Laurel bakes the best cakes we've ever tasted and is a great cake artist! She baked a cake for our son Nihal's 4th birthday last year. She also gave us a complimentary Napolitan cake when we stopped by her house to order the cake. Let me not forget to mention that her house smelled like yummy cakes, cookies & christmas fun, almost felt like we were in Santa Clause's christmas workshop. Nihal loves trains and he got a train load full of cake & candy!! She baked 9 train freight cars, each decorated like the character candle on top of the car. The cake was loaded with oreo cookies for wheels, m&m's and other yummy candies. All the guests raved at the cake on the table, for a moment guests wondered where the cake was until they realized that the train was the cake! I've emailed my questions and quotes, I get a reply days later to call in. So I called no answer and left a few voicemails, no call back. I love Laurel! She did such an amazing job. I found her on yelp and asked her to make a cake for my friend's bridal shower and she did not disappoint! I told her the theme and what colors I wanted and she made the cake perfect to fit the theme. And the cake was so delicious. We had a two tiered cake top layer was chocolate with a peanut butter filling (which I don't really care for peanut butter but oh my God was it good!) and the bottom layer was a neapolitin chocolate and vanilla with a strawberry filling. Lifesaver..... Thank you so much Laurel for making my daughters first birthday so memorable. I believe in the end I was a difficult client but my intention was not to be. We had a miss communication with the final order that I didn't find out about until I had arrive to pick up my cupcakes on Sunday. I felt horrible having to say something but there just wasn't enough of what I needed in the size I needed. It was a shock so my initial reaction was kinda blank. It wasn't the end of the world but I didn't' know what to do.. Long story short she totally when above and beyond making it better. She arrived at the party with more and then some. She did an amazing job and her team is easy to work with. I hired her to make individual elaborate cupcakes and in the end the elaborate decorations were the least of everyone's conversations. How freaking good the cake was, was the TRUE topic. Of course evey1 thought they were the cutes cupcakes they ever seen. But they came back for seconds and those who said no at first were convinced to try it because the Cake was "OH YUMMY".... Next time and every time if she wouldn't mind I will be ordering from her. Best wedding cake I've ever tasted! Oh Cake! made the wedding cake for our reception (11/2008). Laurel was wonderful to work with. We had a custom design in mind and she helped us make it even better than we'd hoped for. We had white cake with lemon, carrot cake with pineaple cream filling, and chocolate with chocolate truffle filling --- by the end of the reception all of the cake was gone. I got only the bite my husband and I fed each other -- but heard from everyone how much they loved the cake, especially the carrot cake layer. Laurel cakes look gorgeous, taste yum and are one of a kind. She is very creative and goes beyond what is needed to make the cake special and the occasion even more memorable. Highly recommended. Specifics: We got a Jake and Neverland Pirates cake for my daughter's birthday and it was a major hit at the party, both kids and adults adored it. Kids got to choose their favorite parts like island trees, seashells, gold coins :) Love how she made those pieces edible so we don't have to say no you can't eat that to any kid. We did not have a refrigeration option, and she was able to recommend an icing that would not need refrigeration. The chocolate flavor and texture of the cake was delicious. She was great at communicating the details, asking the kind of details we wanted on the cake, flavors etc. She called us to check if table space was going to be an issue or not, shared the picture once the cake was ready. When I went to pick it up, the cake looked even more beautiful in person. Her pricing is very reasonable for the amount of hard work that is required for the details cakes she makes. Tip: Given that she is one person baking all these wonderful cakes, she isn't as easy to get in touch with as a neighborhood shopkeeper might be. I would recommend calling in advance if you really want to go with her so that you are not disappointed if she calls back after you have already placed the order somewhere else. I did that for both my son's and daughter's birthday and have been a happy customer. Anyway, back to my review - back in March I went to Oh Cake! to get a cake baked & designed for a 3 woman birthday party. Me, My sister and my Mom wanted something very feminine and girly. Our theme was kind of 1920's - 1930's tea partyish w/ women adorning hair pieces/hats. She had envisioned an awesome design.. frills, lace & victorianish accents w/ over the top feminine flair.. I love the though. We received the cake on party day and it was everything I wanted for in a cake! On top of the cake she gave us a great deal on some chocolate covered strawberries at only $12 a dozen.. they were mouth watering and the first dessert to go on the platter! I definitely recommend Laurel at Oh Cake! She is very friendly and has a great eye for design. On top of that.. she is VERY reasonably priced. Laurel exceeded my expectations by 1000%! I had a tough theme - a Renaisance Wedding...I left the decision making up to her because I had faith in her abilities. may be her cakes are good- but her attitude is horrible and customer service does not exist at all I called her for my sons birthday cake. Her tone over the phone make me feel literally like a beggar. I brushed it off - and she started off with she is too busy but might be able to accomodate. She explained about her cakes - but she said she was too busy to meet me especially for a cake that I was going to order. (1/3rd or half sheet - she suggested the size depending on the guest list ) - She was "Generous" enough to offer to meet me on a week day during business hours and I told her I am working full time, asked her if she had any time outside 9 to 5 - Immediately she snapped me and told me coldly " Looks like this is not going to work. All I needed is "I am completely booked. Sorry I cannot help you. DONE" Why do you want to "accomodate" me when you are darn so busy ?? rant about your cakes and then just because my cake size is smaller and you dont want to meet me, you tell me its not going to work - I had spoke to "studio cakes" they told me they were busy - but did not make me feel like a beggar. To begin with, she really is hard to get a hold of. I called her a couple times and even left a message. When we did finally speak (2 weeks later) she asked me some brief questions and then emailed me back of estimates. I responded back stating my budget and tried to set up an appointment.
