Decided to go here because I have loved our experiences at Just Hooked and Hooked. The food was still very good, but the atmosphere and service here are lacking. We got an order to go for an early dinner (4:30) and it felt like the restaurant gave us leftovers for lunch. (We ate the dinner ten minutes after we picked it up.) The fish and chips was over crispy, to the point of being like fish jerky and the fries were rubbery like when you eat fries the next day. So disappointing as the high rating lured us in to try it. In a word, disappointing. To begin, the service was great. From the hostess being able to accommodate a walk-in party of 7 on a Friday evening to our server, everyone was helpful and friendly. But overall, this place isn't ready for prime time. It's not cheap to begin with which is fine, but you should be able to live up to that, which they didn't. First, no oysters. I don't even like those nasty bottom dwellers, but many in our party did and they...just don't have them? Next, we had two crab cake entrees come out as two completely different plates. Weird and they were all shredded crab, not anything resembling lump crab meat. (my Maryland people get me here) Then they didn't have the first bottle of wine we asked for, ok - no biggie. So we went with the backup and nowhere on the menu did it say it was a sparkling wine. Our server admitted that she hadn't ever had it so I guess that's an excuse, but whatever. She was clearly new because she asked one of the kids if they wanted fries with the kids fish and chips...which was kinda funny. Wasn't going to let any of this ruin the night. The appetizers we ordered were the fish dip (basically it was tunafish) and the dates. Both were meh as were the rest of the entrees, nothing blew us away. So then the check comes, which was a few hundred dollars, to be expected and there is 10% fee for us if we use a credit card. I almost couldn't believe it. Yeah, no - I'm good. Our Party of six for Dinner enjoyed 5 different seafood entrees and one steak dinner which were all excellent. We also enjoyed and shared 3 appetizers that were excellent as well, highly recommend the crab dip with pretzels. Desserts are all made in-house, key lime pie was our favorite. I was part of a party of six. We called in advance and were informed that they did not take reservations. We decided to go shortly after they opened in hopes of getting a spot. We arrived around 5:30 and had a slightly strange interaction with the hostess. Who stated that my party had to be seated at a smaller table because a different person was waiting for a table of six as well though their party was not there. Once seated we were promptly greeted and drinks were ordered. They were out of three different beers that a member of our party ordered, so they settled for something different. We all asked for waters as well which only came after we asked again before our appetizers were served. When the food was served the server dropped a ketchup all over my brother-in-laws shirt. They apologized of course and luckily he had another shirt on underneath his dress shirt so they offered to go rinse off his shirt which he was grateful for. We were able to all eat dinner which the consensus was that the food was quite good and the seafood ordered was fresh. We noticed that there was a surplus of glassware and limited elbow room on/at our table as no one was removing any dirty dishes or glassware. The check was finally brought out. Remember that accident when the ketchup was spilled all over the shirt? Well there was no compensation, at all for this slip up. When we kindly asked about it the manager rather rudely stated "well what do you want?!". We informed them that we sort of assumed there would be some sort of discount or compensation for the mishap. They seemed puzzled by this idea as if to say that it was unheard of to do something like this in the restaurant industry. They eventually gave us a meager discount and we paid and quickly left rather than engage in conversation further with them. I gave them 2 stars because the food was genuinely good but the service and attitudes of the employees put a bit of a damper on things for us. read more

Definitely a great spot to try if you're visiting Bethany! They have some top notch food, great daily specials, and lots of cocktails to choose from. The boom boom shrimp is crispy, flavorful, and feeds a crowd of slightly intoxicated girls on a beach trip. All the dishes seemed to be consumed pretty quickly at our table which is always an indication of a positive meal. I personally loved the fish special and it was prepared perfectly - exactly what I wanted that night! On our trip to Ocean City we stopped in to have what we hoped would be a nice dinner. After being seated our server brought out water and took our order. She returned with some bread and left. My appetizer arrived and I had to catch the servers attention to ask for silverware and napkins since there wasn't any on the table. Our meals soon arrived and mine had to be sent back. The chicken as burnt and dry which made it very tough to chew. I ordered the crab dip as a replacement which was very salty. My friends ordered the mahi-mahi and tuna which looked very yummy but each dish was served with cold fruit and cold couscous. Basically they paid $40 each for a fish salad. I was very disappointed with the meal especially since our bill was over $100. As we were leaving the server made some very rude remarks to one of my friends because she was he one who initially said something about my chicken. The comment was loud enough the entire bar area heard her. I don't recommend this restaurant especially if they treat their customers that way. read more

Kids meals were huge portions but for $8 the Mac n cheese was nothing but boxed kraft that's sad and unacceptable when (as a side ) they offer good Mac n cheese??? Why not use the same. This place is a bit expensive, but the price is worth it. I was here with a friend of mine who does a lot of underwater hunting himself and knows a thing or two about the fish. First, when we arrived, the staff was very helpful and were able to accommodate the demands for the table of my friend, who was quite picky. The server who served us was always there when needed, but without hovering unnecessary and was very curteous and gave great advice. This place is by far one of the best services I've gotten in the US, including top level restaurants - props to them! We've started by ordering a pair of Crabcakes for my friend and a blue-cooked tuna for myself. Unexpectedly, we were also served surprisingly good bread with olive oil (we've both spent years living in France and hence are rarely satisfied with restaurant bread elsewhere). In that case, the bread quality was outstanding! When our dishes arrived, both our dishes were amazing, both for the meat and the sides they were coming with. My tuna was lightly seared on the outside, raw on the inside and incredibly fresh! They also advised us seasonal beers to go with our dishes and they were great choices! The deserts around here were amazing - peach cobbler with blackberries and ice cream along with a chocolate floating cake were absolutely delicious and well-balanced in their taste - something that is so hard to find outside major cities. Off the Hook held its reputation for deserts with brio! Finally, I must as well commend the coffee they brought with the desserts - although it was a "Standard drip" according to the server, my friend qualified it as "the best coffee he had in the US so far", which, given his taste, is a pretty good commendation and that I could not agree only due to my visits to specialized coffee shops in San Francisco. I would have liked to give this restaurant 4 stars instead of 3, because I really enjoyed my food. However, I had to many issues to rightly hit 4 stars. First thing, upon arriving we were told there would be a 25 minute wait. However there were at least 5 tables open with only one family ahead of us. We chose to wait, and we're then seated in 5 mins. Very odd ! I guess we can chalk this up to a young inexperienced hostess, Or perhaps they wanted to go home early? As we absolutely enjoyed the renovations, we did have some issues. Our ambiance was staring into the kitchen, not very pleasing to us. The lights were way to bright, we felt like we were in a school cafeteria. Also, we were never offered your outstanding bread! I believe these corrections are reachable, because your food was worth it and Josh our waiter was pleasant and courteous. We would like to dine again, perhaps in a more dimly lit dining area, not so close to the open kitchen. We were seated at one of the high tables by the kitchen. While this is one of our favorite restaurants, last night our carry out order was disappointing. We had three orders of the Day Boat Scallops and one order of the Cioppino. The scallop dish was extremely salty. Not sure If the saltiness came from the bacon but the saltiness made the dish unpleasant for all three of us. The cioppino was very good however I would suggest wrapping the bread that comes with it, separately for take out orders. The bread got into the broth and got very soggy. read more

Was celebrating my wife's and my BD and looking for something new . I am glad we found this place. For a Tuesday night , it was packed. Molly was our waitress and she was great. She explained the specials and answered any questions we had. We had the Cesar salad and the Bibb salad both were great. For appetizers we had the mussels and the Kung Po Brussels, again excellent. For dinner I had the blackened sea bass and wife had the Chipino. Desert was key lime pie and chocolate tort. If you want great seafood and are in the Bethany Beach area,please do yourself a favor and eat here. read more

We looked on Yelp for suggestions of a nicer dinner place to go other than the usual pizza joints and fried "stuff" Really glad we followed everyone's suggestions and went here. When we first walked in a saw how small the place really was our first thought was it was going to be a long wait. To our surprise the fit us in and before you know it we had our wine, bread and appetizers were on the way. Long story short the food was great, service was out of this world (Julianne the bar tender) Our only complaint was we felt it was a bit pricey, but we did want something more than the usual unhealthy beach "stuff" so you do get what you pay for and we did pay for great food and service which was worth every penny. We did take out simply because it gets crowded.... but the quality of the food was not lost in taking it out, back to our hotel.... Roasted corn and jalapeño crab bisque, Delish. Crispy pork belly, interesting, savory. Cioppino, seared scallops and butchers cut from the humble offerings; all super yum. Ordered a side of Brussels sprouts, very nice. Post Beach Meal... very friendly and conversational staff. Have been to Hooked before but new to this sister locations. Salads were phenomenal... I added tricolored beets to grilled asparagus Cobb ... multi palleted dish and filling with veggies and braised bacon. The jammy eggs were my fav. My husband ordered the Spring Pea Salad with shrimp! Waitress (Olga) was very nice. Our family has 3 children & she was pleasant & friendly. Drinks came out fast, followed by a really nice fresh bread/olive oil/garlic/& Rosemary mix. Dinner came out soon after. I had crab cakes, very big & delicious. Much crabmeat. Wife got scallops, they were delicious but they were small & only 6 of them. The kids got chicken fingers & fries which were good, the youngest got Mac & cheese that looked like it came out of a box, but she ate it so meh. With wine the bill came out to just under $100, which was an expensive 4 star meal. We will be back to try different parts of the menu. Overall give it a try! read more
