I went there with a friend, and as soon as we arrived we had a waiter, we asked for an appetizer, and the waiter honestly told us that it would take 20 minutes to prepare, so we decided to pick another one. I liked the fact that she told us that it was going to take a long time, despite the fact it was the most expensive appetizer. The main course was very good also, and the portions were good size. I liked the plates where they serve the food, they look fancy and upscale. The drinks are also served in nice fancy glasses. We spent 30 dollars for 2 persons! It included 2 drinks (free refills), 1 appetizer and 2 main course dishes (free rice refill). It is a good place to have a nice dinner, it is located at the "edge" of a strip mall... but is not that bad, close by there are other cool stores like barnes and noble, michaels, etc. read more

Been going here for nearly 10 years now, eaten countless dishes and can't recall a bad meal. Back in town and swung by and had the beef pad thai level 3, one of my top 5 dishes. As usual it came out piping hot with loads of beef. You would be hard pressed to find better pad thai anywhere...to include Thailand. Some my favs here are the pad se ew, the papaya salad and the garlicy and smokey pork spare ribs with sticky rice. I also dig thier coconut tom kha soup with shrimp. It was super busy when we came here on a Saturday night. I guess it was one of the few Thai places in Oceanside. The food wasn't extraordinary. We ordered the spring rolls, which were too cilantro-y for my taste. The Tom Khar soup was more creamy than coconut-y. In the garlic basil dish, we found a small piece of metal - it appeared to be some type of foil. They took it to the back and brought a new plate out, although I can't be sure it wasn't just the same dish reheated. If you want some heat, go for 7+. We had ordered 7 for all our dishes and let me tell you, I needed a couple cups of water throughout the course of the meal. This place packs on the heat. Totally change my review. I had previously stated that this was the BEST in the USA. I take that back. It is not. So I went for lunch and had the chicken coconut soup Tom Kha and also had the chicken eggplant. Tom Kha: Not spicy at all and I asked for Thai spice. If you don't have snot rolling down your face, you don't have Thai spicy. But this sucker was nothing on the spice scale. It really tasted about the same as if I took a can of coconut milk and mixed some paste together. Seriously, I've done that before. It tasted good when I mixed the Tom Kha with the rice. So I was not totally disgusted by this meal but that's why it has 3 stars. Chicken Eggplant: The eggplants were so hard and rough. Not soft or really enjoyable at all. They got the spice down kind of okay. But again it tasted like paste. Now it could be that the main chef I am used to is not there anymore. But I am not going to this place ever again. It used to be absolute favorite, but now they are a little bit lower than mediocre. Yes one bad experience can sour me. If you want to be credible, keep your menu and food prep consistent. read more

Tried there for first time last Saturday for dinner. Waited for about 20 mins to get table. We ordered fried fish with basil and garlic sauce and the fried flat noodle ( it was thai name). Anyway, the fried fish itself was pretty good but the sauce was horrible. If there was no basil, I can't even say it was Thai dish. I ordered for spicy level 6. But not spicy at all. Been here a few times and each time it is delicious!! If you go at lunch, you can get a great deal, great service and above all else, great food! I love their egg rolls and soups, especially the coconut based one. Make sure you try out both. Thai iced tea here is pretty standard. We eat at a LOT of Thai places. This was right up there. I happen to be pretty spoiled when it comes to Thai food, and even this white girl likes it spicy. So if I ask for a 7 or 8 you better produce cause I am going to know! After a long day at a car dealership and tire shop I was just a teensy bit hungry. The Panang Curry was delish! The boy-toy got spicy basil (10 hot) and loved it. Portion size is largish and when he needed extra rice it came lickety split. They have an interesting salt water aquarium and lots of room. It wasn't very busy when we were there and the staff were very attentive with out being overpowering. And all smiles. Gotta love that. If we go back to Oceanside we will definitely look them up; suggest you do too. read more

Ordered some takeout a few days ago and picked it up on my way to work. I had the pork pad see ew dish as it is my favorite Thai entree. I devoured it when I arrived at work as it was absolutely delicious. The broccoli and meat were fresh, and the dish was cooked perfectly. The only thing that would have made it 5-star worthy was a side of spicy chili paste and/or jalapeno-vinegar sauce to accentuate it's savory flavors. The food here was hot and tasty. Ordered the goyza which was deep fried and not steamed, it was okay. Also got the shrimp yellow curry wasn't spicy enough or sweet enough but was tasty. We also got the Pad Thai with beef which was good and very hot temperature wish. Did ask for Thai chilies on the side and was told they were frozen because they went bad quickly, having a few Thai chilies for your customers at a Thai restaurant should be a no brainer. I've tried a few Thai places in the surrounding area, and this tops them all. My wife doesn't even really like Thai food and she loved the noodles from this place. The spare ribs had good flavor, broccoli was steamed perfectly to the point where it wasn't to soft and wasn't crunchy either. The chicken and eggplant was delicious as well. Solid 5 stars. We found Ocean Thai by accident and what a wonderful surprise it turned out to be. We started with the Thai iced tea, one with boba, one without and they both tasted very good. The coconut shrimp soup and wonton soup were great and the spice level came as asked for. The chicken satay with peanut sauce also came with a cucumber, red onion and vinegar sauce that was out of this world. The shrimp pad thai and pineapple fried rice tasted authentic and delicious. Service was very professional and courteous with the ladies checking on us without being intrusive. We finished dinner with mango sticky rice, my first time and what a way to finish this dinner. The sticky rice was warm, a little sweet with coconut flavor and I have a new favorite dessert. We highly recommend this restaurant to anybody. Thank you Ocean Thai staff. read more

I was disappointed with the portions, very small portions! This was a take-out order and it looked like it was only one scoop of rice and the yellow curry chicken came in a small take-out soup bowl. I'm used to Thai restaurants serving large portions. Also, we ordered the yellow curry chicken and i was surprised that the chicken had a fishy smell! I didn't notice this until it was brought to my attention. Looks like the cooks in the kitchen are lazy and cook poultry and seafood in the same pans. Not good. I really like their drunken noodles and often get my fix. I personally think it's delicious and a big portion. Their Thai Tea with boba is the best. The prices are reasonable. Their kids menu isn't very broad either chicken nuggets/fries or chicken teryiaki/white rice. However, be fair warned not to come during peak hours for their waitresses don't work well under pressure or don't like children... I went there with my toddler in tow around dinner time and it was a bit packed but was seated immediately. I was asked if I wanted a high chair and accepted. I looked over the menu while my toddler was on my lap and the waitress came and asked for our drink orders/took my food order. She came back with our drinks, but NO high chair. I asked again, thinking she may have forgotten and agreed to bring me one right away. I love Ocean Thai! They have two locations, but I like the Vista Way location better than the Mission Ave one. The food tastes the same, but the atmosphere and the parking lot is better. My favorite dish is Basil, Garlic with Chicken. I also love their thai iced tea - you get a really large glass...yummy!! They have great lunch specials - you get soup or salad and 1 eggroll with your entree for under $10. They have a really nice salt water fish tank you can sit by. This table is the first to be taken so go when they open. It's nice to sit next to and my two girls love looking at the fish. read more

At another local Thai place I get eggplant and at another their special. They also do a great papaya salad and sticky rice and mango. I can not tell you how people have not tried sticky rice and mango. Try it anywhere for gods sake. After getting the coconut soup (tom kha) and the fresh rolls, i was ready to give this place 5 stars 4 at the least. It was quite tasty (would come back for it) and the thai iced tea was also good. But then the two main dishes, pad thai and red curry, were thoroughly disappointing. The pad thai had hardly anything beyond the chicken and noodles. It tasted a little more sour than the other pad thais ive had. Probably the worst pad thai ive had ( not saying it is /the/ worst, its just all the others Ive had were better. The red curry didn't have enough coconut milk and so it looked more brown than red and tasted less thai than any other red curry I've had. Continuing my quest to try my way through North County Thai restaurants. :) This one has a convenient location in the mall parking lot. What I really like about this place is that you can order through freerestaurantdelivery.com which is a huge plus! Really really good is the pad-see-ew. They pack it nicely in aluminum foil so it stays nice and hot during delivery. The taste was really good for this particular menu item. The curries are really small for the price and so is the rice portion that comes with it. Wish you would get more here. Also..the curries taste a little bland compared to some of the other Thai places around. They are ok but not great. read more
