Oishi (Japanese word) translates to tasty or delicious in English. Unfortunately, the sushi I had here wasn't that good... I've had a lot of raw fish in my life and this just doesn't compare. I had a sushi craving on a Friday night, so I decided to try out a new spot. What drew me in was their all day roll special. You can either get any 2 rolls for $10.50 or any 3 for $14.50 with a choice of complimentary miso soup, salad, or Spring water. You can only choose from classic rolls, not the specialty ones. I called to place a pick-up order for the 3 Roll Special. It was ready within 10 minutes, which is more than reasonable. My problem with this sushi is that it lacked flavor. Did they even marinate the rice?! Was the fish fresh? Probably not... I typically avoid rolls that go overboard with sauces because I like to TASTE THE FISH AND RICE. I don't even use soy sauce. In this case, I WISHED there were sauce(s) on it so I could actually taste something... My order: *Shrimp Tempura - Why was there lettuce in this roll? Very odd. The tempura batter was crispy and flaky, so I'll give them that. But the shrimp itself wasn't tender or juicy. They really needed to throw some eel sauce on this. *Spicy Salmon - One of the most tasteless spicy salmon I've had. There was absolutely no spice factor. The salmon was mushy and had no flavor. I didn't like that they put avocado in it either... *Philadelphia Roll - This was the best one out of the three. The salmon was smoky and paired well with the cream cheese. A below average meal. But there are some pros. The service was friendly and quick. From standing outside of the restaurant, I didn't expect much in terms of ambiance. There's 4-5 parking spots next to it, as well as street parking nearby. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised at how bright, clean, and modern it was. There's booth seating that wraps around the entire interior, tables in the center, and a sushi bar. I'm really big on first impressions, so I'm not sure if I'd return to try again.

We were advised to seat ourselves at an empty table, but unfortunately, another party that came in after us was served first, which set the tone for a slightly disorganized experience. My partner and friend ordered the teriyaki dinner boxes, and we shared a few rolls. I had a cool tea and my partner got a Diet Coke. The food overall was fine, but nothing stood out in terms of flavor. The teriyaki beef, in particular, was a big letdown--tough and lacking in taste. I'm not completely opposed to coming back, but it's not at the top of my list. There's potential here, but the experience left a lot to be desired.

I have ordered here in the past and found it to be the best sushi around so naturally I ordered from here. I went for a house special and a mango madness roll however when it was delivered, the mango madness was not what I ordered. I didn't care for it and I let them know and they were kind to credit me for that roll. I will just chalk it up to an off day in the kitchen.

The sushi is very delicious and fresh. Don't skip out on the white tuna truffle appetizer, the flavor bomb in your mouth will thank you! The menu is pretty standard with a few additional specialty items that you don't find at every Japanese restaurant including toro sushi, one of my all time favorites. The service is wonderful. We were taken care of by two very nice servers who maintained our green tea refills and kept our table clean. A solid option for Japanese and sushi in the area. They also offer a great lunch special which extends to 4pm during the week. I have been here several times and would keep returning. Thank you

Came here to pick up some takeout, very efficient with the order, they had a nice lunch set for chicken teriyaki (You can actually choose between chicken, salmon and other main teriyaki types) , in a bento box with a couple pieces of shumai dumplings, veggies, rice and a small six piece roll of your choice, we had the eel avocado which was quite nice. Miso soup or salad, the soup was very good and not too salty. I also tried the Tokyo Chicken which is a semi fried chicken without a heavy coating of batter, was ok, probably better when it's fresh and hot. For $12, definitely a good deal and will be back for lunch soon!

I was searching Yelp for the best fried rice nearby and stumbled upon Oishi Sushi, easily one of the best decisions I've made. I ordered their vegetable fried rice and was absolutely blown away. It was so flavorful and perfectly cooked that it didn't even need a protein to pair with it. I swear I ordered three in one day, came back the next day for two more, and then again the day after . Talk about obsessed!!! I also tried their sweet potato sushi, which was just as great fresh, delicious, and well prepared. Everything about this place exceeded my expectations. On top of the amazing food, the restaurant itself is cute and very clean, making the dining experience even better. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming, which just adds to the charm of this spot. If you're a fried rice lover like me, do yourself a favor and check out Oishi Sushi. First time to order here and I got my lunch for take out. Much better than I expected. Very reasonable price and fish is fresh. We've dined in and ordeeed delivery from this restaurant before. It was alway more positive, u til yesterday when we ordered delivery last night via Uber Eats. Perhaps there is anew management or change of chef?!! We are bummed about the quality of the food recieved yesterday. We ordered three special rolls- all had cooked protein and with with no crunch factor despite having panko and tempura ingredients. Unfortunately the rolls tasted like ingredients were pre-fried ingredients or even pre-rolled ahead of time. Spider roll was soggy, barely any soft shell crab fillings. Dancing eel roll was mushy with soggy and overcooked rice. The Sweet Heart Roll is supposed to have lobster, but somehow it tasted like shrimp. Lastly, my salmon teriyaki bento box ended up being teriyaki shrimp, NOT what we ordered. We also paid extra for brown rice but recieved white rice. We won't be reordering anytime soon. read more

This is my go to place for several reasons. Their food is of high quality,expertly prepared and presented. Since I usually go for lunch I'm happy to say that their service is quick and on point. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was excellent. But most importantly, food was excellent. My fiancee and I get the same rolls at every restaurant (he gets a salmon roll, crab roll, and shrimp roll; I get an avocado roll and sweet potato roll). The quality of the sushi was wonderful and fresh. Not a lot of rice (which is a good thing) on the rolls as well. Plus, the price is affordable compared to other sushi places. Definitely recommend. read more

This is a go to delivery spot for my family! The rolls and specialty rolls are delish and taste fresh. Their main courses are great as well and come with a decent amount of food. They are a little pricey but it is usually worth it. The only items I've ever really been less than satisfied with were tofu based. I have never been in person so this review is purely based on our delivery experiences. read more

This is an affordable sushi place in the area. I got the spicy tuna and shrimp tempura. The spicy tuna was great, the shrimp tempura was soggy and had a weird texture. The soy sauce also was not closed properly so it spilled all over the bag. read more

I've only ordered delivery from this place twice, never actually been to the restaurant. Both times, orders have arrived quickly and with a free appetizer that resembled a mini quesadilla which I've come to learn is a blue crab fajita. It's fine, kinda mushy. Sushi fulfilled our cravings. Some rolls were skimpy with rice which I actually don't mind. Much prefer less rice than a ton of rice that out balances the actual filling. We ordered the Any 3 Roll combos and the Roll Combos which are decently priced for three rolls - some regular, some special - and a salad/soup. My only gripe would be the salad- the lettuce pieces were huge! Maybe give those pieces a cut or two. read more

I wasn't blown away but it wasn't bad either. The lunch deals are solid price wise. The blue crab fajita wasn't anything to get ecstatic over but the sauces were tasty. The fish was fresh. We had the salmon avocado, eel and yellowtail scallion rolls. We also tried both the chicken and fish katsu, which were good. For the prices, will likely order from them again. read more

Okay people listen up. This review is two months in the making. During COVID my family and I have been on serious quarantine. We were not even eating out, until the need arose (random Friday night). We ordered a bunch of items from the menu and hoped for the best. Not only did the order arrive quickly, it was fresh, tasty, and the driver was very friendly. Did I mention they gave us several additional items on the house that sent our tastebuds on a rollercoaster of gratitude? Strap in folks! My sister and brother-in-law ordered chicken teriyaki bento boxes which I will not review because I didn't eat them. They seemed to like it, however, since they left no trace of even rice in the container. I had the sushi and the salmon bento box. I admit I wasn't a fan of the bento box and that is only because I realize I just want sushi which was delicious! It was fresh and the spicy mayo I asked for was the icing on the cake! We have since ordered several times, my family orders their sushi and bento boxes I just order extra sushi which works out perfect for me! I gave a five star review, although I wasn't a fan of the bento box, because we always won't love what we order but a quick delivery, friendly staff, and nice gestures for your customers is exactly how you earn that extra star. (And having other delicious items on your menu ;) ) Kudos to the chef and staff. Keep up the great work! read more

Oishi is a good sushi restaurant in the Hackensack area to fulfill your sushi cravings. I've ordered from Oishi a few times during quarantine. I haven't had any issues and they prepare your order very quickly. The rolls are okay but appear to be a bit smaller for the price and compared to other places. I would recommend opting for the sushi or sashimi options. The sashimi is cut pretty thick and it seems fresh. I've really enjoyed the sashimi and sushi options I've ordered from here. On my last order, Oishi gave me a free crab quesadilla appetizer. Think "soft crab rangoon." Delicious! These are dangerous. I could probably eat these all day. read more

I was in the mood for Japanese food and found this spot. I called in my order with a very nice lady. I ordered the shrimp lunch box. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and my food was ready. I paid and left. When I dug in I noticed the shrimp wasn't cleaned too well. The taste was ok. Nothing too special. read more

This is a tiny little place my husband and I decided to try randomly. I had the beef negimaki dinner box with veggie gyoza and it was delish the beef was fresh and flavorful the gyoza was the best I've had to date. My husband ordered the demon roll he said it was fresh and one of the best specialty rolls he'd had in a while. For the drink I got a yuzu sweet tea and I would totally recommend. Horrible Experience! Took my 91 yr old mom here for an early dinner Valentine's Day '25 and the vibe was completely off from the moment we walked in! Without even a proper greeting they attempted to seat us right in front of a drafty entryway in a virtually empty restaurant. The sever was not friendly to us at all! I tried to be patient so we asked to start with a cup of hot tea. After abruptly placing a mug of hot water in front of us she never came back with tea bags. Still tried patience! With our cups of now warm water and waiting to place an order no one attended to us. After witnessing a couple delivery orders get attended to and watching a walk in place an order while we sat there with our now cold water I figured they did not want us there. I politely got up and put my coat on and leave. No one asked why and I could hear the server quickly put the table back in place and someone giggled. Rude! But all ends well because we walked right across the street to Villa de Columbia where we were received very warmly with an attentive server that showed a respect for the elderly! I couldn't see how to reply to owner but it was approximately 5:10pm read more

Tried this place and I was blown away by the quality of the food. Everything I ordered was perfect and delicious... Can't believe I haven't ordered from this place, I will not be going back to Englewood for sushi when we have this gem right here in Hackensack. I wish I had taken "before" photos. The food was absolutely amazing! We had spicy salmon rolls, spicy tuna rolls, paradise roll, and 'rock n roll' roll. Quality has gone down since the last time we visited. Ordered for pick-up when our regular go-to spot in the area wasn't taking orders on a Saturday evening (because they were too busy!). We just did some basic rolls - I had the three roll special (yellowtail with scallion, white tuna avocado, salmon skin roll) and my husband also had the special (alaska, eel avocado, spicy salmon roll). They didn't taste great. It wasn't spoiled or anything, but something just tasted off about it. We also ordered the spicy tuna gyoza as an appetizer, but I'm pretty sure it was just pork gyoza. This review is based on lunch special and service. Walked in without much expectation for a quick bite to be pleasantly surprised. Didn't take long for this little location to fill up by the local office workers. Place is like a small hole in the wall but, service was great and lunch sushi rolls were fresh and delicious! They didn't come all at once so I assume they bring them out as they finish getting grilled. The chicken heart was some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if it's the way it was sliced, the seasoning, or just everything about it but I wish we ordered more. The tail skewer was another standout. My wife and I decided to try them by ordering out, we were extremely impressed by the freshness and quality of the food (considering it was delivery). Good deals and good sushi! I'm a vegetarian and the veggie rolls are pretty good and I usually get the 3 rolls with soup or salad and very satisfied. read more
