The proprietor here is skilled, down-to-earth and knowledgeable as well as having extremely fair prices. He's also really open about sharing the kind of things you only learn by living in the city with a bike, such as where to ride in the street after a snowstorm to avoid all of the puncture threats that get pushed into the bike lane and then hidden under snow. Unfortunately, the shop is in the middle of my commute, so I've pretty much only gone when I'm in trouble and he's helped swiftly, doing better work than any shop I've been to in the city that's still open. It's always a quick and painless trip when I stop in here for a quick repair or recalibration or whatever the case may be for my bike. The owner is a knowledgeable and friendly guy and the his prices are borderline too friendly at times, but much, much appreciated. He's probably the epitome of what one would want a small business owner to look like. He works quickly and does a pretty thorough job. This place is perfectly convenient being just "off the bridge" bike path. It's easy to limp on over after crossing the bridge and get the service that you need to before being on your way. What you need to know: - Right off the Manhattan Bridge bike path - The front sign says Off The Bridge Coffee, so I actually thought it was just a coffee shop! But it is also a kick-ass bike repair shop. - The owner Qian (pronounced Chi-En) is super awesome and treats you like an old friend. - Accepts credit cards - Qian seemed genuinely concerned about my safety and my bike, instead of just trying to up-sell things to me. He meticulously emailed me a list of things that I should replace in order of urgency and the price break-down. What I ordered: - I got a flat tire riding over the Manhattan bridge and Qian not only replaced my tube, but then he spent an inordinate amount of time picking out all the little glass and pebbles that got embedded in my tire. He used a small pick and then also patched up a part of my tire that got really punctured. I was completely floored by his attentiveness and tender care! Price for tube was $6 and labor was $12. - Qian spent the time educating (not in a condescending mansplaining way) how bike shops sell bikes and don't tell people simple ways to maintain their bikes. I felt bad bringing in my commuter as it's not the most well treated bicycle (especially with the snow and salt these past few weeks) but I was coming off the bridge and my chain just slipped off my chainring and I came to a skidding halt going downhill. The only fresh brewed coffee you will find in this area of town. You would never know it was a coffee spot if not for the super small sign way below eye level. This was a true Yelp find. Coffee was on point. Irving Farms apparently somewhere in NY is the roaster. I was hoping for a latte but they do not have an espresso machine. read more

I had to change my review because I had brakes installed here at the last minute when my current brakes were down to the metal. As it turns out, my brake change was a flop The brakes that were installed lasted two weeks! I've had my old brakes for two years with every day use as a courier, and the brakes that were installed didn't cut it. I could maybe think that they were installed off position allowing for increased ware, but two weeks is ridiculous which leads me to the conclusion that the rubber was cheap. As informed by the employee, this coffee joint has been open for only 13 days...I needed a quick pick me up for a stressful long day and the coffee got me wired. I got exactly what I came for. I got the large cold brew coffee which already has espresso shots mixed in for $4. There was no half and half but whole milk. soy and almond milk. The guy helping me was very nice. I had offered to pay for service to fill my tires, which they declined but was then again reprimanded and told that if I wasn't smart enough to know how to use the pump outside by myself that I shouldn't be biking. Off the Bridge is one of the few bike shops in nyc open before your regular 9-5 hr making it super convenient to get your bike fixed. The location is also great - right at the foot of Manhattan bridge in Manhattan. It looks more like a coffee shop from the outside but those who know, know. It's a nice local spot for a quick fill up (air coffee or lite food) for bikers. ----- wrote the previous after my first visit. Almost two years later I still go in here. Just stopped in for a tyre truing (more than reasonable pricing) and his attention to detail is key! Not only did he fine tune the spokes but he filled the tires and adjusted the brakes perfectly. I went in to get 1 problem solved, and ended up needing much more. He was 100% honest about additional issues, explained them to me and showed me what was wrong compared to brand new equipment. He took some extra time and made the effort to try and find me a cost friendly replacement for a major part in the back of the shop. Super friendly, and the customers that came in were regulars that knew him and were friendly as well. They all answered all of my rookie questions and gave me a lot of tips on maintenance and other bike knowledge. It was fun, educational, welcoming and the final bill was pretty damn reasonable!
