Coming from a NYC background, I know I'm speaking as an outsider, here... but I don't see the appeal in mushy, multiple-fried, cheese-laden carbohydrate insanity. My husband enthusiastically took me here a couple of times (he loves the chile relleno), and I tried to hang in there with a good attitude... but it was our last visit that proved the mutual clincher. We were there with a couple of friends, and decided to go a little lighter on the food (if that's possible with this cuisine). Chicken tortilla soup seemed to fit the bill - a difficult one to screw up. Well... not ten minutes into the bowls, both of us - almost simultaneously - were struck with serious diarrhea. I mean nearly having to jog to the bathroom. Making a "run for the border" never rang so true. The crazy thing? The soup actually tasted fine - the only dish I've had at Ojeda's that satisfied! A shame that my stomach wasn't as pleased as were my taste buds... We haven't been back since. I've heard that the Oak Cliff location is cleaner/more reliable, but to be honest, I'm not terribly interested. There are far better Tex-Mex options in town. read more

This place replaced my previous favorite Tex-Mex place in Dallas now when I'm in the hospital this is the food I ask well wishing visitors to bring. I could drink their salsa I would get massive heart burn (spice and me not good friends) but I would do it with no regrets. I love the enchilada I've heard the enchilada sauce is good by my go to is cheese enchiladas with cheese sauce on top no enchilada sauce maybe one of these days I'll get a two enchilada plate and try keeping the sauce on one of them. Located in the shithole that is Maple Avenue, the tall iron gates that surround the restaurant and the armed security outside belie the quaint and friendly atmosphere inside. In my opinion, Tex-Mex is generally the same, so there's not much to say in that regard. The usual fare: tacos, burritos and enchiladas, all taste very good and are prepared quickly. The fajitas are also very good. Caveat: the salsa jars at the table generally contain their spicy salsa. I personally like it but it can take a non-spice eater by surprise. The prices were good, but does "Tex-Mex" just mean slightly Americanized Mexican food with not-so-fresh ingredients? My chile relleno was not a poblano chile, but rather a so-called banana chile. I definitely prefer a shorter, fatter poblano to a longer, thinner banana. The chile relleno was heavily breaded and greasy. I also had a sour cream enchilada, which was slightly better than one might expect at an American chain restaurant. I usually wolf down chips before a meal. The chips here were thin, very very slightly rubbery, and completely flavorless. Like I said, the prices are hard to beat and my $6.50 large margarita sated me, to certain extent. There are also some funky stories about how the grandmother who owned the chained was gunned down on the street, possibly by the Mexican mafia. How exciting! Definitely a fan. So much so the employees probably talk about us because we come so frequently :-) If you're considering trying ojedas, just keep in mind it's definitely tex-mex. Nothing more, nothing less. The service here is always stellar, the food is consistent, and margaritas are really good. Oh, and it's very fairly priced. If you're in a rush, come here. Located this place as it was close to my hotel. The neighborhood is a little "iffy", however this place has a fenced parking lot & a security guard watching your car. Inside it is decorated with bright lights hanging from the ceiling. The service here is amazing! Very friendly and fast! I ordered a spicy margarita which was outstanding. Spicy, but not over powering. Nice. The tortilla soup was ok. It is a broth style and I like the creamy style. However, the brisket tacos were great. Meaty, large portions and filling. read more

This place is less than a mile from my apartment and I'd heard good things, so I was optimistic. I ordered over the phone and picked it up to eat at home. Over the phone and in person, the staff was very friendly and professional. We got a ton of food for only $30. We ordered 2 meals, an order of stuffed jalapeños and 2 sopapillas. Unfortunately, with each food that I tasted, I became more disappointed. To me, the jalapeños looked and tasted like frozen food that I could have picked up at Sam's. The sopapillas were a little dense. My enchiladas were smothered in a very Velveeta-like cheese. Nothing was repulsive and I ate enough to be full, but didn't keep my leftovers. I've spent most of my life in Houston and Austin. Maybe this is just one of those regional things that's more different than I expected it to be? At any rate, they were friendly, it was cheap and they're close, so I'm sure I'll be back. I just wouldn't go out of my way to recommend them to anyone. read more

If you're looking for a place to eat Tex-Mex, this is the place. If you are looking for Mexican food, go elsewhere. I'm not a fan of tex-mex and over the years I have had it due to choices others make for dinner plans, and any other place is better than Ojeda's. Our family stopped in as we were stuck in traffic, and decided to give this place a try. My father, had tried the one in Desoto and liked it. Service was wonderful. However, the food is very bland, and lacks seasoning. The rice was awful. The Guiso lacked flavor, and overly seasoned with cumin. The tortillas are STORE BOUGHT!! The ribeye fajitas were very tender, however, lacked seasoning. The prices did not reflect the quality of the food. Loved the music playing in the background. The decor was nice as well. Been going to Ojeda's for many years and it is still a consistent treat. Love that you pour your own salsa from the pitchers on the table amd my all time fall back favorite is the Puffed Taco Dinner. Great! Prices are quite reasonable, service always quick and efficient and they have the best pralines in Dallas. Definitely recommended. read more

I was rather impressed with the quality of service at Ojeda's. Our party of 15 called ahead to reserve a spot during lunch hour 10 minutes prior to arrival and they had the table waiting for us. The decor is unlike anything I've ever seen. Multi-colored Christmas lights were utilized for lighting in the dimly lit room. For it's location, Ojeda's has adequate parking spaces with a back lot for overflow. My only complaint is that two of us requested an item on the kid's menu and were refused. I understand this is company policy, but it was kind of a bummer because as a college student money talks. read more

Ojeda's is a cozy and simple Tex-Mex restaurant. They have a good variety of foods on their menu, but nothing really stands out and grabs you off the menu. I like their options of getting a half or full order on a lot of things, though. I got a full bean burrito and it didn't come out as a bloated tortilla stuffed with beans. It was split up into three normal sized tortillas with refried beans and a side salad. This was great for portion control and kept me from getting beans all over myself, haha. That being said, this was a very no frills burrito - tortilla + refried bean paste. The salad was lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheddar cheese. So not my favorite meal. However, they DO have some great drinks that really pack a punch. I had a swirled sangria margarita, and it went a long way, let me tell you. You can order a large or small sized drink, just like their plates. They have a rule on their menus that won't allow you to order more than three large drinks with a meal or more than one large drink without a meal so that speaks to the amount of alcohol they put in these. I'd definitely recommend this place for happy hour, but maybe save the dinner for somewhere else. read more

Heard great things about this place. Came here got a puffed taco with I joke not, about a tablespoon of meat inside. Was so freaking hungry that I ate the small amount of rice and beans that came with the taco. I begun to think they gave me a child's meal. Ate chips and the salsa on the table. Salsa seemed strangely tangy, I should have questioned it's freshness since I had no idea how long it might have been sitting out. I absolutely love Mexican food and tried Ojeda's for the first time last week. The queso and chips are great but the salsa here is a wee too vinegary. I had the enchilada de fajita verdes. It was okay but next time I think I'll try something without the spinach. The menu at this place is huge. There's so much to choose from it makes you want to return. Another Texmex staple in Dallas. This is not one of my favorite places to go but it's fine every once in a while. You can get the enchilada special on Wednesday for under $6. The chips are really thin and the salsa is kind of sweet. The refried beans are good though. Tortillas taste homemade and are served nice and hot. Service has always been pleasant. read more

On my visit to dallas I was brought here in recommendation of my cousin, in glad we stopped into this little spot. I ordered a cup of coffee which tasted freshly brewed and nice and hot. I was in the mood for brunch and they had a good selection. I decided to go with huevos rancheros with carne asada. It was such a delicious choice, my cousin also decided to give it a try. He did mention he had been here quite a few times and had never ordered it. But i must say we're both glad we did. The meat itself was nice and tender and the eggs were really good as well. Everything blended so well together that at the end of the meal we were so glad we did. The service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive at all times and made it known that he was there for our needs. I will definitely be back to this place when I am in dallas. read more

Solid 3.5 star rating: The good: their salsa is delicious, as was the mole sauce. Truly one of the best I have ever had. Rich, flavorful and with a creamy consistency. The beans were good, too. The bad: the rice was typical for most Mexican restaurants. Bland, dry, kinda crunchy and boring. The chicken in the mole dish was teeeeeny. i don't know where they found such a small chicken. Maybe it was a quail in disguise. Nachos were just a few chips with cheddar over them. That's it for $6.00! The ugly (more odd, actually): our waitress (no, nothing to do with her looks. get your mind out of the gutter!) refilled one glass per visit to our table, which wasn't very often. weird! The place is HUGE! i can easily imagine being forgotten here, when it gets busy. Still, I think it's worth a visit for delicious sauces and great salsa (in a pitcher at the table, so you can refill as you like), though i would recommend the mole enchiladas over the mole plate, as I think you'll get more food for your $9.50.
