Still one of my favorite places to go for fresh seafood and sushi. A great place to take my clients and out of town guests. Restaurant decor drenches you in ocean blue lights. The high ceilings and ocean blue decor gives a very light, bright under the sea feeling. Booths and tables are comfortable with additional seating at the sushi bar. Team members are attentive and makes great recommendations of the favorites. Lunch portion of fish & chips is crispy, crunchy and not oily. Comes with a bowl of clam chowder as well. The roll I ordered was pretty fishy which I don't think is a good thing for sushi. My wife and I ended up only eating one roll a piece, but because we said we wanted AYCE, we were charged full price. Pleasantly surprised! It had been quite a while since I'd been here, but since we were headed to the casino anyway to support and listen to my dear friends, New Wave Crave (newwavecrave.com), one of the best 80s bands anywhere and one of the best bands around, who were playing music in The Terrace Lounge that night, dinner in the casino made sense and I was looking forward to revisiting after such a long time. I was the first person to review this place on Yelp back in 2011 (well before I became a Yelp Elite), but for some reason, they have this new listing/page and my review is buried in obscurity on their old listing/page. All you need is a players card. Once we figured out how to navigate the menu, we made our selections and waited for our server. Unfortunately, our waiter was average...it took him a while to get to us. He was kind of meek and not too personable, but took care of us in a reasonable, but not so efficient manner. The place wasn't busy and there was plenty of wait staff on duty, so it shouldn't have taken that long. It wasn't a negative aspect, just slightly disappointing... My dining companion ordered a Toasted Almond Martini [$18]. (Stoli Vanil Vodka, Kahlua Coffee Liqueur, Housemade Toasted Almond Syrup, Half and Half) It also had an Almond Crisp on it. Nice presentation, but a little sloppy. The whipped cream had fallen by the time the drink had made the short trip from the bar to our table. She liked it, although she thought it was a bit sweet. I ordered a Kirin Ichiban beer [$14]...great price...it's the equivalent of 2 beers (21.4 oz). She ordered Fish and Chips [$29] (Beer-Battered Wild Caught Iceland Cod) Outstanding...moist, flaky, deliciously seasoned fish with a light, crispy batter. Tangy Tarter Sauce was a great complement (also came with Cocktail Sauce). She got French Fries and Coleslaw as her sides. I ordered the Lobster Roll [$31] (Maine Lobster Meat, Celery, Mayonnaise, Toasted East Coast Soft Roll) I'm originally from the East Coast and grew up eating Lobster Rolls. I always have high expectations and I'm usually disappointed at what I get here in the West... This iteration blew me away! The right amount of seasoned mayo...just enough to hold it all together without being overly cloying or making it mushy. Nicely diced celery added the crunchy texture that's expected in the lobster. Served on a perfectly toasted hot dog roll...the traditional way. The lobster was delicious...cooked just right...great flavor and texture...and a reasonable amount of it. Not as large as I'd like, but still a good amount. I got crispy Sweet Potato Fries and Coleslaw as my sides. I LOVE Sweet Potato Fries and these were great...crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The Coleslaw was delicious...just enough dressing to make it slightly creamy without being mushy...great flavor. Referring back to the service from our waiter...it took a while to catch his eye to request ketchup for our fries...he seemed oblivious and finally looked our way after passing us by a few times. You'd think that ketchup would be brought to the table with any order of fries. All in all, a fine meal...I plan to visit again to try some of their other menu items that friends have recommended...as well as getting their sushi again, which I've always enjoyed. New to Reno, I've been on a quest to find the city's best All You Can Eat Sushi. This is the 6th place I've tried. Note although I only ate sushi I could see everything coming out of the kitchen and it all looked phenomenal. The challenge with this review is do you review in the context of being a Resort Casino restaurant (which are typically higher priced than non resort restaurants) or do you compare it apples to apples with say a strip mall joint straight across based on price, quality, atmposphere and service? I sort of decided to try to go in the middle of those two perspectives. For a casino resort restaurant, I would give it 5 stars. For a local restaurant regardless of location, I'd give it a 4 at most, so I decided on an average 4.25 lol. What's good? The fish quality here was noticeably a little better than all the other places I tried (Hinoki is next on my list and will be my seventh place). The atmosphere here is a matter of personal opinion but I'd say it's the best compared to other places I've been with the caveat that I wish the sushi bar had a better view of the amazing gigantic super-wide high-res screens showing you amazing videos from scenes around the world. But instead, you have an interesting view of the open air kitchen which is pretty cool! The menu selection of nigiri and maki rolls is average. Not small but not huge. There's plenty to choose from. The service is top notch. They do not have scallop nigiri, which a lot of other places have. Otherwise it's very similar selection. What's bad? Well, let's talk about the elephant in the room. The price. It's about $8+ more expensive than the non-resort competition and I'd have to say the atmosphere and fish-quality *almost* make up for that. BUT, regarding the fish quality I could have just timed it right as far as day of the week. But the price is what would take it from a 5 to a 4 when comparing straight across to other cheaper places, EXCEPT, if you are a local. Local's get a 20% discount (something Atlantis sadly doesn't offer at their sushi bar with the cool atrium view of the city) so the local's discount evens the playing field and bumps it to a 5 when not compared to non-resort places. I was disappointed though that they charged me $5 for a Sierra Mist. I was in shock and then remembered I'm in a casino resort where the norm these days is a pint of budweiser is $9+ (pint of Saporro here is $10.50.) But come on, $5 for a soda!? Ridiculous. (That's really rubbed me wrong and made me not be able to round up to a 5, along with no scallop nigiri, and of course there's equal quality elsewhere for a bit cheaper.) read more

We also declined the bread and butter to save room for the real food. 5*Tempura Vegetables included Yam, Asparagus, Carrot, zucchini, Broccolini: lightly coated and fried vegetables, crispy and delicious, went well with the sesame-soy dibbing sauce. The portion was huge, enough for a meal. 4.5*West Coast Cioppino included Hall Lobster Tail, King Crab, Shrimp, Mussels and Fish, Spicy Tomato Broth, Grilled Bruschetta: seafood was cooked just right, especially lobster and scallop. They were very tender. The Spicy tomato broth was mild spicy , perfect for dipping grilled bruschetta. The portion was huge. 4*Chicken Scaloppini Piccata included Thinly Sliced Chicken Breast, Mushrooms, Capers, Garlic, Lemon, Pinot Grigio, Sweet Butter, and Linguini: tasty, light and filling. Craving sushi in Reno? There are options aplenty, but the Peppermill offers 20% off for locals, which is a huge deal. We found ourselves at Oceano on a Saturday night at the peppermill. Upon checking in they told us it was about a 45 minute wait, however we asked if we could sit at the sushi bar and they were able to seat us right away. Service was prompt and we were seated with waters, physical menus and menus on ipads as well, which was really cool. They were out of Sapporo on draft but offered us a large Asahi to split between the both of us. Right off the bat, this place has a really wonderful atmosphere. The travel videos you can find on the walls within the restaurant inspired us to talk about travel pretty much the entire time we were having dinner. We dined in for all you can eat which is about $45 per person. We started off with a cucumber salad and a seaweed salad come of both of which we thought we're just okay. We also ordered some Nigiri, the Donald and the Sake. Yum! For the long rolls we started with the Boom boom roll, which was delicious, but we both agreed it needed something crunchy, like a tempura or cucumber element. Next was the Jackpot roll, which was a little more fried. This was definitely my favorite!! Lastly, we ordered the Spicy Salmon long roll and Crispy Salmon Skin hand roll. Both were delicious! We saved over $20 with our locals discount. In order to get the discount, you just have to have a player's card, be a local to Reno, and present it with your check. Even before the renovations , I remember Oceano being the place to go for AYCE sushi. It's been a long time since I've been back , but after coming back , I remember why I liked the Oceano so much. First off: IPad menu? Felt very luxurious and that's just the thing when you first walk into the Oceano, everything feels so luxurious. Of course if you know the Peppermill, their staple is the big screens with the different videos of different locations around the world. Definitely sets the vibe . A lot of people come here for the AYCE sushi, but if you are feeling more on the seafood side, they have different options on seafood dishes including an Oyster platter either half dozen or whole. Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder for your soup needs to Salmon or Cod dishes that you may want . They will even make you tempura vegetable for an extra charge if you ask the waiter you would like some. But like I said.... a lot of people come for the AYCE sushi and I can't blame them, the sushi here is GOOD. Nigiri sushi can go really good if you know what fresh nigiri sushi should taste like. The Oceano met every expectation for me on that and the freshness of the nigiri is top notch in my opinion. Keep in mind if you are doing lunch here and you want sashimi , they don't offer sashimi for the lunch time apparently , so only dinner time. The only downside of my experience from this past time, was the time wait on the last few rolls my family ordered due to "backed up" orders in the sushi aspect of the restaraunt. We ended up waiting 30 minutes for a long roll of Sake (Salmon) nigiri and two quail egg shooters. The waitress kept saying that it was coming out next and that the staff the day we came in (during lunch hour) was backed up with sushi orders. Besides the increased price and initial awkwardness/bad service by our server Jackie, everything was great. During our Tahoe trip, we drove to Reno and celebrated my dad's birthday at Oceano. We love Oceano and have been dining here whenever we visit Reno. Prices have greatly increased, but the quality you get for the amount you pay is still better than the Bay for their all you can eat option. When asked about what they offer for birthdays as we came to celebrate my dad's birthday, Jackie said, " Ok....(points at another customer from another table) well it's that guy's birthday too...." and "We don't give anything....(awkward pause and stare)..."just a piece of cake." Our initial impression of him wasn't good since the start because of a series of odd things he did including taking away the salt, pepper, and candle from our table without asking when all other tables still had theirs. After we checked off the dishes we wanted from the menu sheet and handed the paper to him, he looked at it, crossed off an item we chose, and just walked off without explaining what he crossed off and why. I noticed his treatment towards a specific race was different. After I made comments about his service, midway his service became more normal. The other two staff members that came by to check on us were wonderful. The menu selection was vast and we liked most of the orders we put in. For the rolls we especially liked, we reordered them and enjoyed our time there. The interior is beautiful and comfortable as well with two big screens on either side of the restraint showing sceneries of different places around the world. The restaurant is clean and something new that they added were iPads to view their menu from. What an unexpected surprise/find in Reno. Oceano, just a short walk from the side parking lot and only few steps inside the doors of the Peppermill Casino. Upon entering the restaurant (with reservation) I noticed the cool esthetic & the busy atmosphere on Sunday @5:30pm. Immediately greeted and taken to our booth, within moments water and bread were on the table. Service was professional, prompt and friendly. The Oceano Menu is large and varied. Our table orders included: Shrimp Cocktail: Extra Large Shrimp (would compare to any high end Vegas restaurant). Fried Shrimp: Excellent- as good or better than the best I've had in Vegas. Salmon salad: Super fresh salad and ingredients topped with perfectly cooked Salmon filet. Sushi: Wow! Super fresh, nice sized rolls and overall excellent flavor (check out that eel)! Back to the Oceano we go for early dinner late lunch. We love the big hunk of sourdough bread on arrival at the table. They changed their menu now from a paper menu to tablet. That is fine I just hope they sanitize them every time after use. I always wash my hands before I eat, because you can't eat the bread with a fork, but then I have to touch a menu and I do know computers, phone and tablets have germs. Next time I will take the time to ask the desk at the front. I had the Crab Louie Salad and it was good but the crab was a bit dry and lacking flavor. My husband always goes for the Albacore tuna melt and it was good. This place has a great sushi bar but since I am not a sushi fan I never tried it. But I walked by a table of three and the spread of sushi they had just served knocked my socks off. It looked like enough to feed the office. Since I am not a raw fish lover I am glad I asked about their salad with tuna before ordering it. The server told me it was not cooked and I think they should note that on the menu. We love the location of this restaurant and it is right next to the poker room where we play so we eat here on occasion. I know they have great soup as they used to serve it in the poker room. We really miss that when we are playing and hungry. This place has really great atmosphere and the big massive T.V.'s are a delight. Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, we were met with a level of rudeness and unprofessionalism that completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun night out. The hostess lead (YAHARA not sure of the spelling) didn't even bother to greet us--no "hello," no smile, not even eye contact. Instead, we were met with a cold stare and an attitude that made it feel like we were an inconvenience just for showing up. We tried to ask a simple question about our reservation, but she responded with short, dismissive answers and a tone that was unnecessarily snippy. It felt like we had done something wrong just by coming to this restaurant. We came expecting a warm, welcoming atmosphere based on the buzz around this place, but what we got was the exact opposite. First impressions matter, especially in hospitality--and this one was not just bad, it was downright hostile. We ended up leaving before even being seated. There are too many great restaurants out there to waste time where you're not treated with basic respect. To MANAGEMENT: If you care about your guests and your reputation, it might be time to reevaluate who you have representing your restaurant at the front hostess desk. Diane and I ate here for the first time on a recent trip to Reno. Pleasing on the eyes, the decor of this expansive restaurant is reminiscent of all things oceanic, with the color of seafoam and seashells dominating. I began with a Sashimi Combo, a three-fish platter consisting of ample generous cuts of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail, along with slices of ginger. All sashimis were very fresh and served with Kimchi, which I happen to like. Following this fine starter came a large bowl of excellent authentic and floury New England Clam Chowder that was filled with clams, potatoes, celery and complimentary Oyster Crackers. It was hot and very filling. Complimentary extra sour Sourdough Bread and butter was a great accompaniment to sop up the soup. I then enjoyed perfectly cooked Wood-Grilled Halibut with Chardonnay Butter, Broccoli Rabe, carrots, squash, and well-seasoned Roasted Potatoes, while Diane was pleased with her Wood-Grilled Chilean Sea Bass with Chardonnay Butter, Melted Butter, and French Fries. The individual segments of white flesh of both entrees flaked off beautifully with a fork. Spacious booth seating elevated over the main dining area was comfortable, and service was excellent. We did AYCE and with the local discount, the total wasn't that expensive compared to Sushi Pier or Tokyo sushi IMO. But for sure the vibe is nicer. Well.. from the beginning it was very bad due to the customer service.. later I was surprised to find out the customer service was being received from the manger on duty Kara. I walked up to the hostess stand and said hello how are you.. Kara just darted her eyes up to mine and said good.... I asked for a booth she said they didn't have any.. reservations and all. When she sat us at our table there were 6 boots available just from our visual circumstance. Three of those booths never were seated while we were there for an hour.. later Kara came to our table to deliver some unfortunate news that pertained to our bill. It was very fixable. As she refused she was more than rude. We will never be returning because of Kara. Thanks for a terrible experience on my sister birthday. We decided to go out for my birthday dinner. We never go to casinos so we had no experience with casino restaurants, and our friends hadn't tried Oceano. I made a reservation for 6 of us. I was worried that it may be too crowded and loud, but it wasn't the case. It was well attended, but it didn't feel too busy. I'd been craving for good sushi, so we started with a bunch of sushi for appetizer. All were excellent! A half of us are Japanese so we are not easy to please, as far as fresh sushi is concerned, but their sushi met our high standards! Very pretty presentation, and no overwhelming sauce on the rolls that drowns the flavor. The entrees were all excellent. I was also very happy with the kind and pleasant server, Lestter. Thank you for making my birthday dinner memorable! The only thing that I wasn't quite happy about was the reservation system. The online reservation doesn't accept if the party is more than 6, so I had to call, but it was so noisy in the background (on their side) that it was very difficult making the conversation. We try to only do AYCE sushi on special occasions because we always tend to overeat! I was bummed to see that they only had 5pm and 8pm time slots available online for reservations. The AYCE sushi is $42.99 here for dinner which seems pricey but comes down to $34 with the 20% locals discount, so it's fairly comparable to other AYCE sushi spots in Reno. This felt like an elevated dining experience compared to other local sushi restaurants, so I support spending a little more here. The interior decor is beautiful, I was a big fan of the silver chandeliers and the massive screens showing video footage from travel destinations across the world! We aren't usually big sake fans, but decided to try one from their fruity sake category on the menu. We got a bottle of the white peach sake and it was actually so good! They brought out a huge bowl of bread at the start, it was warm and very good but we had to resist having more than 1 piece each so we could save room for sushi! We got the clam chowder, miso soup, edamame, and lumpia as appetizers. I lived in New England for 8 years and have high expectations for clam chowder; I thought this one was delicious! Great serving sizes too. All the sushi that we had tasted so fresh and had incredible flavor combinations. For the nigiri we had the Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, yellowtail tuna, and snapper. The specialty flavors were definitely my favorite of the nigiri! The fish to rice ratio was great, you definitely don't feel too overwhelmed by rice. We had 1 deep fried roll which was the Firecracker, it was filling but probably one of the rolls I enjoyed the most. The three raw rolls we had were the Temptation, Hokkaido, and Chili. My favorite out of these 3 was the Hokkaido! I love the citrus taste from the lemon paired with the yellowtail. The Chili was super interesting, it was too spicy for my husband because of the jalapeño on top, but I really enjoyed having such a spicy one! We then had gelato for dessert, I got mango and my husband got raspberry. The mango was a hit! The raspberry was good too but a bit more of a tart taste than I had expected. The gelato had big serving sizes too! Our total for AYCE sushi with appetizers and dessert plus a bottle of sake was still under $100. You can't beat that! Service was a bit slow towards the end when waiting for our bill, but it was fine because our waitress had a party of 20 nearby. Casual Monday date night without the kids. We called ahead and asked if we needed a reservation. The hostess said," No, just walk right in. " 11 minutes later we arrive at the host stand to be told it's a 45 minute wait. I made the comment that I just called and the hostess said I would walk right in. I asked why they didn't offer to take my name and why they made it sound as though there was no wait. Of the three hostesses, all of them were paralyzed and couldn't say anything. One who was closest to the iPad asks without making eye contact, "Can I get your name?" So we sat at the bar and had a round of drinks while we waited. Once the table was ready we were starved so we started with appetizers. The platter of ahi, prawn and crab meat which was amazing, followed with bbq oysters. Bbq oysters were literally oysters with bbq sauce. Not like anything I have had before and nothing like how I would like my oysters in the future. He had the ribeye and I ordered ayce sushi. Sushi was great and I loved the appetizer selection! Love the ambiance of this restaurant. Will definitely be back, with a reservation. read more

Well its been 5 years since I have been here. Came last week for a work event and we were really craving Sushi. The 3 us got the AYCE sushi Monday night. We went up to the podium at 6pm and asked about wait time. She said there was none and could be seated now. We were still waiting for one person so we opted to come back at 630. There was now a 30-40 min wait, ugh. We were seated at 7pm. It took forever for everything... the drinks, the order, the food, all of it. We told the water guy that we were getting AYCE. While waiting we were trying to make our selections so here I am writing it down on a back of an envelope. When our waiter finally comes, he give us a 2 sided order form. You can order full rolls or half rolls. It would have been nice to get that from the beginning to save time. We ordered an assortment and wondered if they were going to bring it all at once or in sections? Most AYCE bring them by item. They brought it all out at once at 7:50 pm so nearly an hour after seating. AYCE cost us $42.99 pp so a smidge high for what we got. We ended up coming back another night and ordered ala cart 3 $15 rolls and it was enough for less money. Quality of the rolls were okay. The fish seemed skimpy on each one. Some you have to really peel it apart to find a sliver. LOTS of fake crab meat and fillers to make it look bigger. AYCE is worth it if you order a lot and you have a few hours to spare. It takes a long ass time. We may have ordered a second round but didn't want to wait another hour. At least they were bigger than a quarter this time. See my old pic! read more

Love the atmosphere here and a good selection of sushi and seafood entrees. Service was fast and friendly. Food was delicious!

Some dishes were great but others weren't as enjoyable. The meal started off pretty well with warm sourdough bread and whipped butter, reasonably fresh thickly sliced sashimi (salmon, ahi and hamachi) and a spicy tuna roll, which was a tad too spicy. The fried calamari tasted good and was served with a sweet sour sauce that helped to cut the oiliness, but arrived lukewarm instead of hot. The clam chowder was thick but overly salty. The poke bowl was okay, with a generous portion of ahi. The fish and chips were good with a thick beer batter crust and lots of fries. The best dishes were the scallop appetizer and the large bacon-wrapped prawns entree. Both were perfectly cooked. The scallops had a unique red pepper sauce that added to the sweetness of the juicy scallops, but not the best choice if you don't enjoy red peppers. The prawns were served on couscous with a deliciously creamy lemon sauce. The worst entree was the rib eye steak. The steak was medium rare as requested, but tough and chewy. Yup, our fault for ordering steak at a seafood and sushi restaurant. For the price and location, however, this entree was disappointing. Of course we had to get dessert but were so full we just shared the raspberry yuzu mousse, with matcha ice cream on the side. Everyone enjoyed the slightly sweet and tart, creamy and light mousse, contrasted with the rich and smooth matcha ice cream. Our server was friendly and mostly efficient, but we'll spend our casino winnings somewhere else if we're ever in Reno again. read more

Situated in the Peppermill casino the place is quite well decorated in the ocean theme (no surprise). The decor is blue and pearl and tranquil. There is a all you can eat sushi menu but it's pretty limited and at $49 a person plus any premium items we chose to order fr the regular menu. The seafood platter is $46 and had 6 oysters, 1 large king crab leg, 2 giant prawns, and a bowl of tuna. The seafood linguini had very nicely roasted garlic in the sauce and oh sooooo much seabass and salmon. It was more than enough for 2. I came here on a Saturday night for a birthday sushi experience with two girl friends. One of them had made a reservation for us and we were seated promptly. While we waited for the other friend to show up, I took in the ambience. The restaurant is SIMPLY STUNNING. I love the colors and décor pieces. On each end of the restaurant there are two huge video screens playing stunning videos of locations all over the world. I do know many screens like this are placed throughout the casino. It's neat that they put it in the restaurant too. We made one round of All you can eat sushi and waited a good 20-30 minutes. Our waitress did let us know that the sushi chefs were super busy and the wait would be that long. Overall, customer service was decent. Sushi? Meh. I love sushi very much. I am constantly looking for the best sushi place in town, and safe to say, this is not it. While the rolls were delicious, there was just a wow factor that was missing. Some of the fish seemed cheap and fake. Obviously fish is real, but it wasn't as delicious as other places. While I had a great time for my birthday weekend and our waitress was super sweet, I don't think I'll be returning here for sushi. read more
