My godmother brought me here for Easter Sunday after raving about a previous visit, and I am so glad she did! We had the cauliflower, butter chicken and prawn biryani, and their special garlic cheese naan. Every dish was bold, flavorful and perfectly spiced. I was unsure how the place was rated so high. I had much better Nepali and Indian food in South Bay, the patrons are more ruthless or let's say demanding in South Bay though as the ratings are normally much poorer down here. Here's what we got- Papad: 2/5: We were served pappads with chutneys as an appetizer on the house. The pappads reeked of stale and overused oil. Palak pakoda: 4/5: I asked our waitress for recommendations and she simply said that most people order palak pakora, I asked her if she likes it and she seemed doubtful, her simple answer was "everything is deep fried". We got the palak pakoda either way. Unlike the typical Indian style, this was made with more palak aka spinach. Decent but nothing to blow me over. Chicken chowmein:2.5/5: very poorly executed sloppy mess with overcooked chicken. And extra grease weighing it down. They threw in huge chunks of ginger and garlic as well. Garlic is manageable but huge chunks of ginger simply destroyed the dish. Chicken momo: 3/5: fell apart easily, were sitting on a pool of oil and the upper folded rim of the wrapper was uncooked. Kashmiri chicken:4/5: chicken in a spinach and tomato gravy. Relatively decent compared to the other dishes we got. Assorted bread platter: 4/5: three varieties of naans- onion, garlic and butter. The BEST Indian food I've ever had!! The staff here is SO kind and hardworking. The person serving us was also cooking the food and doing the deliveries? They give complimentary papadum & chutney when you arrive. It was my first time having papadum and I told him how much I loved it and he packed me some extras to go! We ordered chicken momo, mango lassi, butter chicken, palak paneer, garlic naan, and 2 orders of basmati rice. It was definitely more than enough food for two people. We had leftovers for two more meals! The chicken momo was big, the skin was the perfect consistency, and I loved how flavorful the filling was. My husband and I dined at Ocean Indian restaurant in SF. We have dined there quite a few times and this time Executive Chef Kandel came to our table, introduced himself, and asked about our dining experience. We shared that everything was delicious and we shared with him some of our favorites, and asked about adding Goat Cheese Naan to the menu. He was very welcoming, and open to talking with us and informed us that the food was North Indian food, and was thankful that we were patrons of the restaurant. We received complimentary chickpea wafers and three different sauces at the start of the meal.. My husband ordered Palak Paneer and I ordered Vegetarian Tikka Masala, both of them were delicious. We also ordered 2 Mango Lassis, 2 of the Raita, 2 orders of Basmati rice, and Garlic Naan, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. We try to make it to Ocean Indian every time we visit our daughter and son-in-law in The Richmond. Always delicious, with some unique offerings because of the Himalayan factor. Momos are absolutely delicious! We choose the vegetable ones. Never disappointed. They also have a nice salmon tikka, and fish tikka masala (also salmon). Naan are delicious: fluffy and flavorful (we get plain, without butter). Have also enjoyed veggie pakoras, daal and other dishes. Service is good, wine and beer selections are surprisingly broad. From the moment we sat down, they welcomed us with crispy papadum and a trio of chutneys, which was a great way to start the meal. For appetizers and bread, we ordered two garlic naans and a basket of puri. The naan was warm, pillowy, and had the right balance of chew and crisp edges, while the puri was soft, stretchy, and delightfully airy--definitely a highlight. The portions were generous, making it easy to share. The chicken momos were also a hit, with thick, doughy wrappers and a well-seasoned, meaty filling. The dipping sauce that came with them complemented the dumplings nicely, adding a bit of tang and spice. One of the standout items for me was the salmon in the tandoori mixed platter. The salmon chunks were cooked to perfection--flaky, tender, and infused with a smoky char that added depth to the flavor. It's not often that I find tandoori salmon this well-executed, so I'd definitely order it again. For entrees, we went with the palak paneer, lamb biryani, lamb rogan josh, and chicken korma. While the flavors were all enjoyable, the spice level was much milder than expected, despite requesting medium spice. Next time, we'll opt for "hot" to get the heat we were looking for. My favorite was the chicken korma--it was creamy, rich, and had a well-balanced blend of spices. If they added golden raisins for a slight sweetness, it would have been perfect, but even without them, it was still excellent. The palak paneer also stood out because of the paneer itself--it was fresh, soft, and had none of that rubbery texture that some places serve. You can tell they put effort into using quality ingredients. Service was another strong point. Our server was attentive, frequently refilling our waters and swapping out plates as new dishes arrived, making for a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. Parking is street meter parking, so be prepared to hunt for a spot during peak hours. We were too full to try their mango lassi this time, but it's on my list for the next visit! We decided to order from this Indian place for the first time. In the comments section, I specifically asked them to include the rice if chicken tikka masala doesn't come with it. I expected that rice might cost extra, and I was willing to pay for it. What I didn't expect was to receive the dish without any rice and no call or message from the restaurant letting me know I'd need to order it separately. That was really disappointing. Chicken tikka masala without rice just doesn't work, and eating it like that was honestly upsetting. As for the dish itself... it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. Just okay. This place was the top rated Indian restaurant in the Yelp Top 100 Bay Area list in 2022 and it's been on my bookmarks since then. I finally tried it when my cousin was visiting SF! I liked the food but was not blown away. Probably because it was a bit collect spiced for my liking and I'm used to more spice and flavor. I would rate it 4/5. We ordered in the following to our hotel to have along with some beer, Veg Momos - Filling was definitely flavorful and the momo itself was huge! But it was slightly more doughy than I am typically used to, that's my only negative to this. Paneer Tikka - soft well cooked/grilled paneer but I definitely needed more heat and spice on this one. Dal Tadka - hint of garlic and really well cooked, we liked this dish but slightly low on salt/butter/garlic. Definitely to the healthier side. Egg fried rice - got this for the side and this was pretty good. Simple dish, no complaints here. Went well with our other orders. Who doesn't want to eat at a place they can easily afford? I noticed this restaurant with its sidewalk awning while driving past it on Geary Street, towards The Grocery Outlet and the Orthodox Cathedral (otherwise known for its onion-shape domes). A quick look on Yelp and the reviews were very good. I love Indian food and it's been a while since I had it. So I decide to try it; after all, my stomach was nearly empty. The place appears formal with each table covered by white tablecloths, and enhanced with noticeably bright red cloth napkins and large water glasses. It's elegant without being uncomfortable. Dinner guests were dressed casually and there were quite a few families and groups when I arrived on a Saturday evening. The staff is very eager to see guests to a table and fill their glasses with water promptly. Two large seed-filled crackers with three distinct flavored sauces (mint, sweet syrup, and reddish hot pepper) were brought to me on-the-house. My tastebuds were awakened. I ordered the lentil dahl soup which arrived piping hot and the raita made with yogurt, cucumber, and spices; it not only cooled down the soup, but added more flavor to the mild taste of the dahl soup. Their chai tea's deep sweet flavor was delightful. I ordered the garlic naan that was very long in size and tasty. The medium-spice lamb curry was filled with chunks of meat; a separate order of basmati rice that's served in a tin bowl was more than enough for the curry sauce. After dinner, a complementary bowl of delicious rice pudding was brought to me which was a nice surprise. My first visit to this place was a real pleasure and I hope to return again soon. read more

For a party of 4, we were seated immediately on a weekday night and throughout the duration of our meal, the service was quick and friendly. After dining here and reading rave reviews, I can see why it's busy. We came on a weekend and it was bustling! Lots of folks dining in and coming in for take-out orders. The interior is nothing to write home about--plain pink walls and minimal pictures. Food came out slower than what we would've liked but it was a busy night. My companion did the ordering, we chose to share: Spinach Naan, Everest Chicken Momo, Fish Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi, and a side of Basmati Rice. The naan was soft and mellow in spinach flavor. The momos came out immediately and were plump. We both enjoyed the salmon which melted in our mouths and paired well with the flavorful tikka masala. The spices in the Aloo Gobi were great too. I'd recommend these dishes as a glimpse of their offerings! Though I'm unfamiliar with the Indian food scene in the city, Ocean is a great option in the Richmond District. I enjoy coming here. I have been coming here for a few years now and I really like this Indian place it is 5 blocks from my house on Geary Blvd. I have had the chicken tika and the coconut curries. The price for 2 or three people is reasonable under 60 dollars, which is amazing for SF prices. The place is nice to sit and see out to the street and the bathrooms are clean. The people who work here are really nice and friendly. I have not had a bad experience everytime it is great. read more
