Excellent sushi and temaki sushi joint, we ordered pretty much every handroll. The truffle toro was great, though hard to beat a simple yellowtail scallion roll. The mental udon is delicious and great for kids, and the yellowtail app in dashi was flavorful. I had the warm sake and my wife had the Whis-tea which was delicious and elegantly presented in a small crystal decanter! Take out from them is good but they don't offer their full hand roll menu, unless you eat in. The handrolls are the attraction! read more

Came here cause the wait at Kura was way too long and my wife need to fulfill her sushi craving. Very spacious, you can pick table or bar service we opted for table since we had a stroller. Very accommodating for kids so we do recommend for kids as there it menu was pretty good, karaage was on point. The lightning inside was on point as its a lightly lighted placed great for a good romantic dinner. While the rolls are on the expensive its was top notch (frozen but still good) Nothing bad to say about the food or the service, would come again read more

The place is in a plaza, so there are a lot of parking places. The ambiance is modern and simple, with a lot of bar space. The service is friendly, and we decided to sit next to the bar. We decided to try free oysters for the appetizer, which was a good start. Crunchy outside and nice and fresh inside, complicated by the sauce. I got sashimi, and all the fish was fresh; I particularly enjoyed yellow tail and tuna. I also ordered uni, but they only had the one from California, which is not the best cause of the aftertaste. I also ordered scallop sushi, which I loved; the scallop had a sweet taste and a nice texture. My hubby got great hand rolls; the seaweed gives that perfect crunch that compliments fish and rice. The cheesecake was a miss; the portion is extra small, and I am sure it was bought in some store. read more

Tucked away in the Red Lobster shopping center, the newly opened Ocean Code Handroll Bar offers temaki handroll sushi (natch) in addition to tempura, nigiri sushi, sashimi, udon, karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and more. For my first visit I stuck to the 6 handroll set menu consisting of salmon, yellowtail, scallop, crab, lobster and spicy tuna. As others have noted the rolls are made with real shredded crab and lobster meat, rather than the faux kani and mayo-diluted stuff found elsewhere. The rolls were made in neat thin cylinders with crunchy nori; they could have been larger but very fresh and delicious. My personal faves were the buttery yellowtail and lobster. I noticed that several other customers were ordering soft shell crab tempura, looked really good so maybe I'll get that next time. Yuzu lemonade was a bit fizzy and tart, a perfect accompaniment to this kind of cuisine. They don't have a liquor license as of this review date. Decor is spare and immaculate with a long wooden counter, calming dim lighting, dark stone floors and a cute mini Japanese stone garden in the entryway. The metal stools at the sushi bar were a bit hard to perch on but nice to look at :) Service was very polite and attentive. I was given a small menu and pencil, circled my choices and returned it to the friendly hostess. Nice efficient ordering system. I made a rez on Google Assistant and the sushi counter was mostly occupied when I arrived around 12:20 on a weekday, so it seems that reservations are a good idea. read more

Ocean Code has a lot of potential but there's much room for improvement. The good- spacious, modern decor, fast and friendly service, impressive bar seating, fried oysters. The bad - raw fish quality is low for the price, the "hand roll" design, no alcohol at the time of writing this, tea is served with tea bag, tiny portions. I couldn't get over their "hand rolls". They were basically uncut sushi rolls but with much less filling and rice. It's just a really poor design because the filling kept squeezing out the other end. Quality of most fish was decent. The scallop was tasteless and this was unanimous from a party of 6. Their crab tasted like they were freshly thawed from the can. I wanted to like this place, truly. But if they continue with these "modern hand rolls" where quality and quantity are lacking, it's a no for me. We left full...but we left unsatisfied. read more

It's no code how good this place is. The fish is fresh and the hands rolls are given out one at a time so that you get the crunch of the seaweed with every bite. I would highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for a change in pace when eating sushi read more

Beautiful space that is modern and calm. Music is nice. There is a free Yuzu Lemonade (OR Sapporo Beer) for reviewing. Food was great. The rice is soft, seaweed crispy, and the fish is tasty. Kind of wanted to gate keep this place. It's hidden with its tinted windows, but inside is a sushi lover's dream. Everything was so fresh. The Handrolls were my favorite , wagyu shiso and toro truffle. The toro truffle was truly one of the best sushi items I've ever had. I wanted to savor every bite. Super cute spot with chic decor and perfect for a date night. We made reservations but were seated immediately when we arrived. We sat at the sushi bar and had a view of the chefs doing their magic. Food was delicious! The hand rolls tasted fresh- rice was still nice and warm! Their creamy mentai udon was super rich and delicious! Although, I would recommend sharing as it was too rich. This restaurant has a nice ambiance and lighting that you notice the second you walk in. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered an assortment of sashimi and hand rolls. One thing we didn't like - too much rice was served with the handrolls. The handrolls didn't have much sashimi compared to how much rice was inside it. However, the sashimi/sushi quality here is very good. You can tell the sushi quality here is very fresh. The service here was very good as well. Pleasantly surprised by the food and the ambiance here. The service and food was great. They were really toddler friendly. The fish was fresh and it beats having to travel to the city from LI. We ordered the 6 hand rolls to try, 18 piece sashimi and some a la carte items. I had a grape cocktail which kind of just tasted like grape seltzer water which I could pass on next time and order another drink. The alcoholic drinks were decently sized. I would definitely come back for more quality sushi and try the uni udon next time :) read more

The food was delicious- all the hand rolls and sushi were made well with good amounts of fish and packed with flavor. Rice was perfect as well, not mushy and just enough. They're not stingy with ingredients. The wagyu and truffle rolls were AMAZING! The drinks were also nice - we had the whistea, yuzu shosijito, Ocean Code, and Doki Doki. The ambiance on Valentine's Day was low key and chill. Love the spacious interior and dim lighting, and music at low levels. A surprising gem in Long Island! Was not expecting such fresh fish and delicious rolls but I was pleasantly surprised. The sashimi was delicious. The hand rolls had the right ratio and were plated nicely. The rolls were also really good. We tried the walk sideways and a yellowtail roll and both were great. Pricing is very reasonable especially compared to everywhere else in NY. The restaurant itself is pretty cute. I liked the simplicity of the restaurant. Service was great. Our server checked in on us many times to make sure we were good and to check if we needed anything. There's a huge parking lot so plenty of parking. The ambiance and cleanliness when you walked in is nice, and the service is also kind and prompt. Keep in mind that it's 1 PM on a Saturday in terms of service time, so not peak hours. the yuzu lemonade is delicious. I ordered a ten piece nigiri set that came with one salmon handroll. the ingredients were fresh, but they lacked any real enhancements to flavor. No swipe of soy or lime zest. Just sushi rice and your fish. It got the job done but not entirely worth the cost o4 much excitement on my part. However I would def come back to get a yuzu lemonade for the road. read more

Delicious hand rolls and sushi. High quality fish, great service, calm ambiance. Theres a good amount of seating but it's more for smaller parties, 1-4 seating is probably best. It's not omakase but I find it reasonable for what you get. A rare gem for the island! read more

Excellent ambiance and service here at Ocean Code. The yellow tail was delicious. Nice selection of sake to go with the meal as well. Tempura was nicely fried and bettered well. Of course the start of the show was the band roll, specifically the toro scallion. The sushi rice had a great flavor and the toro was as buttery as expected. nice space, high quality fish, and good service. I ordered the wasabi steak appetizer, ocean fair special roll, and the Sashimi 15 Pcs & 5 Pcs Salmon Roll. The takeout packaging was nice. I like that they pack the seaweed separately to maintain the crunch for the appetizer. I have yet to try their handrolls in person but will give it a shot next time i'm in the area! read more

Came back to have dinner recently and I have to say a lot has changed. When I first came they served us very much like Katzu Nori in the city in regards to the simple menu with set hand rolls of your choice. But most recently, when I came for dinner the hand rolls now are in the cone shape. I'm not sure I like it better as I feel like the fish and the rice was evenly distributed when it was just a rolled up Handroll and in my opinion- easier to eat but none the less still good and very fresh. The menu has changed too. The set Handrolls are now part of an extensive menu book with loads of other things you can order from on the menu. All delicious! Regardless of the changes still a great spot for fresh sushi and handrolls. read more

She closed out three tabs for people that didn't ask, poured a beer for someone that also didn't ask, then came out from behind the bar to annoy a guy at a table on his phone and eating. I looked right at her and she averted her eyes. Not even an 'I'll be right with you'. What was this all about? BTW...I was the only woman at the bar....hmmmmm... Ex waitress, bartender, caterer and kitchen manager here. I got up, stopped by the manager sitting at a table doing paperwork, complained succinctly, and walked out. He still seemed confused so I guess that that's his baseline. His purpose there? I have no clue. He needs to train his staff better. Do know that were were only maybe 5 or 6 other people in the entire restaurant at the time. Japanese curries are not spicy, they tend to be a bit sweeter because of carrots and usually grated apple or honey for sweetness. The balance on that sauce was spot on perfect. The Kaarage (Japanese Fried Chicken thighs) was the perfect match for this curry. Exceptional!!! My wife got the fresh grilled eel over rice. She absolutely loved it. There is something about rice when it is perfectly cooked. This was no exception. My wife who is cutting back carbs ate every grain of rice in bowl. I havent seen her do that in years. I first heard about Youta because of their ramen. It did not disappoint. I judge ramen on its broth. This was silky, rich, a bit garlicky and porky liquid goodness. I prefer a slightly thicker noodle but I cant fault them. The noodles had the right amount of chew that separates the really good from meh. The bamboo shoots were a very happy surprise. The jammy egg was perfection. Damn I really love this place. We did not have the Baos but they looked amazing as they came out of the kitchen. They do not take reservations but there is an app for the waiting list. That was a very pleasant surprise at how easy and functional it was. Really enjoy the white tuna and spicy tuna combo. The soft shell crab in the Williston Park roll was good too and paired well with the spicy tuna and mayo/eel sauce. They gave me a free magnet and keychain too! I am already looking forward to my next trip here.

We were surprised there was not a care from the waiters to make it right. They also mentioned that everyone had been complaining about the Kani and did nothing about it. Our sushi took an hour to come out, and my friend rolls were incorrect. She mentioned it to the waiter and got her food taken back to correct it. When she got her new, correct order from our waiter, not only was the order still wrong, the plate was super dirty and a hair was on her plate. At this point, with the lack of service, attention, and inedible food we called over the manager who apologized and offered to make the new rolls himself. He did it quick, and though it was a nice gesture, at this point we were so put off from the hair we couldn't finish our meals and were ready to leave. They comped the Kani salads (which we sent back) but to our surprise nothing else was taken care of. I wasn't expecting a $0 bill, but to pay over $50 for a pretty horrific meal and experience also rubbed me the wrong way. Do yourself a favor and support other Japanese restaurants that have the fish quality, affordability, and attention to customers that Kotobuki lacks with their new turnover in management.
