I absolutely love this place, they have the best Thai food in town! The food is fresher than other Thai places in Oceanside and Carlsbad. Their shrimp fried rice is to die for! The rice is not over the top with seasoning and spices, its just right and it has fresh Thai basil, which is my favorite. The other dishes were amazing as well. All fresh without it being too soggy or bogged down with sauces. I like this place because they put just enough flavor and spices without making their dishes over powered which can take away from the taste. Their noodles are also al dente and not soggy like some other restaurants with just enough spice to not put your mouth on fire! Overall, I really like this joint - food is spot on! read more

Placed a phone order for pick up and they told me it would be ready in half an hour got there within half an hour then didn't have my order 20 minutes after came back and still told me it was 15 minutes more so I waited and then come back and of course they still can't give me a time. So my experience was horrible and this restaurant needs more organization and also they didn't mind canceling my order after I waited all that time. Ocean Thai is an "okay" local Thai place. However, I think BKK Thai in Carlsbad has much more tasty Thai food in the area. If you have a coupon it's a decent choice for Thai in the area, but not the best. On a recent to go order, I ordered a large Tom Kah Gah soup with shrimp and Tofu assuming a large soup with shrimp would include at least 4 shrimp, but found the soup included only 2 shrimp! Needless, to say I was not happy and decided to call the restaurant to provide some feedback regarding the experience. They essentially stated this is the standard number of shrimp included in large soup with shrimp. In light of this recent experience, I probably won't return to Ocean Thai, since I expect more than 2 shrimp in my large Tom Kah Gah soup, and there are plenty of other 4 star Thai restaurants in the area. read more

My absolute "go to" for Thai food in Southern California. The Tom Kha soup is the best I probably have ever had. I've been going here for five years and realized I hadn't published a review. They are quick, consistent, and it's just SO perfect. I'm very physically active and so need to eat a lot. Had dinner. Paid the $37.90 with a $6.10 tip for total of $44.00. Went out the front door and started towards the car, when one of the waitress runs out yelling "You didn't pay tip!" WTF???!!! Went back inside to the front counter while she continued her accusation. The other waitress comes up and vouches that I did. The yeller continues looking the computer portable payment device screens for a few more seconds (perhaps doing mental math?) and finally admits "Oh, you did. It didn't show up on my screen. So sorry. So sorry. Have a good night." Uh...no...it's no longer a "good night." It was RUDE and INSULTING. One thing if there was actually no tip, but completely another went it was given and was accused otherwise. Should have done more due diligence before hurling false accusations. Food is good service is AWFUL. Called to place an order phone line was busy for 10 min and then just rang off the hook, then busy again. Drove all the way there - 10 min drive - redialing phone....still busy. Walked in to place an order on a Sunday evening at 7:30 PM and was told to wait until they rang up three credit cards. I was there first, the credit cards were just handed to this woman. Asked if I could just place an order since I was 10 minutes into waiting as it was and was told it would be "a minute". After 5 minutes, I asked another woman if I could place an order and again and was told by the cashier "I'm not just doing nothing here". I asked how long an order would take (1 dinner) and told 35 minutes. I walked out. Never again. Wasted 25 minutes of my life at this place when I could have had an order called in to another place and ready to be picked up by the time I finished with the Ocean Thai Cuisine ordeal. Called the next day to complain about the awful service on Monday, and again the phone rings off the hook and they DO NOT ANSWER. Ocean Thai Cuisine - you are not the only Thai restaurant in town. If you want loyal customers and your staff wants tips, think about treating your customers well. Every staff member I interacted with (2 women on 06/20/2021) should be sent to a training course in customer service. read more

They are in my top 3 Thai places in Oceanside. Good food, nice service and big portions! And they have one of the coolest fish aquariums! I ordered my go to Thai dish: pad thai with chicken with a number 6 for my spice level with a side of white rice. Came out pretty quick and portion was enough to share with 3 people. It was really good! The noodles were nicely cooked and lots of chicken! I wasn't a fan of the large pieces of peanut on top but it's easy to scrape off. Also I like a little spice with my Thai food; that's why I ordered a 6 for the spice level but it was just mild at best. My wife ordered a curry and all together we spent about $30 for our meal. While not to be considered authentic Thai food... From an American-style stand-point, where sugary sweetness holds sway in Asian cuisine, this is some of the best yellow and green curry you will taste. The vegetables in the yellow curry are always beautifully cut and well cooked and whatever protein you choose to use is seared properly to lock in it's own flavor to compliment the sauce. The seafood green curry is made with a wide assortment of excellent fish and shellfish and is well spiced when asked for. Most people say they judge a Thai restaurant on their Pad Thai, I personally judge it based on the Phad See Ew. Unconventional, I know, it's just the dish I prefer, and the Phad See Ew here is exceptional. The noodles are sweet, stick well, the eggs are always well cooked and not overdone to the point of chewiness, and the broccoli is warm, soft, but still firm, while absorbing all of the flavors it should. Fantastic. All of the appetizers that I've had have been delicious, especially the Chicken Satay as their peanut sauce is very thick and sweet, and the wrapped shrimp are excellent. WOW, what is up with the high reviews? I came here because my Thai food reviews kept suggesting this one to me; unfortunately, I was really disappointed. First of all, I've had spicier Thai food; I'm sure the food is slightly authentic, but I wasn't impressed. Secondly, my entree (green curry) tasted awful; it tasted rotten. I'm not sure if it was the curry or the meat...btw, my meat was dry. Kinda surprising since it's *curry* and usually the meat should absorb the sauce and juices. The only thing that I liked was the coconut soup and the egg roll. Oh, and it looks nice inside; pretty big and plenty of room. But after this food experience, I don't think I'll ever come back. Based on the other low reviews, I'm too scared to try out the other dishes they have. After eating such awful green curry, I don't think I'll be able to eat that for a while, even at my own favorite Thai restaurants. read more

We've come here 2x and both times we were happy with their food and service. The first time we visited there was about a 15min wait to be seated so we decided to just order and take it home since it would take about the same amount of time for them to cook the food. The second time we came it wasn't too busy since it was closer to their closing time but they still sat us. There service is excellent! Come out in a large bowl with a soup for everyone to scoop. Wait wasn't long and food came out relatively quick. They also have many levels of spices you can choose. Let them know ahead of time that you're vegetarian and they will advise you of your best options- just be careful bc oyster sauce is in some items so you must confirm it isn't in the dish you're getting. Every item we have tried we have been very happy with - the fresh rolls with vegan peanut sauce is my fav but you can't go wrong with anything off the menu! I just wish they had occasional dinner specials or made a supplemental vegetarian menu to help us come out more often but otherwise very satisfied! The portions aren't particularly large, so it isn't a cheap takeout family meal, but it is healthier than many of the other options. Just walked out a few minutes ago after having standing around with no acknowledgement. There were two servers and they each came up to the front individually where we were standing and walked away without even so much as a simple salutation or even a glance. One cleaned up two tables and then walked away without even looking back at us. This is the second time we have been here and the first time we were here we had two servers - one was excellent but the other could be retrained. Also, the food was underwhelming. We decided to give them a second chance and come back today thinking the poor customer service was a fluke and were hoping some of their other dishes would be better than what we ordered on our first visit. I understand that restaurants get busy at lunch, but you cannot forget simple manners like acknowledging someone is there and letting them know they may have to wait a few minutes when you are standing a foot away from them. Maybe they got too busy and decided they didn't want more business at the moment. There are so many other restaurant businesses to support so we will eat somewhere else. read more

I ordered the sweet and sour tilapia with and Thai spare ribs. The ribs came out spectacular looking and it was really delicious with thai spice. The tilapia was crispy with just the right amount of sweet and sour. The dishes came out piping hot and fresh. The aroma was wonderful and permeated throughout the area I was seated. Overall, place is clean smelling and the decor is rich in culture with nice Thai wall artifacts and furniture. The food was top notch and prepared with fine ingredients and vegetables.
