Since it was my friend's first time visiting Kyuramen, we ordered a variety of dishes to give them a good introduction to the menu. Naturally, we had to try the restaurant's signature omurice. We ordered it with tonkatsu and sampled both the curry and demi-glace sauces. The omelet itself was perfectly cooked, with a silky, soft texture, and the rice was incredibly buttery. However, I thought the rice could have used a bit more seasoning, as it lacked flavor on its own. Between the two sauces, the demi-glace was the clear winner. Its rich, savory flavor balanced the creaminess of the egg and rice beautifully, while the curry tasted flat and reminded me too much of an instant curry cube. We also ordered the Kyushu Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. While it was a decent bowl of ramen, it did not particularly stand out, and I was disappointed that it had almost no heat despite ordering the hottest spice level. The broth was enjoyable but lacked the bold spice I was expecting. Finally, we tried the popcorn chicken. It was good, but not among the best I've had. The breading was noticeably heavier than I prefer, and I wish the restaurant had been more generous with the fried basil, which usually adds a lot of fragrance and flavor. In fact, I think several local boba cafés, such as Teahouse, serve a better version. Overall, I walked away feeling disappointed. For the prices they charge, I expected dishes with more flavor and better execution.
