Oishi (Japanese word) translates to tasty or delicious in English. Unfortunately, the sushi I had here wasn't that good... I've had a lot of raw fish in my life and this just doesn't compare. I had a sushi craving on a Friday night, so I decided to try out a new spot. What drew me in was their all day roll special. You can either get any 2 rolls for $10.50 or any 3 for $14.50 with a choice of complimentary miso soup, salad, or Spring water. You can only choose from classic rolls, not the specialty ones. I called to place a pick-up order for the 3 Roll Special. It was ready within 10 minutes, which is more than reasonable. My problem with this sushi is that it lacked flavor. Did they even marinate the rice?! Was the fish fresh? Probably not... I typically avoid rolls that go overboard with sauces because I like to TASTE THE FISH AND RICE. I don't even use soy sauce. In this case, I WISHED there were sauce(s) on it so I could actually taste something... My order: *Shrimp Tempura - Why was there lettuce in this roll? Very odd. The tempura batter was crispy and flaky, so I'll give them that. But the shrimp itself wasn't tender or juicy. They really needed to throw some eel sauce on this. *Spicy Salmon - One of the most tasteless spicy salmon I've had. There was absolutely no spice factor. The salmon was mushy and had no flavor. I didn't like that they put avocado in it either... *Philadelphia Roll - This was the best one out of the three. The salmon was smoky and paired well with the cream cheese. A below average meal. But there are some pros. The service was friendly and quick. From standing outside of the restaurant, I didn't expect much in terms of ambiance. There's 4-5 parking spots next to it, as well as street parking nearby. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised at how bright, clean, and modern it was. There's booth seating that wraps around the entire interior, tables in the center, and a sushi bar. I'm really big on first impressions, so I'm not sure if I'd return to try again.

We were advised to seat ourselves at an empty table, but unfortunately, another party that came in after us was served first, which set the tone for a slightly disorganized experience. My partner and friend ordered the teriyaki dinner boxes, and we shared a few rolls. I had a cool tea and my partner got a Diet Coke. The food overall was fine, but nothing stood out in terms of flavor. The teriyaki beef, in particular, was a big letdown--tough and lacking in taste. I'm not completely opposed to coming back, but it's not at the top of my list. There's potential here, but the experience left a lot to be desired.

I have ordered here in the past and found it to be the best sushi around so naturally I ordered from here. I went for a house special and a mango madness roll however when it was delivered, the mango madness was not what I ordered. I didn't care for it and I let them know and they were kind to credit me for that roll. I will just chalk it up to an off day in the kitchen.

The sushi is very delicious and fresh. Don't skip out on the white tuna truffle appetizer, the flavor bomb in your mouth will thank you! The menu is pretty standard with a few additional specialty items that you don't find at every Japanese restaurant including toro sushi, one of my all time favorites. The service is wonderful. We were taken care of by two very nice servers who maintained our green tea refills and kept our table clean. A solid option for Japanese and sushi in the area. They also offer a great lunch special which extends to 4pm during the week. I have been here several times and would keep returning. Thank you

Came here to pick up some takeout, very efficient with the order, they had a nice lunch set for chicken teriyaki (You can actually choose between chicken, salmon and other main teriyaki types) , in a bento box with a couple pieces of shumai dumplings, veggies, rice and a small six piece roll of your choice, we had the eel avocado which was quite nice. Miso soup or salad, the soup was very good and not too salty. I also tried the Tokyo Chicken which is a semi fried chicken without a heavy coating of batter, was ok, probably better when it's fresh and hot. For $12, definitely a good deal and will be back for lunch soon!

Been to Oishi pre-covid as well as now. People who run the place are sweet and always in good spirits when I come. Space inside is small but enough, no outdoor seating so only takeout. Lots of items on the menu, but I pretty much keep it basic. read more

This place like most, after Covid, is very inconsistent. Their sushi is not good like it was. It's merely ok. The beef teriyaki was overcooked. I asked for medium rare. I'm tired of wasting time in mediocre restaurants. I'm a long time customer. This started last year. Sushi orders are smaller and smaller. They don't care at all. Apparently they have many customers. There's a new place in Fort Lee that's excellent, and Yukihana has better cooked food. Likely not coming back. read more

This place is neither amazing NOR bad. I would say they get 4 stars mainly because of their pricing. I ordered from this place twice and got the 3 rolls for 12$. That's a good deal because its comes with a decent sized miso soup as well. Ordered from this place twice via Grubhub and the first time was a bad experience. The delivery man came and had trouble with the door because he couldn't figure out how to work a doorbell and when he approached me he gave me attitude unnecessarily because he was literally out there for two seconds as I went downstairs to open the door for him as he called me once again because he couldn't figure out how to work a doorbell. I definitely called the restaurant to complain about him and thankfully the second time I ordered a different delivery man came it was much more hospitable and nicer. This review couldn't go written without a review of the first delivery driver he was rude and when I asked him what he said he scared away from me but I had to call the restaurant to complain about his attitude regardless. When it comes to the sushi quality it's not bad nor amazing it's just average sushi and pretty mediocre. I do enjoy the combos that they give along with miso soup. read more

Lunch deal was a fair price and was made quickly after online ordering. Sushi tasted very fresh and was a refreshing quick sushi lunch on the go. Pick up was a bit confusing as it was just placed near the front door, I simply grabbed it and left since nobody was nearby. read more

Excellent sushi. The restaurant is VERY small, so be mindful of that. I guess it is more of a takeout than a dine-in restaurant. We started out with a salad which was crisp and had the usual japanese dressing on it. Sushi rolls were fresh. Presentation was ok, nothing outstanding. Service was attentive. Overall, a pretty decent place for some good sushi. read more

Ordered the American Dream and the Angry Dragon roll as I am a huge fan of Shrimp Tempura, but the best thing had to be the free 'Shrimp Fajita' sample. Really delicious. They gave us plenty of extra spicy Mayo and eel sauce as well. Ordered off of Uber eats and it was ready for pick up in less than 10 minutes. Good food. Great customer experience. read more

I always loved the sushi here, so very fresh and priced well but.... I just ordered when we heard a clicking sound in the sushi rolling station. When we looked over the gentleman roller was clipping his nails over the counter. When he took the order he swiped the clippings away. Yuck!!!! read more

Oishi sushi is highly rated on Yelp so I went for it. It is more of a takeout spot than dine in but we ate in. They have a good deal for lunch where you can get 2 rolls $10 or 3 rolls $14 with soup or salad. I will take that any day and it is a pretty standard lunch deal at sushi spots. Nothing fancy about the decor here but the food was solid and it was at a good price. The shumai dumplings also were solid. The pork gyoza are also a nice addition to the meal. The sushi comes out fast and I enjoyed it. Im not the biggest sushi fan but this one was solid. read more

Food is just awesome here. Everything so fresh and the jalapeno with your sushi is just something else al together. Tried the lemongrass soup which is superbly delicious and perfect for a nice winter night. Miso soup was so light and flavorful. Mango madness is the perfect amount of spice n sweet. We tried the age tofu and salmon tartare for appetizers and they were just ok. Age tofu I wouldn't buy again. Great experience and no wait on a Saturday night but we got lucky too. read more

The atmosphere is amazing, food is incredible, beautiful inside and our server was so sweet, and quick. We came in for the lunch special, and both got chicken teriyaki boxes that came with dumplings, one full roll of our choice, soup or salad and it was DELISH. Perfectly portioned, and only $12. I order from Oishi once a week, whether it's lunch for the office or at home. When I say they are fast, I mean FAST. It's like within minutes they're at your door. The fish is always fresh, I've never had a bad dish from the various sushi and kitchen appetizers and entrees we've gotten. I've only picked up in the restaurant once or twice, but when I did was immediately greeted by a very friendly staff member. It wasn't completely packed inside, but was certainly welcoming and tidy. One time, I ordered some hot and cold items and only received the hot items (assuming they were bagged separately.) I cut my loses and gave up on the rest of the order, only for the friendliest gentleman to come to my door about an hour later with the remainder of my order. That's outstanding! For a fairly new place, this sushi joint is running smoothly. The owner used to own another Japanese place in the Bronx and his experience is definitely shining through. The restaurant is small with 4 four seater tables and one 2 seater table. Also, everyone does the AYCE (best value compared to a la carte) which means long dinners and slow turnovers. This was not a problem on a quiet Monday night but I can see a long wait for a Fri or Sat night. AYCE ($21.99 pp) is based off the a la carte menu and you order with a server who encourages you to order in small batches. Best game plan is to start with a miso and the tuna avocado salad then work through a platter of sashimi and end with a roll or two. For an AYCE, I found the sashimi very fresh minus the octopus which was hard and frozen. The rolls also done right with more fish than rice. No green tea ice cream here tho :( It's BYOB so bring the sake! read more

I've been ordering from them since 2015. Rarely am I disappointed with the quality or delivery. The lady who answers the phone is sooooo sweet. She memorized my order since I always order the same thing. She just asks, "The usual?" She now knows me my voice ! LOL! One time there was an error with my order.. I called to let her know and she offered to correct it,but I declined, so when I ordered next time, she offered to give me an order of edamames on the house. Ive never dined there in person, but I would love to meet her! Food is fresh and I find the quality to be consistent, which is very important. They are such a welcome addition to Hackensack, and I hope they will be around for a long time! read more

I ordered take out from here through Grub Hub via the Yelp app, and glad I did. I'm in town on business, and really don't feel like dining alone or eating at the sorry "Bistro" located at the hotel, so I looked to Yelp! Great sushi at a really great price. I ordered two rolls and an order of the shrimp dumplings. The order arrived early and was super fresh. I was able to dine in the comfort of my hotel room on some really good sushi. I will definitely order from here again the next time I'm in town. read more

Came here for dinner with some friends and had a good experience. You cannot beat the deals. You can get 2 rolls for $10 or 3 rolls for $14. I started by getting 2 and then upgraded to 3 while I was eating them. The sushi was fresh. The girl server was super helpful and attentive always refilling our water. BYOB. The electricity did go out twice while we were there and they apologized constantly. It didn't really effect us. They gave us a whole plate of watermelon to finish our meal. THey also comped my friend's gyoza - I think b/c they forgot to bring it out as an app, but we didn't even complain and they still comped it. Its those little things that make me like this place. It is very small and not much to it, but I did enjoy it! VERY AFFORDABLE read more

Ordered from here for the first time and I'm glad I gave it a try. I had some sushi rolls and a fish katsu dinner box. All the ingredients were fresh and the food was delicious. The katsu dinner box has a lot of food in it. I made a change to the type of sushi in the dinner box and was happy to see they followed all my requests that I made while placing the order online without having to call me. I also got tamago, but I've had better and that is one thing from my order that I would not recommend. Delivery was great, but I did order an hour ahead and even though Im only 6 minutes away, it took a full hour for the food to be delivered. I order from here often because the food is really good and prices are cheap but I've never received the food on time. This time, I received a notification saying that the food was ready for pickup. I went and they said it would be another 15 minutes. 30 minutes later, I was still waiting for my food. The food overall is good but the service needs to improve. read more

Decent sushi for NJ...small place so don't come here with a large group of people Food: ordered the chirashi sushi...the assortment of sushi that you get isn't high quality fish that I get at the place I go to in Fort Lee...standard...tuna, salmon, yellow tail...and fake crab stick!!! The rice was definitely not high quality Japanese or cooked right...didn't have the texture or flavor you would expect from a sushi restaurant....Tokyo sushi chefs would be disappointed Quality of fish that it did come with was good with the exception of the fake crab stick! read more

Not terrible, but not great either. Especially not great for $19. Not my first choice for ramen. Is it the most bang for your buck? Certainly not. But I did enjoy my meal and in the end, that's what matters.

On top of that, the pricing is steep for the suburbs -- $5-$8 per skewer adds up really quickly, and it just didn't feel worth it given the atmosphere and service. All the yakitori was decent but nothing mind blowing, smaller servings and overly salty. To make matters worse, the tap water was awful -- honestly undrinkable. Look at my picture I'm shocked they thought this was acceptable to bring to our table. The food itself may be authentic, but everything else about the experience dragged it down. Unfortunately, not somewhere I'd come back to.

So happy to find a good sushi place in Hackensack ! My wife and I decided to try them by ordering out, we were extremely impressed by the freshness and quality of the food (considering it was delivery). Our favorite has to be the yellow tail jalapeno app, so light yet tasty. We ended up going into the restaurant itself and we had a pleasant experience.
