This is a great Nepalese place - spacious and tall ceilings. Service is prompt and friendly. Very reasonably priced for good sized portions. (5 adults - 3 drinks, 1 appetizer, 4 entrees ~ $90) Naan was good. We could see chef making it fresh. The taste is subtly different (in a good way ) than the usual North Indian food, We enjoyed a lot. Will visit again.

A hidden gem in Richmond neighborhood. Food is great and price is reasonable. Service is superb and quick. Highly recommend the lamb chops. 10/10 Samosa is a little tough. 8/10 They gave us complementary crisp thin Indian bread as appetizer and sweet soup as dessert. Restaurant itself is very clean and nicely decorated.

Super super flavorful and great portion size (the naans are huge). I've never seen stuff naan before so gave it a shot and it was great, but doughier than normal naan. ordered takeout and meal was ready pretty quickly.

***USP: Indian Nepali food in San Francisco, highly rated and made its place in Yelp 100. ***AMBIANCE: clean interiors, with table cloths and a vase with red roses on each table. ***FOOD: I was utterly disappointed. I was unsure how the place was rated so high. I had much better Nepali and Indian food in South Bay, the patrons are more ruthless or let's say demanding in South Bay though as the ratings are normally much poorer down here. Here's what we got- Papad: 2/5: We were served pappads with chutneys as an appetizer on the house. The pappads reeked of stale and overused oil. Palak pakoda: 4/5: I asked our waitress for recommendations and she simply said that most people order palak pakora, I asked her if she likes it and she seemed doubtful, her simple answer was "everything is deep fried". We got the palak pakoda either way. Unlike the typical Indian style, this was made with more palak aka spinach. Decent but nothing to blow me over. Chicken chowmein:2.5/5: very poorly executed sloppy mess with overcooked chicken. And extra grease weighing it down. They threw in huge chunks of ginger and garlic as well. Garlic is manageable but huge chunks of ginger simply destroyed the dish. Chicken momo: 3/5: fell apart easily, were sitting on a pool of oil and the upper folded rim of the wrapper was uncooked. Kashmiri chicken:4/5: chicken in a spinach and tomato gravy. Relatively decent compared to the other dishes we got. Assorted bread platter: 4/5: three varieties of naans- onion, garlic and butter. Get this only if you are very hungry! The naans were on the thicker side and very heavy.

The BEST Indian food I've ever had!! The staff here is SO kind and hardworking. The person serving us was also cooking the food and doing the deliveries? They give complimentary papadum & chutney when you arrive. It was my first time having papadum and I told him how much I loved it and he packed me some extras to go! We ordered chicken momo, mango lassi, butter chicken, palak paneer, garlic naan, and 2 orders of basmati rice. It was definitely more than enough food for two people. We had leftovers for two more meals! The chicken momo was big, the skin was the perfect consistency, and I loved how flavorful the filling was. The butter chicken was creamy and I loved how tender and smokey the chicken was! The palak paneer was on the thicker side and I loved how generous they were with the paneer. The garlic naan was HUGE and so so flavorful! The interior of the restaurant is comfortable and really fancy! They even have fresh roses on each table. This is definitely going to be my go-to Indian spot!

We went here because it was across the street from Trad'r Sam's, and now we have a new favorite restaurant. We ordered the dinner for 2, and enjoyed perfect samosas, the best rice pudding we have ever tasted, artful garlic naan - along with tandoori chicken, saag paneer and chicken masala. The flavors were amazing, the food fresh and the server attentive.

My husband and I dined at Ocean Indian restaurant in SF. We have dined there quite a few times and this time Executive Chef Kandel came to our table, introduced himself, and asked about our dining experience. We shared that everything was delicious and we shared with him some of our favorites, and asked about adding Goat Cheese Naan to the menu. He was very welcoming, and open to talking with us and informed us that the food was North Indian food, and was thankful that we were patrons of the restaurant. We received complimentary chickpea wafers and three different sauces at the start of the meal.. My husband ordered Palak Paneer and I ordered Vegetarian Tikka Masala, both of them were delicious. We also ordered 2 Mango Lassis, 2 of the Raita, 2 orders of Basmati rice, and Garlic Naan, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered Chai tea and the Executive Chef provided complimentary rice pudding, which we loved. The ambiance is beautiful and spacious, with red table cloths, crystal chandeliers and is a relaxing atmosphere with friendly and accommodating staff. Don't hesitate. You will have a lovely meal.

Great place for a casual meal! The mango lassi was delicious. I might come back just for that. The butter chicken was also great, albeit slightly too creamy for me. We also received a very generous portion of naan, which was awesome. Only change I would make is to get everything with a higher spice level as it was a bit mild. Otherwise the service was fast and food came out quickly too!

Ocean Indian Cuisine is a solid choice for cleanliness, service, and well-executed classic Indian dishes. From the moment we sat down, they welcomed us with crispy papadum and a trio of chutneys, which was a great way to start the meal. For appetizers and bread, we ordered two garlic naans and a basket of puri. The naan was warm, pillowy, and had the right balance of chew and crisp edges, while the puri was soft, stretchy, and delightfully airy--definitely a highlight. The portions were generous, making it easy to share. The chicken momos were also a hit, with thick, doughy wrappers and a well-seasoned, meaty filling. The dipping sauce that came with them complemented the dumplings nicely, adding a bit of tang and spice. One of the standout items for me was the salmon in the tandoori mixed platter. The salmon chunks were cooked to perfection--flaky, tender, and infused with a smoky char that added depth to the flavor. It's not often that I find tandoori salmon this well-executed, so I'd definitely order it again. For entrees, we went with the palak paneer, lamb biryani, lamb rogan josh, and chicken korma. While the flavors were all enjoyable, the spice level was much milder than expected, despite requesting medium spice. Next time, we'll opt for "hot" to get the heat we were looking for. My favorite was the chicken korma--it was creamy, rich, and had a well-balanced blend of spices. If they added golden raisins for a slight sweetness, it would have been perfect, but even without them, it was still excellent. The palak paneer also stood out because of the paneer itself--it was fresh, soft, and had none of that rubbery texture that some places serve. You can tell they put effort into using quality ingredients. Service was another strong point. Our server was attentive, frequently refilling our waters and swapping out plates as new dishes arrived, making for a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. Parking is street meter parking, so be prepared to hunt for a spot during peak hours. We were too full to try their mango lassi this time, but it's on my list for the next visit! Looking forward to coming back to explore more of their menu.

    Hope L.

Everything here is so delicious. I tried the keema naan and butter chicken this time and it was just as delicious as always. The butter chicken sauce is so creamy and thick and the keema naan was good too! I just wish there was more lamb in it as it was only stuffed in the middle of the naan and wasn't evenly distributed in the naan. The service is always great here and the employees are so nice. Best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area imo!

Do you offer lunch buffet? What time and days?

We don’t offer a buffet. We serve fresh, made-to-order Indian and Nepali dishes at lunch every day we’re open.

Do you use regular chilli powder and jalapeños to make your food spicy or are you able to make your curries actually spicy?

We season with authentic Indian red chili powders and fresh green chiles—not just jalapeños. We can make any curry mild, medium, hot, or extra-hot on request.

Hello! Does your Tikka masala have dairy based cream sauce in it (or is it coconut)? Thank you!

Our Tikka Masala uses a dairy cream tomato sauce, not coconut. If you’d like coconut flavor, the Coconut Chicken Curry is a great choice.

Hi, do you have any Jain (no onion , no garlic) options?

Yes we can do Jain food thank you

Hi! Do you have any gluten free/dairy free items?

Yes we have gluten free and dairy free option also we make gluten free naan

The seating is spacious and sectioned off rather than one large open dining room, which allows for different arrangements and a nice sense of privacy between groups. The downside is that this layout seems to leave patrons on the right side, behind the wooden partition, nearly forgotten. We were handed our menus and then left alone for almost 15 minutes without anyone circling back to take our order. When we finally did order, the servers brought dishes to the wrong table and couldn't keep track of who had ordered what. That said, the food, atmosphere, and location could easily make up for it, I would consider coming back if I had to return to San Francisco.

Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We shared one breakfast platter, and it was more than enough for us. The restaurant itself is also beautiful, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. The biggest disappointment was the Turkish coffee. I had been telling my husband how amazing authentic Turkish coffee can be because I had previously visited a Turkish café in San Mateo where the coffee was served in a traditional pot alongside Turkish delights, allowing you to refill your small cup. I expected something similar here. Instead, we each received only a tiny cup for around $5, which felt more like ordering a small espresso. It wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't live up to our expectations. The service was another area that could be improved. We arrived early and were ready to order, but we waited quite a while before anyone came to our table. During that time, I noticed another table that had arrived after us was greeted, had their order taken, and thus received their food before we were served. That was a little frustrating. One small inconvenience is that there is only one restroom for the restaurant. Despite those issues, the food was excellent, and that's what matters most. We would absolutely come back for the Turkish breakfast because it was truly delicious. Overall, I'd give this place 4 out of 5 stars. With a little improvement in service and a more memorable Turkish coffee experience, it would easily be a 5-star restaurant.

I don't know where to begin. I was highly recommended this restaurant by some colleagues of mine,…read moreit being one of the best vegan restaurant chains around. My excitement turned into disappointment when I walked in. The cooler that's located right by the front desk is holding on for dear life. In it, they stored their pies, cheesecakes and other deserts. inside of it also had a bowl for the water leakage from the cooler, an overripe avocado, and bags of sliced pineapples. Also to my surprise, I had a quick peak inside their kitchen from where the counter was. Needless to say, I was shocked to see what looked like overused oil stored in a re-used seasoning jug, and grease stains all over the wall by the stove. I would expect to see that in a high oil kitchen, however, it being vegan, promoting healthy living, it looked the opposite. The vegan orange chicken I order was flavored good! However I couldn't wrap my taste buds around the taste of freeze burn nuggets that were quickly deep fried. The taste of the sauce they added at the end masked the slight starchy freezer flavor. The second dish I ordered was what I deemed could've been my favorite dish. Sadly that wasn't the case. Presentation was stellar! And the service was proportional. A bit pricy but it looked good at first sight. However, upon eating it, I quickly was taken aback by the strong rancid taste. The batter they battered the mushrooms in was bitter, suggest it was old flour, and the the oil it was fried it was definitely re-used as it tasted very very rancid. I really wanted to like that dish because I love anything mushroom related. I hope they try to fix the issues explained above for this restaurant really has bright expectations. Sadly mine was met with the opposite.
