A solid new sandwich shop in Excelsior, just off Mission St. We got an Atomic and a Veggie, both on Dutch Crunch...both of them are delicious. A good stacked veggie sandwich is hard to do, and they nailed it. I think it would be easy to make it vegan without mayo/cheese and would still be fire. The people were super friendly, and it's very clean inside but no frills. Parking is tough but it's right off the 14/49 Muni line. I want to address a different reviewer here - I saw our sandwich creator wash his hands at LEAST three times in like 5 minutes. You do know that using gloves for food prep is actually LESS hygienic, right? No hygiene issues here. 5/5 sandwiches. Go check out a new local spot! read more

Nice tidy shop run by very friendly and helpful folks. The Italian was everything I wanted in a sub that day even without cheese (which can't eat). A neighbor asked me as I was leaving my house, if it wasn't a long way to go for a sandwich. I hope not, I replied. It took 54 minutes on the 44 O'Shaughnessy. Well worth it. I stuck with the advice I'd gotten from The Infatuation (but skipped the mayo): "First-timers should start with the Original Sub, a thick stack of Italian meats, crisp vegetables, mustard and mayo, and, crucially, a tangy herb vinaigrette that'll linger on your hands and remind you of the sandwich that once was. Great new sandwich shop. Tried the Crusader and Mufasa...both aren't on the menu, but was recommended by the owner. Meats were thinly sliced and melted in your mouth, just the right ratio of vegetables to meat, sauce had great flavor but doesn't over power the sandwich like other places. Dutch crunch was fresh and soft. Everything was toasted perfectly...just the right amount of crunch and warmth. And the 8 inch was hefty....generous portions! Highly recommend. As a SF native, I am thrilled about Ocean subs. I stopped by the other day to grab a sandwich and they came through 100% I stared at the menu for a couple minutes. Plenty of good options to choose from and they'll also do a custom sandwich of your choice I decided what my first sandwich would be and opted for the 'atomic' which was basically everything but the kitchen sink. I felt this was a good way to test things out. The sandwich was loaded with meat and fresh veggies, had an amazing special dressing and cost a fraction of what I've seen other places charge. It's great to have a place that you can grab lunch at and it won't break the bank doing it. I talked to the owner a few minutes and he's a born and raised, local, who is proud to serve the neighborhood with some legit sandwiches that hold up to some of the best around. What sets the his place apart is the sauce and the fresh ingredients (which is not always served at some local SF shops nowadays). Found parking in front and line was to the door. Got a toasted turkey cheddar in Dutch crunch and he had a special that day. I like mine more toasted but his line was long on his soft open but he served the sandwich with heirloom tomatoes (delicious) which made up for it. Yummmm 10/10 2nd time we went on a Wednesday, also found parking 2 stores down. Tried the atomic, extra toasted, and added roasted sweet peppers. OMG - was sooooo goooood. That sauce is delicious! On par with big hitters Little Lucca and Roxie's EXCEPT he is priced competitively. Bought a 6" for $8. I spend $12-14 at Mollie Stones by my work. Come visit this spot! read more

Great experience at the new Ocean subs today for the first time. This is the reincarnated former deli world site. New owner, who is exceptionally friendly. Store is clean and menu is easy to navigate.I got there at 2 30 PM and the owner was finally sitting down to eat his lunch and jumped up to serve me right away. Sandwiches are made to order or you can pick one of their specials. You can also get it toasted and heated up. My sandwich was super fresh as well as the bread. The price was also super reasonable compared to other delis. I ordered the 6 inch sandwich and it was more than enough for me for lunch. Thank you. The owner is a nice dude and clearly takes care to prepare a quality product in a neat and clean location. $12.50 for a 8" is a great price considering most sandwich places are pushing $20 these days. Went here because I was craving a good sandwich and the ratings were really good for this place! I was already on Ocean so I figured what the heck. I was greeted by Amir when I came in, he gave me a minute to choose while he went over the best sellers. His customer service is top notch, so good in fact that he doesn't need to work in a sandwich shop if he doesn't want to. I also met Lee the owner and praised his shop and staff. As for the sandwich, I ordered the atomic sub (top seller) on a sweet roll with pepper jack and avocado. It comes with turkey, ham, salami, and the usual condiments. This sandwich was amazing! The ingredients were well balanced, it wasn't too wet and or dry and the bread didn't cut my mouth like some breads do. The fresh paper thin red onions stood out and went well with the avocado. After finishing half the sandwich, I was satisfied but glad I had half left and just killed it with my side of Tim's jalapeño and Kern's mango. Can't wait to come back! read more

The sauce that is used on the sandwiches is scratch made, and it makes all the difference. I chose the atomic sub, which came with just about everything. The size of the sandwich at that price point is probably one of the best deals around. My wife chose the veggie sandwich and added Turkey, which she loved.
