I've never had a bad experience a Spring ShabuShabu in Westbury. I first learned of this chain at their Flushing location and was so happy to see it opened closer to home. The Westbury location is much easier to find parking, staff are super nice and attentive, a clean bathroom, the selection of foods is great, the sauce bar is well stocked, and there are multiple flavors of soft serve and dole whip for dessert. It's always a challenge to find places that my parents are willing to go to for dinner, so it is a huge blessing that Spring open just 20 minutes away so we can add an additional restaurant to our family's list! Been wanting to go to this place for awhile now. Finally got the chance to this weekend. Was not disappointed! I enjoy hot pot in general but it's even better with the freezing weather we've been having. Drinking the broth just really hits the spot as well as eating all the piping hot foods that come fresh and steaming out of the boiling pot. The all-you-can-eat buffet setup is incredible. Endless fresh veggies, noodles, tofu, and extras that make customizing your pot a delight. They have like 37 different types of noodles to try. There are also so many different types of veggies which are a delight when it's bathed in the hot pot broth. My favorite is watercress The sauce bar is a highlight with a great mix of Chinese and japanese options that elevate every bite. Customize your saucepan because as you know, hot pot is only as good as your sauce game To top it off, the green tea/vanilla soft-serve ice cream at the end is a game-changer. It was creamy and refreshing! My kids and I went in for seconds and thirds. Service was attentive and friendly. The guy really went the extra mile to make sure everything was taken care of. I have been a frequent customer at this location and have always enjoyed my past visits, but my most recent experience was so distressing that I felt like sharing my experience. While waiting for our table, my friend and I ordered drinks at the bar. When our table was ready, a manager intervened in a way that felt incredibly abrupt. He adamantly instructed the bartender to transfer our drink ticket to the table, handling the transition in a heavily scrutinized manner that made us feel as though we were being accused of trying to get away without paying. Throughout our meal, this same manager repeatedly stood and stared directly at our table. Being constantly watched while trying to eat which made us feel deeply uncomfortable and unwelcome. To make matters worse, he abruptly pulled our waitress away in the middle of her serving us. The environment became so uncomfortable and upsetting that I ended up getting emotional multiple times during the meal. We decided to cut our dinner short because we no longer felt comfortable and just wanted to leave. We came in expecting a relaxing dinner at a place we used to trust, but we left feeling extremely upset. I'm the one that makes the joke about having to pay to make my own food, but this place was fine. It's the only buffet-style restaurant I will eat at and it is nice and clean. Both times I have gone they have been busy, but you don't feel crowded. The options are plentiful as well. I got what I liked and then got some stuff to try out. The only recommendation I would have would be some guidance and the sauces. Everyone seems to have their own little mixes they were making and I'm just totally clueless. I visited yesterday 9/20 for dinner with a friend. I have dined here a couple of times before without any issues, but this visit was super uncomfortable. During our meal the manager on shift repeatedly paced around our section and stared directly at our table. We were the only table in the section since it was 9:30pm so i'm not sure why he needed to be there for so long. At one point he was just standing a couple feet away from us staring and with a weird smirk that made it hard to enjoy the dinner with my friend. Every time we looked up, we noticed he was looking and it was very off putting. I am not sure if he thought we were going to steal or what but being continuously monitored while trying to eat made us feel very unwelcome. It was just so uncomfortable being watched throughout our meal that my friend became emotional out of frustration. We decided to just leave because we felt weird. My new favorite hot pot location! I love hotpot and usually go when I want to splurge a bit. With spring shabu shabu you have a more approachable price point with great quality and the unlimited option of choice. I've been here twice so far and the restaurant is clean, the food is fresh, and the service is quick. You pay a standard price to eat and that allows you to select what you want from the buffet which has noodles, rice cakes, leafy greens, root vegetables, and so much more! However this is an additional but very reasonable charge for meats. I wish the staff would label the meats or tell you what's what because both times I went I ordered a good range of meat and had no way to decipher my favorites. I've had better meats at other locations but they were still good and they offer a nice quantity. I love the fact that you can select what you want from the buffet, as it reduces food waste and you can really customize your experience. One of the best parts is after you eat your (possibly spicy) food you can cool down and get some ice cream - which is included! My family and I came here on Sunday at 5:30pm and it was already pretty busy. They don't take reservations so we wanted to get there early. We luckily were able to get a table right away. They offered us water or barley tea to drink since we didn't order any other drinks. We also immediately ordered our soup bases and the proteins we wanted. We chose... Soup bases: Dashix2 Mushroom Pork bone (They were out of Miso) Proteins: Ribeyex2 Beef belly Pork belly Seafood combo (included crab, white fish, clams, mussels, squid/octopus) Clams Lamb (we ordered later) Reminder- proteins are additional costs. We went and made our sauces and by the time we had finish making our sauces they had already put our soup bases down and our proteins down. They are very efficient. I the sauce area, they even have some premixed sauces like sesame oil and scallion or ponzu and garlic which were good. Definitely try them! One note: the clams are raw but the mussels are pre-cooked. Three of our mussels looked barely opened and then cracked so we asked to please get them replaced because we didn't want to risk it. They kept saying it was precooked but still replaced them. They have every possible vegetable, fish balls, and even fresh noodles that I was excited to try. You don't even really need to get that much protein, the buffet will fill you up plenty. When I went up for round 2, it even looked like they had rotated out some of the fish balls with different ones. They also filled up our soups a few times which was nice. Love it here, every time! The food is always fresh- with a ton of options to add into your broth. Veggies upon veggies, noodles upon noodles and lots of extras to add. The sauces--- chefs kiss! And the green tea ice cream at the end is a real treat! We've never felt the need to buy extra protein, because there's so much already to choose from, but the options sound delicious. Never tried shabu shabu where the base price did not include meats but I was pleasantly surprised by what was included in that rate and I usually do not need much meat to be full. Variety of greens, root veggies, mushrooms, tofu skins, fish cakes, and noodles. The sauce bar also had some nice additions such as a ginger sauce which I haven't seen at other places. I have heard the Flushing location offers more (like dumplings) in their base options but this was a solid spot in the area! The last time I came was a Saturday also around 2PM and it wasn't busy. I also noticed that the price per person went up a dollar compared to 3 months ago although still a reasonable price. Today I had the pork bone broth which was rich in flavor. We asked for mala sauce on the side so that we could add the preferred amount of heat to our soup. I loveee the way they set everything up inside- the decor and layout is very welcoming and open. It's well lighted as well and large. Their prices for the hot pot are not bad at all. Service is great always. The servers I have gotten are attentive. Food wise- I usually go with their kimchi broth. It is delicious- although I sometimes find myself adding salt and red pepper flakes. You can order meats from the menu which are extra charge, however there is a large self serve area for anything like fish cakes, noodles, and veggies. I ordered their beef belly from the menu which is delicious and you can tell it's fresh. The options in the self serve area expansive. I love spring shabu! I've been a fan since they opened in Boston many years ago. Since then, they've expanded into flushing and Long Island as well. I really love this location because it's located near Roosevelt Field Mall and very spacious. It has its own parking lot so it's super convenient. It is similar to their other 2 locations in that you get your own individual soup and can control the settings on how hot you want it on your own. There are unlimited vegetables, fish ball, sauces, and ice cream. You just have to pay for the meat and seafood you want. I loved that this location was so spacious. There is so much seating and I never felt claustrophobic while getting my vegetables. The servers were friendly and would check up on us to clear our plates, refill water, and refill our soup broth. I got my usual, which is the pork bone broth and the fatty beef. I absolutely love their peanut sauce and would recommend it!! read more

Though the Mineola location never came to be, likely due to the pandemic, I'm glad to see they've now opened in Westbury. The Westbury space impressed me right away. The layout feels open and airy, with large tables that are perfect for groups. The buffet area is well-lit and clean, with a team constantly restocking, maintaining the ice, and ensuring everything looks fresh. I also appreciated the two fully-stocked sauce stations at the front--there wasn't a condiment or sauce I felt was missing, plus there were extras like kimchi and lemons. I like that most of the offerings are all-you-can-eat, including vegetables, noodles, and various types of fish balls. While the meats are priced per plate, they've recently cut those prices in half, which makes the experience even more appealing. All the ingredients were fresh and high-quality, and I enjoyed everything I selected. I did notice they've stopped their weekday lunch service, but along with the reduced meat prices, it seems they're still navigating the Long Island market. I'm hopeful the Westbury location sticks around because, even though the Downtown Flushing spot is closer for me, I find myself preferring this location. Although there are plenty of other places a lot closer to me (even another Spring), this one checks a lot of boxes for me. The place is pretty large, clean, and modern, has a lot of fresh ingredients, and, my favorite part, plenty of parking! The staff and servers are friendly, observant, and happy to assist. The last time we went, there were two incidents that highlighted the staff's great service. First, I totally overfilled my broth, and when it started to boil, it overflowed a bit. I got up and asked for some more napkins, and guessing this happens a lot, they gave me some. One of them even brought larger paper towels and said, "It's okay, it happens all the time." Later, when one of the clams didn't open, I brought it to the attention of the server. He immediately apologized, took it back, and a few minutes later returned with two new clams and apologized again. My personal favorite part about coming here is the opportunity to fill up on sujebi, which are hand-torn pieces of dough. Always wanted to try this spot and was so excited to go. I wasn't sure if they would have enough options for my vegetarian husband but there was more than enough. Also it is not mentioned on the menu but they have a second vegetarian base made of tomato which is very good. The space was very clean and well maintained by staff. While meat isn't included, it wasn't necessary with all the fish balls, tofu, and veggie options at the buffet. The variety in the buffet made it easy to create a flavorful, filling meal. One of the highlights for me was the selection of noodles and the make-your-own-sauce station - so many choices! For an all-you-can-eat experience, the price is very reasonable, and the quality of food and the overall experience is totally worth it. I'm visiting from Canada and only wish we had a restaurant like this back home. The restaurant does close relatively early as we had arrived on a Friday night however the service was really good and they did not make us feel like we were forced out at all. Great Shabu Shabu place near the Westbury shopping centers! I have been to the flushing location several times and it's awesome to see that one has opened up in Long island near where I live. Each person gets their own pot and chooses a broth (Dashi, Kimchi, pork bone, spicy pork born, or vegetarian). You can order additional meat, seafood, and beverages or just focus on the buffet. I decided to order the fatty beef and pork belly and both tasted really good with the pork bone broth, which is my go to. The pork bone broth is hearty and savory, I recommend it for your first time so you can really enjoy the flavors of all the food items. There are also 2 sets of sauce stations. I like to create this concoction: 1 tb scallion, 1 ts cilantro, 1 ts minced garlic, 1 tb regular soy sauce, 1 ts dark soy sauce, 1 tb sesame oil, and fill the rest of the sauce bowl with sacha sauce. It's a very addicting flavor and makes everything taste 5 times better in my opinion. The buffet contains an assortment of vegetables, fishcakes, and noodles. There was more options than I expected. My favorite is the Napa cabbage, fried tofu strips, and tofu skin. These really soak up the flavors of the pork bone and sauce. For the price, this place is truly a bargain. My boyfriend and I are regulars here since it's close to our house. We loved the Flushing location and were excited when they opened a Long Island branch. Normally, the food is consistent, service is decent, and even on weekends we don't usually have to wait. We've recommended this place to friends many times. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit, I found a spider/bug in my soup. I calmly removed it with my spoon and let the waitress know without making a scene. She brought over the manager, who apologized and said it may have fallen from the ceiling, then replaced the soup. What was more disappointing was the lack of follow-up: no comp, no discount, and the manager never checked back in afterward. As regular customers, that felt careless and dismissive. My family loves Spring in Flushing but I always dread going. The LIE traffic that seems to be in perpetual rush hour now matter the time of day, crawling through Flushing, and paying for parking (and rushing the family out when we near the two hour mark because they don't validate anymore)! And can the valets move any slower!?!? But now I received one of the best birthday gifts ever! They opened up a Spring less than 15 minutes away! The bad news, I will probably gain 15 pounds because I will be coming here a lot!! This Spring has everything we love about the Flushing spot with none of the hassles! And the acoustics are so much better because you can actually have a conversation whereas the Flushing spot is so noisy. If you want rice, you have to order (no charge) but we never get rice so no big deal. Daniel, the manager also said the ice cream is better here and he was absolutely right. The temp at the Flushing spot seems colder than Westbury so some of it is almost crystallized, whereas Westbury seems a little creamier. And they will have two ice cream machines at Westbury! And unlike McDonald's, they were never broken at the Flushing spot. Hopefully Westbury is able to keep up with that record. I will admit that I am afraid of extolling the virtues of this place too much because I am afraid that this place will be impossible to get into soon, but I cannot lie to the Yelp community. read more

A friend had mentioned seeing a sign that this place was opening up in Westbury. I was so excited to hear. We have been twice already and planning to go again tonight. Summary review: I love it! It is smaller than the Flushing location but obviously it is brand new so very clean, acoustics are not as horrible, parking is plentiful and free (Flushing no longer validates) and best part, it doesn't take 15 minutes to go a block. Westbury has almost everything that Flushing does and if anything is missing, I didn't notice. The one thing is they have less choices at weekday lunch vs dinner/weekends. You start with ordering from a selection of broths (I always get the pork bone broth but may try vegetable/mushroom tonight) and proteins (I usually get rib eye) then you head over to pile your plate(s) with vegetables, noodles, fish cakes...they have so many choices of everything. One difference with Flushing is if you want rice, you need to order it with the waiter rather than self serve. The AYCE price includes the broth, all of the self serve items and the rice. Proteins are extra. We always had a hard time hearing ourselves in Flushing because of the acoustics. It is much better here although if there is a particularly loud person, you will hear them from the other side of the restaurant. I always love ending my meal at Spring with a green tea/vanilla twist ice cream on a cone (often two!). This is what makes me love Spring even more than the many other hot pot places. Let me start by saying I am a true critic at heart and I could not find one bad thing to say about this place. My family and I had an amazing experience. We arrived on a Saturday at 12:15 pm and were seated immediately. The hosts were so warm and welcoming! We met our server, Jay, who was incredibly accommodating! He explained everything to us without us asking, made us the most delicious dipping sauces and always predicted our needs. The minute I looked for him, he was there and knew what I wanted! The entire restaurant was spotless! I'm a germaphobe and I ate off the table! All of the vegetables were clean, crisp and fresh. The variety was vast! I was impressed at every turn! We had the pork bone broth and the Chinese mala broth (we had our own individual hot pots). Both very delicious. The Chinese mala is mildly spicy in my opinion. We ordered the seafood combo, dumplings, ribeye, pork belly and sausage. Too much food for the 3 of us! We found the pricing to be so good compared to some other ayce hot pot restaurants. Each person has their own personal pot and can go to the buffet area to get vegetables, frozen fish cakes and noodles. Food: the vegetables, fish cakes and noodles are AYCE, but they charge for small plates of proteins. I was a little disappointed in the limited selection of meats and seafood as compared to the more extensive hotpot menus in Flushing, but then again, we need to keep the location in mind... the local demographic would probably not be ordering intestines and surf clams. This is a long overdue review for one of my family's favorite places to eat! Spring Shabu Shabu is our favorite spot in the area for Shabu / hot pot. FOOD: The ingredients are always fresh and well prepared. With hot pot, you really just want a wide selection of fresh ingredients and sauce options, which they deliver on! They do not have any wagyu or "special" meats, however. It would also be nice if they had an herbal broth option, but the pork bone is a good substitute. To end your meal, they have delicious soft serve ice cream (in matcha, vanilla, or swirl), as well as a non-dairy option of pineapple dole whip! SERVICE: The service has always been great, and as we're somewhat regular customers, they always remember us and the table we like to sit at. The manager here is very nice and always checking in to make sure things are going well. VIBE: I like the music playlist here, which is probably just the Spotify list of someone who works here. It's a mix of current hits as well as some 90s and 2000s R&B / pop / dance / hip hop. The restaurant itself is spacious enough and tables are not too crowded, which I appreciate. My only wish is that they had an online wait list like Kura Sushi has, or that they took reservations. Because sometimes that peak wait time is insane. Oh my gosh, where do I start, this restaurant is AMAZING!!! It is pristine all around- quite literally spotless. The buffet has so many options to choose from and the team here is so kind and helpful. I loved the soft serve too. Definitely recommend the hot pot experience at Spring Shabu Shabu. read more
