I've always enjoyed coming here, even when service was a little slow because I've always loved their sushi and miso soup. This visit was no exception! My only regret is not posting this sooner because they're closing in August and I want to give them some more business before they do. They plan on reopening at a new location, but I don't know it yet. Service was a little slow, but admittedly, they were a little busy. They started to seat us, but someone else took that table before we could get to it. Instead of explaining to those people that table was for us, they made us wait a little longer for another table. Once seated, I ordered the Canadian roll and the soft-shell crab roll as well as an order of steamed edamame to share with my wife and a bowl of miso soup. My wife ordered the spicy combo that comes with the Hoosier roll, Bob's roll, and California roll along with a bowl of miso soup. The miso soup came out hot, and full of flavor. The edamame came out after that and it was nicely steamed with sea salt on it. It was just as tasty! My wife enjoyed her spicy combo; all of the sushi was tasty. I loved my sushi as well. I always love the Canadian roll with the cream cheese, salmon, and avocado on the inside and the fish roe on top with the spicy sauce drizzled below it; it was wonderful as usual. The soft-shell crab roll was delicious. I love the bit of deep fried crab that's piled on top of that sushi. It was all so mouthwatering good. All in all an excellent visit. The restaurant was clean, the food was great and the server more than made up for the slight delay on our table. We will definitely come back a few more times before it closes in August. read more

It was as yummy as always. The tempura appetizer was just okay. It had too much sweet potato. The calamari was rubbery and not up to par. I had been craving sushi, and finally got out for a date night! We came in on a Saturday, and this was a very busy place which is always a great sign. They had a bit of a line waiting for guests to get seated. Staff were very friendly and they start you out with either soup or salad. It was a cold day, so I opted for the soup. This restaurant has been around forever and I'm glad I came back - it's been years! It's in a nondescript strip mall and tough to see off 86th street unless you're looking for it. The service is efficient and quick but you won't feel rushed. My favorite. Very well priced and plentiful. We came during lunch so got the lunch time special. For about $16 you CANNOT beat this deal- salad or miso soup, select from a good list of rolls (mine ended up about 10 pieces with lots of additional crab on top, 2 pieces of sashimi, and another side. I am always on the lookout for sushi! I moved into the 86th and Ditch area and had heard about a great sushi place in one of the strip malls. Finally, 1 year in, I was able to visit. Brightly lit, wonderful dining area. We went last minute late in the evening and were seated quickly. Many take-out orders were being processed (which made me feel good about their quality). We had a fantastic waitress who explained items on the menu and took time to ensure we knew their ordering process. The garlic edamame was amazing! It was definitely a hit. We also tried regular edamame, which was good. The miso soup was also warm, flavorful, and hit the spot. Sushi rolls and sashimi were ordered. They were out of a couple of specialty sashimi and nigiri, so my husband said to bring me anything in place. We tried multiple rolls, and I loved the Rock N Roll and San Diego roll. I did not like one item: the banana sushi. My friend ordered this, not me; I just want to point that out. But we had to try it, and I will never try it again. If you like something different, try it, but oh no, that is not something that should be mixed together. Okay probably the worst Japanese cuisine I've ever had in the USA. This was unfortunate as the reviews from others gave me high hopes, but no it was a let down so bad I don't think it will be given a 3 try chance. 1. Garlic Edamame was bad, it tasted like salt and pepper pork rinds. Wasn't just me who thought this. 2/10 I mean how do you make bad edamame? Well surprised me... They did. 2. Soft Shell Crab roll! (In photo) was absolutely terrible! Whoever thought deep frying soft shell crab, and then just smashing it into a mushy blob and wrapping seaweed and rice around it , and serving it... Well... I was on the hunt for a bento box and was happy to find Ocean World. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and California roll bento along with seaweed salad. The chicken teriyaki was more for my kids to share and it was nothing special. Just chicken teriyaki but always a hit with my kids. I liked the assortment you get with the bento (miso soup or salad and tempura veggies & shrimp). It's a lot of food for one person! I ended up only eating a few bites of everything in the bento and even sharing the chicken with my kids gave us a good amount of left overs for the next day. I ordered the food to-go. I'm glad that they put plastic wrap over the items that might spill because the box with the teriyaki had a little sauce coming out of it and it was saved by the plastic wrap which avoided mess in my car! I grew up going to Ocean World. The ambiance in the restaurant almost transports you to another world! I always love seeing the sushi chef behind the bar working the rice into beautiful rolls. The staff has always been kind. My mom surprised my and my family with a sushi platter from Ocean World and it was like a work of art! I personally love sashimi and raw fish and feel that ocean world always does an amazing job with this! My mom selected the rolls in the platter (she does not like raw fish) and they were good but lacked some of the freshness I like with the other types of rolls. (This is likely just my personal taste). The tofu was AMAZING! After living in Japan for 2 years, a visit to Ocean World often satisfies my cravings for authentic Japanese food. Some of my favorite items to order here include: Takoyaki (usually piping hot how it should be:), Katsudon, and Chirashi! (The chirashi is great if you like raw fish). I have dined here several times and enjoyed everything I have eaten- from sushi, to soup and the appetizers. The dinner portions are a really good size and I always go home stuffed! I recommend the chirashi bowl if you're a sashimi lover. You get a little bit of everything. This is a great spot for sushi. I am just obsessed with their King of salmon roll and I can't imagine myself ordering anything else now that I have discovered it. They do offer other Japanese menu items which I have not tried, expect for Katsudon. Please try sushi when you go here. However, during busy hours sushi takes VERY long, typically 40-45 minutes. If you order apps then you will get that served in the first 10 minutes, then you will spend the next half an hour just waiting for your Sushi. I do understand that they are busy taking dine -in orders and to-go orders, but given the consistently long wait times, I wish they'd consider adding another sushi chef to better meet the needs. Just.... why not? Service can be hit or miss... when friends and I were waiting for sushi, during the entire time our server NEVER came back to our table to refill our drinks, or ask if we needed anything, or let us know how much longer it would be. This was a major disappointment. She served our table twice but she would not come back unless we wave our hands or worse, get up and walk to her. Of course there is a more attentive server there too with very friendly service and care. Yet, this is still a place I recommend if anyone asks me where to go for sushi. read more

I really wanted to love Ocean World. It's got great reviews and it's just a few miles from home. To preface this review, we did go on a busy Friday night. I have a 3 year old daughter who is pretty good when it comes to restaurants. She can sit still and be entertained for quite some time. We were sat quickly, which was great, but that was the only quick thing about our experience. We got one drink each because we didn't see our server more than 3 times in the 2+ hours we were there. I think because it was pretty busy, our order was forgotten. I used to be a server so I know how that goes, sometimes you think you put the order in and you realized 30 minutes later that you didn't. The food was pretty good once we got it and we ordered a couple different rolls. However, we had to take most of it to go since our toddler had been through all the stops to keep her entertained for such a long time. There are few things that are worth leaving the house for at this point in the pandemic, but one of those is the Bob's Roll at Ocean World. So when my husband found himself getting ready to celebrate a birthday during a time when the world is falling apart, we chose to spend our precious pennies on a takeout meal from Ocean World. Of course, we got the Bob's Roll (two orders). But we also got the Nigiri Top Ten, which was 10 pieces of nigiri sushi and a choice of a sushi roll. It also came with a side salad. It was delicious and oh-so visually appealing. We also got a California Roll (for the kids) and an appetizer side of crispy chicken, which came with a sweet chili sauce. I could have sat and ate five orders of crispy chicken (on the couch, in my pajamas, trying not to cry, as one does right now) that's how good it was. Thrilled to find I can get awesome sushi so close to home! Ocean World is really beautiful inside and my sushi was gorgeous even on carry out. I got used to eating amazing sushi from a place in fishers that closed years ago and it ruined me because now I'm so picky about the quality of ingredients in my sushi. But the Jewelry Roll brought back happy sushi memories because it was so so good! I don't normally love fish roe and this came with quite a bit. The roe actually made for a really balanced bite. Can't wait to go back and dine in and try their some of their Nigiri and sake. I am obviously the last to know how great this place is because it gets crowded fast for the dinner hours. The service is always fantastic and the food is great too. I do think they have cut down just a bit on the protein and toppings of the sushi which is why the lost star but well worth five stars most times.
