time with her co-workers rather than actually helping us. When she finally returned, we asked for our check. She asked "How was everything, good? Right?" She didn't really bother to listen to our actual response. We work extremely hard and we get limited vacation time. To watch our hard earned money go to waste was disappointing and frustrating. We went straight to the ugly mug for a cold beer and good food. We will not be returning here. read more

This is in the Inn at Cape May and is great if you're staying there and don't want to head out for a meal. The breakfast is pretty good. I'm a fan of the Belgian waffle and Grand Marnier French Toast. The jazz omelette is decent and has bits of smoked mozzarella. The dinner and lunch entrees are okay, but not extraordinary. The stuffed flounder was just a tad on the bland side. They do have a nice selection of alcohol including Belgium beers an Yuengling on tap. Overall, a nice (and convenient if you're at the Inn) place in Cape May. read more

We ate here because it was pretty much at the entrance of the beach and we didn't want to walk too far away from our things as we left our bags on the beach. We were seated promptly and the server seem friendly but my overall experience was that she lacked HOSPITALITY. I consider this a tourist destination. There was no hospitality to go along with it. I could have been eating at Applebee's in the town of"Yuknook" and get a server with personality. I asked for 1/2 a lemon and my friend asked for the other half... so we love lemon in our water, don't judge. She brought back 2 little slivers (even though I told her I would pay for the whole lemon as I know it's not standard to hand a whole lemon to one person) it took 2 tries and we still did not get 1/2 lemon at the table. I asked if the bun for the sandwich came toasted and she said the toaster is broken ( huh, that's not even an answer as we are in a restaurant) ok can you butter it and toast it on your flat top... She said "we don't have butter we serve it dry but u should have butter on the table" what, u don't have butter? Besides there was no butter on the table. The positive... chicken salad was tasty but SWEET. Chicken is not naturally sweet so why is it sweetened? Crab cake was delicious Tomato and mozzarella salad with balsamic was very good Baked bre in puff pasty also good. We decided we would have lunch somewhere else next time but if u decide to eat here I can only vouch for the items we ate. read more

My Fiancé, Bruce and I had an outstanding dining experience at this charming victorian hotel and restaurant. Our waitress, Dawn was so pleasant, informative and accommodating. She is a real asset to the restaurant. We even went back a second time during our 4 day stay in Cape May. My Fiancé had the pan seared scallops which he loved. I had the baked Brie appetizer which was fantastic and the whole Bronzino Fish which was prepared to perfection! Please note, however, that they will not fillet the Bronzino fish for you, so if you do not want to pick out the bones, I suggest you order something else. I would have it again though, if it were available. I suggest sitting in the outer room, if it's available. Go sit in a rocking chair on the lovely porch while sipping a cocktail and having some oysters on the half shell while waiting for your table. I highly recommend this restaurant. Very tasty food, great atmosphere. I was here yesterday and there must have been a lot of reservations as there was an hour wait and still some empty seats. Simple solution was to sit as the bar and was served right there and we had a view of the ocean where we sat and there was a live band there right outside so we could enjoy the music but it wasn't too loud. read more

After a hot day of walking the shops, we were thrilled to find excellent beer on tap. Just one - but even so, it's rare to find. Dogfish 60 Minute IPA no less. The bar was cool (with AC) and had a view out past its porch and out to the beach. We asked the bartender about NJ laws regarding minors. It was clear when the bar manager brought in his two dogs, and one sat ON the bar, that minors were not going to be an issue. Now that's laid back! read more

I came in with a party of 5 on a Monday night, and unfortunately experienced unsatisfactory service and subpar food. The oysters we ordered came out warm, and everyone at my table agreed that their entrees tasted either reheated or prepared badly. I ordered the Buddha bowl with tofu, and the meal itself was OK, but the tofu was clearly thrown in a fryer with no seasoning. If you don't know how to cook tofu it should not be on the menu. Additionally, our waitress gave us attitude when we tried to say that our oysters were warm. With a great location, we wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. read more

Can't believe how far this place has fallen. I ordered baked Brie - the Brie was melted on top of rather than in the phyllo dough. It was served with rotting strawberries. My salad was also not fresh - slimy cucumbers on wilted lettuce - did not eat. The bread on my husband's sandwich was stale. Nearly a five. We went in for 1 pm brunch reservations and were seated promptly. Our waitress was kind enough to bring over a bowl of strawberries so the toddler would cooperate. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my son and husband ordered the Lobster Benedict. The menu said theirs was to come on a waffle with a Bearnaise sauce, but it arrived on English muffins with Hollandaise. Minor infraction but it was disappointing to those who expected a slightly different dish. The eggs were a perfect 3 minute poach, the sauce indulging, and the lobster was plentiful and cooked to perfect tenderness. The service was outstanding and the hotel and grounds were lovely so that when we needed to take the toddler outside, she had plenty to distract her. 80 dollars is a steep breakfast, but it was so enjoyable...and the coupon for 20 off our next purchase eased the blow. read more

We had a great dinner and great service. We started with cocktails (a Cape May Cosmo for my friend and a French Martini for me) and appetizers. The bruschetta was AWESOME! Crostini, FRESH mozz, tomatoes, balsamic ... I could have eaten an entire plate of those for my meal. My friend got one of the flatbreads and that was really really delish, too. I really wanted a burger, so I ordered one for dinner. I had a craving for a good burger and this was pretty good. A bit messy, but good nonetheless. The fries were tasty, too (but the portion was small). My friend had the grouper and said it was excellent. We passed on dessert, but the options were plentiful -- cheesecake, creme brulee, chocolate cake, chocolate molten cake and ice creams. Maybe next time ... We really like the interior. We went here for a late lunch on a Saturday and even though we understand the kitchen was closing in 30-40 minutes, felt that the staff could be friendlier. Food was not impressive at all. Kinda "Americanized" Mediterranean cuisine. Worst falafel I have ever tried so far in my life. Some of us had salads, crab cakes etc. which were okay - but mediocre. read more

I used to summer in Cape May as a kid. I now live in Arizona and have missed the east coast. Well, coming back to Cape May was an unforgettable experience for me. Last week my cousin and I had the pleasure of eating at Aleatha's restaurant after a local recommended it. We had lunch and they were nice enough to let us sit on the deck right by the row of the rocking chairs. It is across from the ocean and a perfect location. We had a delicious, perfectly cooked burger with wonderful service. It took me back to when I was a kid. The Inn is beautiful and i will stay here when i return next year. We went looking for a simple meal to enjoy after a morning walk along beautiful Cape May's shoreline. Three miles under our feet and we were ready for a nice rest and a wholesome meal. Looking at our Cape May Dining Guide, we decided on Aleatheas. We did not go wrong. My bride requested a delicious warm Brie salad; field greens with chopped strawberries, grapes and croutons topped with thick and delicious chunks of warmed Brie dressed with a raspberry vinaigrette with broiled salmon as an addition. Thirsty, I quenched my thirst on a Cape May IPA, a good local brew. My hunger was satisfied by a very special Spinach Salad with candied walnuts, roasted beets, crisp bacon, caramelized onions and goat cheese with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I selected falafel from their additions list. Serendipity, or rather Aleathea's chef tossed it together for a wonderful meal. The spinach was fresh as were the fruits and cheese. But herein is the prize: the felafel was the most unique and savory I've ever had. I'm from New York City and have had felafel from quite a few kitchens and food trucks. I've never had it quite like this. After inquiring with Aleathea's chef, I did some research of felafel recipes on the internet, comparing their ingredients to his list, which he graciously provided. After a brief survey I found no recipe that used cardamom, related to ginger, and, Man, what a savory and uniquely delicious felafel they created. My next attempt to make it at home will be inspired by my lunch at Aleathea's. They have a varied and extensive menu featuring seafood as well as burgers, filet mignon, chicken, salads, an extensive beer list and a kids menu. Service was friendly and attentive. Cape May is becoming a fave of my bride and I. Aleathea's restaurant will be on our list of "got to go back" places. read more

Grilled Shrimp Tacos were delicious. All the ingredients were fresh shrimp was cooked to perfection slightly black on the bottom. Presentation was good and was all seasoned to perfection. Seating was relaxing sitting out on the Victorian style porch. Service was quick and polite other customers were friendly. All in all fantastic experience will be back. read more

We love sitting on the porch rockers for meals at Aleathea's! Ahi tuna app, coconut shrimp and crab salad are our favorites. I have never been to Cape May before today and I'll say that this place is a real gem. The seafood is incredible. I have a half-avocado special filled with crab meat and tomato; for dinner, I had a fried flounder sandwich. The desert was even incredible (chocolate peanut butter cake). The wait staff Melissa was so warm, knowledgeable about the cuisine and made us feel welcome. More people need to go here. read more

While vacationing in Cape May, my husband and I went here. We were pleasantly surprised with amazing service and a table outside with a view that you can't beat. My husband had oysters as an appetizer. The cold oysters were served on a cold plate while the fried oysters served on a hot plate. This impressed him. I had a french onion soup which was decent. We both ordered fish entrees. They were both tasty but we ordered the "small" portion and they were gigantic. Still too big in my opinion even without appetizers. Normally I would be happy to take delicious leftovers home, but while on vacation - it just feels wasteful. We had the PB&J bread pudding for dessert which was EH. We also drank a bunch of liquor. I had the lime ricky. My husband went from martini's to beer. Overall, a very pleasant experience with delicious food and great service. Highly recommend. read more

Lucky us, our little Cape May vaca fell on restaurant week! This place hit the spot. It's a darling setting that truly encompasses the Cape May vibe, so as a Cape May first timer, we couldn't ask for more. The service was second to none and the food was delicious. I suggest the Mac and Cheese and the Grouper and definitely GET DESSERT! Wine list was great, but I did think it was odd that they didn't have local wines. It's a touristy town, promote within! Having some Cape May Winery choices would have been nice. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. read more

This is the fine dining place in Cape May. The menu was diverse and a bit on the "foodie" side of things. I had the prok medallions which were very tasty but a tad overcooked and tough. The risotto was nice and the over all ambiance of the place was very pleasant with a view of the ocean from our table. One of the nice things about the menu is that they offer a smaller portion of their offerings for a slightly lower price. It's a great idea if you're willing to pay and you're not that hungry. Better than having all that food go to waste. I'm not sure I would go as far as giving this place 5 stars but if good food, great location and an attentive staff are what you're looking for, this is the place. read more

Our visit to Aleathea's was intended to be a family dinner, a little more quiet than loud, to celebrate an 80th birthday. We had a group of 7 so could only be seated in the larger dining room rather than the porch. Unfortunately, there was a wedding ongoing in the room adjacent and the DJ was spinning techno tunes for the duration of the evening. This was very disappointing and seriously conflicted with our plans. It's a great example of restaurants in Cape May trying to be all things at the same time and in the same space. You can't have a nice dinner next to a wedding. I chose this restaurant over others nearby due to their wheelchair accessibility, which I really appreciate and dinner was pretty good (though the bar drinks took too long to arrive), but I'll think twice about coming here again. read more

Not amazing, but not too bad either. Service is really good and the early bird special is amazing, get there at 5 on the dot. Make sure you make reservations. The clam chowder is really good. The 'baked brie' is brie melted on toast covered in jam. Not what we were expecting. I had the mahi with mango chutney, it was good, with a nice portion. My girlfriend had the grouper with crabmeat, THIS IS THE DISH TO GET! It's a TON of food! The included desert was previously frozen, but still tasty. Come for the view, food is ok. read more

Food here is excellent and a very unique menu. We stayed for one night only but loved the pre fix early bird special. Unfortunately there was a black out right before our entree came so we had an extra glass of wine on the house. The old windows were thrown open in lieu of ceiling fans while we waited for the storm. Breakfast the next morning was fabulous but the wait staff has a strange system for taking orders, however in general pretty friendly. Try the Alethea's omelette with crab, asparagus and havarti dill cheese. Buttermilk pancakes could possibly be the best in America! If we don't stay at the Inn again, we will come back for cocktails and meals. I love the purple bar. Nice and cozy with lots of atmosphere. read more
