I've been a loyal customer with Ogata Eye Care for many years yet my most recent experience made me realize I cant trust their services any longer. I went in to get a new annual prescription and then ordered glasses with that prescription. It turns out the prescription was incorrect so I had to go back to Ogata Eye Care so that they could retest me and gave me an adjusted prescription. This was good, however, I had found this out because I had already spent $205 on glasses that are now useless. Dr Ogata's team admitted that they had made a mistake. They then told me to see if the eye glass company would give me a discount and refused to help balance this extra expense by refunding part of my initial out of pocket expense from their mistake. I don't understand why their mistake should be a burden on me and the eye glass company, instead of Ogata's team. I had to spend another $169 to get another set of glasses yet still no accountability by Ogata's team. I can't go back here again as a result of this and my, now lack of trust, with their team. read more

I stopped in today on the off chance that they may be able to accommodate a walk in. They were unfortunately booked for the day but they did agree to put me on a standby list. I received a call within an hour letting me know they would be able to squeeze me in. Everyone from the associate in the adjoining store, the people at reception and the doctor himself were extremely friendly and professional. I've been seeing eye doctors for 30 years and this ranks as one of the easiest, friendliest, no nonsense appointments that I've ever had. They handed me my glasses prescription as I walked out the door with zero sales pressure or hassle. They confirmed all of my insurance information with just my phone number, without me even telling them I even had insurance. Yes, the location at Lloyd Center is kind of depressing right now but these folks are my new go to. After years of not being able to get an accurate prescription for my finicky eyes, I settled for an okay prescription with which I could at least see and feel comfortable. Last year, though, being fairly new to Oregon, I scheduled my annual eye exam with a new doctor. I spent $400 on a pair of glasses since the doctor was convinced she'd gotten my prescription right. I wore them for a month, thinking eventually my eyes would get used to them, but constant headaches made me switch back to an old pair. I ended up moving to Portland in that time so going back to the old place to seek recourse would have been more work than it was worth (I did leave them a cranky Yelp review. Take that!) Sadly, that old pair of frames lost an arm (or a temple?) after many mediocre years of service and I was stuck with my expensive mistake. So for the last month I've been dealing with headaches and annoying vision because I was too stubborn to pay for another exam and another pair of glasses and frames that may or may not be correct. Finally, last week my expensive frames that the other clinic had told me would never break ("the flexibility's what makes it strong!") broke. It also lost an arm and because these frames are too fancy for screws, there's nothing I could do to fix them. Boo. Which brings me to my review. The last time I had a good prescription, the doctor had been at LensCrafters. My brain decided that, even though they're completely separate entities, I might as well give the doc's office at my local LensCrafters a shot, especially since I'd be able to get new glasses super quickly. The doctor I saw was Daniel Ogata and he was amazing. Super quick, very friendly and understanding, and he discounted my exam since I had one so recently. The experience was great but the new prescription would be the real test. Today I received my glasses and they're amazing! It feels like when I first got glasses sophomore year of high school and realized I could see every blade of grass. So clear. So comfortable. So happy. I could not recommend more! read more

I was sitting at work today when I realized just how awful my eyes felt. My wonderful 5 year old daughter seems to have thrown away my glasses (or hidden them in the ultimate game of hide and seek!) so I've been without them for a few weeks and today it hit home. I looked up Ogata Eyecare/LensCrafters because I remembered they took great care of me a couple of years ago. Sure enough, five minutes later I had scheduled a same-day appointment online. (Note, sometimes online appointments are still available even if you call the office and they say they don't have any - definitely double-check!) When I was in the waiting area, I saw a gentleman leave his appointment in great spirits. It actually made me smile! Then I had my appointment and I knew why he had been so happy - the staff are fabulous. Both the person who performed my vision tests and Dr. Daniel Ogata were super. I laughed a lot, wasn't embarrassed about wearing makeup to the appointment (most eye doctors chide me for that but I came straight from work, lol). I liked Dr. Ogata. He was very no-nonsense about the poor state of my eyes, but he had a good sense of humour, and he was very reassuring. He handed me my prescription and said that I could go to the Lenscrafters his office is attached to, or go to the glasses store across the store, or whatever. This was refreshing, compared to other optometrists who push you to go to the glasses store that's right there. The desk staff was also very pleasant. I saw Dr Russell from a referral from my friends when I was having a major eye emergency. They were able to fit me in same day for an emergency appointment. When Dr Russell saw me, he immediately referred me to a retina specialist that also squeezed me in the same day. Dr Russell was so very nice, professional, and also hilarious. Definately a great thing considering my emergency. I have visited him twice, second time for my annual eye exam, and I will definately recommend him to anyone that needs an opthamologist. read more

I have been going to them for a few years, they were great in the beginning, now... they are awful !! Had my exam, decided to buy my contacts at Costco, they were cheaper there, I don't have insurance - It took me over a week to get the prescription sent to me, and to get the correct one. Both the eye doctor and the person assisting me had attitudes, at one point I was sent the wrong prescription ( power) and was told " it's close enough"... really?? Now 4 months later my eye sight is awful - everything is a fuzz - called them today, they can assist me for a fee!! $ 40.00 just to see if the contacts fit properly, then the full price of the exam to see why the vision is off ! Guess this is the new way of customer service - they have gone down hill in a major way - keep looking for a different eye care provider - Ogata doesn't "care" read more

Dr. Ogata is pretty awesome and I like that going there is convenient (it is located in the Lens Crafters at Lloyd Center mall). I've always gotten in on time and my appointments are quick--like 15-20 minutes! I'm also a big fan of being able to go online and schedule an appointment. All appointment times let you know which of the optometrists you will be seeing ( I always see Dr. Ogata himself). and you can choose a different location as well (there are 2 or 3 different offices). Everyone there is nice and they take a really big variety of insurance plans, so chances are you will be covered. I really just like when things are convenient, it goes a long way with me. read more

My husband and I recently moved to Portland and Ogata Eyecare was recommended to us by a couple that we met at a local restaurant. We walked-in without an appointment and discovered that this is a popular place! We were able to make an appointment for the following week. We arrived a little early for our appointment, but they went ahead and took us back immediately. I saw Dr. Dale Ogata. He was very friendly, didn't rush through the appointment ( I felt I was receiving his full attention and care), and he explained medical terms in a way that made sense. Dr. Ogata was wonderful and so was his entire office staff. I'm not sure of the name of the doctor that my husband saw, but I met her when my husband came out and she was really nice. I go to different places every year for my eye exam because I'm usually trying to find the best deal. This was my first time with vision insurance so I just had to find somewhere in-network. I'm so glad I found Ogata -- the best spot I've been to. The staff from reception to doctors is so kind. They were just nice to chat with in the lulls of my visit. I got great care both for my medical problem and my vision exam and I felt like Dr. Nguyen was really trying to give me the best advice, not push unnecessary products or treatments on me. You probably know if you've been to many optometrists that it's hard to walk away without feeling a little scammed -- you paid extra for some treatment here, another there and not sure if you actually needed them. I've been coming to this location for my eye exam and contact lens prescription for several years. While I've never been exactly "wowed" by my experiences here, it's been good enough to keep me coming back every year for my contact lens prescription - which requires a yearly exam. I've liked that I can normally get an appointment on short notice and that - after the initial visit they have my insurance info on file and what is applicable is already figured out and applied to the bill. Convenient. So here's where it all went in the crapper: After receiving several emails letting me know I'm overdue for my yearly visit - I thought "yeah, I better get on that" - plus, I was almost out of contacts. So - I call, a few times and only get the automated system. Leaving no message I decide to make my appointment on-line. The program asks me for three choices and says someone will contact me or I'll get an email with an appointment. So - I waIt. Several hours later I get an email saying they received my request and that I'll be notified "soon" with an appointment. Tic Tock Tic Tock - and it is now the next day. Nothing. Tic Tock Tic Tock. Nothing. Now it's late in the afternoon of day two of trying to schedule an appointment. So - I call. Big surprise- the automated system picks up but this time I leave a message. I say that I am almost out of contacts AND that I have a number of other things I need to schedule- but that getting my contacts is my priority so could someone please call me to schedule an appointment. Tic Tock. Nothing. So I send an email asking for an appointment confirmation. Tic Tock. Nothing. By this time it is around 5:00 pm day 2 - and I'm more than a little pissed. How long should it take to make a freakin" eye appointment? Well, I'll tell you... It took me about five minutes to find an new eye doctor in my area on-line. Then it took less than a whooping minute to call them. There - a HUMAN answered the phone. It's a miracle! Then it took less than five minutes to schedule an appointment- for the day after next - AND to give my insurance info. We also did a quick pricing run through. Amazing. Less than 15 minutes - including finding this new doctor. So - congratulations, Dr. Ogata and staff! I'm guessing that going to the automated phone system and the on-line appointment making was designed to save your business some money. Well, it just cost you mine - and any future money I might have continued to spend there. Plus - the bargain advertising cost of me telling anyone who will listen - what crap service I got here AS WELL as this Yelp review - free to anyone who might be looking for an eye doctor. With literally hundreds of eye doctors to choose from in the Portland area - why would you make it so freakin' hard for a customer to spend their money with you? It's a mystery - to me at least! UPDATE: Today is Thursday. I made my first attempt at getting an appointment on Monday. So - today at 1:00pm I get an email from them saying I have an appointment at 3:00 - as in two hours away. He is super friendly, knowledgeable, and seems to really care about his patients. He remembered me from over a year ago! The staff is also very professional and friendly and helpful. I have been going to Dr. Ogata Sr. and Dr. Ogata Jr. for a about 4 years. I initially started coming to Ogata eye care because it is close to my office and takes my insurance. But, what keeps bringing me back is the excellent service I receive. I recently went in and it took 4 tries to find me the right pair of contacts and Dr. Ogata Sr. was patient and kind. Located right in Lloyd Center mall, Ogata EyeCare made it a breeze to schedule an eye exam and get a prescription. The staff was welcoming and friendly and not pushy at all. Since I already knew where I wanted to purchase my glasses, the sales staff in Lens Crafters asked me a few questions about my prescription after leaving my exam but did not pressure me into looking at the selection they had. The number one perk for me was that Ogata EyeCare is open on Sundays. Very convenient for those that have to work during the week. I will return again if I ever need my eyes checked. read more

5 star doctors, negative 5 star reception/customer service people. I've had two annual eye exams here and always felt the dr to be friendly and knowledgeable. The other staff however couldn't care less to be helpful or pleasant to deal with. It's time for my annual visit and I actually called and scheduled because I do really like the dr! Seeing Dr. Ogata was a great experience. He was very nice, nothing was complicated, and he gave me many options and let me know which ones where less expensive without me having to ask. Everything was left up to me and I was given some extra contacts for my upcoming trip so I could decide what is most comfortable before purchasing. I hadn't been to an optometrist in many years, and chose Ogata mainly through a friend's recommendation and its convenient Lloyd Center location. I had no idea what to expect; I just knew I needed glasses. I came away a very short time later with a full diagnostic (including a clean bill of eye health), a prescription for new glasses, and a very good feeling. Dr Nguyen was pleasant and friendly, as were the people at the front desk, who had sorted out my insurance coverage before I arrived, and who were patient with me as I realized I'd forgotten my wallet and had to make a few phone calls to organize a credit card for my co-payment. What's more, they seem to have the latest high tech diagnostic equipment, which saves a lot of time. It was a great experience, and I'll go back for regular eye exams. read more

I saw Dr Ogata on a Monday afternoon and the wait was not bad, only 5-10 minutes. The staff was nice and thorough. I opted for the extra $20 imaging just to be sure nothing else was wrong with my eyes and so I didn't need to dilate my pupils. When I saw the Dr he was also very thorough and asked many questions to best diagnose and prescribe the correct lenses. The only issues I have is that there is not an answering machine during off hours or at least an answering service that states hours of operation or something. Just kinda rings forever. The other issue is more of an inconvenience than an issue, the office is a bit of a drive for me. All those things aside, it is a well run, friendly practice. If you live or work close to the mall, this practice is great! read more

Why I selected Ogata EyeCare initially were the hours (10 a.m. - 7 p.m.), hours 7 days a week, and location in Lloyd Center with vast amounts of FREE parking. Not to mention they accepted my insurance plan and booked me an appointment on the day and at the time that I preferred. My exam experience exceeded my expectations. I left very happy! Attentive and cordial staff, brief waiting time, efficient routine exam, brand new décor and exam rooms, very capable/attentive/thoughtful optometrist. Dr. Ogata's office gives great care. As someone with poor eye sight (and other eye issues) forever, I hesitated at the idea of seeing a doctor in the mall, however I was convinced to go and have been very happy there for years. I do think that besides expertise (which any doctor i have seen there has), you also need to connect with your doctor for peace of mind, which is part of your health care. I have been seeing Dr. Nguyen and she explains everything for me so I understand the issues. If something urgent comes up (like fear of a retinal tear) their hours allow someone to see you right away. If your son says he doesn't have contacts for tomorrow, someone can see him right away. They deliver great care and great hours! read more
