The food did come out quickly though! I ordered The Roma sandwich and swapped the fries for the kale caesar salad. The chicken was juicy and paired well with the fresh tomato, field greens, and creamy aioli. The fresh rosemary focaccia was buttery, however, it was still dry and flaky and fell apart rather easily so it was hard to actually eat it as a sandwich. The kale salad was veryyy creamy and heavily dressed with lots of cheese so that's great if that's your jam- I just enjoy a lighter salad. I did steal a french fry from my friend and they were salty, crispy, and quite delicious. The rest of the food was ordered by my friends and are their flavor reports. The hangover burrito was devoured by my two friends, but the words "structural integrity" were mentioned multiple times- unsure if this was due to a weak tortilla, wrapping skills, or a combination of both. My friend's shroom burger was average- the patty was a little dry and underseasoned, but the umami mushrooms and garlicky sauce saved it. The beet burger was savory, paired well with the vinegar and aioli sauces, and is a great vegetarian option. My biggest complaint about this establishment was the price. The food was all decent, but my bill for one drink and one sandwich was $50 total, which I deem as pretty steep. read more

The brunch service was really good. Our server Amber was phenomenal and was very great with handling large parties. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, gave great recommendations. Since we had a large group, everyone ordered a plethora of items, we started with the waffle battered bacon for the table. I will say this was not really my fave, because I only tasted the waffle batter and not the actual bacon. I will say though, their waffle batter is delicious and prompted me to order waffles with a side of bacon for my meal. Other favorites were the French dip burger, the wings of course. I decided to meet up with a few friends for Sunday brunch at Of Love and Regret and had a perfectly acceptable experience, though nothing stood out enough to draw me back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated at the large high top communal table in the rear of the restaurant, which came with a pretty significant downside (literally). The table is a resin finished live edge slab, so it keeps the natural contours of the wood. One of the edges is not perfectly planed, causing glasses and plates to constantly slide off the table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not a deal breaker, but definitely a distraction and something we had to monitor throughout the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lighting in that section was also extremely dim and relied almost entirely on natural light to brighten the space. It made reading the menu and enjoying the atmosphere a bit more difficult.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As for the food, it was fine. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was well put together and satisfying but nothing special. My wife had the chicken and waffles and felt the same way. I'd been to Of Love And Regret (OLAR) before, but it's been well over 10 years, more like 13 or 14. I don't live in the area, and when I visit, it's usually to Canton Square. But I do recall OLAR having good food and good beer. This past weekend though, I returned to OLAR for my friend's bridal shower. OLAR provided the second floor of their venue for this event. There were a variety of high top tables and chairs, plus a series of tables and chairs were set up for the group to eat together. She was attentive and saw to our needs very well. I had 2 delightful sangrias while I was there, and ordered a salmon salad for my entree. After the shower I went downstairs to the main bar. There were no bartenders currently there when I arrived, but there were other patrons who appeared taken care of, so I was confident I'd get service soon. One of my favorite parts of the restaurant when you first walk in is the curated selection of wines available for purchase to take home. I first visited here over a month ago for a private event and overall the service was great and the food and drinks were delicious. This time I visited on a personal visit and the servers did mention that they were short staffed so the wait was a bit long. I think from the time we ordered it took about 45 minutes before our food came out which isn't a probably per se. I ordered the chicken and waffles and unfortunately they forgot to add the Nashville hot syrup. Additionally the chicken was a bit on the drier side with the waffles a bit flat. We also ordered a small plate of breakfast nachos which was delicious, the chips were so crisp and held the toppings well! We also ordered a dozen oysters and they were your typical round of oysters, no weird smell, very buttery and paired nicely with the bourbon horseradish bbq sauce which definitely ask for as they did not have straight horseradish. Price wise I would say expect to spend anywhere between 30-50 pp if not a bit more if you're drinking a few more cocktails. The restaurant is also located on the corner of the street so it is street parking with some pay to park spots along the side right across the street. It is free on Sundays. Where the restaurant earned their stars for me was their service. Despite being short staffed, everyone was in great spirits and no one expressed any sort of frustration or annoyance with the customers. I've been once for drinks and apps, once for dinner, and most recently for brunch. I've truly liked everything I've had. Both the food and drinks are delicious. My favorite meal so far was the steak tips with mac and cheese and broccoli. The steak was tender and delicious. The mac and cheese was on point and the broccoli was the perfect accompaniment. It's hard for me to choose a favorite drink, but they do a really nice old-fashioned here, and even though Midnight Sky is really fun, I'm a whiskey girl through and through. I love the vibes. OLAR has been one of my favorite spots in Baltimore for years. It is very spacious for a Baltimore Canton/Brewer hill area converted townhome restaurant. I think they converted more than one townhome, or it was an end of block apartment building that they converted. Regardless, it is much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. They have a full bar with wonderful and unique craft cocktails. I highly recommend you try something new every time you go. The food is delicious and well prepared. On our most recent trip, we had the fig Crostini, which was delicious albeit a bit messy. We also had the portobello mushroom cap, which, unfortunately, was not as well balanced. It was not poorly prepared, it just felt a little bland and flat for us. We also tried the petite fillet, which was a small portion size as expected and went well with our small plates approach to dinner. Finally, we tried the Maryland crabcakes. These were well seasoned and decently prepared, but personally, I like to have more crab meat and less filler, even if it means a smaller crabcake. I would suggest getting rid of most of the filler, and simply serving the same amount of crab meat in a smaller crabcake size. Last night they had a burlesque show in the upstairs bar area, which was very enjoyable, and a unique experience. I've been occasionally dropping in here over the years, hoping each experience will be better than the last or maybe they'll change my mind about something but it always misses the mark. Ambiance: We sat in the upstairs area at a large wooden table covered in very nice decorations, supposedly for a wedding that was going to happen. I was in the neighborhood after a long day of running around and decided to give Of Love & Regret a visit. It was around 4pm so I knew I could get in on some Happy Hour deals! When I arrived, the place was pretty quiet and staff was still completing their side work in preparation for the evening rush. I was the only person in there and felt a little bad I was disrupting their workflow but everyone was super nice and friendly. I ordered a cocktail of my choice which is the first option on the Happy Hour cocktail menu. Choose a spirit of your liking and a mixer for $5. I got whiskey and ginger beer. Whew! This drink was strrrrong. Well worth the $5. I also ordered the pretzel with dipping sauces which was also on the Happy Hour menu. I was a little surprised when the pretzel came out because it wasn't actually a pretzel. It was more like bread with cheese and mustard dipping sauces. It was pretty good but definitely not a pretzel (as you can see from the pic, it doesn't even really look like a pretzel, kinda strange). I wouldn't order that again. They specialize in handcrafted cocktails, and even offer some of their specialty cocktails on happy hour along with glasses of wine. (Spoiler alert- they were so good we ordered twice) My fiancée is a burger connoisseur, so the stakes were high. After checking out the menu I ordered the Smash burger and the OLAR classic burger. We got everything delivered for date night and started to chow down. I can say that was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten.
