I have a Mercedes C230 and have always taken my car to the dealer for servicing. When asking friends where they take their cars no one could tell me a place they trust that could work on a Mercedes. I started to do some research and came across these reviews on yelp. I spoke to Randy and could not have been more pleased with the quote he gave me. But most importantly I was treated as if my business really mattered. The team was responsive, honest and the service was excellent. In addition, the price was reasonable. This was the first time since I have owned my car that I was not told that my car needed some sort of future repair... i.e.: brakes! Tires! You name it. When I go to the dealer it feels like it is always something. I came away feeling as if Octane serviced my car and did not try to get me to purchase an item or service I really did not need at the time. After months of dreading the need to take my car to the dealer for a 30k service (service A) I decided to try out one of the local independent shops. I came across Octane and was impressed with their Yelp rating. Long story short, they took me in the next day, charged me a very reasonable price (I'm sure a lot more affordable than the dealer) and got the job done very professionally. It's been a couple weeks since I left Octane after Randy told me rudely that I should look for another mechanic. That was THE only time he was right, and i did. I was hesitant to write a review but the way he treated me was unprofessional and I had no choice. I have no problems paying for service that is needed for my car. Randy will make you pay for unnecessary service. I went to Octane because one of my buddies worked there. I trusted his work and followed him for a couple years. After he left earlier this year, I continued at Octane assuming I was going to be treated the same. Little did I know, that's when the shady side of Randy came out. On two separate occasions within a month of fixing my blown gasket at Octane, Randy presented me a bill for over $300 and said if I do not pay then I can not pick up my car. I specifically told him to tell me what the diagnose was first before fixing it but he never did. He went ahead and fixed everything without my permission and just gave me the bill. He claims that he called me but I can tell he was pushing me around already. I also asked him to look into my tail light because the housing the burnt and that was going to be another $300. I called around and found out there was a recall on my tail light and Randy did not even know this. I brought it into the real MB dealership and they fixed it within a day at NO CHARGE. I understand that Octane has so many cars to work on that they just want to fix everything before their customers giving them the OK, but that was not working with me. Randy knew he was pushing me around and I allowed it the first time but not the second. After I called around to different mechanics, I was not surprised to hear that they have been getting calls to work on their MB because they were also leaving Octane and Randy's unprofessional service. I've just recently had the B Service performed on my car in addition to a flex disk repair and I am still VERY, VERY, VERY PLEASED with Octane's service all around. Octane also conducts warranty work, so I really wish more Benz owners were aware of this place as it is such a great find for many reasons. I obtained a very low miles 1996 Mercedes 320E from out of state. I took it to a couple shops and realized it had a major problem that would cost 1000s to repair, plus it needed new brake pads. I did not want to trust the repair to a shop that did not specialize in Mercedes and the local Mercedes dealerships have very bad reputations. Enter Octane, which has several Mercedes master rated mechanics. I saw all the positive Yelp reviews and decided to give them a try. Gwen helped me get oriented and they took a look at my car. She was almost apologetic telling me what I already knew, that I needed a major repair and brake pads. Since I'd had this car diagnosed at two shops previously it was no surprise to me, but it made me feel better that they confirmed the diagnosis and also were not looking to make major repairs on my car. They fixed my car quickly and a several thousand miles later I've had no problems. The amount they charged me was very reasonable for the repair and far less than a dealer would charge. I'm sure the work is better than anyone in the area would do as well. They found some other items they recommended addressing in several thousand miles. If they'd have told me to do it now I'd have done so, but they said there was no need and they also told me what maintenance would be a waste of money in the meantime and answered tons of questions I had about how to maintain the vehicle. They also installed my front license plate for no charge and did not charge me for some fluids they added. Since then they've helped me get my car's smog check issues dealt with. They did not charge me anything for this work and I even tried to get them to take money for helping me get my smog issues worked out. They did diagnostic work on my car to me sure my computer was OK and took it to a smog place they work with and then helped me find a referee station which passed my car, allowing me to get my plates before my temporary registration expired. I've met the owner Randy and he's a real class act. I am writing this review because I'd really like to see this shop do well so I can keep taking my Mercedes here. I plan to keep it for many years and I need a good shop. I don't know what I'd have done without help from Octane. They are the BEST and I am very grateful for their help! read more

Just got my annual service and everything went smoothly. Randy said since I didn't drive too many miles, that it didn't need the full service which saved me $$. There was one other problem that they fixed and when I picked up the car it looked new again - washed inside and out and ready to go. Please open up a second location in LA!? I had the fortunate experience of finding Octane right after i bought my used ML. Randy checked it out from top to bottom and noticed a few minor things. I really appreciated his honesty. The second time i went he didn't even charge me anything! Bring your car to any LA Mercedes dealership and problem or no problem they will charge you just for the inconvenience of looking! I drove a couple times between SF and LA before finally making the permanent move south. Now i'm down here and having a horrible time trying to find a reputable, honest, reliable mercedes specialist. I miss you Octane - it was the start of a beautiful relationship - cut short! But hey....next time i feel like a road trip up to San Fran i will be sure to make a stop at Octane. This is one of the greatest shops ever. I wish they would also work on other manufacturers, but that's how it works. As a MB specialist, they should stick with what they do best. I love Octane, I've been taking my 2004 Mercedes CLK 320 for two years. Being not so savvy about cars, it is very important for me to find a mechanic I can trust who won't take advantage of me and can clearly explain problems to me. Randy and his team do a great job of this. Randy even called my dad for me to go over all his suggestions for my car so my dad (who is car savvy) could decide if they were legitimate and well-priced---all of them were. Randy was also extremely helpful recently referring and advising me on replacing my tires. I would highly recommend his shop. read more

I've been here a few time as of late, I bought a 2006 Mercedes from a dealer and its been a great little car but its had a few minor things that needed some assistance. For example my fan started randomly running intermittently even when the car wasn't hot. This symptom wouldn't repeat all the time. The team at Octane looked it over and ran a diagnostic but they couldn't get the symptom to repeat or find any errors on the diagnostic. Randy asked if could keep my car for a day or two longer just to be through and he paid for me to get a rental car while my car was being reviewed. The next day Randy called me that they found the problem, a small strange code came up in the diagnostic that wasn't an error but when traced back they found that there was strange message related to my AC. This led them to check out the wiring in my AC and it appears that i was missing a front tire liner which had allowed some wires to get a little shredded from the road causing the car to thing think the AC was over heated when it wasn't. It ended up being a simple fix but it was really about the effort the team went through to track down the problem and paying for me to have a car while they investigated. The other things where replacing an old battery, and having a schedule B maintenance done. The team is always super nice, and extra bonus they always wash my car after every job, which I love! I'll be going back the next time I need something. read more

Randy (the owner) over at Octane is a total class act. I just brought my '01 CLK in to be serviced this week, with a bit of front-end body damage, in desperate need of a detail, and with some stitching loose in one of the seats. Not only did he complete the service, but he also took the car to get an estimate of the front-end damage, and in turn is taking care of the body repairs for us at the neighboring body shop and working with my insurance company to get everything squared away, in addition to having the car detailed and the stitching redone, all for no extra charge. Being someone with a limited amount of time to deal with all of this, it's been a huge help! He has always been beyond thorough and has even offered me the choice of the various types of Mercedes brakes that they can use on my next brake job, since I had the "low brake dust" ones unknowingly put on four years ago at another shop, which have very poor grip and feel. Randy has always happily gone the extra mile for me for the past few years i've been bringing my car there - I only wish I had known about Octane sooner. read more

While I didn't have these guys perform the necessary work on my car they were still a pleasure to work with. It was actually my girlfriends SLK Benz that was having some issues. Took it to them and both Mark and Randy were very cordial and gave it to me straight. I've dealt with my share of mechanics and I could tell that these guys were honest and knew there stuff. After reading the positive reviews, I brought in my S430 last month to have a comprehensive issue fixed with my Airmatic system. Had an excellent experience with Randy & team, they not only fixed that issue but also repaired one or two other minor ones for free. They're a top notch crew who after my experience and reading those of so many others, I believe they can be trusted (often the number one issue with auto repair shops!). I'm a little bit paranoid about things I know nothing about...like cars. I also had never owned a nice one until recently. I had a crummy experience at the SF Mercedes dealership, so I wasn't sure what to do. I called Randy to ask a few questions just to feel him out. Took my 12 year old low mileage MBZ C230 in for an oil change, battery replacement and any other work Randy felt I may need. I received honest, first class service. No unnecessary work was done. I even paid less that the original estimate because less work was needed. Randy, Jeff and Sam are all terrific. This place makes me want to buy another Mercedes because I want all my cars to be serviced by Randy and his team. Could not recommend a better place for your MBZ. My car was returned cleaner that when I brought it in (and its very clean to begin with). This place gets 5 stars in my book, and I'm a tough grader. read more

After horrible experiences getting service at Mercedes-Bens of San Francisco (they made outrageous quotes, broke systems while servicing then did not deal with me in good faith -- all a scam to try to convince me to buy a new car because I have 100k miles?) I came over to Randy and Octane and don't dread service anymore. They are always straightforward and they explain what is wrong, what needs to be done, and present options. Thank god for Yelp. And thank the lord for Randy and his entire team at Octane (Drew, Mark, Sandra and anyone else I left out). I recently bought an E320. It's in beautiful shape for an 18-year-old car. It had almost 135,000 miles on it, and unfortunately there were various parts that had reached the end of their useful life. I found Octane on Yelp. I've ended up putting several thousand dollars into repairs, actually more than I paid to buy the car. That's no one's fault, and the repairs have been great. Most importantly, I have total confidence in the work that Octane has done. Just today, I found that my car wouldn't start. I was parked at a meter -- and somewhat frantic! I called and asked Randy about solenoids, fuses, relays, etc. He suggested that I put the car into neutral -- and it started right up. Thank Christ!!! The problem is a bad "neutral safety switch". If it wasn't for the fact that I was able to get right through and that Randy was there to talk me through this, I would have been majorly screwed! O-M-G! I would never have guessed that part of the "neutral safety switch" was bad, and the other part was good -- allowing me to start the car for now in neutral. Holy luck, Batman. I've never been a Mercedes kind of guy. I'm a bleeding-heart liberal Democrat. But this is a beautiful car, and I'm happy I bought it despite the ongoing parts failures. I went 4 years without owning a car. So I think I deserve to have a nice car like this E320 for a while. I don't think Randy or his team would give a damn who I was or wasn't. They have the utmost respect for these cars, and they obviously know exactly what they are doing. It's a crying shame that many other people do not have the work ethic that they have at Octane. If you have a Mercedes and want it to be cared for as best as it can be, you're nuts if you don't take it to Octane where they will give it the attention it deserves. End of story. Oh wait ... not quite. I also realize each time I've taken my car in ... that I'm pretty sure they wash and/or wax the car. And other things just seem to work better than they did when I brought it in. It's hard to explain. I'm not positive about any of that, but every time I've returned to pick up my car, it's beautiful. read more

(By the way, they are shitty both in LA and SF ... as if my C-class doesn't deserve their attention) He explains things clearly, and offers a lower price that the authorize dealer. He knows what he is talking about. It's still on the pricier side of things but for a 30K plus car, you want someone who knows what he's doing. I have been here twice and highly recommend this place, (although I don't want to because that means more wait time for me). I have had multiple opportunities to return to Octane over the last two years, and every visit has been as pleasant an experience as the first. Randy is always thorough and forthright; tells me what work should be done right away and what can wait for awhile. Awesome shop full of great people. I had been towed to their shop at 2am because my car broke down in San Francisco. I called in the morning to ask if they could feed the meter (because I was coming from San Jose), and Pablo paid for the maximum time. When I arrived there, I decided to have my car towed home because the repair wasn't in the budget at the moment. And when I offered to pay Pablo back for parking, he refused to take my money! While they do a good job on some easy repairs why would you bring your car to a place that not an authorized repair center for your $30,000+ car? I have a ML and Steve at MB San Francisco has been taking car of it for years after my wife brought it to Octane they did fix it but they do not have the latest updates on the computers and tools, only MB dealers have these. Most newer MB's are diagnosed via a specialized computer and the dealership is the only ones who have the latest updates. Octane and Randy are professional but why take your car to a place where the tech are not trained on the latest repair technics and who don't have the latest training. Prices are similar so not sure why you'd trust your car to a place thats not authorized by the builder of your Mercedes... read more
