Maybe I'm just an incurable romantic, but I loved this place, spiders and all. Well, we insisted on eating outside in the tiny but delightful courtyard with ripe clusters of grapes hanging overhead. My overall favorite place in Paso. The menu is so diverse everyone can find something they will like. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual. One table even has a large couch. Plus a small patio. Fresh brewed tropical tea is my favorite beverage. Although they have an awesome selection of local wines. Today I had an Ahi Tuna Salad. I ate that like I haven't seen salad for weeks. Perfectly light dressing and deliciously tender tuna. I chose to get soup on the side and it was Split Pea. I have tried most of the soups and all were very good. Some traditional, some more creative. Split pea today was again a winner. My favorite sandwich is the rotisserie chicken. It has pesto mozzarella and tomatoes and is a perfect light yet full of flavor sandwich. My favorite side salad is pesto penne pasta. Very aldente pasta makes a great snack. Been coming here for years and years - definitely a worthwhile stop when in need of lunch or dinner in the Paso area. Stars are for the food and friendly service. Marked off in terms of general ambiance (there isn't much unfortunately) and I tend to get grossed out when there are communal things on the table (i.e. trivial pursuit cards) that dozens of people have touched before you. Additionally, I marked off stars as they have raised the prices on their dishes in the last few years and I'm not sure I understand the justification when the meal is the same. I would recommend the rotisserie chicken sandwich with a side of penne pesto pasta or any of the stir fry dishes (teriyaki is my favorite). They are both healthy portions. read more

I have had lunch and dinner here several times over the past few years. I like the uniqueness of this place in that you order at the counter and they bring the food to you; they have trivial pursuit cards at each table - a nice and thoughtful touch. I feel as if I have gone to a friend's home for dinner rather than eating out. Last night, I enjoyed their salmon dinner and a caesar salad; the salad could have had a bit more flavor to it, and yet was it fresh and the salmon was quite delicious - cooked perfectly. They also have a nice wine list with a lot of local wines. The service here is excellent; they are always warm and friendly and your food comes quickly! On a long weekend Sunday night, OWC seems to be one of the only places open... You order from the front counter, they give you a number and you take a seat. I do like the inside of the joint, however -- homely, comforting, more like an old fashioned cafe or tea house. The food was alright. Considering my group and I weren't super starving, there wasn't anything that totally stood out as phenomenal. The blue cheese burger desperately needed salt, and the food was bordering on too healthy and too foo-fooey for my taste. But everything truly was solid, and I had a taste of my brother's rotisserie chicken sandwich. The meat was UH-MAAAAZING! But the pesto/balsamic/mozz combo? So little taste. Great location (in the little downtown area), but we didn't care much for the food...it was OK. The atomosphere reminded me of a coffee house where you will find people just lounging around. The staff is friendly, but if you are looking for service, this isn't the place. You get your own drinks and order your food at the counter...they bring it to you. We also thought the place was pricey for the quality food they serve. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. If you try this place, I recommend sharing a meal or ordering something small. There was a gaggle of girls behind the counter laughing and chattering but when it came time to take our order the girl taking it seemed suddenly sullen and impatient and even quickly recited the total when I didn't tell her our drink order fast enough. Charged 2.50 for hot water (no tea). Maybe let us know next time? There were no other customers in the restaurant so I don't know why the irritation and lack of communication. read more

I genuinely wanted to love this place. I heard such wonderful reviews from friends and friends of friends, but honestly, this place just isn't for me. I can't put 3 stars because I didn't like it... at all, but what that boils down to is just not liking the type of food they have. Was it cooked well? Incredibly so. I got a grilled veggie salad. I wish that they had cut the vegetables into actual strips so it was easier to eat. I kept getting large chunks of eggplant and it feels weird using a fork and knife to cut my salad. My mom got their chicken bombay salad because she liked that it had curry in it. All I can say is that I've never seen someone so unhappy eating a salad. The setup was nice. You pick up your menus, sit anywhere, and then order up front. They have a thing on the front of the cash register that lets you electronically tip. This was new to my grandma who also joined us (we were a hungry trio!), but commented that using her finger to write out her signature was difficult. It is awkward, but hardly a huge inconvenience. Our server was kind, but not friendly. He was very monotone and seemed to be stuck in the routine of being a server. You know when you see you have an hour left and you're just like that's "2 half hours!", yeah. That's the vibe I got from him. I just... man, I'm bummed. I did not like the food at all. I ordered the a linguini dish with olives and feta. Not a favorite, but the soup of the day which was a cream of beef with mushroom was delicious. I could have gone for a bigger bowl of that with the bread and tampenade. This place is a good idea because you can eat restaurant quality food in a casual coffee house or cafe setting. Kind of an unusual cafe, dark and fully of quirky paintings and art inside, along with some large bookshelves, and most tables had a box of some form of trivia cards. Who was the victim of the first televised murder in the US? Lee Harvey Oswald! The food was tasty - French Dip sandwich? Very good! Thick, rich local bread too. Chicken sandwich was also large and very tasty. The wild rice curry spiced salad was also great. They've got a few beers, and a few wines, and you order at the counter. The gentle art of gastronomy is a friendly one. It hurdles the language barrier, makes friends among civilized people, and warms the heart. On a recent trip to imbibe the liquid out of the grape vines in Paso, we met a couple traveling here from Sweden. They were friendly, curious and funny; traits I desire when choosing dining partners. With purple teeth, we headed over to the Odyssey World Café to try on the different culinary species resting in this imperturbable teashop (that was their European description of this quaint bistro). Odyssey World Café is a place to relax and enjoy great eclectic food. They offer American favorites plus many interesting dishes from around the world. The casual atmosphere is reminiscent of a European Café or Trattoria. It's a place where you'll find really good food at reasonable prices. Gary shocked them by trying the Colossal Chocolate Cake and a Caramel Brownie first. This act would draw the culinary guillotine in their home country, so they watched flabbergasted. Our friends had the Reuben and melted Swiss cheese sandwich that surprised them how large this was. Served open face on Rye with succulent corned beef and Swiss cheese with a proper dose of Sauerkraut and the greatest American invention, Thousand Islands dressing. I had the Bombay Curried Chicken Salad to show that I was a world adventurer that featured rotisserie chicken sliced apples, almonds in a mild creamy curry served over romaine lettuce with mandarin oranges and a orange sesame ginger dressing. The Chunky Blue Cheese Salad was decidedly French with its mixed green sprigs, sliced granny smith apples with blue cheese crumbles, toasted walnuts with a dusting of sugar. The flavors were balance with balsamic honey mustard dressing. We all shared the Mediterranean Three Olive Pasta, and enjoyed every bite. With kalamata olives, Spanish Green and California black olives, capers, sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil with feta and olive oil. It was so flavorful we ordered another go round to share. read more

OK, let's start with the high points: They have the absolute best cheesecake you will ever, yes...ever eat. It is moist and creamy and sweet and cheesy and ahhhh. So good. Also, everyone seems to genuinely enjoy working there. They clearly use high end ingredients and you can tell by the way it all tastes Low points: drinks are all self serve. So is getting to-go boxes and the refill station gets backed up and cramped while your food gets cold at your table. This place can attract, how can I say this politely...the "snobbier" side of Paso Robles. And it can feel more like a meeting place of Paso's top elite soccer moms and business people then a locals hang out spot. The prices for lunch seemed (to me a 9-5 worker and student) a little steep for the portion sizes. On the few occasions I have patronized Odyssey, I have enjoyed: The lunch plate of 3 olive pasta and a side salad for around $12 (not including a drink) The pasta was incredible and bursting with flavor, the salad was a handful of spring greens with tasteless ranch dressing all over it. I was left wanting much much more of the pasta and was hungry twenty minutes later. The grilled cheese on foccacia, they used lots of really good cheddar cheese and the bread had tons of herbs in it. Very yummy. Came with chips I believe which were worthless. The eggs Benedict and country potatoes. Amazing. They could have slapped ten more bucks on the price and I'd likely pay the price. SO good. Hands down the best hollandaise and the eggs were perfectly poached, bread was toasty and delicious and the potatoes were sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and parsley and garlic. Oh so good. On a sweltering hot day, we decided to get take out because we had the dog with us and couldn't bare sitting on the patio to eat. The food was pretty good, my husband had the roast turkey and swiss sandwich that he enjoyed pretty well. Although they were a little trigger happy with the mayo and put gobs on both sides of bread. Hot dang, this place is good! While staying in Templeton with friends over the weekend, we were treated to Odyssey for breakfast. And, WOW, what a treat it was! I can't say enough good about this place. The menu is full, varied and everything looks delicious. The decor and atmosphere is fun, casual and comfortable, but with a cool twist (can't even describe the decor -french country? - you've got to check that out yourself). Personally, I like ordering and paying at the counter. Cut out the middle man and one less person you have to tip?! Haha! But really, how hard is that? I can't vouch for the other dishes because I had my mind on one thing... EGGS BENEDICT. Yummmmmmo. This was one of the best I've had. A delightfully poached, juicy egg, atop a crisy warm toasted ciabatta, drenched in a sunny yellow lemony sauce. If that wasn't enough, it was flanked by yummy parmesan dusted roasted potaotes and a sad-looking, albeit super tasty blueberry muffin. Yes yes yes. After a long day of wine tasting (6 tasting rooms! ok maybe a bit too much), we stopped in because we really needed some sustenance. The place looks homey and was pretty full. You have to order at the counter and then the food is brought to your table. You also have to fill your own drinks at the fountain. All of the tables have trivia cards...but if you born after 1990 you probably have no idea about any of the questions on tv shows....recent trivia cards these are not. We ended up with a steak sandwich and a burger with pesto pasta salad and fries. The food was good. I thought it was a bit pricey for a place without table service. I paid $15 for the burger, which is fine, but its usually from the kind of place where you can actually order from a waiter. A good tip....they serve from the lunch menu all day, so ordering from that menu during dinner saves some $$$. read more

We went here based on a recommendation. It was a bad recommendation. We went for lunch and the place was HOT. Like uncomfortable temperature hot. The set up is kind of weird. You grab your own menus, sit yourself at one of the tables and then you walk back up to the counter to place your order. They do bring your food to the table and the two stars are mostly for the service. The folks working there were friendly and courteous. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. No joke, it tasted just like olive garden. I actually enjoy olive garden about once a year, so that's not necessarily a bad thing, but not what I was expecting. The food wasn't bad, but it just tasted generic. We also ordered wine and guess what? It was HOT. It's hard to enjoy a good glass of primitivo when it's served at about 80 degrees. They do have trivia pursuit cards at the table so at least you can entertain yourself with that. But, if you're looking for a good place to eat in Paso, I would skip this one. Such a cute and yummy place. We were out in Paso for the weekend and we went here twice because not only is the food fresh and tasty but it is also a fun experience. It has a low key and relaxed feeling. There's lots of variety on the menu and they allow split meals. Our first meal there, we ordered the fresh chicken sandwich made with balsamic vinegar, pesto, tomato and mozzarella. Our second meal was cheese tortilini in alfredo sauce. The dinner comes complete with bread and an olive spread that is quite tasty. Also, if you have an iPhone and the app "TinRoof" there's a coupon for free dessert bar. We split a chocolate peanut butter bar. It was scrumptious and free! We loved playing trivial pursuit while our meal was cooking. We even became friends with a neighboring family playing the game. If I lived in this area I would eat here nearly every day. We were very impressed with the menu, and service. the food was so fresh and flavorful, I had the chicken basil sandwich with sweet potato fries. They make their own bread every morning. My husband had the Chicken Tortilla soup, very thick and flavorful. We were so impressed we came back the next day. I had the vegetable wrap, and sliced turkey on WW bread with Hummus. My husband and I ate lunch here and we were very impressed by the quality and flavors of the food. He had an absolutely delicious prime rib sandwich (the special). I'm not a huge fan of prime rib, but the meat was SO tender and the flavor was very good. The bread it was served on was something different and very yummy! I had a veggie wrap with grilled veggies. It lacked a bit in flavor for me, but I chalk that up to the fact that it was all veggies. At least they didn't over season or over salt it. It would have been great to have some hot sauce or other sauce available to spice it up a bit. The tomato lentil soup was just fabulous! The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because you have to order at the counter. They do bring the food out to you, which is nice. However, they took forever (20-25mins) to get our food- a bowl of soup, a slice of pizza and a latte. The food was mediocre, the pizza was unappetizing and we left it after a few bites.
