    Perfect Sunday brunch
    Judy B.

2nd time here and it doesn't disappoint- sat outside for a Sunday morning brunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful morning, shaded table[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], friendly service, delicious food, lovely neighborhood spot.

TLDR: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decent brunch with acceptable food and service, but table design issues and dim lighting made the visit less enjoyable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] With so many options in Canton, I likely would not return. I decided to meet up with a few friends for Sunday brunch at Of Love and Regret and had a perfectly acceptable experience, though nothing stood out enough to draw me back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated at the large high top communal table in the rear of the restaurant, which came with a pretty significant downside (literally). The table is a resin finished live edge slab, so it keeps the natural contours of the wood. One of the edges is not perfectly planed, causing glasses and plates to constantly slide off the table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not a deal breaker, but definitely a distraction and something we had to monitor throughout the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lighting in that section was also extremely dim and relied almost entirely on natural light to brighten the space. It made reading the menu and enjoying the atmosphere a bit more difficult.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As for the food, it was fine. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was well put together and satisfying but nothing special. My wife had the chicken and waffles and felt the same way. The breakfast nachos we split as a table were the highlight of the meal, as they were fun to munch on as we chatted. Service was also just okay. There were a few moments where we needed to track down our server for refills. Overall, this was an okay experience but in a neighborhood like Canton where brunch options are plentiful and competitive, I probably would not return.

I'd been to Of Love And Regret (OLAR) before, but it's been well over 10 years, more like 13 or 14. I don't live in the area, and when I visit, it's usually to Canton Square. But I do recall OLAR having good food and good beer. This past weekend though, I returned to OLAR for my friend's bridal shower. OLAR provided the second floor of their venue for this event. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was really nice up there. Tons of windows so it is well lit, there is a huge bar taking up quite a bit of floor space, and 2 bathrooms. There were a variety of high top tables and chairs, plus a series of tables and chairs were set up for the group to eat together. Tons of twinkle lights hung from the lights and around the room, adding to the charm in the space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great. Whoever was assigned to our party was amazing. She was attentive and saw to our needs very well. I had 2 delightful sangrias while I was there, and ordered a salmon salad for my entree. The salad was good, but the dressing was a little on the harsh side for me. But overall, excellent! I would consider having something at OLAR based on this. After the shower I went downstairs to the main bar. There were no bartenders currently there when I arrived, but there were other patrons who appeared taken care of, so I was confident I'd get service soon. And a bartender did arrive shortly thereafter, directing me to scan a QR code for the beer list. Then she promptly disappeared. When she came back I was able to order one sample of a beer I was interested in, and she brought it to me before disappearing again. I wanted to sample a few others but it seemed like it would take a long time and I abandoned the idea. A little more...attention in the main bar area would go a long way, js.

I visited OLAR with my family for Father's Day and we had a pretty good dining experience! One of my favorite parts of the restaurant when you first walk in is the curated selection of wines available for purchase to take home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also loved that there's additional seating on the second floor--it's beautifully decorated with string lights and flowers, creating a really charming atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've heard they host events here, and I think it would be a great venue for a small, intimate gathering. Service was overall solid. We had a minor issue with our preferred seating on the second floor, but otherwise, the service was decent. I appreciated that they were flexible with the menu--my dad accidentally ordered from the lunch menu during brunch, and they were still able to accommodate his request, which we really appreciated. As for the food, we all enjoyed what we ordered. The wings and the battered, fried bacon were definite table favorites. I got the brunch burger, which I liked. My mom also got wings as her entrée, though she felt $18 for six wings was a bit steep. My dad had the beef bulgogi wraps, and my partner got the Chesapeake crab Benedict--he thought it was good, though not his favorite overall. We also shared the fried mushrooms, which were a big hit. Overall, I'd return and would love to check out their dinner menu next time!

I had Easter brunch with at Love and Regret. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The building is unassuming but when you step in the second floor, OMG, it's a beautiful ambiance. I love the fairy lights and flowers on the tables and around the windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My pictures and videos does not do this place justice. You have to check it out for yourself. Our service, Shay, was wonderful and sweet. I couldn't decide on what I wanted to eat, she helped me decide. I ordered the Shaksushka and so did my friend and my other friend orders the Jack's flats. Our food was delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We all loved the ambiance and want to come back to try the other items in the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I first visited here over a month ago for a private event and overall the service was great and the food and drinks were delicious. This time I visited on a personal visit and the servers did mention that they were short staffed so the wait was a bit long. I think from the time we ordered it took about 45 minutes before our food came out which isn't a probably per se. I ordered the chicken and waffles and unfortunately they forgot to add the Nashville hot syrup. Additionally the chicken was a bit on the drier side with the waffles a bit flat. We also ordered a small plate of breakfast nachos which was delicious, the chips were so crisp and held the toppings well! We also ordered a dozen oysters and they were your typical round of oysters, no weird smell, very buttery and paired nicely with the bourbon horseradish bbq sauce which definitely ask for as they did not have straight horseradish. Price wise I would say expect to spend anywhere between 30-50 pp if not a bit more if you're drinking a few more cocktails. The restaurant is also located on the corner of the street so it is street parking with some pay to park spots along the side right across the street. It is free on Sundays. Where the restaurant earned their stars for me was their service. Despite being short staffed, everyone was in great spirits and no one expressed any sort of frustration or annoyance with the customers. They also chatted with the customers and laughed which was such a nice touch to the visit!

This is a hidden gem. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The owner, staff, environment (first and second floor), and food are phenomenal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Date night or happy hour, choice is yours.

Very clean, very mindful, very demure! I like it here, great customer service, that's how you go to the job! Definitely a whiskey bar. I ordered water and food to go and was the only one here right before they closed and the lady hostess was very kind to me. I definitely enjoyed my short term experience here. I ordered the chicken wrap and fries and it was so good! I highly recommend getting food here.

Of Love & Regret is one my favorite places in Baltimore. I love the name. The staff is so warm and friendly and service is always great. I've been once for drinks and apps, once for dinner, and most recently for brunch. I've truly liked everything I've had. Both the food and drinks are delicious. My favorite meal so far was the steak tips with mac and cheese and broccoli. The steak was tender and delicious. The mac and cheese was on point and the broccoli was the perfect accompaniment. It's hard for me to choose a favorite drink, but they do a really nice old-fashioned here, and even though Midnight Sky is really fun, I'm a whiskey girl through and through. I love the vibes. It's very charming and welcoming. If I lived nearby, it would be my neighborhood bar. I always look forward to returning.

    Pulled pork sandwich

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place was so much fun, and the upstairs was absolutely gorgeous.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was quick and the food was fantastic. I had the artichoke hearts as a starter and then the pulled pork sandwich. The fries are a thick wedge cut and absolutely delicious.

We wandered in here off the cold, windy streets. They had us go upstairs as it was so cold downstairs. Upon entering you could feel the warm vibes of this place. The decor is beautiful. We had several drinks!!! Bartender was funny and kept us on our toes. The glassware is gorgeous!!! The drinks are clever and delicious. Would definitely go back.

We love OLAR for date night, a dinner with friends, or just sitting at the bar. The cocktails are always amazing and unique. They have a huge selection of spirits that you can try. The food is delicious, especially the burgers!!! The fig burger Happy hour is until 6:30 and has a variety of cocktails, beer, wine, and apps! Definitely worth it, especially since the entrees (besides sandwiches) are usually north of $25 but everything I've gotten here is great. The owner Eli (hope I'm spelling right!) is awesome and every staff member we've interacted with is knowledgeable and friendly. This is our go to spot and should be yours too!

    Undercooked Classic Burger

I am never normally one to post a review especially of a small business, but I was discouraged by my meal last night at OLAR. I ordered a classic burger cooked medium well. When it arrived, it was very undercooked. The server took it back and they put it back on for a few more minutes. The server brought it back out and this is still what it looked like! Thankfully I had not eaten more of it but I do feel as though this is still extremely raw.

No bartender in sight, no other patrons, no background noise. For a moment, we genuinely wondered if we were in the right place. The bar is down a flight of stairs, tucked into the basement, and it's notable because it's Fells Point's only and possibly first basement bar, which already gives it serious character points. We waited near the bar for a few minutes, heard nothing, saw no one, and eventually started heading back up the stairs to leave. That's when Steve, the bartender, literally came after usnot in a weird way, but in a very human, "Hey! Sorry about that, I was in the stock room come back in!" way. And honestly? From that moment on, the experience completely flipped. Steve was phenomenal. Friendly, welcoming, deeply knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the place. He's worked there for 18 years, and once we sat down, he turned the bar into a living history lesson. He shared stories about Fells Point, Baltimore, Edgar Allan Poe, the building itself, and all the ghost stories tied to the space. He also told us about the celebrities who've passed through, including the fun detail that Blake Shelton once sat in the very bar stool I was sitting in and ordered a Bullet bourbon. Naturally, that kind of trivia just adds to the charm. Drink-wise, I ordered an Angry Orchard, and my friend had a single Tito's with cranberry and soda water. Our total was $26.16, which feels pretty standard for Baltimore definitely not cheap, but not shocking either. The bar itself is small, intimate, and packed with atmosphere exposed brick, low ceilings, and that cozy, historic, slightly haunted vibe you hope for in a basement bar. It's also connected to The William Fell Inn hotel through a separate entrance, which makes it feel like a hidden secret rather than a tourist stop. We loved the history, the stories, the ghosts, the setting and especially Steve. Being the only patrons that night was actually a gift, because it let us really soak it all in. That said, we're absolutely planning to come back on a busy night to see how the energy shifts when it's full. If you love historic bars, good storytelling, and places that feel like they've seen things Anchor Bar is a must. ‍
