If you're a foodie who appreciates innovative, thoughtfully crafted food without the pretentiousness, Odd Duck is an absolute must. This farm-to-table gem does an incredible job of taking fresh, seasonal ingredients and turning them into dishes with unexpected flavor combinations you didn't know you needed in your life. Everything feels intentional; not overly fussy or "frilly," just creative, flavorful, and beautifully executed. We had the cast iron cornbread with grilled onion butter (a must-order), the fried quail, and what might honestly be one of the best restaurant desserts I've ever had: the icebox oatmeal cake. The house-made pickled seasonal vegetables were also incredible and added such a fun, fresh element to the meal. Service also notably added to the experience, everybody from the person who took our order to the ones who brought out the dishes were friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Our server gave great recommendations and clearly had experience dealing with first timers. Highly recommend ordering: The cast iron cornbread with grilled onion butter Fried quail House-made seasonal pickled vegetables The icebox oatmeal cake (seriously, don't skip dessert) They also have really fun cocktails and mocktails that pair perfectly with the food. The atmosphere is intimate and slightly moody, making it the perfect spot for an elevated date night, while the patio offers a more relaxed vibe with cozy string lights and a great outdoor feel. This was easily one of my favorite meals in Austin. Make a reservation ahead of time, and be sure to give yourself extra time for South Lamar traffic.. I'm telling you it's worth the trip.
Odd Duck is a perfect setting for a nice (but not too upscale or too casual) dining experience! I came here with a few friends to celebrate my birthday, and loved all the little touches that made for a wonderful dinner. They printed "Happy birthday" on the menus they served us, which was so thoughtful. We shared 7 dishes amongst the 4 of us, and it was a good amount of food. I didn't care much for the braised goat pizza, but everything else ranged from pretty good to great, and my favorite dish was the cabbage pakora. I think this was my first time trying chicken heart, so that was a cool experience as well. I wouldn't say every dish was a 10/10, but I appreciated the variety and like that they have a rotating menu so I can try different things during different months/seasons. I don't remember which cocktails we ordered, but they were all solid. The service was wonderful, and I loved the sorbet champagne they gifted me for my birthday. Lovely ambience and interior. Would definitely come back!
Sister restaurant to Barley Swine and Sour Duck, Odd Duck certainly is certainly not to be outdone by her siblings. A mix of fine dining and casual dining, Odd Duck boasts the delicacies of upper echelon cuisine while without its gaudiness. We had the grilled wagyu, pork belly chalupa, fried quail, cast iron cornbread, the ceviche, and the fettucine. Odd Duck delivered spectacularly and there were no misses that night. Standout dishes for me were the cornbread and the quail, definitely must-orders. Quail may seem unorthodox, but the sauce at the bottom fleshes out the taste in such a way that I found myself spooning the sauce after the quail was demolished. We went for a birthday and the service was fantastic, the atmosphere was perfect, and of course the food was spectacular.
We came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday, and it ended up being one of the most memorable meals of the trip. What I loved most is how creative everything is. It's not your typical menu, but somehow every combination just works. I ordered the kimchi alfredo fettuccine with shrimp and pork sausage, and I won't lie, I didn't know what to expect. But it was so good. Rich, flavorful, slightly unexpected in the best way. As a table, we shared a few appetizers, and the standout for me was the cast iron cheddar cornbread with grilled onion butter. When I say I could've eaten three of those by myself, I mean it. It was warm, perfectly textured, and that butter melting into it... unreal. Of course we had to do dessert, and I tried both the strawberry profiterole and the oatmeal icebox cake. Both were incredible, but in completely different ways. Light, indulgent, balanced, everything you want to end a meal like this. The whole experience felt fun, elevated, and just different enough to make it special. Definitely a place you go for a celebration or when you want a meal you'll actually remember.
We had great service and view, we were in the patio but ac and covered so we can see the city. Food was not basic, it was different but tasty. Ceviche, and cornbread were so good. We wouldve gotten a second cornbread if we werent so full. Mains we got pork chops and wagyu, so soft and tender. Drinks were strong so i needed the carbs. They were so great and wed go back. Valet is complimentary.
Everything was amazing!! From the hostess to the bartender/server, to the drinks, the ambiance, the staff and of course the food!! We ordered everything that was recommended on the reviews and oh boy!! They were right. If you were to ask what my favorite was, it will be hands down the jalapeño cornbread. Recommend eating it while it's warm, it will melt in your mouth.
Great dinner spot. Came here for dinner on a Monday night with my partner. We had a reservation so we got seated right away. The place was pretty busy even on a Monday evening so I'd recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Started off the evening with their housemade Ginger Ale. The ginger flavor is quite strong so I waited for some of the ice to melt and even ended up adding some water to it. For dinner we shared the Redfish Ceviche, Beer Battered Romanesco Broccoli, Cast Iron Cheddar Cornbread, Pork Belly Chalupa, and Braised Goat Pizza. My personal favorite was the ceviche, the coconut lemongrass broth was delicious. My partner's fave was the cornbread, which was a very close second for me. The rest of the dishes were great as well. Glad we got to try this place!
10+ years in business. Do they still have it? Ten years ago today, 2/9, took my now wife on a date to Odd Duck. Was worried that, like with all restaurants, quality and service declines. We arrived and they greeted us and congratulated us on our anniversary and thanked us for returning. We sat at the bar and the server was such a cool, dude, who also congratulated us on our anniversary. To start, the restaurant gave us some bubbly which was great. We then ordered the Texas Pickles, the cast iron corn bread, pork belly chalupa and grilled wagyu eith tater tots. Everything came out as it was being cooked, all perfectly timed. The texas pickles were a variety of veggies, all pickled and all absolutely exquisite. Next up was the cast iron cornbread and Jesus F Christ, it was amazing! We demolished it. The pork belly chalupa was next and boy was it a treat. Loaded with pork belly, veggies and salsa, it was one to remember. Our final entree was the wagyu steak and tot. I don't even know what to say. It was just phenomenal and just melted in yiur mouth. The house made tots were unlike anything I've seen but so perfectly and deliciously crafted. Perfectly square crunchies with soft, pillowy inside. Whenwe thought we were done, to celebrate our anniversary, they brings us a strawberry ice cream dessert with olive oil croutons that was so good, it left me speechless. It was just magical and everyone should try it. All our servers were just such a joy to speak to them. All had great attitudes and eager to help. The staff made this evening even better. Still worth it? Absolutely. Possibly even better than 10 years ago. Impeccable food and impeccable staff.
Easily one of my top three favorite farm-to-table restaurants in Austin. I always try to grab a seat at the bar or chef's counter because that's where the energy feels the best and you get a closer look at the care that goes into each dish. The menu is on the smaller side, but that only makes it feel more intentional. Every dish is thoughtfully executed, beautifully presented, and cooked with so much precision. I always order the espresso martini because it truly hits differently here, along with the chicken heart skewer, which is incredibly rich, tender, and full of flavor. From there, we usually add another appetizer and a protein entrée, whether it's steak or fish, and I honestly haven't had a bad dish yet. Everything is consistently cooked perfectly and feels unique enough to make the meal memorable every time. Overall, this is one of those restaurants that always feels special, whether you're stopping in for a casual dinner at the bar or celebrating something more meaningful.
Food is amazing. Shareable portions and great ambiance. Ate by the bar and everyone is so friendly, service is great, would definitely come eat here again.
We made reservations through Resy pretty seamlessly for a date night. Not sure if the parking was valet only, it seemed like they had so many cones around a fairly empty parking lot. We were able to find street parking easily As we walked in, we were greeted friendly and seated very fast. The vibes inside the restaurant is super nice with a diverse set of seating options available. The menu is variable and since it's a farm to table restaurant, the menu items will change by the season. The waitress suggested that for two people, 4 menu items would be sufficient, and that's what we got. The food quality and flavor are definitely above average, but we weren't absolutely blown away by the flavors, and the portions are rather small. Nice for a good casual date night. Happy hour seemed decent. Service was great
The Odd Duck impresses with creative dishes, strong execution, thoughtful and warm service (thank you John), and quite delicious (and balanced) cocktails. Recommend sitting at the chef's counter to watch the well-run kitchen at work. Redfish ceviche my wife and I both thought it was one of the best things we had eaten recently Pork Chop with fish caramel extremely creative dish with very strong depth of flavor. I loved it but my wife thought it a bit pungent Antelope Tataki nice and tender, meat forward, lacked the depth of flavor of the other dishes Carrot cake incredibly delicious and I don't even like carrot cake 5/5 would go out of my way to visit
We grabbed seats at the chef's counter, and it made the whole experience even better to be able to watch the team prepping and thoughtfully plate each dish. Of course we ordered the legendary cornbread, and it absolutely lived up to the hype: unbelievably moist, packed with flavor, and perfectly complimented by the green onion butter. The ceviche was bright and refreshing, with a hint of lemongrass that elevated every bite, and the broccoli was perfectly cooked with incredible texture and depth of flavor. The staff was warm, attentive, and paced the meal beautifully so nothing felt rushed. Even though we were completely stuffed, we couldn't skip the strawberry shortcake and I'm so glad we didn't. The whole restaurant had cozy, homey, comforting vibes that made us want to linger and come back again. I was recommended this place by multiple friends and it was absolutely delicious and the best experience!

My friend and I visited Odd Duck during the week for happy hour and dinner, and everything was outstanding from start to finish. We began with the cast iron cheddar cornbread, which was absolutely amazing, perfectly moist, with the leek butter complementing it beautifully. We also ordered the pork belly sliders and the ceviche, and both dishes were fantastic. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the drinks were equally enjoyable. Every bite and sip felt thoughtful and well-executed. A wonderful experience overall, and we will definitely be back. read more

This place was a great way to end my trip in Austin! Loved the farm-ish vibes inside. They pride themselves in fresh, farm-to-table ingredients and dishes! Family style is the way to go in order to try all their delish menu options. Out of everything I tried, the pork chop and stuffed quail are a must! It was my first time trying quail and it was delicious! The pork chop came on top of a bed of congee topped with peaches, jalapeños, and more delish ingredients. It gave the perfect blend of savory with a touch of sweetness. The service was awesome! So so kind and informative about the menu! I highly recommend this place when visiting Austin! read more

With a 4.6 rating after more than 3,000 reviews, Odd Duck really speaks for itself. The ambience is upscale, but not pretentious. I joined my boyfriend for a weekday happy hour. I was not dressed up in the slightest and did not feel out of place. They have lots of options for seating depending on what you're in to. We took the Chef's Counter because we like to watch the kitchen action. Our server was super friendly and helpful as we asked about different items on the menu. She was really timely and spaced our courses out perfectly. For our cocktails, we had the Draft Watermelon Fresca and the Flower Power, both of which were amazing but we really loved the Watermelon Fresca. It's also $5 cheaper on happy hour! We shared four different items: Texas Pickles, Honeydew Melon (with chicken skin), Thai Peach Salad (with crispy pork belly), and Braised Goat Pizza. There was not a single thing we didn't like, but I think our favorite was the peach salad. The flavors and textures were just so on point with that dish. The pickles were fresh and had a great smokey flavor to them. The melon dish was super fun with the crunch of chicken skin and smooth herbiness of the whipped goat cheese. The stark difference in flavors between the mole and feta on the pizza left a lasting impact on us as well. We also took a pint of their Chocolate Cinnamon Masa Marshmallow ice cream home with us. It is just devine. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes from Odd Duck! read more
Had a chance to eat here while in Austin and loved it!! Service and food 5+/5. Wish we had time to go back a second time. The food was unique but oh so tasty. Sometimes when places get creative, the delivery is hit or miss but not Odd Duck. Everything we ordered off the September menu was on point! The watermelon chalupa (5+/5) - love watermelon but never imagined it in a savory dish. This was a winner and I'd order again. Braised goat pizza (4/5) - so interesting and yummy. Worth trying but I wouldn't order again because I would want to try other things! Aged wagyu burger (10/5) - I'm still thinking about this burger - it was that good. The fried beer cheese was melty in the best way. Burger cooked perfectly. Melon semifreddo (4/5) - really good and worth trying once, but every item on the dessert menu looked amazing. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Casual atmosphere but saw lots of date nights going on. Parking is mostly street parking although they do have valet. We parked 1-2 blocks away and walked given the nice weather. read more
Came here over the summer with some friends for a nice dinner in Austin. The vibe is casual and homey. Our server was super friendly and gave great advice on what and how many dishes to order. Most of the dishes we got were good but overall didn't love it. This is what we had: - Watermelon chalupa 4/5: this dish was fresh and tasty - Summer squash salad 4/5: this was delicious, I enjoyed the toasted pecans - Cast iron cheddar cornbread 5/5: amazing, definitely a dish that needs to be shared with more than 2 people - Stuffed quail 3/5: was alright, nothing special - Aged wagyu burger 3/5: was cooked to order but a little too salty for my taste - Tagliatelle pasta 1/5: the pasta noodles itself were cooked very well but the sauce was inedibly salty, not sure if it was because of the chorizo. We told our server and they remade the dish for us (complimentary) but it still tasted the exact same second time around. Overall, I enjoyed the farm-to-table ingredients, just didn't love the execution of the dishes. I would give this place 4 stars instead of 3 because the service was excellent. read more
get the cornbread. i don't care if you get anything else but the cornbread is a MUST TRY. other dishes were hit or miss - wagyu steak was pretty rare but fried broccoli and chicken skins were good i liked the little outdoor area they sat us in, and they were kind enough to let us stay till closing and even gave us advice for where we should go out that night read more
When visiting our son in Austin, we love going to restaurants with small plates and splitting the dishes between the three of us. We each chose 2 dishes, which gave us a nice well-rounded dinner, then split one dessert. We would absolutely order all of the small plates again, but the Tres Leches kind of fell flat. Our table's top two favorite dishes of the night were the cast iron cheddar cornbread (that charred eggplant muhammara butter on top really made it special) and the jerk shrimp. Our server did a nice job recommending items and checked in on us often. As with most restaurants in Austin, Odd Duck is casual and you see people dressed from very casual to dressed up. It was freezing, so I highly recommend dressing for that. read more

The most amazing dish was the fried broccoli & chicken skins - such unexpected flavors with the pickled stems and amazing dill dressing. The Thai salad was packed with layers of flavor. Cornbread was surprisingly good - very moist, perfect balance of sugar and salt. read more

So happy they have a vegan menu! Makes my BF's night much easier. Our waitress was great - took care of us & attentive. I loved that they coursed our meal out, we ended up dining for two hours. This place is perfect for date night. Stand outs were the Blackened Tofu, Cornbread and Capellini Pasta. The Strawberry cocktail was light and refreshing as well. Plan to return when the menu changes for another season! read more

A cool eclectic vibe that does high end dining with a laid back feel. Me and my fiancee went during their happy hour that does 25% off food which was nice. We started with drinks- I had the "Spill The Chai" and it was awesome. Bourbon infused with chai however it's fully translucent so not milky at all but with a hint of milk/chai flavors. We were told 4 plates is enough for two people so we ordered two apps, the ceviche and Shrimp. The ceviche was very fresh and the sauce and chips mixed together was amazing 4.5/5. The shrimp was a little overpowering with a smokey grilled taste and just wasn't what I was expecting 3.3/5. Then for the main course we shared the Quail and Wagu Steak. The quail was great and the sauce was Cajun style and the inside of the quail was filled with this delicious Cajun rice 4.3/5. Last was the steak and it was a bit underwhelming. The light gravy and fried potato balls were absolutely perfect 5/5. If that was the only thing on the plate I'd be content! However, the steak itself was really chewy, and was surprisingly hard to cut. Maybe it was the cut of wagyu but when I think of wagyu I think buttery melty steak. It just didn't hit the mark on the actual meat part of the dish 3/5. Fun experience and a place I'd consider going back for happy hour and maybe just sticking to the items I really liked. read more

The business may have been around since 2009 (started as a food truck), but after all these years of visiting Austin, I never had a meal there. That finally changed and I'm glad it did. The ambiance was great, the façade is now overgrown with plant life, almost obscuring the sign. Inside the vibes were chill, unpretentious, and open. Service was fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. Our server gave us a quick rundown complete with recommendations and a game plan on how many plates to order. Odd Duck's menu specializes in plates to share. Our favorites: Cast iron cheddar cornbread, smoked tomato butter: Never had tomato butter before, it paired wonderfully with the cornbread. Aged wagyu burger: A succulent piece of beef it was topped with a piece of fried beer cheese which had a very unique texture and almost mistaken it as a friend vegetable. Braised goat pizza: A true goat-themed dish complete with goat cheese and oaxaca pulled goat. Blackened redfish: The exterior was well crisped and seasoned leaving the interior fish nice and delicate. A great dinner finished with a solid Peach cobbler: we all walked out very happy and satisfied. read more
I visited Odd Duck for the first time to celebrate an anniversary, and it was quite pleasant. I usually do my research beforehand, and I have to agree with other reviewers--the cornbread is a must, and the wagyu burger is juicy, with the perfect tang from the pickled cabbage. Might be a personal preference, but the quail was too salty for me. Otherwise, the vibe is stylish yet laid-back, the cocktails are solid, and the service is decent. It's a bit pricey, so absolutely worth it for a special night out! read more

Odd Duck continues to be one of my favorite places in Austin. There's a reason why it's been around for so long. I prefer the ambiance inside where there are less kids running around on the patio but enjoyed sitting out there anyway. Luckily it's a cooled & covered patio so it's nice for summer evenings. We opted for the corn bread, peach salad, goat pizza and red snapper. Everything was delicious. For the Thai peach salad, it has a really nice kick but I wish they peeled the cucumbers. The cucumbers were bitter from the skin and I hate that taste but otherwise the fish sauce and crispy pork belly were amazing. You can never go wrong with the corn bread. My least favorite was the goat pizza. It lacked the crispy thin crust and was soggy but had great flavor. Shout out to our waiter, he was great and attentive. Also their orange cream soda is super refreshing but a bit small for the price and mostly ice cubes. They should definitely include refills on that. read more

I went to Odd Duck for the first time today and everything was amazing! I had the Waygu Burger, which was amazing! The jam in it was unique and made it different than anything I've had so far. The Waygu strips were also amazing! The tots on the side was really good as well read more

The BEST Palomas.... Need I say more ? Everything here is always fantastic. We had a lot of incredible dishes but the chocolate masa cake that was next level AMAZING (I'm still dreaming of this cake). Can't say more great things about Odd Duck but I love this spot. read more
Stopped by for a quick bite and loved it! The ambiance is rustic. We tried the butternut squash chalupa and the apple crisp. The chalupa, which usually reminds me of Taco Bell's version of a chalupa, but this one was on another level--crispy, with a sweet and tangy kick from the apple, and a bold heat from the habanero shishito. The apple crisp was a standout too, featuring warm, perfectly spiced apples topped with a crunchy, buttery crumble. It paired surprisingly well with the tarragon ice cream--who would've thought? I would absolutely come back to explore more of the menu! read more

Just wanted a little app and cocktail. I got their cornbread. And my super awesome bartender made me a drink with vodka with a sliced dried apple. Very tasty, she created it on the spot. The cornbread had a little heat to it. And I just loved it it's big enough to share. I was happy with just half and my friend had the other half. read more

We devoured the Texas pickles [seasonal River Field Farm veg, arbol chili brine, olive oil], Chicken fried chicken giblets [sweet chili mustard, shiitake honey], Cast iron cheddar cornbread [green onion], Ceviche, Grilled jerk shrimp [banana pepper butter, chimichurri], Aged wagyu burger [tomato pork jam, fried beer cheese, pickled squash], and polished this off with the Cocoa Nib Tres Leches [grapefruit namelaka, chocolate]. For drinks I tried their Top Shelf Odd Fashioned [Montelobos Mezcal] and once again the Nitro Espresso Martini [1876 vodka [Dolin dry vermouth, espresso cold brew, cinnamon, vanilla, coffee foam]. Everything about this spot was unbelievable & highly recommended, that burger was one of my top 10 ever! I'd go back just for that & an ultra next time. The service on point & kept both the drinks and feast flowing to perfection. The corn bread was the best I've ever had. Finally my mother always eats the gizzards, so I felt compelled to try them. Not my first time, but the way these were prepared was the best version I've had so far! I loved this place! read more
Walking in, the vibe of the restaurant is super cute. Twinkle lights and lots of wood. Our waitress was very helpful, she even brought me a pescatarian menu when I told her I was pescatarian. We started with the broccoli. This was my favorite dish of the night. The deviled egg dip was amazing with the fresh broccoli. The pasta was also delicious. The mushroom was perfectly cooked and went perfectly with the cheese pasta. The texture of the pasta itself was al dente. The cornbread was so cute in its little cast iron pan. The sweet potato chili butter had a little kick and the cornbread was very moist. The blackened redfish was perfectly cooked and the sourdough sauce was amazing. The bok choy and all the little sides on the dish just paired so perfectly. Overall, what an amazing meal! read more
Loved the fish, loved the quail, loved the cornbread, but thai sweet potato salad was unexpectedly the star of the show. Every single bite was amazing. wow ... i think this is one of the best restaurants i've ever been to. everything about odd duck is what you expect to see out of a farm to table restaurant -- kind service, home-y ambiance, and incredible food. every dish i got was fire, but my favorites were the cornbread and thai apple salad. i also loved the steak dish, but i will say that some parts of the steak was very very chewy and hard to get through. nonetheless, i had an incredible experience and will come back the next time i'm in austin! read more

It's not a stretch to say this is my favorite restaurant in America. I was visiting Austin from Chicago and found this through google search at 4 pm. Was able to snag a 9 pm bar seat with my buddy. Bartender with hat and long hair was awesome, super cool guy that chatted with us about Austin staples the whole time. Pickles came out first. They were fine, but nothing too special. The cornbread was next. Wow. Best I've ever had. A must get. We split a burger and the pizza. The pizza was fantastic a great touch. But the Burger. Oh my lord. Best I've ever had in my life. Truly. Great experience. Note: The burger is one of the more expensive burgers you'll ever have in your life, but treat yourself if wallet allows. It's so good. read more
I've only visited Austin twice but Odd Duck so far is one of my favorite restaurants. Even on the weekdays, it is still hard to get a dinner reservation but fortunately we were make reservation at 8 PM reservation for a party of 4. They had cute decorations right when you entered the restaurant with their own cook book/comic book. They had indoor, outdoor and bar seatings. Food are small bite sizes and most dishes were shareable. The menu changes based on the season. Cocktails were good, and they had a decent wine list which was reasonable. My favorite dishes was the blackened redfish, chicken heart and stuffed quail. Overall, all the workers are very friendly and outgoing. We had another good experience and our server, Robert, was amazing. He was attentive, friendly, outgoing, and gave us good recommendations. Prices are on the higher end but it was worth it. read more

Around 15min wait for walk in around 7pm on a weekend. Wagyu burger was very filling but it didn't really feel different from a regular burger. The beer cheese in it tastes exactly like the name suggests. For dessert, the celery sorbet is pretty much a celery smoothie in horchata. The coconut golden milk ice cream has sweet potato cake below it which makes the whole dish taste like a pumpkin pie. Lastly, the oatmeal icebox cake tastes like a granola bar with some jam on the side. Overall an adventurous meal but like the name it's a little odd. read more
My boyfriend and I LOVED this place when we were in Austin in the fall. It might have been our favorite meal during our week-long trip. The place has really great foods, but tables really small when sitting in the bar. The wait staff was not consistency on service. The flows were a bit off but the foods are great. The temperature in the room also dropped very cold in a sudden. And the dessert is way too sweet. read more

Do they accept walk-ins?
Yes. We were there just at 5:00 when they opened for Happy Hour.
Is this place family/kid friendly?
I went during lunch and there were families in there. My opinion is that it is. I do not know the scene for the evenings for kids.
Are they open on Thanksgiving 2019?? After calling they confirmed that they are open indeed!

Is the meat they use pasture raised/grass fed/heritage breed?
Yes all is farm to table
Are they open on New Years Day?
I don't think so since it isn't landing on a weekend.
Are they open on Christmas day?
We will be closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas day all day.
