Okay, all I had was this cake, BUT I stand firmly when I say this slice of cake was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my entire life. I don't even like nuts and it had hazelnut and I didn't care. It melts in your mouth. It's like $4 too, so why wouldn't you? I was at the wharf and popped into their bakery in front of the restaurant and bought this as a quick snack only to discover I have put liquid heaven in my mouth. You MUST eat this cake. I went on the half off pasta Wednesday, but nothing really impressed me about this place. Heres why: Ambiance: 5/5 - I sat at the bar with my friends but they also had a section for an Italian store within the restaurant. I thought that was a nice touch to help distinguish this place from others on the Wharf. Price: 4/5 - This is only for the half off. If the price is half off then it may be worth it, but personally I still don't think so. Food: 2/5 - I think the food lacked flavor. The pastas had small portions and were overpriced if it wasn't for the half off day. The appetizer I had that is pictured was not bad, but I was a bit confused on what it was trying to be. It felt like a dumpling meets a samosa meets an egg. It was just a confusing combination of flavors. Service: 3.5/5 - The staff was super friendly, but my waiter had no idea about anything on the menu. I'm not sure if he had just started there so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but he wasn't really able to answer any of my questions. Recently went to Officina for a private event and was blown away by not only the ambience from the rooftop but also the food. The view from the rooftop overlooks The Wharf and provides a great view of the water and Seafood Market below. To start I had the Burrata d'Andria. I was impressed by how well all the flavors blended together. For my mains, I had the Tortelloni di Zucca and the Rigatoni All'amatriciana. Both were great but the Tortelloni was the standout dish. The flavors were perfectly balanced and it tasted divine. The only trouble was just with parking in the area. It can be hard to find parking in the garage near by and it won't be cheap. Despite the possible issues with parking, I would definitely recommend trying this place! read more

I've been to Officina a handful of times, all great experiences, but went recently for the first time in probably a couple of years. Unfortunately it's just not the same as it used to be. We got the focaccia bread, which was delicious, as was the lobster bisque. The Fritto Misto was not. It was very disappointing. Served on this huge plate with a huge bowl, it looks sad. The calamari and shrimp were tiny with not many and it was soggy. I just don't get it and would not recommend it. Same with the Caesar salad. It was fine, but nothing great. You could tell the romaine was precut and in the fridge cause of how cold it was. It was just very mediocre. The tagliatelle and cacio de Pepe were both good and the price was reasonable for them both. We also got buttered noodles, meatball, and milk off the kids menu. IT WAS $36. The milk itself was $9. It does not make sense. Her buttered noodles and meatballs were the same, if not more, than a pasta off the regular menu. I don't mind spending money on good food but this was just overall a disappointing experience and we now won't be back. Given the other recent reviews I don't see it lasting much longer. read more

My in-laws took us to Officina for dinner on Friday night. We had a 6pm reservation and it was fairly empty, but definitely filled up by the time we left. We were seated upstairs under a dripping AC vent. A member of the waitstaff saw and helped us scootch our table over to the left. Service was OK, it wasn't awful but it wasn't anything to write home about. A few times we were left without any water and had to remind our waiter for refills. Another time we wanted some bread to soak up the sauce in our pasta dishes and could not flag anyone down. To start, we had an order of their calamari to start. It was fine, squid pieces were pretty small but it did have shrimps and shishito peppers, which were good. For my main, I had the veal ravioli, which was good. X had their cacio e pepe, which was more salt than pepper. If I had ordered that dish, I'm not sure I would've been able to finish it. For the price point, I felt like the pasta portions were extremely small. We split a tiramisu for dessert and it was also just fine. Overall, our meal was fine. I did really enjoy my Sazerac gin cocktail. read more

We had reservations for 5:45 at Officina and were seated promptly - it was the only expedient par of the entire experience. Our waitress was sweet and clearly still learning English. So we were patient with her as we gave and explained our drink orders and later our food selections. But everything arrived so slowly. When each item finally arrived, it was simply average. We skipped dessert because, after two hours, we simply didn't find a reason to be late for our show for what would likely be a disappointing final course. Would we go again? Probably not. Should others avoid? Also, probably not. It's likely we hit it on an off night. read more

We stopped there before attending a concert at the anthem which is all walkable from the L'Enfant Plaza metro stop. There is the option of casual/quick dining downstairs, or sit down upstairs. We opted for quick dining since we were in a bit of a rush. Less than pleased with the food, the flavors were off and not as tasty or filling as we had hoped. The food was great - each entre, wine, side, etc. but what really made this a 5 star experience was the OUTSTANDING service from our waiter JAMES. He was informative, attentive without being overbearing, and made the whole experience one of the best (17 years in DC), especially for the wharf (which can be short on customer service). We came here as a group of 4 on a Friday evening for dinner... The staff was friendly in greeting and seating us and we loved the venue, very nicely decorated with the glass-walled wine cellar. We found plenty of interesting drinks in their cocktail list and wine list and definitely tried something from both lists! The server we got was decent, but not very friendly nor communicative, but the somm was borderline rude with the attitude we picked up on, similar to pretentiousness. But, we got past that and enjoyed the food and conversation. When it came to the food... this was one of the better steaks I've ever had! Two of us shared the huge, bone-in rib eye (I think it was 29oz) and it was done perfectly! The marrow-based sauce was very tasty and the fingering potatoes were outstanding! The only food item we didn't care for was the dessert, it was too sweet and hard and not very impressive. But overall, for $700 for 4 of us, it was nice to try Officina, but way over-priced and the next time I'm in this area, I might try something else, since there are so many options. read more

Ambience on the second floor was beautiful, especially around Christmastime. Very disappointed in the service and the food. When we arrived, the staff seemed visibly upset about our arrival. After they audibly disagreed with each other in front of us, we found out that they take turns seating people upstairs. The staffer seating us complained that it was not their turn as they were escorting us up the elevator. Very awkward. The meal itself was over salted and nothing special for the price tag. (Really delicious wine though.) When our waiter came back to ask us if we wanted anything else, we were told the kitchen had closed 15 minutes prior. We had planned to order more appetizers and dessert, so a heads up and opportunity to put that order in would have been nice. I would definitely not return. There is something about a high-end chain that always sits different. It lacks the charm and personal feel of a "mom and pop", but still retains some amazing qualities that are worth exploring. Oficina hits this perfectly. Overall setting and view are incredible. In DC's wharf, it has incredible views of the Potomac. It is also very formulaic. It lacked individuality. The drinks were spectacular and food was great but not spectacular. The gelato (we had pistachio) made the evening for us. By the time we finished, the mercato closed and weather prevented us from exploring the roof deck. I will definitely come back and give this another try. read more

This place requires a $15 deposit per person for reservation (because of that, I would expect the food to be good.) But it turned out the cocktails were delicious, but not the food. I ordered the Frittata de Funghi (organic eggs, roasted mushroom, fresh herbs, parmigiana.) It seemed like the chef swapped the parmigiana with goat cheese or some sort of very very aged cheese without telling the customer. The taste was very harsh and strong. I ate 10% of the dish and wasted the rest. In addition, the restrooms on the first floor, which are unisex, not very clean, smelly with wet tile floor. read more

She was so personable and had recommendations for all courses. It was my first time here so she was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. They also have a great happy hour menu! We took our Mom heat for her 60th birthday and they proceeded to walk us to a back corner despite us asking to be seated by the front. When we flagged the manager down he rolled his eyes as he approached us and barely mustered together a genuine apology. As we placed our orders only 75% of the items actually came out. We left feeling shaken, and it was heartbreaking at how comfortable members of the Officina staff were with disrespecting us. Upon leaving I let Stephen, the manager, know about the poor experience and service and the indifference couldn't have been clearer. Came here for restaurant week with a group of 4 friends. This place has been on my hit list due to the accolades it has received and the beautiful views of the water. I see some people surprised by the fees, but I felt the website and menu were very transparent about them. If you are driving or ride sharing here, I would recommend allowing extra time on Fridays and Saturdays. It gets quite congested and the wharf garage also fills up very quickly due to all the attractions in the neighborhood. We arrived roughly 8 minutes after our 5 pm reservation and it was very empty. Despite not being busy and having a reservation, we waited 10 minutes in the lobby while the host awkwardly radioed multiple times to the waitstaff to confirm they were ready to seat us. Eventually we were seated at a table on the 2nd floor balcony, which was covered (but outdoors) and had a lovely view. Hands down the ambience was top notch. Beyond the awkward seating, service was odd. Three different servers came to our table to run through the menu and take drink orders before our "real" waiter arrived. He did clarify he'd be with us through the rest of the meal and was regularly attentive through each of the 4 courses we ordered. Zero complaints about the food, which was all beautifully presented and seasonally selected. The summer corn ravioli was my favorite of the courses. I'm hoping the service sharpens up a bit being a Michelin star and all-- then this spot would be perfect. I would absolutely go again to enjoy casual drinks and plates with a view. Friend and I went for DC restaurant week. The food and drinks were excellent, which is why I'm giving 4 stars. However, the service was subpar at best. Our waitress forgot our order halfway through the prix fixe even though she had written it down. Another waiter showed up with a second round of the same dishes at one point. And worst of all, we each got a drink pairing, but our drinks weren't even delivered until we were almost done with the matching course. Officina is a massive Italian restaurant/market/bar near the Maine Avenue Fish Market at the DC Wharf. Overall, we had a great experience except for the service. Here's our experience: Space: It's a huge, beautifully designed restaurant. The first floor has some seating, a bar, and a market selling fresh pasta, bread, and other Italian goods. The second floor has another bar and a large dining room. There's also outdoor seating on the balcony overlooking the Maine Avenue Fish Market, the oldest continuously operating fish market in the country. Food: It's definitely quality Italian food. Warm, fresh bread comes to every table and you have the option of still or sparkling water. To start, we ordered the beet salad and burrata, both good (the beet salad has apples in it FYI). I ordered the scallops for my main and it was really delicious. Four large scallops in cream sauce come on a plate. The only complaint is the service. Our server was not very friendly and very slow. If we needed anything, we had to flag him down several times before he brought it. He never brought us water when we needed it and he forgot to give us the check.
