Didn't think I was going to have some of the better sushi I've had in my life so far inland. The handrolls were genuinely delicious, and on all of their roles they didn't skimp on the fish in favor of rice (something I've noticed has been a problem at more and more run-of-the-mill sushi restaurants). Service was a little weird... they asked if we wanted anything to drink and my mom said "tea, if it's free." They didn't say anything, brought out the tea, and charged us. Something to note is that the "tea" was hot water and tea packets from the store. We ordered water and got no refills; when I asked for a refill after trying multiple times to flag a waiter down he tried to take my water glass away because he thought I was done with it? The waiters/waitresses take your AYCE orders off memory and multiple times during the night part of our orders was missing, I'm assuming because our waitress forgot to put it in. We'd then have to ask multiple times for the rest of our order to be put in, and despite not being busy (we came at a dead hour) it was hard to get staff's attention. HOWEVER, once our waitress came off shift and someone else took over our table, service increased drastically. He was very kind and attentive and that seemed to be the experience most other people were getting. This was for the final 10 minutes of our experience though, which is why I can't honestly give my time at Oceano more than 3 stars. read more

We came in today at 5pm and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. While the food itself was great -- we ordered 6 all-you-can-eat sushi options and three entrées (sea bass, short ribs, and scallops) -- the service was incredibly slow and inefficient. We were informed upfront that there was a 2-hour dining limit, which we had no issue with. But due to the slow pacing and lack of urgency from the staff, that limit became stressful. My entrée (the scallops) didn't come out until 1 hour and 20 minutes into the meal -- well after everyone else had received their food and the table was already on the second round of sushi. We asked for the check twice, and my husband finally signed it at the 2-hour and 4-minute mark. Right then, the manager -- a woman -- came over and very bluntly rushed us out. When I shared that the slow service impacted our ability to meet the time limit, she became defensive and began explaining her position. I understand her perspective, but it was frustrating to see her prioritize other tables while minimizing our experience. It's simple: if you're going to enforce strict time limits, your service team needs to match that same urgency. Don't penalize guests for delays that weren't on them. We came to enjoy a nice meal, not feel like we were being pushed out the door. read more

Can you honestly have too much of a good thing? When it comes to sushi definitely not! And at Ocean, located at the Peppermill, you certainly will not be disappointed. Probably some of the best sushi in town and for AYCE dining at about $42, you will be satisfied with so many choices you can enjoy at your leisure. You're not rushed there. Of course, you want to follow the etiquette of sushi and finish what you order. The screens all around give you a wonderful look at all the worlds best sights and the casual decorum of the restaurant allows you to dress nice or dress casual, but make sure you look nice and not fresh out the gym. Back once again. Yelp has designated us as regulars. Whoohoo! You have to book a reservation about a week in advance by calling the restaurant directly. They provide a iPad to look at the menu which is cool. Tonight Gisell was our waitress along with Sam her assistant. Both definitely provided excellent service making our dining experience exceptional. I started with a bowl of clam chowder and it was full of clams and was so delicious. Went here for my wife's birthday. We ordered vegetable tempura and calamari for appetizer and it was just okay especially couldn't justify the price coz the serving is less than expected. For our main entree, we ordered 3 medium well ribeye steak (ordered 4th ribeye after the ramen we ordered smells funky). Taste was okay and it was well cooked except 1, it's more of medium rare which we don't like. Order of chicken tenders with sweet potato fries for kids, seafood linguini which was excellent. 2 orders of sf cajun medley it was good but mostly sausages, we expect to have more of the seafood than sausages. Ten Don Buri, Baja fish tacos and BF Suki bowl was okay. Service was okay. Our food was served pretty quick but not happy after that because we didn't get offer for our water to be filled. We were staying at the Peppermill Resort and a friend recommended Oceano, saying they had great seafood. Sounded good so we didn't have to leave the property and stayed at the pool longer. We originally had an 8pm resie as that's all they had open, but were able to switch it to 7, thus our table wasn't as good at the side of the restaurant near the sushi bar. Our waitress was pleasant and service was efficient. We started with cups of clam chowder soup ($10/each), which were more like a bowl and could easily be split between two people. It was very good but super rich and we couldn't finish it. We then had the ahi tuna tower, with delicious red sushi, avocado and crispy won tons for $26. It was stacked with 3 so perfect appetizer. My husband had the oyster shooter ($14) which he enjoyed with Bloody Mary mix and tequila. We then split the Pacifica crab and shrimp sandwich with Jack cheese on buttery sourdough. It was a little cold as we saw it sitting there for 5 minutes. It was very similar to Nick's Rockaway in Pacifica and came with fries and coleslaw ($26). Very good but again very filling and we took much of it to go. They also had all you could eat sushi for $45 but it was a 45 minute wait. Many diners were having sushi so assume that was good. Out and out the best hotel restaurant in the united states. I'm even willing to overlook the fact that one must walk through a cigarette smoke-filled casino to get to the restaurant. There's seafood is outstanding. Third time in a row I've had the fried shrimp, and it can't be beat anywhere. Fresh, lightly battered, plump, seasoned to perfection, and plentiful. The french fries are nothing to write home about, but they're pretty good also. This time I had a calamari appetizer. It was some of the best calamari I've ever eaten. There's a clear dipping sauce that comes with the calamari that is out of this world. Order a side of this dipping sauce for the shrimp, and you won't be disappointed. The shrimp does come with a side of cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and a small bowl of coleslaw. I'm not a tartar sauce fan, but this tartar sauce is pretty good. Service was fantastic. I was seated at the sushi bar, not my favorite place to sit, but dining alone, I wasn't ready to wait 60 minutes for a table. They also offer a plethora of non sushi offerings, including all of your favorite seafood - Oysters, lobster, shrimp, scallops, + more- along with steaks, soups, holiday offerings, and so much more. Their miso soup is a standout and has a nice umami and perfectly balanced flavor. As compared to other soups that taste rushed, with a simple water+paste recipe, their version has a more developed + umami flavor. While most of their appetizers are delicious, I'd caution against their chicken wings due to a overpowering + salty sauce. Don't miss out on their complimentary sourdough bread, just say yes when they offer it as they sit you down. It's baked fresh daily in-house, and it's oh so good. Crunchy on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside, with that classic sourdough taste that's reminiscent of San Francisco. Pair that guy with clam chowder and mask sure to skip the all you can eat sushi option when opting for bread, because you will eat it all up 100 percent, especially because it comes with such delicious butter that's perfectly salted. It's been absolute years since I've been here. We came here long before they had all you can eat sushi. Strangely I don't think we've actually been here for all you can eat sushi lol. I was in the mood for oysters after having a long day, and was heading downtown and saw a Peppermill and thought why not Oceanos. We've always had great experiences here. It took me a minute to get her attention, but it's a Friday night and pretty busy. Once she greeted me, I instantly liked her lol. I ordered a dozen oysters at the first, but noticed they had Spanish octopus, and I asked her if I could change my order. She actually went in the back to make sure that it wasn't complete. It wasn't, so she changed up my order. Wife arrived a little later than I did. The oysters were definitely good. A Spanish octopus was a bit different. I've had Spanish octopus a quad a few places in town. This one, I was in slices and It had a 'meaty' taste. It had cubed potatoes. My wife agreed that something was almost beefy lol. After clearing my palate and tasting a few times, it almost tasted like bone marrow, maybe just cooked in beef fat/lard. It was definitely greasy. Food was delicious! Service was outstanding! Decor and dining room vibes impeccable! We tried a variety of items and the iPad menu made it easy to browse and decide on food and beverages. The scallops appetizer was delicious. The Korean BBQ oysters was my far my favorite. The seasoning was perfection and it has that after kick of heat that made it stand out. I liked it so much that I requested the chef prepare my Korean short ribs with the same seasoning... he did and sent his "love" to us for the request so thanks Chef Ricardo!!! My sister took my niece and I to lunch at Oceano Restaurant, located on the main casino floor of the Peppermill Casino. When we arrived at the restaurant, the restaurant was full of diners but our 3-person party was easily accommodated at a nearby table in the huge dining area. We were then handed some tablets which served as the restaurant's menu (fancy) and our delightful server: Marina, appeared soon after to take our order. We ordered a half-dozen oysters on a half shell for starters, the Oceano Trio (half a lobster roll, coleslaw and a cup of clam chowder) for my sister and I while my niece ordered a cheeseburger with a side of fries and coleslaw(?). Most of the food arrived in a timely manner (we had to remind our server about the oysters) and everyone enjoyed each of their meals. I've gone here once before and recently went for my birthday. I don't recall what I ordered from my first visit, I want to say the same thing as to what I got again which is a lobster roll because I love lobster and what another way of eating it on bread? ABSOLUTELY! The only reason why I'm giving this place a rate of 4 is because of the service. Friendly and sweet waiters/waitresses who were serving a table of 7 people, one of them forgot to hand out my husband's alcohol drink and his sushi condiments/utility which is normal, but we also waited for about 30 mins for all of us to get our food. Before we get into the ramen, I have to say this was THE BEST SALMON I have had in Reno. It was melt in your mouth, wonderful. The ramen itself was also really great!! We stopped in midafternoon for a spontaneous lunch because I had a clam chowder craving. The bowl was a large portion and it was filled with clams (needed more potatoes) and had nice seasonings. My hubby had a Pacifica sandwich, which had a generous helping of shredded crab salad! The bread was perfectly toasted and encased the crab deliciously. Their fries are good too! Coleslaw that came with was refreshing as a side dish. Service from out waitperson Amy was kind and attentive. And the restaurant is just beautiful and a very pleasant place to dine. I love the Nigiri sushi as it is not loaded down with rice leaving one to savor the topping. Same with the handrolls, more flavor, less rice. Great AYCE sushi experience; would 100% come back. Table is first set with sourdough bread and lots of whipped butter. SO HARD to resist when you know you have a sushi feast coming, but I did my best to hold off. We had iPads to order as much to our hearts content and the AYCE came with a bunch of appetizers if you wanted them; like clam chowder soup, miso, chicken wings, baked clams, and more. I tried a bite of chowder, which was decent--but I'd try to avoid filling myself up with it. The chicken wing was nice and crispy and a great flavor and the clams were delish. The sushi/rolls were all really good and fresh tasting. I do wish the AYCE included some of the specialty options like the uni, scallops, and others...or at least I wish there was a tier of price points for those items, but I understand that maybe that would make it more unpredictable. We had the fish and chips and another soup-like dish with scallops, shrimp and little bit of lobster. The creamy broth in this dish had a sweet taste to it that ruined the seafood. Fish and chips had batter peeling off the fish which was sitting on top of a bed of soggy as fries. Oh well, at least the soggy is consistent on this dish. Never seen fish and chips served in a bowl before, the steam from everything in small container made everything wet and soggy. None of this food was good. The bread that was put on the table was way better than the entrees. Service was OK, the waiter was hustling his tips. Ambiance was really nice to look around, lots of cool lights. Some odd bullshit going on with table availability, they said 15 to 20 minute wait. When they texted us the table was ready we walked past 8 to 10 tables and booths that were empty. AYCE sushi is super popular in Reno which I feel like I don't see often in San Diego, so I was excited to come here. We had a reservation and were seated within 10 minutes. At every seat, there was an iPad with a menu for you to scroll. We all decided to share our sushi but ordered salmon, yellowtail, and tuna nigiri. They also had specialty nigiri that have crab and avocado on top that had funny names like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. If you partake in the AYCE option (which is well worth it!), consider ordering hand rolls for a good majority of your meal. The umami flavors of each specialty roll just tastes better as a hand roll. If you like nigiri, they have every variation you can think of although the fish could have been fresher. For starters, miso soup, clam chowder, veggie lumpia, wings and edamame are great options. If you have room for dessert after chowing down, ice cream/sorbet is included with your meal. The raspberry sorbet ended the meal well for me and helped cleanse my palette. Service was attentive from start to finish. Ambiance was pretty awesome and the restaurant was beautiful. Too bad it's located on the casino floor and very hard to find. read more

Some ppl got off the menu and most of us did the all you can eat sushi, which was so good. We're locals so we got the 20% discount if you join the club. I'm the worst but one of the Asian regulars got us champagne for our wedding. Thank you to him!! As we were not even planning to have it. Overall will be coming here annually for our anniversary. When he directed us to a very small booth, I requested a larger one, as one side of the booth adjacent to ours was blocked by a large walker for an elderly gentleman. The host indicated the other booths were reserved, however, they were never occupied the entire time we had our very leisurely lunch. The people at the adjacent booth were extremely loud and made it difficult to converse. We enjoyed the quality of the sushi, but management needs to coach the host. After our last experience, i was not ever planning on going back. I appreciate that they reached out to me and asked for us to give another try. This really shows they care about thier service! Our waitress was Hannah and it was a better experience this time. She had a smile the whole time, introduced herself, and was like this with others she was serving as well. We will definitely ask for her when we go. She made sure our water was filled, checked to make sure that we didn't need anything else. Afterwards she brought out warm wash clothes that had a great scent. I don't think we've ever been given these in all the years we've been. I did try a new roll. A spider hand roll that has soft shell crab. I think this is my all time favorite now. It was light, crunchy and so good. My husband's favorite that we got to try this time was the pot stickers. The mixed grill included salmon, halibut and sea bass which were nicely cooked. My only issue: All the wait staff looked sad. It felt like they had lost their puppy.
