Hit or miss. Been three times. Very impressed once! One time, though, it took them 45 min after our reservation to even get seated. The hostess kinda barked at us. We were hungry. And then the server forgot half our orders. Octovio? I think that's his name is a great manager and made up for the visit. They have mainly Italian wines on their menu I believe. What's up with that? People don't come to napa to try Italian wines geeze! Although the food is good, I don't think it's the best new Italian restaurant in the America like food and wine magazine said. I have no doubts, the food is wonderful. However, the restaurant is very noisy and the tables are very wide, so it was odd to sit so far away from each other. Again, no knock against either food or decor, just odd quirks. Most importantly, our server was terrible, actually ruined our experience, brazenly claiming he was very good at making recommendations and spacing out our order (everything arrived simultaneously), but was sure to suggest we hadn't ordered near enough food. We walk in on Mother's day for dinner at about 7:30. We were greeted warmly and were seated right away. Damien was our waiter...and wow did we get lucky to have him. We sit down and I don't know if it is because it is the first time either of us has been to Napa, but we couldn't make up our minds as to what we wanted to eat or drink... and we told Damien we were struggling with decisions. He said, "ok, if you want I can order for you and pair the wine".... we thought, sure why not?! For two people who love to eat and like to be in control, this was a big leap of faith, and slightly uncomfortable:) But it worked out perfectly. Each meal came out as a surprise. First meal was from the antipasti menu- I don't remember what it was called, but it was pear, apple, cherry, arugula, shaved ricotta and toasted hazel nuts. It was light and incredibly flavorful and fresh. The next dish was pulled pork ragu over torchietti, it was also just delicious and melted in your mouth. Next up was the lamb spezzatino- tender, and somehow not terribly heavy. We were also given carrots as a side, which believe it or not, almost stole the meal, with honey and ginger. The dessert was wonderful too, I can't remember what it is called, and its not on their online menu...and cappuccino to top it all off. The meal only came to about $110 without tip for 2 people which included 2 glasses of wine. Well worth it for quality of food, service and ambience. I came here per the recommendation of my inn-keeper. It was a Tuesday night in an off-season, so the place was not packed. I was seated right away without a reservation. My waiter, Damian, really made the whole experience at Oenotri. I ordered wine, but did not like it as well as I hoped. In his attentiveness, he checked-in about it, offered me samples of other wines, and traded in my first glass for one of my choosing. He was super enthusiastic about the menu, answered my questions, and made solid recommendations. The complimentary bread was also a very yummy treat while waiting for my pasta dish, which was a little small on portion size but just right for me. The food here was some of the best I've ever had. I had the tortellini with king trumpet mushrooms, ricotta, brown butter, meyer lemon, thyme and parmaigiano-reggiano while it seemed you only got a small amount it was rich and delicious. The fresh pasta was to die for and the brown butter sauce was perfectly made and not bitter at all. My husband had torchio with Stone Valley Farm pork ragu and parmagiano-reggiano. He is still raving about it. The pork was tender and juicy. This was a nice portion size. My BIG complaint was the service. Our server left us hanging on more than one occasion. We waited forever for our plates to be cleared and then had to ask someone else to send our waiter over for our check. He basically threw the dessert menu at us without saying one word. He was very inattentive and seemed more concerned with other tables than us. We had six people and that meant our tip would be automatically added. I cancelled another dinner reservation after reading reviews for Oenotri that described dinner as the best they've ever had, and they did NOT disappoint! We started off with a bottle of Rogstad, which the sommelier suggested and was fantastic. We decided to split a margherita pizza with arugula and the trompetti with biagio farm braised hen, tomato, garlic, onion and gremolata amongst the three of us. The pizza was the best I've ever had, and I'm from New York. The sauce was so tasty and fresh. The pasta, made in house, was very good but again, the light tomato sauce made the dish. We closed our dinner with this puff pastry type dessert with chocolate inside that our waitress at Carpe Diem suggested... it was only okay. We woke up thinking about the pizza and ended up doing a late second dinner (or if you want to call pizza dessert) on Sunday. read more

Beautiful and classy place. The ambiance the minute you walk in is clean and welcoming. They have a great bar, somewhere you could really sit or hang out for a few hours. We were seated quickly and greeted by our server Damien. He was energetic, fun, and knew exactly how to describe the menu so by the end I was ready to order one of everything. We ended up sharing a margherita pizza with fresh full belly farm basil and added pancetta (house-made and key to a delicious pizza!!), and tomato conserva radiatore with gypsy peppers and smoked mozzarella pasta. Both dishes were phenomenal. At the end of the meal we decided we had just enough room left for dessert and were craving chocolate. Damien informed us they only had one dessert (chocolate-less), but when we expressed what we were looking for he disappeared back into the kitchens to reappear moments later with a decadent, dense chocolate cake with a chocolate chip gelato on top. As heavy as it seemed, it was actually very light on the finish and didnt leave us feeling overly full. All in all, a perfect meal. Came here with high hopes after reading mostly positive reviews. The overall experience we had at this restaurant is one of the worst in recent memory. There were four people in our party. We order a salad, 3 different pastas , a meat dish and a side dish. First off, you have to ask for bread to be served. The foccacia bread itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't fresh and warm either. The dip that came with it was BITTER so we ended up eating the bread by itself or with the pasta sauce later. The portion of all 3 pastas were very small. Two of them were too salty. The other was just OK. The squab was actually pretty tasty but overly oily because it appeared to have been fried. The side of broccoli was drowning in olive oil. The worst part of the meal was actually the coffee, which they charge $4.50 per cup. Three of us ordered the coffee and couldn't believe how light and water down it was. Seriously, the free coffee we had at our hotel tasted better than what we got, which is saying a lot because the hotel coffee was pretty bad. We told our waitress nicely that we have issues with the coffee so she said she would get another 3 cups brewed for us. When she returned, the replacement was no better than the first batch. She never came back to check if we were happy with the coffee - not something a good waitress would do. I almost called her back to say we were not paying for the coffee, but refrained from doing so. We decided it is important to write an honest review here to reflect our experience. Certainly, we will never return to this establishment. read more

Great food and service! We love Oenotri, and had a fantastic time twice last weekend. The host staff remembered us from prior visits (even though we are from Portland, Oregon) and were super nice. The pizza is the best in the country as far as we are concerned, the crust is stellar on it's own. The salads and pastas are also top notch, better than anything we have eaten in Portland. WOW! That kind of sums it all up. I've never been one to give reviews online, but I thought that I would be doing a disservice to anyone looking for a spectacular brunch spot. I heard last night that Oenotri was having their inaugural brunch today--inaugural always chancy--but NOT in this case. I joked that they would put an egg on any of their dinner choices, but also NOT in this case. Collectively we had the "egg in purgatory, the margarita pizza, the asparagus pizza, the hash and the asparagus with the poached egg. There is not one thing that I would change. The food was cooked perfectly! The service was great, perfect amount of people and attention. I am somewhat of a bloody mary aficionado and was drawn to the bloody mary that had bacon--yes, bacon--in it. Not disappointed one bit. The spices were perfect. In fact, I even sent a picture of my drink to a couple of bacon-loving friends, telling them that they had to get there soon to try it. I do have to admit that we had a hard time focusing on the menu when we first got there because the music was so awesome that we kept breaking into song, but we rallied. This was my second visit. What I loved both times was the simplicity of the dishes. We ordered their most popular salad mixed greens with the citrus lemon dressing. The dressing is my favorite it would go well with almost any salad. For our main course we shared a margherita pizza and Fidei alla Norma. Both dishes were great. What we didn't like was - pizza wasn't hot when it arrived to our table and the Fidei alla Norma was extremely small we each had maybe 3-4 bites of it. We are 2 hardy eaters and I could have ordered another entree after we finished the pizza and pasta as I was still a little hungry. One thing to note, we did bring our own bottle of wine from one of the vineyards we had visited earlier. Their corkage fee is first bottle $15 and I believe the second bottle increases in price. Overall good experience, food and service. We recommend a reservation as almost every table was full on a Sunday evening at 8:30pm when we walked in for our reservation. read more

We had a delicious meal here. I had the seasonal shrub to begin, and it was tart and refreshing. Dave enjoyed perusing the wine list, and picked a Pinot. My husband and I had dinner At Oenotri, this past Saturday evening. Unfortunately, I was not feeling all that great and had briefly mentioned it to our server, Devany. I wanted to stay away from anything too 'exotic', so I had ordered the Linguini and Clams, minus the clams and hot peppers. Our food came out and it was perfect! The garlic sauce that was incorporated into my pasta was extremely smooth without being overpowering or bitter...so good! After finishing our entrees, we asked Devany for her recommendations for dessert. Upon her suggestion, we ordered the Ricotta Doughnuts - YUM! While the food was good, it was Devany who stole the show...she was fantastic!! Her personality was "right up our alley", she was attentive without hovering & clearly knew her stuff. Since both my husband and I have been in the hospitality industry for quite some time, we can appreciate a great server and Devany is just that! Thank you, Devany for a very nice evening! We enjoyed a very good meal here with friends. We had an antipasti with different salamis and pâtés. Very delicious!! I had a mixed greens salad with meyer lemon vinaigrette and parmigiano-reggiano. It was so delicious, just too much lettuce. My main course was a linguini with scallops. It was very good, just a little bland. Another in our party ordered the same and ended up requesting pepper to give it a little kick. Two in our party had a beet salad which they enjoyed along with pasta dishes made with heirloom tomatoes. It was very good. I had cannoli for dessert. All I have to say about my experience at Oenotri is WOW! I love Neapolitan style pizza and am a frequent diner at Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix. I think the guys at Oenotri may have de-throned Chris Bianco when it comes to the best Neapolitan style pizza in the US. The crust was light and crispy but also had a delicious buttery quality to it. We had the house-made pepperoni, onion, and arugula (I am a HUGE fan of fresh arugula on top of my pizza), the Margherita, and the stinging nettles with fresh ricotta and pine nuts pizza. They were all perfect and we couldn't stop eating! The service was absolutely terrific (Damian ). The two chefs even stopped by our table. We stated with the house made salumi platter and salad with fava beans. They were awesome. Nothing I could write here can do the food or experience justice. We are locals and after the weekly farmers market we decided to try this restaurant which is new to downtown Napa. Based on their pizza reviews, we ordered their house made pepperoni pizza and fresh peach salad with wild arugala, fennel and pistachios. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer. Both wine and beer lists were lengthy but accurate- with much to choose from. The salad fruit was fresh picked and perfect for the time of year. The pizza however was a disappointment. It was served to our table with blackened (burnt) crust edges and a soggy middle. Our mistake was to refuse it when it appeared. Maybe a one shot mistake on their part but may not return any time soon. Try the Firewood Cafe in north Napa for a more authentic "Italian style pizza" with far less noise. read more

We had a fantastic meal last night! Everything was so fresh and perfectly seasoned. The pizza crust is so chewy, the toppings just right-Incanto was the bomb! Wow, best ever w/pistachio's of all things! Having pizza from a real authentic wood burning pizza oven is the only way! All their pasta's are made in house; my favorite is the bucatini. The zeppoli's for desert were a real treat, beautiful sweet blueberries & whipped cream on the side, oh what indulgent treat as well as the chocolate mint ganache tart. The food was outstanding and I would return for the food. However, the attitude of the staff was significantly below par. (1) We had a reservation for three and were seated at a table for four directly beneath the air conditioning vent. It caused a draft of very cold air. We commented on it and were told in a surprised manner that no one else had ever complained. We asked to be and were moved to another table without any apology, as though we had inconvenienced them. We watched as another group of four was seated. The older woman directly in the path of the air finally changed seats with another within that party. None of the four ever took off their coats. The restaurant refused to acknowledge the elephant within their restaurant. None of us are stupid and we were treated as though we could not think for ourselves. Our party consisted of two 'older' adults - in our prime and not senile by a long shot - and a 30-something adult. The wine steward, every time he came to our table to discuss wine, elected to put his back to us 'old folk' and talk directly to the 30-something. So, in a nutshell, if you can overcome these hurdles, you can enjoy a wonderful meal. read more

Absolutely awful experience, and I completely agree with Laila P. on the front page who lambasted the hostesses. They were absolutely atrocious. Went there with a group of 4, sat down and ordered. Unfortunately, my sister wasn't feeling well and ended up getting sick there. We were quick to react as was the wait staff, and she and my fiance went to the bathroom to clean up before she was going to leave. But before they could even return from the restroom the hostess decided it was necessary to kick us out! She asked us if she wanted our food wrapped because she "was unfortunately going to have to ask [my sister] to leave." I was shocked. Firstly, I was already embarrassed enough without her coming over to kick us out, and second, there's no way she was going to stay when she wasn't feeling well to begin with! Her condescension was astounding. We spoke to her and she seemed to think she was doing us a favor by asking if we wanted our food wrapped up, and that might've been true had she not kicked us out before asking! We ended up getting the food wrapped up and it was ok. It's a bit tough to judge the food without having eaten in the restaurant. When we return to Napa, we'll certainly steer clear of Oenotri. read more

We were wine tasting and another couple recommended this restaurant. On a Sunday night at 7:39 we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, but it was well worth the wait. We ended up sitting in front of the kitchen watching Pete the pizza maker extraordinaire. We ordered pizza, pasta and polenta (yes, carb overload) but it was well worth it. Everything tasted great. What I love about this place is that they have a garden and use all fresh ingredients. I think the price was reasonable - mid range. I would go back again in a heartbeat. read more
