The service at this Japanese Cafe was amazing and they were very sweet and catering. As someone who isn't the biggest fan of curry I thoroughly enjoyed the Curry here! The food is very delicious and tasteful. The loaded fries were amazing was well! I will be back. I love the setting in this place as well. It's very cute inside
Such a cute cafe in Richardson! I wanted a place to sit and do work with both snack and drink options, and Okaeri Cafe delivered. I didn't want anything too filling so opted for the chicken karaage, which was overpriced for what it was ($9 for 5 pieces). The texture was also a little off, it looks like they used a wet batter as opposed to tossing it in dry starch as it is classically done. It was still relatively crispy and tasted fine with kewpie, lemon, and togarashi but lacking the signature texture of karaage. The hojicha strawberry latte was a great balance of umami and sweet. If you haven't tried hojicha but love matcha, definitely give it a go! It's like matcha's nuttier cousin. Definitely mix it well before drinking! All the tables were full on a Sunday afternoon, so I opted to sit in one of the wooden cubbies with floor cushions. I love sitting cross legged and taking my shoes off when I study lol so this was perfect for me! But something to keep in mind if you're trying to spend longer here.
First time trying Japanese curry here and it was definitely a fun experience. My brother, who has actually had curry in Japan, said it is really close to authentic. I can see how it is an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it. We ordered a good mix of things. The loaded fries were AMAZING. The portion was big and they were so good that we ate them so fast I forgot to take a picture. I had the tonkatsu curry, and the tonkatsu was perfectly crispy with great flavor. We also tried the omurice, which was flavorful, and the gyudon, which was tasty but very heavy on the onions. The only thing I did not love was that they ask questions like "Did you want the egg on it?" which makes it sound included, but it is actually an extra charge. Just something to watch out for. For drinks, I got the matcha frappe and it was solid. It was not too sweet, and their whipped cream is seriously next level. The cafe itself has a very quiet atmosphere and small tables, so it feels better suited for a study spot or a small group rather than a big gathering. They even have traditional Japanese seating on the ground, which adds to the vibe. Overall, I would say it is a spot worth checking out if you want to try Japanese comfort food in Richardson.
Having seen multiple stories and pictures of this place on social media, I had high hopes it would deliver. Unfortunately it was not the case, the service here is nothing to be proud of, the staff was unhelpful when we called ahead to see how busy they were. When we arrived the staff member at the register seemed bothered and unfriendly. Not many smiling faces or enthusiastic expressions to make you feel welcomed. Inside the decor was cute but nothing I haven't seen before, there were tatami style seating but it was limited. We sat at a table with our an order number for them to recognize us, it took quite a bit of time for the food to arrive to the table, and when it did, the staff just dropped it off and left. I'd expect a bit more service for a place that asks for a tip after paying for your meal. As for the food, though it looked appealing, it was just that. The pancake was nothing special, I've had better and this was only bearable to eat because of the mayo. However the cabbage on the inside was nice and the bonito flakes were fine (tasted like the store bought version in a can) As for the Omurice, let's start with the egg, it was done well and the texture was as I expected, soft and fluffy. The rice on the inside was ok but the sauce/gravy was so salty. We had to remove it to be able to taste the rest of the dish. The steaks that accompanied it tasted like sausage patties that you buy at a grocery store. I don't normally rate places lower than a three, but I was definitely displeased by the experience.
This place is so cute with all the Shiba Inu decorations. I got their loaded fries, pandan matcha, and an espresso with oat milk and cinnamon. The pandan matcha latte is good but I have had better matcha elsewhere. The coffee has a sour taste and they said it's from the espresso. The coffee doesn't taste that strong or bitter, but it was just bitter. It tastes really off and we tried adding sugar, but it just doesn't taste good. The workers were really nice and they offered to make us a different drink, but it's ok. We didn't really like the drinks but the food was good. I think they use takoyaki toppers for their loaded fries, and there are also a lot of different sauces they put on it. The prices for everything were pretty cheap and reasonable, I might come back to try other food items.
Okaeri Cafe has a lot to offer! My friend and I came to visit from the Bay Area, and we were so happy to get recommendations from our local friends to come here. Ambiance - It was such a cute area. Divided in half, one felt more like a seating area for a quaint cafe, while the dining area had a side with little tables and seats as well as three booths where you would remove your shoes to sit on a pillow in front of a low table. The aesthetic is really cute with lots of green plants to complement the wooden clean accents. Definitely a cute area to bring a few friends with or even by yourself! Parking - The parking lot is a bit small, but nothing bad at all! Service - We were attended to as soon as we walked in, and seating us, taking our orders, bringing the food out, as well as the bill was all swift and prompt. Food - The menu had so many good options, but knowing that the portions would be large made it difficult for us to choose just one! Half the menu is for drinks ranging from coffee, matcha, teas, snacks, even ice cream! The price is amazing for how much food you get - my friend and I couldn't finish more than half of our plates! - Omusoba: I got this dish, it was really good! They bring it out fresh, and and flavors are amazing but not overwhelming at the same time. The presentation was adorable. - Chicken Katsu Curry: My friend got this, and as someone who isn't a big fan of this usually, I actually really enjoyed it. The chicken was moist and soft while being perfectly crunchy on the outside. The curry was delicious as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who loves Japanese or overall Asian food! It was totally worth the price, and if I was local to this area, I would definitely be a regular here.
Drinks here from matcha to iced lemonades are so good. matcha latte is well balanced not overly sweet. the sandwiches are comforting and filling, katsu with a kick of spicy, tonkatsu for a sweeter alternative and spam if that's your preference. service is kind and courteous and prompt the ambiance is quiet and excellent place to relax with some background lofi cafe music highly recommend!
Really enjoyed the food and lovely service here. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. This spot is quiet with several seating options (including traditional low tables and tatami mats). There were lots of food and drink options that would satisfy most diets and tastebuds. Parking is in the lot in front of the building and the entire establishment is sparkling clean. Will have to come back!!
delicious cafe! very cute seating that makes you feel like you're in japan. i got the pandan matcha and it was one of the best lattes i've had- it balanced so well and wasn't overly sweet by any means. there are also plenty of plantbased options. i enjoyed the vegetable dumplings in particular. overall a delicious and unique cafe. by the restroom, there are cute trinkets, the lucario shrine being my favorite.
One of my favorite Japanese words is "Okaeri"--it means welcome back. That's also the name of this café, which I thought was super cute. The vibe inside is very homey and cozy, definitely a nice spot to relax. They have buns, sandwiches, and other light bites, which kind of reminded me of a Japanese convenience store. I ordered the Omu-yakisoba (omelet with fried noodles), but it was way too oily and a bit disappointing. Usually yakisoba comes with pork and plenty of veggies, but this one hardly had any, so it felt pretty empty. My husband tried the special green tea noodles with veggie tempura, but the noodles were overcooked and mushy, and the tempura was just okay. Overall, the food wasn't really for us, but the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I think it's a nice place to just grab tea and enjoy the cozy space.

ORDER - Takoyaki - Okaeri Loaded Fries - Katsu Bento (seaweed salad + pasta salad as sides) - Omurice - Matcha Latte with Strawberry Foam - Pandan Matcha Latte The Takoyaki was pretty filling and had decent pieces of octopus. It came out still really hot and fresh which made it taste so good. Not too chewy or stiff - good consistency. Overall good flavor and is one of the better-tasting takoyaki places in the area. The Okaeri Loaded Fries were a yummy combo of seasoning, ketchup, furikake, green onions, and a spicy sauce. The fries were crispy with just the perfect amount of sauce to where it didn't make the fries soggy. Katsu bento with seaweed salad and pasta salad was also pretty good. The Katsu was crispy and well-seasoned. Adding some lemon made it taste even better. The rice was a little bit on the wetter side, but not too bad. The seaweed salad isn't super sour which is good and the pasta salad is just like your typical pasta salad. This was the first time I've had omurice so I wouldn't have an accurate portrayal of how this dish is compared to other omurice. The egg was fluffy and the rice wasn't super soggy. I liked it :) Matcha drinks were on point. Not super sweet and still had the good matcha flavor. Definitely one of the better places to get matcha around the area. VIBES The vibes are so so so cute. There are tables with chairs, couches, and traditional Japanese seating. The decorations are really cute and it is a good place to study. Not too loud overall and good lighting from the big windows. SERVICE Food comes out very quickly and the people are very sweet! No complaints about the service here! Overall the food had really nice presentation, tasted good, and the vibes of the restaurant made eating here a really fun experience. I went here because my sister, who was visiting, said she came across it and it was a cute place with good food. I got okonomiyaki, spam nigirazu, chicken teriyaki bento, tofu katsu doggu, and a melon pan. The damage was $56.70 which is pretty steep. The bento was great. The chicken was tender and the sides I got ( seaweed salad and potato salad) were good, so my mother said. The tofu katsu doggu was hard to eat because the bread is so big I could not get it in my mouth. The flavor of the sauces drenched all over was good. Okonomiyaki was sweet and not to my liking. My mother also liked the spam onigirazu. I would give it more stars if they had more vegetarian options, but their core business is drinks so perhaps the food is more of an extra for your Cafe trip. I will go back to try other dishes for my mother. read more
We were finally able to eat here!! I was so excited since I have been trying to come here for a while and the food just looks so cute! The cafe is super aesthetic with a bunch of outlets, so definitely a great place to just grab some snacks and study or do work, but it really is just a casual spot, I don't want to over hype it too much. We ordered: Matcha Latte - such a pretty drink, with great matcha flavor, and not too sweet! Spam musubi - probably one of my favorite things we ate. First of all, these were pretty big. Like easily could have been a meal, if you weren't too hungry. And secondly, it was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. The rice wasn't too dry, there was a good amount of sauce, and I honestly wish I bought more. Takoyaki - a classic! The middle wasn't too mushy or too dry, and there was a good amount of octopus inside. Omurice - easily one of the most aesthetic things on the menu, but it really is just eggs and rice. The sauce was nice and sweet, but this didn't really stand out to me. Okonomi Doggu - not the most gourmet hot dog, but will definitely hit the spot if that's what you're craving! definitely a cute spot! well decorated with cute shiba inu memorabilia! we sat down at the floor tables along the wall, which seems to be the spectacle of the cafe! service was great, the staff was very friendly always, very timely on cleaning the tables after patrons leave. the food is a liiiiittle pricey for the taste. things tasted good, but nothing SPECTACULAR. definitely a good place to go to meet with friends and enjoy the ambiance:) read more
I found this cafe after looking through the area. Noticing that they had some traditional seating available, I thought it would be a good idea to check the place out so I went with a friend. We went there on a weekday evening around 6 PM, and it was packed. All three traditional seating areas were occupied and the only spots available were near the bar area. I also noticed a few people had their laptops out and were working. For some reason, it had not crossed my mind that this was a cafe (coffee and tea being served). I went to the front and ordered a few items. The menu on their website had not been updated with current prices as there's a national shortage of eggs, but there was a sign to the side that indicated that the price would be increasing by $2-3. Anyways, I ended up ordering a Takoyaki, Tofu Katsu Doggu, and Omurice. My friend ordered a Omusoba. I received all my items before my friend even though he had placed his order before me. The takoyaki came out hot. I wasn't really paying attention how hot it was until I bit into the first one. I'm not sure if they let the takoyaki sit a little before garnishing and serving because every piece was extremely hot. I burned my tongue after the first takoyaki so I recommend anyone trying this dish to be careful when they bite into one or that they cut in half before eating. I posted another picture of how it looks when being cut in half. There were small pieces of octopus inside the takoyaki, and this tasted decent apart from my tongue being burned. I feel like my experience wasn't too great following that. Everything that came out after looked visually amazing, but in terms of taste, was nothing special. My friend and I split the tofu dog. This was basically a loaf of bread cut in half with some coleslaw and fried tofu piled on. The spicy mayo barely added any flavor to the tofu hotdog. I wasn't really a fan and the tofu itself lacked flavor. The bread was crisp and had a crunch when biting into the hotdog. My friend thought it was pretty mediocre as well. The omurice was a little overhyped. Not sure if I'd pay that much (even with the egg shortage) for the quantity I received. It was basically a cup of rice with an omelette and garnish on top. The umami broth around the dish added some flavor, but again nothing special. My friend thought his Omusoba was alright. If anything, I recommend you go check this place out for the ambiance and environment. read more
The egg salad sandwich tasted exactly as the ones we had in Japan. They have a variety of tea japanese food and desserts. Super cute cafe with three seats where you can actually sit on the floor, Japanese style. Loved it!! read more

To be honest, I'm so disappointed. I wanted to like this cute cafe a lot but I can't. The only thing going for it is its aesthetic and matcha selection. Everything else is a miss for me. The food took 45 minutes to come out and this is us ordering to go after they told us that the wait is 30 minutes for a table. While we're waiting for our food to take to go they said they had a table ready for us, cool, we sat down but waited another ten minutes for our food until it came out. When it came out though, it was unfortunately in Togo boxes so we couldn't even have a pretty presentation as a dine in experience. I just think either they need more chefs in the kitchen to handle the rush and possibly another wait staff. I do have to say though they're very clean at least. The portions were mediocre for the price we paid. Not worth it. read more

Casual, cute, and very charming Japanese cafe/coffee shop. The winter coffee drinks we tried were excellently made - perfect temp for sipping right away, and tasty. Flavors I don't usually see! (cardamom orange mocha) The entrees were a very HEARTY size. my wife and I shared a Yakisoba and a Bento box, and couldn't finish it all. The onigiri for sale at the register were very tasty and fresh. I liked the variety of Japanese classics (Omurice and Tonkatsu, my beloved~), and the kind of convenience food they had on offer for folks who didn't have time to sit down. Overall ambiance was relaxed and cheerful, with attentive waitstaff and quiet background music. enjoyed my visit immensely, will come back! read more
Over the weekend, I stopped at the Okaeri Cafe after seeing it posted on Instagram. A parking area is located in front of the restaurant when you arrive. With some tables on the floor and a variety of seating options, the restaurant offers a trendy Japanese design. We approached the counter, placed our order, and were given a number. We then walked to our table and grabbed our number. We ordered the Omurice - Traditional Fried Rice (A traditional Japanese fried rice dish topped with a runny tornado swirled omelet and served with special house made demi-glace) and the Katsu Curry (Breaded Pork Katsu served with Japanese short grain rice, in-house curry, and a soft boiled egg). Although I liked both dishes, I would have preferred a bit more sauce in each. read more

One of the very few cafes that offer traditional Japanese tea drinks such as hojicha & genmaicha. My go-to is the hojicha latte with almond milk & it always has the right ratio of sweetness to tea flavor. I did branch out & tried the gingerbread latte & the espresso shined through with its "roastiness". Still need to try their food; but don't forget to sign up for their rewards program! read more

Finally visit Okaeri Cafe in Richardson. Yeah a little behind here . While in the neighborhood.. why not. Peppermint mocha..iced even when it's brrrr outside. Good balance of the peppermint, just enough. Not overly sweet. Omurice has a little kick to it but I still add black pepper. #itsjustme So cute and bright, makes me happy. Presentation is good. OMG!!! Love this little place! I had an amazing experience! Got to try the takoyaki and the yakisoba and it was all super delicious! Love the atmosphere here! I would even say it's comfortable for a small study session or a book read while enjoying some delicious dishes! The service was nice and patient while I looked over their menu. I had a bit of a confusion when it came to end of meal etiquette but they informed me that they clean after me and I didn't have to worry. Very sweet! Will definitely be back! read more
super cute inside! Love the doggo. You order at the front and they bring the food to you. Food is averagely priced . I went Saturday night and there was a lot of seating, but when I went previously, there was no seating so just keep that in mind. The place has drinks and is advertised as a cafe so I think sometimes people come here to stay a while but other people come there to eat. Since the space is on the smaller side that can make it packed quickly. I got the bento box with katsu, potato salad and seaweed salad. The amount of seaweed salad was INSANE and lowkey not proportional to the meal. The potato salad was not my favorite, but the katsu and rice were pretty good! It took a little bit for the food to come out but it was hot. read more

This cafe is so cute - from the decor, the seating, and down to the food plating. It is a cafe so it's more friendly to small groups, however they did allow us to put together 3 tables for a party of 10. My kids enjoyed the food and it didn't take too long. You order first and then sit down. Water is self serve. They do have baby high chairs available. Kristin, the cashier at the front was very friendly in giving us recommendations on what to order. My favorite was the bento box and the portions were pretty big to where you could split one order between two people. We had the katsu which was perfectly crispy on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. One son had the yakisoba hotdog. There wasn't anything special about that dish. My other son had the kid's order of fried chicken pieces on top of a bed of rice which mimicked the shape of a panda. Overall the food was good and my kids enjoyed their food. The service was adequate. I would recommend this place to friends and families. read more
Possibly the cutest experience ever! I came here on a mommy daughter date and my kiddo immediately wanted the teriyaki chicken kid's meal. The panda rice is adorable! She paired that with strawberry soda. I had such a hard time deciding what to get, the choices are so amazing but I settled on the omurice. It was a winner! The savory sauce.. yummmm. I couldn't stop eating it after the first bite. We came on a sunday afternoon and luckily were able to get a spot with the low tables and pillows! The place filled up quickly! Love that you take off your shoes, it was so comfortable! My favorite thing was the hojicha latte. You can choose what kind of milk you want, hot or iced... This is a new cafe located nearby the old Richardson Chinatown. My friend had recommended this place. The Kids' Nuggets caught my eyes because of the cute rice panda design that came with the dish. For $9 it was actually plenty of food for a regular meal. My friend got the Omurice curry. I tried a couple bites and wasn't a big fan. It has a slight sweet taste but I prefer savory Japanese curry. We ended our meal with the matcha cheesecake. I thought it tasted more like a sponge cake. It was still quite delicious but didn't have a rich flavor. We got lucky and snatched a spot at the cute Japanese style seating area. They only have three seating areas in that style and the rest are high tops or regular tables. Don't forget to take off your shoes if you choose to sit there! It's disrespectful to wear your shoes as it will make the seating area dirty for the next customer. Highly recommend checking this place out! It's a great spot to catch up with a friend. read more

This place is a really cute date spot and you're probably better off getting desserts or drinks here. We came for an early lunch and it was a full house. We ordered the katsu curry rice, omurice, matcha ginger beer, and an almond croissant. I'd say this place might be great if you don't have much experience with cooking or Japanese food. Katsu curry - nice and crispy but the breading was too thick. Curry was really liquid-y and not much depth in flavor. I will stick to making my own Japanese curry at home. Soft boiled egg was done perfectly! Omurice - demi glaze is quite salty and the rice was really brown - I'm used to it being a bit orange because there should be a tomato flavor with the rice. Portion was small for price. Almond croissant - my first thought when I bit it was "Costco croissant?" I almost believed it because there was also zero filling in it. I could recreate it at home by taking a Costco croissant and reheating it with some sliced almonds on top....very disappointing Matcha ginger beer - strong matcha flavor and not sweet! Husband enjoyed the carbonation. Probably the best thing from the whole meal. They had a lot of drinks and affogatos and other desserts we didn't get to try, but looked good. Great service and cute atmosphere, just not the best food. read more
New Japanese Cafe in town! The decor was great and I really liked the concept of the restaurant. To start off I tried a couple drinks - matcha ginger beer and matcha latte. I thought the ginger beer was very interesting but I liked it. The latte though was a little bland for my taste. My favorite dish I was able to try was the okonomiyaki! It was very crunchy yet sweet and savory from the sauces on top. The omurice had great presentation but to me it lacked a little flavor. Still good though! Lastly the hotto doggu had a nice char and the topping with yakisoba brought the dish to another level. Definitely will be back to try the other dishes! I loved their fresh twist on onigiri and hot dogs. It was so nice to eat while sitting on the floor. They even had claw machines and we won a prize! Its such a fun little cafe to chill and eat at. I would highly recommend this place. 10/10 staff! read more
I liked this place a lot! I ordered the omurice with demi-glace and the matcha affogato. The only issue I had with this place was that I went with a friend and their food (katsu bento) took ~35 minutes after my food to come out so my food got cold by the time theirs came out even though we ordered at the same time. I think they misplaced her ticket because I had to go up to the counter and ask. Granted, I could've eaten my food right when I got it but find it polite to wait until everybody gets their food before eating. As for the food, the omurice was super yummy and is probably even more tasty right when it comes out! The matcha affogato is also great, my friend who isn't the biggest fan of matcha tried it with me and said she liked it a lot! Will definitely be coming back here and hope that we will have a better experience next time. :) read more

What a cute little space. The location doesn't translate to the inside of this establishment. I wish it was a wee bit bigger with more sitting space. Everyone working there was kind and shot a smile. I had a drink question that was answered beautifully. What I got: 1) Matcha Latte (oat milk) - 10/10 2) White Mocha Latte (oat milk) - 10/10 3) Okaeri Loaded Fries - 9/10 crispy. The sauce was yummy just a little thicker than me. That's too much 4) Takoyaki- 9/10. This is my second time trying Takoyaki. Maybe I don't understand the concept(the mushy). It was certainly the best Takoyaki I've had , considering. 5) Chicken Katsu Curry with Egg 6/10- you know... it hit but it wasn't really hitting. I know this statement is NOT helpful at all read more
Food was excellent, and portions deceptively large. The actual seating space is very small, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for 30 minutes to an hour around lunch time. Take out is an option if you want the food but not the full experience. That said, there is a nice little tatami space (about three tables worth) that makes you feel a bit like you're in Japan. Specifically ask to wait for that if you can, and you won't regret it! We had the OmuSoba, Loaded Fries, and Curry Katsu. 10/10~ Just wish they could expand the location and seating a bit. Nice decor, Japanese goodies, and even a drink station! Check it out for sure. read more

We had takoyaki, okonomiyaki, a hot dog, and omurice. Service was quick and we did not have to wait long for our food to come out. Depending on the time of day, there may be a longer line to order and find a table, and I've even heard of the cafe running out of food on multiple occasions. However, the atmosphere was good for catching up with friends and the food was good, but nothing spectacular or of note in my opinion. It's a good place to try. read more
