I enjoy coffee from O'Henry's. The food is tasty too. The quiche is not my favorite though.

How have I not written a review for this location? Located right over the mountain in downtown Homewood, this is the best location I've visited. The employees are always so helpful and they offer more seating which is great when I just want to stop in and get some work done. Although I'm not a fan of coffee, they offer a chai tea latte that I'm VERY fond of. It's quite delicious! I also tend to grab some of the Vulcan Blend when I come in for my Airbnb guests and they LOVE it. This place is a great place to study. Almost all the tables are near outlets plus free WiFi that is actually pretty fast! There is a quiet upstairs area with plenty of tables with different sizes depending on how you need to spread out. I usually get hot chocolate of some kind and my boyfriend likes their coffee. I love that this little shop is so close to Brookwood Village. Although not inside the mall itself, it's just a few feet away when you're leaving Belk. The mall itself no longer has a coffee shop, so they have no problem attracting customers. I mostly see people studying or working on their computers here. I love the inside. It's spacious, and the table I was sitting at last time was actually a refurnished door! Super cute place especially around the holidays. Their outside patio is nice when the weather is too. O'Henry's is my favorite local coffee shop in Birmingham. The Brookwood location is in a prime area as it is right off of Lakeshore Drive and close to I-65, Columbiana Road/Greensprings Hwy, and Highway 280. The coffee shop is very cozy and eclectic. There are three booths and a few tables downstairs. My favorite spot, however, is the loft upstairs, which is generally more quiet and can be reserved for group meetings. I spent many of my days studying here while in law school at Cumberland and always make a point to stop by when I am visiting family and friends in Birmingham. My favorite is their A.P.B. smoothie and breakfast panini. I also love their various breads, cakes, and pastries -- you can't go wrong with their pumpkin bread. Insider tip: there is a secret book hidden amongst the gifts and gadgets where guests write notes and sign their names. If you have time, go on a hunt to find it and leave your mark. read more

The place is very pretty. Great decor, and nice ambient. Although, it is loud! Service, drinks and food are just OK. Nothing striking over there. It's a pity. This place could be a fantastic spot where to lounge and relax, but it turns to be a mediocre spot for the multitude of reasons. Coffee quality is ok. Pastries quality is ok. Sandwiches are not ok, very poor. Service is barely alright. None seems listening or caring so much about you. My gf literally had to repeat 5 "FIVE" times that our orders where "for here"! mah Our sandwich seated on the counter for 5 minutes before someone called our name for pick up. Great place to work and study. I do wish they had more food selections on Sunday afternoons, as that tends to be when people set up shop for a few hours. Would be nice to have something with substance to eat. I will say I was frustrated with their group reservations process. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication or what, but one group definitely got preferential treatment over another. In the spirit of not airing grievances, I'll save my larger group meetings for other locations and keep O'Henry's as my spot for working alone or meeting a friend. read more

With a quaint and "cutesy" vibe, this isn't really my type of coffee shop, but I have to admit they make a very good espresso drink here, and I found the environment conducive to getting work done. I don't love the fact that you have to deal with mall parking to come here, but that's not a huge impediment (at least the entrance is on the outside of the mall). read more

I absolutely love this place. Coffee is amazing and even their breakfast and lunch is good too. For breakfast I either get the breakfast panini or the breakfast bowl. Lunch I go with the chicken salad sandwich. It's a great place to go and get school work done or meeting someone for coffee. Only thing is it is normally pretty busy so finding a place to sit inside comes with luck. But if you can't find a seat inside there's always seats outside. read more

This is/was my favorite spot in the Ham, both for studying and meeting up with folks. The coffees are superb and the espresso drinks excellent. The baked goods could do with a make-over, but they aren't terrible by any standards. There aren't any couches or armchairs, but it is otherwise a really comfy place. Outlets are a bit difficult to come by when the place is busy and you may want to bring the extension if you have a Mac. However, it was easy for me to stay for hours here and take down multiple drinks. I wish I could find as sweet a spot in my new town. There's a bit of a Christian-bent aspect to the place, but it's subtle and non-intrusive if you have aversions/are sensitive to that sort of thing (which if you do, you may want to find a new town to live it). read more

Since, it's centrally located in between multiple "over the mountain" cities, it makes for a great meeting spot. Parking has never been an issue, unless it's Christmas Eve or Black Friday, because it shares a massive parking area with Brookwood mall. No matter the time of day, there always seems to be a crowd at this location. They've battled this by having ample indoor and outdoor seating. So long as the weather is good, you shouldn't have a problem finding a seat. Coffee and food wise, it's just fine. I have no complaints at all. My coffee and bagel have always been served quick and have never given me a reason to complain. read more

I love the Brookwood O'Henry's location. It is slightly bigger than the original one in Homewood. It is off the busy road and it is not too noisy. Their loft is a great place to escape and read, or study if you can get a seat. They have the friendliest staff by far. Was in on a Sunday afternoon and Russell and Adam were to two gentlemen working. There were a few people ahead of me and because they acknowledged my presence I was okay waiting a few minutes. I ordered a Cafe Mocha and it was wonderful. It took a minute or two to make, but I would rather that then be quick and a sub-par product. They have a good lunch as well. They are efficient and it is always fresh. I would like to see more of a variety of fruit, maybe add some grapes with the strawberries and pineapple, but it is always tasty. Their patio seating on a nice day can not be beat. It is a great place to sit and enjoy the day. read more

Updating my review of the Brookwood O'Henry's location due to continued frustrations -- - Preferred baked goods are often sold out by 7:30. Unacceptable. Solution: BAKE MORE! - Wait time in the line is often excessive. Need to take some tips from Starbucks in this regard, and hire more staff for the morning shift. - Wait time for food is too long. Again, hire more staff for the morning shift if that's what it takes. - Bagels are store-bought/from a bag. With as many inexpensive, local options as there are for bagels, why would you NOT go with a freshly baked local option. - It appears there's frequent staff turnover. Ultimately this seems to result in (again) longer wait times when ordering, and/or incorrect orders. read more

Of all the O'Henry's I've been too, this location is by far my favorite. From the ambience to the service, I've always had nothing, but a stellar experience here. My only little complaint is the lack of supplies and high demands, often time if you come in the evening almost all of the pastries are gone and they don't seem to replenish anymore, boo. However, the baristas are all super friendly and welcoming. This location is spacious with a staircase leading to a petite second floor as well as a large outdoor seating area. Their hours are also a lot more convenient compared to all of the other locations and competing cafes as well. A great place to grab a quick coffee, study, or sit down and enjoy an espresso with a pastry on a cold winter night. read more

A nice enough place. Good coffee and food. The only negatives about O'Henrys appears to be their ordering counter setup, at least this morning. They can only take one order at time. If you are getting coffee, while it is served to customers within a minute or two, most customers stood at the register awaiting their beverage. This tended to back the ordering line up quite a bit and multiple times. I would suggest the order taker ask people to please step over to the "serving" counter to await their beverages or their food. Also, I never saw anyone come out to clean a table nor chairs. The folks behind the counter chose to stand there talking the full 5-10 minutes which no one was at the ordering counter. No wonder I had to use a napkin to wipe my table off before I sat down to eat. read more

I was working over by the Brookwood location so I decided to stop in for a coffee and maybe a small snack. I was surprised to find that they have a fairly substantial food menu. I got the Route 66 salad and it was big, fresh and tasty. The coffee was great as usual, and the staff was very nice. This place has much more "mom and pop" décor and feel than a Starbucks, but it still manages Starbucks-like prices. A pretty good combo if you ask me! read more

Whether you're hanging out with friends or meeting a client, this location is prime for people to get together -- especially for those, like me, who are the worst parallel parkers in history. Welcome to a coffee shop with a parking lot, and even parking decks, if you don't mind a short walk! And while O'Henry's has never really struck me as a great place to study (because when I've been in it's usually a bit crowded and there can be the loud-talkers) I do know several people who go there to study too and don't seem to mind. There are lots of specialty coffee drinks to choose from as well, but I usually just have black coffee and enjoy the roasted blends that O'Henry's provides, and I've always enjoyed it! read more

I recently visited Continental Bakery in Mountain Brook after reading great reviews and hearing about the fresh bread. The croissants were amazing but the service and coffee - atrocious.
